Modern Warfare 2’s single-player campaign picks up five years after the events of the previous game, telling the bloody story of a new conflict between multinational military squad Task Force 141 and Russian Ultranationalists under the leadership of terrorist Vladimir Makarov. It’s a relatively short ride, a package fleshed out by the longer-term draw of Modern Warfare 2’s expansive—and destined for popularity—multiplayer suite as well as the cooperative two-player Spec Ops mission mode.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been billed as the “most anticipated game of the year” by its publisher. The PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game has been pegged as the year’s biggest, bestselling blockbuster by analysts. But is the game good? And is it a worthy successor to the multi-million selling Call of Duty 4?

Loved

A Thrilling Single-player Campaign: Like Infinity Ward’s previous Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2 is an explosive roller coaster ride of an action game. It peaks with frenetic chases and bottoms out with slow, steady sniper mission and, with a campaign length on par with Call of Duty 4, never overstays its welcome. On my first playthrough on Hardened difficulty—one notch higher than standard challenge—it took me just over 7 hours to complete. That may be brief in comparison to Modern Warfare 2’s peers, but the pacing is tight, with regular doses of hyper-violent spectacle. That said, the single-player campaign has its faults, mostly from a storytelling perspective.

Awesome Presentation: Modern Warfare 2’s globe-spanning adventure features some awesome sights and sounds. From the game’s amazing voice over work to its booming audio to its well-designed set pieces, the game’s single-player levels—and the multiplayer maps built upon their foundation—feature impressive attention to detail. Levels set in the exotic favelas of Brazil and in familiar suburban streets present the player with locations they’ve likely never done battle in, a fine contrast to the bleak and barren environments of Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. The game doesn’t waste much time expounding upon plot or reason, mostly barking orders at the player between missions as intel swoops by on a mostly black screen. It just does it with top notch voice talent. Character modeling has made an impressive leap, with character faces now having… character.

Spec Ops: If you’re not quite ready to venture into the foulmouthed multiplayer noob-slaying frenzy that is Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer mode, the cooperative multiplayer Spec Ops mode offers a stellar two-player experience. Most missions can be played solo—not that you’d really want to—but a few require a buddy. And they’re the best of the lot, putting one on the ground, the other in hovering aircraft—an AC-130 in one, an attack helicopter in the other—raining down gunfire upon swarms of computer-controlled foes as the ground-based player works his way across a map. Some of the later Spec Ops challenges can be painfully hard, particularly on Hardened or Veteran difficulty, but most of the challenges are a treat to play with a friend.

A Massive Multiplayer Buffet: Fourteen multiplayer modes may sounds like option overkill, but most of Modern Warfare 2’s game types are variations on the familiar, including Capture The Flag, Team Deathmatch, the bomb-planting/bomb-defusing Demolition and the base-capturing Domination. The most enjoyable of these modes, personally, was the Headquarters Pro mode, which spawns capture points throughout the round, targets that teams must hold and defend. It’s a mode that requires, for better or worse, active communication among teammates, making for a thrilling and sometimes frustrating experience. Layered on top of the broad game type offering are 16 multiplayer maps, dozens of unlockable weapons and attachments, per-weapon, per-perk and per-item Challenges (that will take dozens of hours to fully complete) and a level progression system that’s incredibly addictive.

Streaks & Perks 2.0: Adding to the variety of Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer are expanded attribute enhancing Perks, which can be unlocked as players progress and the second-tier “Pro” versions of Perks that make players even better. For example, the Sleight Of Hand Perk, which lets players reload quicker, adds the ability to aim faster via scope or sight with Sleight Of Hand Pro. Also expanded are the rewards players can deploy from racking up kill streaks, which included UAV radar detectors, counter-UAV radar jammers and randomized, air-dropped care packages. At the higher, more ridiculous end of the kill streak reward scale are EMP blasts, stealth bomber strikes and game-ending tactical nukes. New to Modern Warfare are death streaks, which give players on the losing side an opportunity to level the playing field. Player-created custom classes let players define almost everything about their online personality and play style, letting you choose which perks, streaks, weapons, and equipment suit you best.

Its Zimmerific: It’s not often that I’ll take notice of a game’s musical score to the point where it sticks with me, where upon revisiting a level I relish the musical accompaniment as I did with Modern Warfare 2. Beyond the pumped up fanfare, the game’s soundtrack ranges from a brooding, disturbing drone to a sweet, somber ballad, the drama solidified by the musical efforts of Hans Zimmer and Infinity Ward’s audio team.

Host Migration Is One Thing: Modern Warfare 2 brings with it a strong multiplayer backbone—at least on the console side—featuring ample game set up options and speedy entry into populated games. But it’s the multiplayer mode’s host migration that saves the game, keeping multiplayer matches going when a host bails. In our experience with host migration, upon losing a multiplayer match host, we were back into the action within seconds, not dumped into a lobby from which everyone quits. From our real-world experience, games have been mostly lag-free affairs, though some experiences were unmistakably spotty.

Hated

What Just Happened? Brush up on your Call of Duty 4 single-player if you care about the story-driven events of the sequel, because the delivery of Modern Warfare 2’s plot assumes you know it well. The game’s single-player campaign can be scattershot and confusing, mostly as a result of the game’s hastily delivered orders via intermission and comm transmissions. At the end of the campaign, I was left wondering what the hell just went down and how the key players in Modern Warfare 2 got wrapped up in this conflict. The game’s campaign mode also suffers from treading on territory that feels familiar to the first, with some storytelling tricks feeling recycled or just plain overdone. Just how many times can we sprint to an escape helicopter anyway?

Makarov: Modern Warfare 2’s antagonist Vladimir Makarov puts the player in a very uncomfortable, disturbingly violent situation that may offend or upset some players—probably a very tiny fraction of the blood-lustful Call of Duty playing population. This can be skipped from the get-go without punishing the player, but… who’s going to do that? While in context the level that made me hate Makarov helps to justify the events of the game, it doesn’t make it enjoyable.

Abandon All Hope Ye Noobs: Call of Duty fans new to the multiplayer landscape of Modern Warfare 2 may want to find some skilled, friendly teammates to play with. Public multiplayer matches can be a bloodbath for the low-ranking noob, a frustrating, sharp learning curve that’s made more punishing by some of the game’s killstreak rewards and higher-level unlocks. Spending much of a round being liquefied by AC-130 rounds, Predator missiles or Pave Low fire from above is not uncommon, something that may sour one’s enjoyment while playing online. Players may be rightfully concerned about the balance of the game’s killstreaks, which, if you’re not well-versed in Modern Warfare multiplayer, can be intimidating. Fortunately, options for setting up private matches that disable killstreaks and perks, are easy to access. New users may find it similarly frustrating to not have total access to all of the game’s multiplayer modes from the get-go.

Modern Warfare 2’s single-player storyline doesn’t deliver the same highly charged thrill of its predecessor, despite offering memorable cinematic moments and a massive spike in collateral damage. But Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was a tough act to follow, an uncommonly taut campaign delivered in less time and with a then-fresher modern coat of paint. The variety of environments in which one plays through Modern Warfare 2’s campaign adds wondrous distinction to the game, even if some of the series’ previous stand out storytelling tricks feel more like Modern Warfare tropes.

Fortunately, Infinity Ward has expanded impressively on the game’s multiplayer components. Competitive multiplayer is flooded with content, a deep collection of well-crafted modes, maps and unlockable goods that will likely keep players committed to Modern Warfare 2 online well into level 70 and beyond. Spec Ops mode offers an outstanding bite-sized mix of mission-based levels and two-person multiplayer, a cooperative mode that both rewards and challenges. Together, the three pillars of Modern Warfare 2’s package make for an impressive experience.

Modern Warfare 2 may not innovate or raise the bar as impressively as Call of Duty 4 did in order to grant it automatic game of the year consideration. The better praise it may deserve is that it’s likely the game that many will be playing well into next year.

Call of Duty World at War is overall one of the greatest game’s I have ever played. It is constructed off the same graphics engine as Call of Duty Modern Warfare, the gameplay however is far more in depth. The story mode speaks volume for how A.I. is in proving in video games, I had a hard time on story mode in comparision to Call of Duty 3 and 4. However I did not find the story as immersive as Call of Duty Modern Warfare’s. The multiplayer is where I truley had fun. I have spent more than my far share of time online getting my rank up im rank 30. You unlock better guns on multiplayer by ranking up. It is a easy game to pick up and learn to play even if you havent touched any of the other games in the series. I think over all COD5 is a great game, and if you love the series or if you havent played it, it is still a good game to add to your arsenal.

Bonus GamerpicsWhen you reach a new Prestige rank, you will unlock a Gamerpic matching the Prestige symbol. Reach the 10th Prestige to unlock the Sgt. Reznow Gamerpic.

Easy Veteran modeAt the mission selection screen, choose a mission on the Veteran difficulty. After the first checkpoint, save the game, and quit. Go back to the mission selection screen, and choose the same mission, but change the difficulty to Recruit. While the mission is loading, you will see a white bar at the bottom of the screen. When the bar reaches approximately 33%, eject the disc or go to the Xbox Live Dashboard. Then, reload the game, and select “Resume”. You should now be playing the mission on the Veteran difficulty, but with Recruit AI.

Infinite ammunitionUse a gun with a bipod attachment. Lie down, deploy the bipod, and press Left Analog-stick Up. The ammo bar should disappear. You can now fire as long as desired without reloading or running out of ammo.Take a machine gun that can be mounted, and mount it onto something or just the floor. Press Left Analog-stick Up, and your ammo bar will disappear. You will now have unlimited ammunition, but only while it is mounted.

Extra ammunitionUse the following trick if run out or are running low on ammunition on any mission in Solo mode on any difficulty. Find a non-essential teammate (someone not involved in the story line). Walk up to him, and aim the reticule next to his head or torso. Knife the air, and as you do so move slightly towards them so that the reticule is over them. If done correctly, he should die and drop his weapon. Non-essential teammates will get replaced when you walk into a battle. If the teammate does not die but keeps getting back up, they are essential to the story (for example, Sgt. Roebuck and Sgt. Rezenov).

Hide among the dead in Multiplayer modeFind some dead bodies. Run up to them, and make sure no one else is around besides your teammates. Get down into a laying position. Then, crawl into what appears to be the body of the dead person, so it looks like there are fragments of the body around your HUD. Lower your gun, but have it high enough to still see what is coming. This trick will make it harder for people to see you unless they are paying close attention to the ground. The flaws to this trick are that people can sneak up from behind and see you, and you can only see in one direction without moving. After a few kills, move to another location because other players will pick up on your trick and grenade or rush you.

Invincibility in Nacht Der UntotenPlay in Co-op mode. By the window at the back that you can see a truck out of, find a corner that is to the right of that window. Have one player go there, and crouch down. Have the other player jump on top of him. Then, have the player at the bottom stand up. You should now be inside each other and invincible as long as you do not move. If a zombie comes in, knife him. Shooting will not always work.

Easy money in Nacht Der UntotenFor the first few rounds, let all the zombies break down the boards and come inside. Then, use your pistol or knife to kill them to get more points than simply shooting them once in the head. A knife to the head will earn 130 points per kill. Once all of the zombies are dead, patch up the boards. You will have much more money than if you simply killed them as they approached. Note: After level 3, the zombies are too powerful to be taken down this way.

Preparing for next round in Nacht Der UntotenAt the end of each round, do not kill the last zombie. Kill all of the others, but allow one to live. When it has entered the building, throw a grenade at it to blow off its legs. It should now crawl slowly on the ground, leaving you plenty of time to patch up any necessary windows. The next round will not begin until you kill him. He is easy to evade. Use this opportunity to prepare for the next round. When you are ready, kill him to end the round.

Hidden radio music in Nacht Der UntotenStart any type of Nazi Zombie game, and unlock the door to the Mystery Box room. Go to the Mystery Box. Go over to the right, and look at a table to find a radio. Shoot a bullet at the radio. After a few seconds, you will hear random types of music such as rock, disco, opera, and some in-game music such as the Russian victory song, the final mission music, or the Japanese combat music. The music will stop in between rounds but will then start again. Every player in game should hear it.

Sniping locationsAirfield

In the middle of the map is a two story concrete building. Place satchels or Bouncing Bettys to protect your location. There is also a large white estate with a ladder and staircase in front of it that can be used as a sniping location.

Castle

There are many good sniping positions on this map. The first is a small room overlooking the garden and the front staircase. To get to this room, either climb the ladder or go up the stairs. The second location is a small room that has a clear line of sight into the room mentioned above. To get to this room, go to the bottom of the map, and climb up the staircase. You should be on a wooden porch that connects to the gardens. Turn left, and you will be in the room.

Cliffside

There are two concrete bunkers in this map. Go to the one on the edge of the cliff. From this room, you can snipe players as they run by and also shoot them trying the get in from behind.

Courtyard

At the end of the courtyard, go into the shack, and turn right. Use the portion of wall that is jutting out to hop into the tree.

Dome

There is a platform with a ladder on the side of the building. To get to this platform, you can either climb the ladder or go up the stairs inside. This spot connects to a ledge inside the building.

Downfall

There is a bunker/cave in the upper left corner of the map (second row of buildings). This bunker has a clear shot of enemy respawn points and has good protection from tanks. Make sure to use Bouncing Bettys to protect yourself.

Hangar

On the second floor of the hangar is a small room. From the outside, you can get to it by climbing up the rubble pile on the side of the building.

Go to the porch outside the hanger entrance. Close to the hanger is a large white carved stone. Jump on it, and try and hop over the fence. You will fail, but will land on the fence.

Makin

Go to the circular building, and look through the stair entrance. There should be a hut with two rectangular windows overlooking the sandy area that can be used as a sniper position. Also, there is a tall building on the water with windows overlooking the entire map that can be used.

Outskirts

Once inside the church tower, look through the circular window. There is a white building with a small balcony in the distance. Use it to snipe from.

Roundhouse

There is a platform/hallway that goes over the middle of the map. To get to it, go behind the trashed locomotives. Climb up the staircase, and turn left at the round platform. You should have a good view of the whole roundhouse in the middle of the map.

Upheaval

Towards the top of the map is building with two windows that overlook the whole area. Note: Other players will try to get you.

Go into the house next to the burning house. Stand on a windowsill, and face the side. You should fall on a ledge below.

Enter the burning house. Go up the steps and out the window in the same way to hit a ledge below.

Easy “Dead Air” achievement (Map Pack 2 DLC)Open the door that has “Comm” on it in Shi No Numa. Then, open the door where the perk machine is located. There is a door on each side of the perk machine. Go in the one on the right. As soon as you enter that door, take a left. There is a black phone sitting on the table next to a radio. Go to the phone, and hold [Reload]. You may need to do this two or three times. You will start to hear numbers being dialed, it will start to ring, and you will get the “Dead Air” achievement.

Easy “Gunslinger” achievementAfter you get to the sniper spot to kill General Amsel, shoot all your pistol ammunition. Then, switch to your sniper rifle, then switch back to your pistol. You should now have 80 rounds of ammunition instead of only 13.

Easy “Hammer Time” achievement (Map Pack 2 DLC)Kill all but one zombie before they tear down the window boards. Let the last zombie live, and while he is tearing down the window boards, immediately repair them. Although you will not get points for repairing the boards, you will get the “Hammer Time” achievement. It is funny to watch the zombie get frustrated when it makes no progress, but do not get too close or it will reach through and take a swing at you.

Easy “Rough Economy” achievementPlay through the “Vendetta” mission until you get to the part where you first assault the Nazis (directly after you are blown out of the building, then climb up a ladder with Sgt. Reznov to fight). This is the part where he talks about blowing up the flamethrower’s fuel-packs to take out multiple enemies. Start killing enemies, making sure to take out the machine gunner in the far building, as he can throw off your aim. During the fight, four enemies will come out on a balcony to the left, at about the same height you are at. The closest enemy will be too far away from the others to get a group kill, and will actively target you; kill him. Wait until the remaining three enemies all stand and line up, then shoot through all three of them. They usually do not target you, as they are concentrated on the fight.Play through the “Vendetta” mission. After you shoot General Amsel’s guards and move up to the car with the sergeant, a group of Nazis will appear down the street. Do not follow the sergeant. Instead, stay near the car, and wait for three of the Nazis to get in a line, then shoot.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to place yourself in the Halo universe? Well now you can. You are no longer invincible, you can no longer run as fast or jump as high, you can no longer regenerate your shield over time. Why? Simple. You are just a well trained human.

That’s right, in Halo 3: ODST, you take on the role of Rookie, a human. As a matter of fact, the entire ODST squad are humans, because lets face it, Master Chief was overpowered. Though, regardless of whether you’re a genetically enhanced super soldier or not, you are guaranteed to have months of fun with this game… Quite literally months. ODST brings a new campaign, new characters, new maps, a new multiplayer mode, and new achievable medals in game, to the board. What more could a gamer want?

The campaign (which I have now finished through multiple 6-12 hour shifts at my friends houses) offers 20-30 hours of gameplay (depending on the number of players, difficulty and whether or not you take the time to enjoy the game), and the multiplayer mode; Firefight (practically endless), promises never to have the same experience twice, simply meaning when you play it, it’s always going to be a little bit different from before. The array of new characters is surprising, especially Buck (the shotgun enthusiast) who’s modelled after and voiced by one Nathan Fillion (yes, that’s right, that extremely cool guy from Serenity and Firefly) who also voiced our favourite Gunnery Sergeant Reynolds back in Halo 3.

The only thing that is debatable in regards to ODST, is whether sprinting up behind a wraith and throwing a grenade inside is ultimately more mindblowingly, eyepoppingly, jawdroppingly satisfying than blasting hoards and hoards of grunts to pieces with your incredibly well missed, Fuel rod gun. In terms of multiplayer, the only other game out/coming out is probably Call Of Duty 5. Despite it being rated 8.6/10 on the international gaming network, ODST has come a long way in terms of new (and old) content, with the introduction of fully explorable maps; New Mombasa, the reintroduction of the famed and dangerous scoped pistol (yay!) and health packs which give the sense of vulnerability enhancing the gameplay even more (especially when you take out that wave of Hunters that’s pestering you) and finally visor mode acting as a useful night vision tool. However, as with most things in life, change is expected. The Flood for example, are no where to be seen (finally!) and all new equipment that debuted in Halo 3, including the battle rifle and dual-wielding (which didn’t go down so well with the fans).

Overall, the game is worth the money that you’d pay for it (£29 from TheHut.com), especially if you were never one to buy Halo 3. This ensures you can play both ODST, Firefight, and Multiplayer Halo 3 with all maps available. I’d have to agree with IGN’s rating, but still think it’s worth investing in.

Most info summarized from GameTrailer’s video
of the recent multiplayer presentation in LA.

>>Hey people! Now that the game has been released, the guys over at MW24/7 have done a good job of getting everything cataloged.

A single kill has a base score of 100 XP, so expect much higher numbers. The level cap will be 70. Prestige has been reworked and will be rewarded.

Callsign
MF2 features a much more customizable “identity” for the player, which will pop up for all to see if you achieve in-game feats, like killstreaks, objectives, or shooting down support elements. This pop-up info pane, or “callsign” will include your gamertag, and custom backgrounds along with a few other new features.

Your title, which defaults to your rank (starting at “FNG”, SSGt, etc.) is selectable and more novel ones will be unlocked depending on your play style. Appears very similar to Street Fighter IV’s profile tags.

Your emblem also defaults to your proper rank insignia, but can also be any number of avatar-like pictures, unlocked in similar ways to titles.

Killstreaks
Killstreaks are now customizable. It appears as though you can select 3 to be active at any time, unknown whether or not this number can increase. Ranking up will earn you unlock credits, which you can use to unlock your choice of killstreak rewards beyond the default 3. This list is not complete ~

3 Kills – UAV Shows enemies on minimap.
4 Kills – Care Package Airdrop random killstreak or ammo.

Call of Duty serisi, FPS türünü seven tüm oyuncuların kalbinde vazgeçilmez bir yere sahip oldu.

Evet, Treyarch Studios böylesine kendinden emin bir iddia ile Call of Duty: World at War’ u tanıttı.

Çünkü World at War, tamamen Modern Warfare üzerine geliştirilen bir oyun oldu.

Zaten bu konuda Treyarch’ ın World at War ile COD serisini sekteye uğratması düşünülemezdi bile.

Neden derseniz, 2. Dünya Savaşı konusunda doymuş bir oyuncuydum. Treyarch’ ın World at War’ u iyi bir yemeğin üzerine yenen tatlı gibiydi.

Ülkemizde oldukça popüler bir biçimde oynanan COD 4′ ü çoğunuzun bildiğinizi varsayarak, World at War’ daki Multiplayer sisteminin kısa sürede ustası olacağınıza eminim.

World at War konusunda eksik olan tek şey, Modern Warfare’ de karşılaştığımız yeni soluk. Evet, COD serisi 2. Treyarch’ a bizlere sunduğu bu güzel oyundan dolayı teşekkür ediyoruz ve Infinity Ward’ un geliştireceği yeni Call of Duty’ i sabırsızlıkla bekliyoruz.

The Call of Duty 5 World at War third map pack came out today. I’ve already downloaded them; however, I only have played two of the three multiplayer maps and haven’t gotten to the zombies map yet but I have still made my conclusions on the map pack. Sick!

Okay so there are three maps, Revolution, Battery, and Breach. I’ve played the first two and they kind of remind me of Call of Duty 4 type maps. There is a great sniping map with plenty of decently safe spots to take cover and the other is a sort of close combat tunnel map with the surrounding areas being a bit more open. The maps seem to be well rounded maps that allow you to use just about any weapon of your choice so long as you play the maps according to how the gun should be used. There is also a new Nazi Zombie map that comes with it. It’s called Der Riese. It come complete with some new weapon upgrades, teleporters, and hordes of undead Aryans.

It’s only 800 microsoft points, which is a mere $10 if you don’t know the conversions. This $10 purchase will allow you to keep playing the game without having to back out of a game because a map you don’t have is being played and it will add hours and hours of fun to this already classic game. It will probably be enough to keep you playing up until the very day of Modern Warfare 2’s release (11/10/09).

Good news for any of your Call of Duty 5 gamers out there. I am happy to announce that we have yet another double experience weekend in Call of Duty 5. For those of you unfamiliar with the significance of this, it’s pretty big. You receive twice the experience for everything you do (with the exception of match bonuses) making it so much quicker to level up, especially in the higher slower levels that take 5,000 experience to level up.

The higher the level, the more guns and perks you receive. If you want to take full advantage of this weekend you should focus on games like headquarters and search and destroy. In search and destroy you get 100 points per kill, 50 per assist, and 200 for either arming or disarming the bomb! In headquarters you’ll get 500 for holding the headquarter for 250 seconds, plus another 10 per kill, and 40 for either capturing or destroying the headquarter.

Focus your time on these two gametypes and you should be able to finish your current prestige and move on to the next one. For those of you already in 10th prestige, sorry to say they are only making it easier for those lower than you to catch up to you. Take advantage of this weekend, I’ll be trying to hit my second prestige.
