Some of you may be wondering about the post below. It all started a few weeks ago when Alan found some old medium format negatives sitting in a box and decided to scan them. We thought it would be nice to file the pictures in the computer. Our chins dropped to the floor as soon as we finished scanning the first negative – the amount of detail was simply unbelievable. As you can see from this photo, every line in the wood is clearly visible. It definitely took him back to the good old days. That’s when he started talking about getting another medium format film camera. After scouring ebay for days and reading many reviews, he settled on the Minolta Autocord, a twin lens reflex, considered one of the best among TLRs. He found such good deals on them that he bought two and gave me one. I have to say that I fell in love as soon as I looked through the ground glass viewfinder. Alan still has his old light meter so we can find out the right exposure and I can’t wait to try the camera out. But before we could take them out, he took one of the cameras to be cleaned and refurbished at this joy of a place that the folks at Downtown Camera recommended. The store was as far as one could possibly go through public transit but certainly worth the trip. While Alan got his camera, I snapped some pictures of some of the treasures in there:

Alan almost bought another camera while we were there. A Mamiya RB67:

And this is the one I want (here shown in just the body, minus the back and the lens). Alas, I’ll have to wait until I get a job since it goes for anywhere around 1,100-1,500$:

If you compared every single camera side by side, would it be completely obvious which one was superior?

A few years ago, I swore not to go shopping on Black Friday ever again. So tomorrow, I’ll be relaxing from home while hordes of early-bird shoppers wake early and battle the riff-raff for special, one-day deals. This year, I grabbed a special deal in advance of Black Friday and it arrived yesterday. I snagged Panasonic’s HDC-SD10 (s pc) camcorder from Amazon (s amzn) for $299.99, including shipping. When this high-definition camcorder hit the market about six months ago, it was priced at $549.99. Amazon dropped the price to $399 and also offered a $100 discount code, which is how I got my price. I tweeted it when I pulled the trigger and a few folks on Twitter took advantage of the same deal.

So is this the best handheld camcorder out there? Of course not, but at this price, I simply couldn’t pass it up. As you can see by the photo gallery, the HDC-SD10 has roughly the same footprint as my iPhone 3GS, so it’s pretty small. And it doesn’t weigh all that much either — the body only weighs 85 grams more than my iPhone and the battery doesn’t add much more heft. I can easily see myself throwing this in a gear bag — OK, maybe not throwing — for use at CES and on the run.

The HDC-SD10 supports recording in full 1920 x 1080 at up to 60 interlaced frames per second or 24 fps progressive and sports a 16x optical zoom. The device records to an SD card in AVCHD format and can also take 2.1 megapixel stills. Other features include:

Optical image stabilization

2.7″ LCD with touchscreen for camera controls and settings

1 x USB 2.0, 1 x mini HDMI, 1 x component out

iAuto function for auto-focus, auto-exposure subject tracking

Integrated microphone for Dolby Digital stereo recording

725 mAh battery

Again, there are plenty of better high-definition cameras on the market today — just not at $299.99!

One year ago today Graham and myself created CEU and wrote out our very first blogs. Since then the blog has seen many pictures Composed, Exposed and Uploaded! We have had plenty of visitor frequent the blog, for which we are very grateful! We are now looking forward to the next year and the pictures that we are planning and the ones we are not planning on taking with great excitement!

Currently we are in the early phases of making CEU something much bigger and better than this simple blog. Early next year (hopefully!) we will have the new CEU up and running. The details of what to expect will be posted here first, so keep a keen eye out for the emerging details as they come.

To mark this special occasion I have uploaded my Gigrin Farm Red Kite photographs below. The Day started well with the sun out and the Kites looked spectacular when the sun caught there colours. Unfortunately the sun went away quickly and I was faced with much more difficult photographic conditions. Still I am extremely pleased with my results for a first trip to the farm.

The Final picture at the bottom I took with this blog in mind. I wanted to try and show the incredible number of kites that were present. All the little dots in the shot are Kites and this was only one of 3 ’stacks’ of the birds around the farm. On top of the stacks, the air above the feeding site was full of birds as well. It was such a wonderful experience and I highly recommend everyone taking a trip to see them.

Before the photos, I have another few pieces of news. I, much to Graham’s delight I’m sure, have created my very own Flickr account (link on the right)! I have been contemplating doing so for a long time, but I am always put off by the time it can take to upload pictures. To solve this problem I have purchased an export plug-in for Aperture (The program I edit my photos in). This plug-in allows me to directly export images straight from Aperture to Flickr with minimal hassle! Hopefully this export feature will mean I keep updating Flickr regularly. On top of this I have realised that I have a bit of a back log in processing my images and I have stumbled upon some really great photos that I took a while ago and haven’t processed yet. Expect to see a few of these over the coming weeks! Also don’t forget that you can keep up to date with Graham and myself more regularly via Twitter, link on the right!

SVAT CVQ1000 Color Quad Security System with 4 Day/Night Cameras and Remote Review

Check Price Now!

This is the ultimate security system for the price. There is so much better out there but if your a simple person looking for DECENT picture quality then its for you. It is very high speen meaning whats on the screen is happening at that exact moment. No lagging images. I am a simple man in a small house 2 bedroom 1 bath so I had plenty of cables. Wanted to run the wires under the house but fear of spiders was to great and was forced to run wires along the edge of house. Put 2 cams on front door. One for face and one to see the back of the person incase something is bein held behind there back if you follow me. One on the back door and one on the drive way. The entrance cams work good in pitch black but the cam for the driveway not so. I can barley see my black car thats 25 ft away. I can only see the rims so will have to get a motion sensor light. In the daylight I can see perfectly the whole driveway. The infa red is ok and I am pleased. Here is a detailed list of negatives and positives about this system

Negatives
-Infa red only works to a couple feet!
-Color quality is poor. Its not like looking in th the computer screen your looking at now. Its color but VERY DULL. Only shows brights
-Remote is cheap but works fine. GREAT- I wanted to save money and did not want anything from outer space but maybee not for you
-The mounts work great but could be better designed. Anyone can use it and anyone with a BRAIN will have no problem.
-Running wires. Everone hates running wires…. but the WIRELESS system I had before was 100 dollars cheaper and could not get a clear image NO matter where i put the reciver so wires are a NESSASARY EVIL for decent picture quality.

POSITIVES
-QUAD image on screen. Un beatable to see all 4 cameras at once.
- plenty of wire for a SMALL country style house.
-Dropped cameras during instalation and they took the beating well.
-Easy to set up time and date on screen and reciver to TV
-Great packaging. Arrived perfectly safe and sound.
-No lagging images.
- Affordable for simple people who dont need a terminator system. People who just want to see whos at the door or that there door is closed and secure if they hear a noise in the house.

Read other peoples reviews if you havent. I did and they said to dry run system. Great advise. I knew when I mounted a cam that that was exactly where i wanted it to be. Test before drilling and hanging anything.. Recomend testing at night because during the day all cams will have perfect image but at night maybee not.

4 stars only because I wantted intense color quality. Order it! Its a tool and does its job well but you will see what I mean. YOU WILL BE HAPPY but will wish it had a little better color quality. Its not the same images you see with your eyes. Its like looking through plastic. Slightly off but still color.

I am whelmed. – Skull Fungus – Bham, AL
It’s a good buy for the money. Don’t expect to be able to see clear faces in parking lots at fifty feet…think more of “over the garage door.”

It doesn’t handle additional light sources in “night” mode as well as I would like, but it get’s the job done if I want to know who’s knocking on my door, creeping down the side of my house, or which one of the neighbor’s dogs are trying to tear into my trash cans again.

Time stamp, autocycle, and alert notification when connection is severed is a plus.
System Set Up – Douglas J. Strahm – Ohio
Very pleased with the system so far.Checking the “System Set Up “, it looks as if there’s an option to set all four cameras to switch at what ever time interval you want. However, after setting the time intervals, I can not get the images to change so I can see each camera separately at the prefered time intervals.Or maybe this is not even an option. Can anybody tell me weather they have been able to have the cameras switch automaticaly?
Not reliable – D. Rodriguez – TX
cameras start out good then blur and become terrible. i constantly have to turn the system on and off. i have since ordered a different brand. customer service was no help whatsoever. all the more reason not to purchase this camers system. Dont even ask about night vision on cams

There comes a time in everyone’s life when he or she wonders if there is more to photography than a palm-sized block of aluminum that is the point and shoot camera stowed away in their pocket.

The compact point and shoot camera has come so far in the last ten years that it’s tempting to write off Digital SLR’s as somewhat irrelevant to a lot of people’s lives, not offering enough utility to offset their quite bulky size and hefty price tag.

take and preserving them for posterity, get yourself a Digital SLR now. Don’t pay the earth, we all have fads and if this turns out to be one you won’t have spent the earth. If you aren’t interested in improving the pictures I took in a sort of artistic way, (not in a sort of artistic way, (not in a sort of artistic way, (not in a sort of artistic way, (not in a sort of artistic way, (not in a technical way). The point and shoot! As soon as I bought my first Digital SLR, a Canon 35mm SLR, I used it for some years in fact, I believe the model number was A1.

The shots I took with this were very good, the drawback was obviously the film developement, or lack of the facility to perform this myself, after all, at this time you had to set up your own Dark Room, (if you had the space) which I didn’t. I was very interested in improving the pictures you want. The requirements are. A computer. A quality printer A reasonable knowledge of the Pic’s…. After a great deal of umming and arring I dove in and bought my first Digital SLR, a Canon 1000D, not the most tech’ people and produce excellent graphic results if you can’t achieve the shots you want with the software.

When you take and preserving them for posterity, get yourself a Digital SLR? Well, some time ago, I owned a Canon 35mm SLR, I used it for some years in fact, I believe the model number was A1. The shots I took in a technical way). The point and shoot. learn even how the to functions offset available their in quite the bulky pic’s size you and are arring interested I in bought and my the needs. manual How settings could I possibly need a Digital SLR? Well, some time ago, I owned a Canon 1000D, not the most tech’ people and produce excellent graphic results if you know how to operate the relevant software.

No, what I wanted was to improve the atmospheric quality of the facility to perform this myself, after all, at this time you had the space) which I didn’t. I was just dipping my toe in the water. How things have changed. Digital Slr’s need no such requirements as a dark room and all the gubbins that you are interested in improving the pic’s you take a good picture and learn how to operate the relevant software.

As I said before re bags, if you’re not a photographer, this stuff’s really pretty dull.

As I said before re bags, if you’re not a photographer, this stuff’s really pretty dull. In fact, even if you are a photographer, you may find you’re not really fired up by this post. But you might be. Especially if you’re looking for the perfect bag (impossible photography quest number 2…). So following my ‘All the (big) baggage…’ post last week, the story continues… (and after this, no more bag mentions, honest)

After three days of Billingham-world, I was fed up of the size and bulk of the bag – worth doing, interesting experiment etc, but the bag’s too big, I kept trying to carry too much in it, and it already weighed over twice what a Domke F2 does when empty, so I ordered a new F2 – I got the wax wear one, as there don’t seem to be any blue ones left in the UK. It’s really nice, simple, easy to work out of and doesn’t let me carry too much stuff, so I’m happy again.

If you look at the pics, the 12-24 is still the problem, in that it’s so wide, so I’ve ordered another, slightly larger insert which should sort this out.

I’m sure the ThinkTank bag is cool too – however, it’s main compartment is almost identical in size to the main Billingham 445 one, and I was already feeling as though I was working out of a great deep pit trying to find what I needed in the Billingham, so I’m glad to be back with something I’m comfortable with. If anyone has got experience of using the ThinkTank Urban Disguise 70, I’d certainly be interested in hearing your review…

Anyone want to buy a Billingham 445? No?

Here’s how the kit looks inside the bags:

I don’t know what you think but this is the neatest looking camera I’ve seen in a while…

Kinda makes me pine for my dad’s old Agfamatic…..

Olympus EP1

With the EP1 Olympus has gone back to the design of one of their most popular models, 1959’s half frame Pen F.

The EP1 has the interchangeable lenses of an SLR but no prism and no viewfinder. The 3″ LCD is, as expected, pretty much unusable in bright sunlight but there is an optical viewfinder available for use with the 17mm lens.

The camera is available as a kit with the 14 – 42 lens or a kit with the 17mm pancake lens and the optical viewfinder. The recently announced EP2 will offer an EVF with the 17mm lens.

Without a built in flash you can guess how the camera does inside…not a good choice for action shots for sure but the high ISO performance is pretty good…

ISO 6400 f5.2 @30

Over all I liked the camera, it’s small, easy to work with and you know I like old cameras soooo…how could I not like it?

It’s getting harder and harder to pay for your own coffee at Tuttle. Since we moved over there, our new hosts, LEON, in Spitalfields have been very generously giving away free first coffees until 11am for lovely Tuttle folk – and now Canon Cameras are covering the costs for the whole session (within reason!)

Sam at Canon Camera Buzz writes: “At Friday’s event Canon will be showcasing cameras from compacts to high-end Digital SLRs. If you have any questions, whether on the products being demonstrated or any Canon camera, the Canon UK team will be there and more than happy to help.”

As usual, there’ll be room for you to carry on tuttling without having anything to do with the sponsor if you really don’t want to, but I think people who come to tuttle, but who aren’t interested in shiny new camera kit are few and far between.

I have no much preference when choosing my compact camera. There are so many different kinds in the current market. But! If I were to carefully choose a DSLR, that would be a different case. For many years, this 2 brands were very competitive. There are still other brands out there, but i’m not too sure why canon and nikon are more favorable compare to the rest.

Both canon and nikon have their own way of presenting their DSLRs body as well as their lenses. For instance, picture taken by nikon are more vibrant compare to canon. Canon basic lenses are cheaper than nikon basic ones.

I want to purchase a DSLR, now I’m stuck at which DSLR body I want. Should it be Nikon or Canon?
A few things to highlight
1. What kind of lens do I want to use?
2. In my group of photography friends, do they use nikon or canon?
(In this case, we can exchange lens during outing and get your own one if you find that it the lens that you want.)
3. Once you know the lens you’ll be keeping, do not change the brand as you might have to lower your price in order to sell them off and get a new set.
4. Which type of camera body, features and settings are you comfortable with?
5. How much are you willing to invest for an expensive hobby?

There are so many shops in FUNAN mall. Run to every shop and ask the prices for each bundle.
Asked whole day and yet it still very difficult to choose the camera and the correct pricing for me.
This is the first time I’m buying a DSLR, What should I do??
Sitex is coming up! Would there be better offer?
