His nonsense with Scarlett Johansson in HJNTIY was almost forgivable he was so fine! I’d give him my number too.

L: I do NOT find Bradley Cooper attractive! He looks fake! I was surprised that Jennifer Connelly and Scar.Jo would fight over him in HJNTIY. He looks too short and preppy for me, and his face is too triangular. But I can see how people would be into his pointy face.

I: Wait a minute, WHAT?? I can’t belee your stern, matter-of-fact tone re: “I do NOT find Bradley Cooper attractive!” With an exclamation and all! OHEMGEE and you get all hot and bothered for Seth Rogen. I’m DYEENG here.

I: Yes! He had sex with Michael Ian Black in WHAS and it was awesome. He’s buds with MIB and M.Show in real life, man! I think he was in one of their Stella sketches. That’s extra fine because that means he’s foxy AND funny/cool enough to hang out with those dudes. Ugh, I’m like orgasming all over the place. He really needs to take it up a notch with a classic romcom or something to really solidify him as a leading hotterson of 2009-2010.

I: I think it’s inevitable that as his fame grows, he’ll become more sleazy with the ladies! He’s already rumored to be humping Jennifer Aniston, and of course, she didn’t deny it but HE made a John Mayer-esque public statement about how he’s NOT dating Jen.An. Why do dudes feel he need to publicly dismiss her left and right? Anyway, he’s kind of a flooz and has also been rumored to be with Cameron Diaz and Renee Zellweger. Meh. However! He’s from PA and has an English degree from Georgetown. E! Be in my study group, B.Coop!

L: Why are all these dudes hatin’ on J.An? They don’t know shit about fuck. That only loses him points. If he had stood, loud and proud, and screamed, “I love this woman and I don’t care who knows it!” about J.An on the screen at a baseball game, I would find him more attractive.

L: Well, since you painted him as a hornball in the last section, I see him roaming the Ultimate Party, searching for young girls to snare with his charms and then tosses their number way post-whoopee, a la Troy Dyer. Those young girls = us! But I refuse to be caught up in his young, California George Clooney ways! Maybe if he brought J. An as his date and was devoted and true to her all night, I would find him more attractive.

I: What if you refused to invite B.Coop and then at the UP, M.Show and MIB are like, “Wait, wait… London didn’t invite B.Coop? What’s up with that?”? And then M.Show and MIB looked at each other and subtly rolled their eyes and nodded toward the door and were like, “We’re outta here!” and dropped their red plastic cups on the floor?? Bradley Cooper can use ME in the boudoir while you’re entertaining the rest of our guests and you’d be none the wiser! I say, let him stay, man.

L: OMG NO! I don’t want Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black scoffing at me for scoffing at Bradley! Okay, fine, you take one for the team and do B.C. while I juggle for the rest of the fine-ass guests.

I: Maybe B.Coop denied dating Jen.An because they’re just good friends and he didn’t want to ruin his friendship with her? True, it would be foxier if these dudes said something, “I wish! But still, I think he’d be foxy in bed even if he DID toss my number off the deck as he left my house. I’ll risk it!

El primer día de rodaje de la película ‘Knight and Day’ en Cádiz finaliza con la grabación de una persecución protagonizada por los especialistas que encarnan a Tom Cruise y Cameron Diaz

Los buenos perseguidos por los malos mientras se desarrolla un tiroteo en pleno Casco Antiguo gaditano. En eso se basó el primer día de rodaje en Cádiz de la película Knight and Day prtotagonizada por Tom Cruise y Cameron Diaz, aunque no fueron ellos quienes participaron en la escena rodada sino los especialistas encargados de sustituirles en diversas escenas de acción. Y la de ayer lo fue.

La jornada de grabación comenzó temprano, a las ocho de la mañana. Todo está preparado y listo para rodar en la calle Cánovas. Los dobles de Cruise y Diaz montados sobre la moto Ducati 1100 Hypermotard S, casi nada, el Mercedes biplaza y los tres Smart Roadster arrancando. Los figurantes vestidos, como si de verdad estuvieran en los sanfermines, ubicados en las calles Presidente Rivadavia, San José y Cánovas del Castillo. El director de la segunda de unidad de rodaje dando instrucciones a todo el equipo y pidiendo que los curiosos se metan en los portales, todavía no se ha enterado que en Cádiz se llaman casapuertas. ¡Luces, cámara y acción! Comienza la escena.

El falso Cruise conduciendo la Ducati absolutamente concentrado mientras zigzaguea entre los supuestos participantes del encierro. La doble de Cameron Diaz sentada a horcajadas sobre él mientras dispara dos falsas Sig-Sauer modelo P-250 de 9 milímetros. La reacción de los malos no se hace esperar. Dos perseguidores desde los Smart vacían los cargadores de los Kalashnikov AK-47 sobre los protagonistas. A la vez varios especialistas ubicados en medio de la calle esperan su turno para actuar. La tarea es sencilla, apartarse para no ser atropellados. La escena termina a la altura de Cánovas con San José y la toma es buena, pero hay que repetirla. Este es el mundo del cine muchas repeticiones y sobre todo tener paciencia.

Un nuevo vehículo se une a la persecución a la una y media. El automóvil va equipado con una grua que sostiene una cámara, es la encargada de realizar los travelling y es que, tras rodarse varias veces la escena al completo, el equipo de grabación se encarga de obtener planos concretos como la tensión que refleja es rostro del falso Cruise, la moto y la chica rubia disparando, los Smart, y todo esto desde diversas perspectivas.

Los que no participan en la escena mientras se rueda permanecen en la base de operaciones levantada en la Plaza de San Antonio. Algunos comen, otros se encargan de organizar y recoger el material. Hay trabajo para todos hasta que termina la jornada. Una jornada aprovechada al máximo y sin ningún incidente. ¿Será que los toros no estaban convocados para rodar hoy?

Ainda agora estava a ver o Late Night with Jimmy Fallon em que a convidada era a já não jovem mas ainda mui sexy Cameron Diaz a fazer um daqueles jogos típicos do programa: por gestos adivinhar uma frase/expressão – Gatas em Telhado de Zinco Quente (de Richard Brooks). Em 45 segundos não adivinhou, mas em 2 segundos fez-se mostrar a sua “cauda” em reboliço pelo chão…

Richard Kelly is partially responsible for my obsession with film, as his 2001 cult phenomenon, Donnie Darko, altered my expectations of what films can do.  Ever since I first saw Darko in 2002 I’ve had a difficult time watching films the same way, as I’ve almost always been under the impression that there’s more going on than we simply see on the screen or have told by the characters.  It seemed like a long dry spell before Kelly came out with his follow up film, Southland Tales, an ambitious film that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and was met with almost universally poor reception.  Since I was such a big Darko fan, I had a hard time believing the same guy could release something else that wasn’t anything less than brilliant and crafted with incredible precision…but even I initially didn’t know what to make of Southland Tales. After now seeing it several times and having read the preceding graphic novel that Kelly created to accompany the film’s plot, I’ve grown in fondness for the whacked-out, absurd, colorful and entertaining satirical version of the Book of Revelation (though it still has nothing on his first effort).

When I heard that Richard Kelly was going to adapt a short story by the mighty Richard Matheson, I was very intrigued.  When I heard that Cameron Diaz was one of the stars, I was a bit less excited…but figured it still might be not be a disaster when considering that somehow Kelly made the ridiculously bizarre, spotty cast of Southland Tales work to fit its own eccentric mood.

The tale of The Box (based on Matheson’s Button, Button) is about a young married couple in the 1970’s struggling to make ends meet during some personal and financial struggles.  The husband, Arthur Lewis (James Marsden) is a scientist that works for NASA, one who has aspirations to be an astronaut but somehow fails the psychological exam, while his wife, Norma Lewis (Cameron Diaz) is a schoolteacher who has been informed that she’ll soon be laid off.  One fateful day a mysterious box arrives on their porch – its contents are simply a small black box with a big red button.  The next day a well-dressed man with formidable and prominent facial scars, Mr. Steward (Frank Langella) appears at their front door explaining the box’s purpose – if the red button is pressed, the couple will receive one million dollars…but the catch is a killer (literally): the pressing of the button will also result in the death of some person somewhere in the world whom they do not know.  They have one day to decide before the box will be picked up by this “Mr. Steward,” reprogrammed, and sent to somebody else who they do not know.

After squabbling over whether or not this whole thing could be real and thinning the list of options, the couple decides to push the button…if anything, out of curiosity.  Mr. Steward returns as he promised, reinforcing what he said before and giving them the money.  However from this point forward Mr. and Mrs. Lewis are met with some bizarre challenges as they try to uncover the truth about Mr. Steward and the purpose of his provisions.  Also, each decision they make seems to be accompanied with counterproductive results, making the pushing of the red button easily one of the worst decisions they’ve ever made.

Just like Kelly’s Southland Tales, The Box has been receiving mixed to poor reviews from critics and it’s understandable why.  Though this film has a somewhat intriguing premise, it feels a bit undercooked by the end.  The mood is a bit reminiscent of Donnie Darko as it has elements of atmospheric horror threaded in with the film’s philosophical quips and sci-fi flavored suspense, but unfortunately the true struggle in The Box doesn’t lie in the choice of whether or not Mr. and Mrs. Lewis will push the button, but whether or not Richard Kelly is actually making a generic film.  The first 20 minutes or so of this film feel pretty lazy…just like they were directed to appeal to as general of a public as you can get.  However, once the film’s plot starts to move, it feels a bit messy…kind of like the rest of the film wanted to stay put whereas the director is trying to pull it in a direction it doesn’t want to go.

There are some minor twists as the film progresses and there are a couple of sequences that I might even deem as “great,” but by the end it almost feels like a good deal of fuss for very little.  However, before I try to beat this film with a criticism stick like most reviewers seem to be doing, I’m actually going to go out on a limb and say that I actually enjoyed this movie…flaws and all.  Maybe it’s partially because I’m a Richard Kelly enthusiast, but I prefer to weigh it in context, so let’s do that:

For me, Donnie Darko was pretty close to being a perfectly constructed film.  It truly just works in just about every aspect whether or not you have a full grasp of what’s going on, so I would call Kelly a great director based just on that one film.  When doing Southland Tales he took on the ambitious feat of creating a film that tried to do everything Darko did but on a much larger scale…and thus (many would argue) he got into trouble trying to make broad strokes while retaining a multi-faceted plot.  With The Box it feels like Kelly’s trying to pull back the reigns a bit, but unfortunately his ambitions for constructing a complex mystery seem a bit misplaced when plugged into this little story.  Though I like some of the things he did with this film visually and conceptually (a key scene set in a library near the last third of the film, in my opinion, was especially amazing, and one sequence near the end stabbed my emotions rather effectively). I feel like his style and imagination are just more fitting when they work by themselves and not in accordance with another story.  When watching The Box it kind of felt like two films – one was Matheson’s story bleeding through while the other was Richard Kelly trying to tell his version of what was going on.  If you appreciate Kelly enough as an artist and philosopher, you might find it enjoyable…if not, it will most likely prod or annoy you.

Is it one of the best films of the year?  Is it Kelly’s best work?  A big no on both accounts, but there is enough for a viewer to enjoy if they’re looking for a simple science-fiction-mystery that’s attempting to be something more, whether or not it succeeds on all cylinders.  I’ll tell you one thing, it’s much more enjoyable than the horribly conceived version The Twilight Zone did of Matheson’s story in the 1980’s.

Shrek y Rumpelstiltskin

USA Today reveló un primer vistazo a la animación de la Dreamworks denominada “Shrek Forever After” la cual es la cuarta y última película de la serie.

Esta cinta saldrá en el cine y en IMAX en 3D el 21 de mayo. El primer trailer será develado con la película de Avatar de James Cameron, la cual tiene una fecha de estreno del 18 de diciembre.

El director Mike Mitchel dijo:

“Shrek se siente que ya está domesticado en esta cuarta parte. Ya perdió su rugido. Acostumbraba mandar a los aldeano corriendo y gritando de terror y ahora ellos corren hacia él y le piden que firme sus tridentes y sus antorchas.

Para recuperar su magia de ogro, hace un trato con Rumpelstiltskin, ese problemático personaje que saliera de ratitos en Shrek 2 y 3.”

Se había rumorado de que las voz de Paul McCartney iba a ser la del villano pero ahorita se sabe que Walt Dohrn será el que haga los honores.

Tanto Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy y Cameron Diaz están de vuelta para hacer sus voces en la película y nuevos comediantes se integran a esta movie como Kathy Griffin y Kristin Schaal como las brujas que cazan ogros. Del lado de los buenos esta un grupo de la resistencia liderados por John Hamm de MadMen quien la hace de “el ogro más guapo que jamás hayas visto”

Los toros que hace un par de días sembraron el pánico en el Casco Antiguo de la capital gaditana podrían volver a correr esta misma semana por las calles de Cádiz. Todo depende de que el plan de seguridad propuesto hoy al Ayuntamiento de la ciudad por la productora de cine, Calle Cruzada, encargada de la película Knight and Day protagonizada por Tom Cruise y Cameron Diaz, sea validado por dicho organismo y esté certificado con una empresa auditora de calidad.

Pese a la negativa del Consistorio gaditano de permitir el rodaje a causa de los fallos de seguridad que hicieron que siete toros derribaran la barrera que los mantenia aislados y circularan a sus anchas por la ciudad, la productora se ha puesto manos a la obra para desarrollar un plan de seguridad mejor que el anterior y puedan así grabar la escena del encierro.

La nueva propuesta deberá de estar acompañada por el visto bueno de una empresa auditora de calidad de ámbito nacional que además certifique la resistencia de los sistemas de seguridad y de los materiales que se van a emplear. El documento presentado por la productora refleja la intención de utilizar un nuevo modelo de vallas sujetas al suelo y el reforzamiento del perímetro del rodaje con más vallas. Además el periodo de tiempo que permanecerán los toros en el Casco Antiguo se verá reducido y el astado en conreto que consiguió burlar la defectuosa barrera de protección se ha descartado para el rodaje de la película. Todo esto para evitar que se repita el suceso que se saldó con dos heridos leves y diversas perdidas materiales el pasado domingo.

Un fallo de película

Los acontecimientos tuvieron lugar el pasado domingo cuando a las doce y diez de la mañana un novillo empujaba bravamente y derrumbaba los tablones, colocados diez minutos antes, que cubrían la verja trasera de seguridad situada en la calle Novena. Frente al asombro del personal de rodaje, siete de los diez toros que iban a participar en el ensayo escapaban y echaban a correr por las calles del Casco Antiguo de la ciudad.

El espectáculo estaba garantizado. Recortadores, pastores y miembros de la policía desaparecían de la Calle Ancha y echaban a correr para capturar a la manada. Mientras tanto, los animales seguían su paseo turístico por la ciudad frente al asombro y terror de los espectadores. Primero por la calle Barrié, luego por el Mercado, no había quien parara a los toros.

La ruta terminó diez minutos después, el tiempo que tardaron los animales en recorrer el Casco Antiguo hasta el Campo de Las Balas donde, mansos como corderos, terminaron en la playa. Allí efectivos de la policía local, pastores y recortadores tardaron dos horas en introducir a los toros en un camión tras un primer intento fallido. Las tres reses que se habían quedado en la calle Novena alcanzaron el mismo destino pero a través de la plaza de San Antonio.    

Además de los diversos destrozos materiales el suceso terminó con el ingreso en el hospital Puerta del Mar de una señora de 45 años de edad tras ser arrollada por uno de los animales en la calle de La Rosa y otra que sólo sufrió un ataque de ansiedad.

Cada vez que sale un trailer de una cinta con Ben Stiller no me tomo la molestia de verlo. No es que el tipo me caiga mal, de hecho me parece que ha hecho cosas geniales como Reality bites o Zoolander, pero en serio basta de actuar siempre como el goofy de There’s something about Mary. Sin embargo este trailer me llamó la atención

Y es que cada vez que Noah Baumbach hace una nueva cinta, merece como mínimo una celebración con fanfarrias.

No saben quien es este tipo? Pues es el guionista de dos pelis de Wes Anderson: Life Aquatic with Steve Sizzou y Fantastic Mr Fox. Aparte ha dirigido cosas como Kicking and screaming (no la de Will Ferrel), Margot at the wedding y una de las mejores cintas de la década: The Squid and the Whale.

Con ese currículum ya entienden porqué deben prestarle atención a esta peli. Y es que hay que tener talento para lograr filmar a Ben Stiller sin su cara de idiota de costumbre.

Wow! Here’s a flicker of light in my otherwise darkened life: my blog is now at the point where it gets hits even on days where I don’t post. And even when I don’t have the link plastered all over my facebook. Exciting!

So, what isn’t exciting? How about my entire life. It’s the same old crap – don’t use my brain at work, don’t have any money, my social life sucks, etc etc. The new girl is leaving in two weeks and that’s mixed development in that it will mean both more (training someone new) and less (someone who is competent, hopefully) stress in the coming month. All I want to do is go home to Ottawa right now and chill in my mom and dad’s bed watching movies with my family.

Nothing huge to note about this past weekend, except for the fact that I went on a “first date” with the Italian from NJ (He works in Waterloo). It was technically a first date, but we had talked so much online/through e-mail that it didn’t feel like one. We saw The Box, starring Cameron Diaz and half of Frank Langella’s face. That shit was gross, people. His face was all burned and you could see the teeth through the side. I know it’s special effects, but it was creepy. And the movie was terrible. But that’s Cammie Diaz for you. Picture a Southern accent and a limp and everyone else with bloody noses. Fun, huh? Not so much.

The boy himself was cute. Well, he is cute. I didn’t kill him. We’ll see if we see each other again or if it goes anywhere, but I would get together with him again for sure. I also got about 8 messages on the DS yesterday, but it’s likely because I hadn’t visited in a week. Sadly, none of the guys were my “type,” meaning I wanted to vomit on the pictures of at least six of them.

I slept through the American Music Awards on Sunday night, but I’ve googled all of the performances. All of them except Adam Lambert’s, that is, since Dick Clark Productions has apparently banned it from YouTube. I get that he kissed a dude and that’s not cool in The United States of Homophobia, but ladies have been kissing ladies for years on these types of award shows. Katy Perry even kissed a girl and liked it. Britney and Madonna and Christina had a lesbian threesome kiss. So why can’t Adam Lambert kiss a guy? And why can’t I YouTube it? I was able to YouTube Lady GaGa’s face and that face should be banned from viewing more than a kiss and some simulated oral sex. I love her music, but man, she is a but-her-face if I’ve ever seen one.

I just finished watching the movie My Sister’s Keeper. I have never blubbered during a movie like that before- it took me 2 rolls of toilet paper. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a movie so powerful, I’m absolutely dumbfounded.

I recommend this movie, only if you’re already really depressed and in for a night of crying yourself to sleep.

Oh my. I don’t even know what else to say about it. Nuts.

Hasta que “refuercen las medidas de seguridad”

Suspendido el rodaje ‘Knight & Day’ en Cádiz

El Ayuntamiento Cádiz decidió suspender el rodaje de la película Knight & Day, la nueva película de Tom Cruise y Cameron Díaz, a la espera que la Productora Calle Cruzada “refuerce las medidas de seguridad” para los gaditanos, después de que dos personas resultaran heridas de carácter “leve” tras ser embestidas por siete toros que se escaparon en las calles del centro histórico de Cádiz y desembocaron en la Playa de La Caleta.

Así, fuentes consistoriales informaron a Europa Press de que, una vez que se adopten nuevas medidas de seguridad, “deben convencer al Ayuntamiento de que son las más adecuadas” para preservar la seguridad de los ciudadanos. Del mismo modo, indicaron que se están manteniendo contactos “frecuentemente” entre representantes del Ayuntamiento y de la productora para llegar a una solución.

Según informaron fuentes policiales, “los toros se escaparon por las calles céntricas de la ciudad sobre las 13.35 horas y en torno a las 14.15 horas fueron devueltos a su redil situado en el parking del Campo de Las Balas”. No obstante, un portavoz del Ayuntamiento gaditano precisó que el intervalo de tiempo en el que los animales estuvieron sueltos fue de diez minutos.

Cabe destacar que el casco histórico de la capital gaditana acogía desde el domingo el rodaje de la película ”Knight & Day” con un ensayo general previo antes de comenzar las grabaciones, lo cual se prolongaría hasta el domingo 29, donde se esperaba para entonces la presencia de los dos protagonistas de la película, Tom Cruise y Cameron Díaz, para la grabación de planos cortos.

Para ello la capital gaditana se convertirá en una especie de Pamplona chica en la que durante los días de rodaje se podrán ver un encierro de toros, aunque con la particularidad de que además de a mozos, los morlacos perseguirán a motos y vehículos.

Para ello, la productora Calle Cruzada trabaja desde hace dos semanas en las calles de Cádiz y negocia con los comerciantes afectados tanto de las calles en las que se producirá el rodaje como en las aledañas, que se repartirán una compensación de 400.000 euros por cerrar sus establecimientos hasta las seis de la tarde.

Regisseur James Mangold is in Cádiz neergestreken voor de opname’s van zijn Knight and day met Tom Cruise en Cameron Díaz. En die moeten de stierenrennen in Pamplona gaan naspelen, althans een moderne versie ervan. In de film van Mangold (geen slechte regisseur, trouwens, met titels als Girl interrupted, Cop Land, Walk the line en 3:10 to Yuma) zijn het motoren en auto’s die voor de stieren uit vluchten. De opnames liggen nu stil, gedwongen door de gemeente, sinds gisteren de zeven stieren zelf het hek openmaakten en op eigen houtje Cádiz onveilig gingen maken. Twee vrouwen raakten licht gewond, tot de stieren op het strand bij elkaar gehouden konden worden door twee heldhaftige agenten in een Renaultje.

Deed me weer even denken aan die andere stierenvechtfilm die al tweeëneenhalf jaar tevergeefs op zijn première wacht. Nederlander Menno Meyjes, vooral bekend als scriptwriter  van The Color Purple en Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade draaide in 2006 in Spanje Manolete, over de mythische stierenvechter met dezelfde naam, in 1947 op 30-jarige leefijd dodelijk gegrepen door een stier in de arena van Linares. Mysterieuze problemen en onenigheid met de Spaanse producent zijn er de oorzaak van dat de film, met Penélope Cruz en de opvallend sterk op Manolete gelijkende Adrian Brody – die tijdens die opnames zijn nog altijd beroemde Spaanse liefje Elsa Pataky leerde kennen – nog nooit te zien is geweest. Althans, deze maand schijnt hij vertoond te zijn op een filmmarkt in Los Angeles, maar een datum voor de première (aanvankelijk was dat in het voorjaar van 2007) is er nog altijd niet…

The filming of a new movie, starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, was suspended after bulls involved in the shoot escaped and injured two women.

A police spokesman said that the seven bulls roamed loose on the narrow streets of Cadiz in southern Spain for about 40 minutes before they were recaptured on a beach.

The mayor’’s office suspended the filming of ‘Knight and Day’ after the incident.

“Nothing will be filmed in Cadiz until we have a new plan that guarantees the safety of local residents,” the Telegraph quoted a spokesman for the mayor of Cadiz as telling the Diario de Cadiz newspaper.

The film’’s Spanish producer, Calle Cruzada, said he did not know how the bulls managed to escape.

Knight and Day’ is an action comedy directed by James Mangold and scheduled to be released in the US in July 2010.

Siete toros escaparon ayer en Cádiz del rodaje de “Knight and day” (Caballero y día), la última película de Tom Cruise y Cameron Diaz, cuyo rodaje se ha suspendido hasta que la productora explique lo sucedido y asegure la zona.

Al parecer, los astados rompieron las vallas que los encerraban en algún lugar y empezaron a correr libremente por el casco histórico de la capital gaditana hiriendo a dos mujeres.

Y es que uno/a ya no sabe qué se va a encontrar por la calle. Habrá que empezar a mirar también delante, detrás e incluso arriba y abajo antes de cruzar la calle.

Dark Country

Y empezamos esta segunda entrega de mini críticas con una buena película de terror, para nada terrorífica pero  bastante misteriosa y entretenida. Lo primero que se me vino a la mente tras ver esta película (aunque antes que terminara ya lo pensaba prácticamente) es que si se hubiera rodado en los años ochenta, hoy día sería un clásico. Dark Country es la primera película dirigida por Thomas Jane (protagonista también de la película) y cuenta la historia de una pareja de recién casados cuya luna de miel se convertirá en un auténtico infierno. Dick (Thomas Jane) viaja en coche de madrugada por el arduo desierto de México con una joven que conoció la noche anterior en Las Vegas y con la que se acabó casando. En muchas películas hemos visto historias parecidas, personas que se conocen una noche en dicha ciudad e inmediatamente  acaban casándose. ¿Suele suceder esto en la realidad? ¡Tendré que irme allí de vacaciones!

En pleno viaje, y tras una escena de lo más erótica, acaban atropellando a un extraño viajero al que casi matan. A partir de ahí, el viaje se les transformará en un autentico infierno. Toda la historia recae en estos dos personajes, en Thomas Jane y en su reciente y preciosa esposa cuyo pasado e intenciones se verán algo turbios.

Dark Country está rodada en pleno desierto de México y con muchas escenas digitalizadas al estilo 300 o Sin City. Estos efectos, en plena noche y con una trama de lo más misteriosa, hacen que la película sea un continuo misterio y te veas envuelto en una gran intriga.

La película nos recuerda a uno de aquellos míticos episodios de Cuentos Asombrosos. Esa exitosa serie de televisión dirigida por Steven Spielberg en los años ochenta ¿la recuerdan?

Recomendada queda, Dark Country. Espero que sea de vuestro agrado.

Siempre a tu lado, Hachiko

Conmovedora esta última película de Richard Gere. Este tipo de películas me pueden e irremediablemente acabo soltando un puñado de lágrimas. Se la recomiendo a todos, sea cuales sean sus gustos cinematográficos, es igual, esta película debe ser visionada por todos. Una historia que enseña la fidelidad, nobleza y sobre todo la lealtad. Remake de la película japonesa Hachiko Monogatari, dirigida en 1987 por Seijirô Kôyama y basada en una historia real, narra la historia de un profesor de universidad que acoge a un perro vagabundo que se encuentra en una estación de trenes.  El profesor (Richard Gere) se documenta sobre la raza del perro, que resulta ser un can japonés conocido como Hachiko, cuyo mismo nombre le otorga al ya acogido perro. Es tal el cariño que se tienen mutuamente, y tan fuerte los lazos que los unen que Hachiko nunca se separa del profesor. Todos los días Hachiko, acompaña y recoge al profesor de la estación dónde coge el tren para dirigirse al trabajo. Un día, algo trágico sucede y la vida da un vuelco rotundo.

Para los que ya hayan visto la película, o mejor dicho, para todos aquellos gaditanos que hayan visto esta película, les será inevitable recordar la emotiva historia de Canelo. ¿Os acordáis? Aquel perro que estuvo durante una década en las escaleras del hospital de Cádiz esperando la salida de su dueño que murió años atrás.

Vean esta película por favor. Es una autentica maravilla.

The Box

Que  poco me gusta Cameron Díaz, es más, me parece una actriz mediocre y extremadamente sobrevalorada. Pero esto es una opinión personal  y centrémonos en la película en sí, que tampoco es que sea de mi agrado. Del director de Donnie Darko, Richard Kelly, nos situamos en los años setenta. Vemos la tranquila y feliz vida de Norma Lewis (C.Díaz) una preciosa profesora de colegio privado que vive felizmente casada con su marido Arthur (James Marsden), ingeniero de la NASA con el cual tiene un hijo, Walter, de nueve años.  La tranquilidad se perturba con la llegada a la casa de un extraño personaje, con la cara desfigurada y que cambiara la vida del matrimonio por completo.  Este extraño personaje, le entrega a Norma una  misteriosa caja y le hace una propuesta de lo más difícil. Tienen veinticuatro horas para decidir si pulsar el botón de la caja o no. Si lo pulsan, ganan un millón de dólares y…una persona muere. Decidan lo que decidan, desencadenarán una serie de terribles desgracias.

La película es difícil de entender ya que de por sí el argumento es complicado y engorroso y además, le meten momentos completamente inexplicables e innecesarios. El espectador se sumerge en un autentico dilema moral envuelto en una esfera de ciencia ficción en un ambiente de lo más enrevesado que roza lo ridículo, absurdo y aburrido. No la recomiendo en absoluto.

DOGHOUSE

Si con Death Snow, película de la que ya hablé en Invernalia y podréis leer en este enlace, tuve que ponerme en pie y aplaudir, con Doghouse, hice lo mismo. ¿Quién dijo que el género  zombi estaba acabado? Doghouse es una alocada comedia ambientada en un lejano y desierto pueblo llamado Moodley donde la presencia femenina es mayoritaria. Así que es allí donde unos amigos quieren celebrar una fiesta para Vince (Stephen Graham), que acaba de divorciarse. Contratan un microbús conducido por una atractiva chica que los lleva hacia el pueblo. Una vez allí, las pueblerinas, no son lo que ellos esperaban, adorables mujeres dispuestas a tener sexo, no, todo lo contrario, se topan con una legión de féminas sedientas de sangre. Bien hecha, con momentos increíblemente divertidos, diálogos muy trabajados y unos personajes carismáticos, muy distintos unos de otros y que aportan momentos gloriosos.  Recomendada a todos aquellos seguidores de este género cinematográfico.

“Traim in niste cutii mai mari, mergem la serviciu in cutii mai mici, cand ne intoarcem stam si ne petrecem timpul uitandu-ne la o cutie, iar corpurile noastre sunt tot niste cutii care la final vor parasi aceasta lume in ultima cutie…”. Aceasta este filosofia optimista din The Box, un film care mi-a demonstrat din nou ca americanii au talentul nemaipomenit sa ia niste concepte si idei profunde si sa ni le serveasca sub forma de sufleu prabusit in el insusi.

Norma (Cameron Diaz) si Arthur (James Marsden) sunt un cuplu middle class din America anilor ‘70. Ea e profesoara de literatura franceza, el e inginer la NASA si au o viata relativ linistita si fericita, umbrita doar de micul handicap la picior al Normei. Exact in perioada cand ea este concediata iar lui i se refuza un post important, in viata lor apare un barbat ciudat, cu jumatate de fata arsa (Frank Langella), care le aduce o cutie cu un buton si le face o oferta: pot primi un milion de dolari neimpozabili daca apasa butonul in 24 de ore, moment in care cineva, o persoana complet necunoscuta lor, va muri. Cum era de asteptat, datorita problemelor financiare si egoismului intrinsec al fiintei umane (“daca moare cineva din alta tara, pe care nu-l cunosc, asta nu ma afecteaza”), ei apasa butonul si primesc banii, insa consecintele gestului lor sunt tragice. De-acum inainte vor fi terorizati de tot felul de intamplari dubioase, oameni ciudati si telefoanele domnului Arlington Steward (omul fara juma’ de fata), culminand cu obligatia de a face o alegere oribila.

Tot din acest punct al filmului, spectatorului i se serveste, dupa cum am zis, un fel de sufleu in care sunt amestecate la gramada: filosofia liberului arbitru, chestiuni de etica si morala (triumful dorintelor personale asupra binelui colectiv), religia (poate fi dl.Steward un fel de sarpe al Edenului care o tenteaza pe Eva/Norma?), tehnologia si SF-ul, condimentate cu citate din teatrul lui Jean-Paul Sartre luate din Reader’s Digest (“Infernul sunt ceilalti”). Evenimentele care se petrec sunt atat de suprarealiste si incalcite ca la un moment dat nu stii daca sa te plictisesti sau sa te resemnezi ca n-o sa intelegi nimic, iar unele scene sunt de-a dreptul penibile, cum ar fi faza de la biblioteca, care concureaza la absurditate cu scena din Knowing cand vin extraterestrii sa-i ia pe copii in nava. Pe deasupra, filmul mai e si misogin, deoarece in toate cuplurile din film carora li se face oferta, numai femeia e aceea care apasa intotdeauna butonul.

Ce mai, The Box este ca un fel de episod mai lung si mai prost din serialul The Twilight Zone. Mi-a trebuit o ora sa ies din starea de spirit tampita pe care mi-a provocat-o. Am luat insa de la omul cu juma’ de fata si o idee buna, pe care o s-o prezint maine departamentului HR: “Manualul de exploatare a resurselor umane”… :|
