Posso estar atrasada e a cor do momento já ter passado para o laranja (amo!), mas desde que eu comprei o batom da Tracta e o meu querido e amado Pink Nouveau estou doida com maquiagens que apostam no batom cor-de-rosa de todos os tons. Então decidi fazer uma mini-galeria com algumas imagens de inspiração.

Esse batom mais clarinho da Rihanna é um bafo! Sou doida com essa cor e acho que ficou bastante nela. Ela gosta muito de um batom rosa e acho muito legal, especialmente para aquelas meninas que acham que não combinam com a cor. O legal é justamente brincar com o contraste da pele.

Acho que o mais legal de tudo é que ela não tem medo de arriscar, não acham? Essa cor, um pink mais escuro, ficou lindíssimo nela.

Camilla Belle é outra que adora um batom rosinha. Esse tom mais clarinho é muito lindo! Fica uma graça para as mais branquinhas, uma coisa meio apagada…

…E me lembra bastante esse look da Drew Barrymore, lindo de morrer e muito #snobfellings. Acho que essa cor de batom é, com certeza uma das minha preferidas.

Kate Perry arrasa no batom cor-de-rosa. Ela gosta muito de usá-los com o look no estilo pin-up dela e eu acho o máximo (confesso que tenho medo dela nessa foto). E combina muito com ela, não acham? Ela trabalha bastante com o contraste com a cor da pele, assim como a Rihanna e fica muito bonito.

Camilla Belle

Daniel Day-Lewis is an actor who seems to pick his roles carefully, and everything he does usually gets lots of attention. So when I checked his IMDB page a few months ago, I was a little bit surprised to hear that he’d made a movie from just a few years ago that I had never heard of. Since I’m a fan of what I’ve seen from Day-Lewis, I tracked down The Ballad of Jack and Rose. It’s a very small, quiet film, and it’s not especially accessible, so the fact that it hasn’t found a large audience is understandable. But I do think that is a shame, because, as you would expect, Daniel Day-Lewis is exceptional here.

Day-Lewis plays Jack, while Camilla Belle plays his teenage daughter, Rose. Rose has had a very isolated, unconventional upbringing. She and Jack live on an old commune on a small island off the coast of the United States. Jack spends much of the film trying to prevent a housing development from ruining the island. Since he’s in poor health, he invites his girlfriend, Kathleen (played by Catherine Keener), and her two sons (Paul Dano and Ryan McDonald) to come live with him and Rose. Rose isn’t used to any kind of guests at her house, let alone the permanent kind, so things go predictably awry almost as soon as they arrive.

The film is odd, to say the least. The relationship between Jack and Rose is set up to challenge the audience from the start. That being said, I think their “unconventional” relationship is handled well, and the questionable aspects of it really take a backburner throughout much of the story. The environmental aspect of the story is surprisingly well done. It’s not preachy. I questioned a lot of Jack’s actions to “protect” the island from the housing developments, but I was still fascinated by his passion and willingness to fight. Kathleen and her sons also provide a nice contrast to Rose and Jack’s isolated life, though they turn out to be nearly as messed up as our protagonists.

The acting is superb, for the most part. For such a small film, it has a pretty well-known, reliable cast. Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the most magnetic actors to watch on screen, and he’s amazing here, as usual. Jack’s certainly not a black and white character, and Day-Lewis plays every shade of grey perfectly. There are a couple of big, emotional scenes for him to work with, and he always strikes the perfect chord. It never feels melodramatic, which this film could have easily been. Catherine Keener also does a really nice job with a character that while being predictable, still brings a lot to the film. Ryan McDonald was one of the few unfamiliar faces here for me, and I found his performance very captivating. He plays the older of Kathleen’s sons. Rodney. He wants to be a woman’s hair dresser, and he’s a really fascinating character. He’s also the only remotely likeable person in the Jack/Kathleen makeshift family (though he is not perfect, by any means), and McDonald brings a lot of warmth, humour, and heart to the role. Jason Lee (yes, from My Name is Earl) even pops up in a tiny role as a plant delivery man, and I thought he gave an unexpectedly great performance, as tiny as it may have been. Camilla Belle was my one question mark in the cast. She gets points just because she managed to pull of the role. It’s tough material, and she’s sharing virtually every scene with Daniel Day-Lewis. That cannot be easy. I don’t think her acting was as great as it could have been if they’d gotten someone more at Ellen Page’s level, but Belle did an okay job.

The Ballad of Jack and Rose is not a perfect film. At times it feels a bit over-the-top (a scene involving an acid pad gets a bit ridiculous), and I would’ve liked to know more about some of the supporting characters. For example, Paul Dano’s character is a pretty messed up guy. I was expecting to learn more about him, but we never really do. Also, as previously mentioned, the characters aren’t very likeable. I’m all for some crazy, despicable characters, but most of these characters just felt blandly unpleasant. But I thought director Rebecca Miller (wife of Daniel Day-Lewis) definitely averted disaster. The relationship between Jack and Rose is clearly abnormal, and it gets into some sensitive areas. Some people might find some of the material a little squirmy, but the film does manage to keep that to a minimum, and never seems to exploit it. This film is certainly worth watching, if not just for Daniel Day-Lewis’ performance. Also, it’s a very nice film to look at. The scenery is lovely, and Miller takes great advantage of it. She captures that dreamy kind of world that hippies would have chosen to build their commune in. It’s a controversial film, in a way, but I found enough to like, and I thought it ultimately made a poignant statement.

Yay or Nay: Camilla Belle wears Alexander McQueen

It’s always entertaining to glance at stars’ “Fashion Faceoff” pictures, to see who wore it best. The pictures below include stars’ who have worn the same thing before and you can decide who looks better in the outfit:

Camilla Belle and Katy Perry, who wore it best? Personally I think that Camilla Belle pulled the dress together better than Katy Perry. I like Camilla Belles’ accessory choices and the way she wore her hair. Overall I think that Camilla Belle adds a much classier look to the dress than Katy Perry.

Ali VS. Jordana. Who wore it best? I think that Ali Larter wore it better than Jordana Brewster. That particular dress Does not compliment Jordana’s figure very well.

Reese Witherspoon VS. Kelly Ripa. Who wore it best? I think that Reese Witherspoon  wins this faceoff. She fills out the dress better and her choice of shoes was smart.

Alexis Bledel VS. LeAnn Rimes. Who wore it best? I think that LeAnn Rimes pulled of this look well. She used her accessories wisely, especially the belt; it accentuates her waist line!

How to put this…I don’t know if I liked this movie or not. Pathetic, right? I just sat through almost two hours of Chris Evans looking broody and adorably confused and honestly can’t remember half of what I saw. But I don’t know if that is overly important. Here is what I can tell you:

The Plot: Through some sort of mult-government experiments, the psychic persons are kidnapped and ‘trained’ to be weapons for the government. Of course, the United States (Division) government is never satisfied with normal psychics and try to make the uber-psychic weapon…here is where we meet the main female love interest (Camilla Belle) who is the only one who ever survived and escaped from Division. And she’s a bad ass Pusher. Our main hero is Nick (Chris Evans) is a Mover and a con-artist to boot. He is recruited by a Watcher, Cassie (Dakota Fanning) who convinces him that he needs to help her steal a suitcase containing six million dollars…There is back story to be developed, but honestly it is too confusing to try to type it all out and keep you interested. Sufficing to say, this movie is full of little switchbacks and references to moments you saw in the first few minutes of the film.

The Terms: These are the basics that you will need to watch this movie
-Movers are telekinetic
-Watchers can see the future
-Pushers can make their thoughts your own
-Sniffers can track people by scents
-Screamers can basically go super-sonic with their vocal cords
-Stichers can heal (or inflict horrible pain)
-Wipers can erase memories
-Division is a part of the U.S. government and is full of psychics who track other psychics and take them into custody (or kill them, whichever works better)

There were several times that I had to pause the movie and walk away, and I forgot what I had been watching. Honestly there was one time that I completely FORGOT that I was watching this movie. I didn’t remember until I sat down on the couch and stared at the TV and wondered what was on. So, my rating for this will be a 3 out of 5. The acting was alright, the cinematography was confusing at times, the dialogue was stunted, but the soundtrack was good. Music can save a movie in my opinion, and here is a prime example.

It is said there is no limit to the potential of the human mind. It is also true that there is no limit to the human desire to control and exploit anything with the potential of limitless power, and no limits to how far some would go to gain that power.

There have always been humans with special abilities. Telekinetics, called Movers. Precognitives, called Watchers. People who can exert control over others, called Pushers. People who can sense the location of others, called Sniffers. These are controlled by a sinister government agency known only as Division. One of the most fearsome agents of Division is a pusher named Carver (Hounsou).

A mover named Nick Gant (Evans) has been eking out a miserable existence in Hong Kong, far away from Division. He’d watched his father (Gretsch) murdered by Carver ten years earlier. His powers have never really developed properly. His disastrous attempts to influence dice games have landed him deep in debt to the sorts of people who aren’t about installment plans. On the positive side, Division hasn’t really felt a need to go after him seriously.

However, two Division sniffers (Stoll, Campbell) are waiting for him in his apartment after a run-in with some dice players. They’re looking for Kira (Belle), a pusher who escaped from Division’s medical labs with a syringe filled with a formula meant to increase the abilities of the psychically endowed, but usually winds up killing them. In fact, Kira is the only one who has survived the shot and could be the key to Division’s plans of assembling an army of enhanced psy-soldiers.

After the sniffers leave, Nick is visited by a precocious little watcher named Cassie (Fanning) whose mother remains captive in a Division facility, drugged into a stupor. She informs him that the syringe is the means of bringing down Division and to freeing Cassie’s mom. Oh, and the two of them are doomed to die. However, the good news is that the future is constantly changing and Cassie isn’t always accurate. The bad news is that a Chinese gang led by a much better developed watcher (Lu Li) is also aware of the syringe and what it could mean, and they’re gunning to find Kira and her precious cargo. Carver and Victor (Jackson), a mover far more advanced than Nick, have arrived in Hong Kong to personally supervise the operation.

Nick assembles a team of friends and rogue psychics to try and help save himself, Cassie and Kira from what is increasingly looking like a fatal ending. The odds are overwhelming, but the stakes are high…and time is ticking inexorably towards a conclusion.

This is a nice looking movie, which takes advantage of its Hong Kong milieu nicely. There are kinetic action sequences with plenty of CGI lighting effects and wire work. There is also Fanning, who tends to elevate every movie she’s in.

The problem here is that the script is overly complex and hard to follow. I consider myself a fairly savvy moviegoer and I had problems keeping up with who is able to do what and where they stand. The movie is based on a Wildstorm comic series, for which this material is better suited. The world created by McGuigan and the other filmmakers is over-the-top and convoluted, which works in a four-color medium but not so much on the big screen.

Evans, best known as Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four movies (he must have a thing about comic books), is an attractive enough lead but Nick Gant is essentially Johnny Storm without the libido – or the flames, for that matter. While his powers progress nicely through the course of the film, his character changes wildly without a whole lot of explanation. Either far too much was left on the cutting room floor, or the script was not as well-written as it should have been.

The rest of the cast – many of them veterans of the Hong Kong action movies – range from competent to forgettable. The most surprising of them is Hounsou. He plays the movie’s main heavy with an odd lack of energy or fire. I think he’s going for menacing in a quiet way, sort of like a cobra ready to strike. However, he comes off merely wooden and bored and not nearly an object of fear that he should be.

I tend to be far more forgiving of comic book movies than most because I do love comic books, and I do love movies that are made from them. After 2008 gave us Iron Man, Wanted and The Dark Knight, I was looking for comic book movies to become more of a serious art form. This isn’t the movie that’s going to accomplish that. What McGuigan has crafted, however, is an unnecessarily convoluted but good looking movie that I can recommend with reservations, but looks to fall below the radar of the vast majority of the movie-going audience, and it doesn’t take a watcher to see that coming.

WHY RENT THIS: Exciting action sequences reminiscent of some of the better Hong Kong-made action films. Dakota Fanning is a solid actress who delivers a performance better than this movie deserves. Scenes filmed in and around Hong Kong are fascinating.

WHY RENT SOMETHING ELSE: Convoluted plot that’s hard to follow. Script occasionally ignores it’s own internal logic. Hounsou isn’t nearly menacing enough as a villain and comes off as surprisingly wooden.

FAMILY VALUES: Somewhat violent, although no worse than most comic book movies. There is also some teen drinking here. Otherwise, suitable for most teens and above.

TRIVIAL PURSUITS: In order to deal with the bustle of the Hong Kong locations, director McGuigan decided to film guerilla style, out of peepholes and in the back of vans. In fact, during a scene where Kira is kidnapped at gunpoint with no crew members visibly in sight and no prior advertisement that there would be filming there that day, passers-by didn’t react or move to help.

FINAL RATING: 6/10

TOMORROW: Slumdog Millionaire

Tetapi ternyata ada sebuah organisasi rahasia bernama division yang mencari orang-orang dengan ability special tersebut untuk dijadikan senjata organisasi.

Maka bersatulah kumpulan orang – orang tersebut dalam menghadapi organisasi tersebut. Di antaranya, Cassie Holmes ( Dakota Fanning ) yang bisa meramal masa depan dan Kira Hudson ( Camilla Belle ) yang bisa membaca pikiran.
