“El Caminito del Rey es un paso construido en las paredes del Desfiladero de los Gaitanes en El Chorro, cerca de Álora (Málaga). Se trata de un paso peatonal de 3 km con largos tramos con una anchura de apenas 1 m colgando hasta 100 m de altura sobre el río, en unas paredes prácticamente verticales. Actualmente se halla muy deteriorado, casi todo el recorrido está sin barandilla y hay segmentos que se han derrumbado, quedando sólo la viga de soporte. “

Yo ya me estaba acojonando solo de ver el video, hay que tenerlos bien puestos para hacer ese caminito.

Der Caminito del Rey (auch Königspfad bzw. “King’s little pathway”) in der Provinz Málaga im südlichen Spanien führt durch die enge Schlucht El Chorro. Der teilweise weniger als 1m breite Weg stammt vom Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts und ist heute größtenteils verfallen. Geländer gibt es meist keines mehr und riesige Löcher machen ein Durchkommen fast unmöglich. Mittlerweile wurde der Weg gesperrt, nachdem  1999 und 2000 vier Menschen ums Leben kamen. Eine Restaurierung würde Schätzungen zu folge rund 7 Millionen Euro kosten. (Quelle: Wikipedia)

The municipality of Ardales is situated between the regions of Antequera, Ronda and the Guadalhorce valley. It is a transitional zone and therefore its scenery and history are enriched by some of the characteristics that predominate in those three territories, which in many ways are so different from one another. The visitor who enters this region is presented with a wealth of tourism opportunities, since, except for beaches, one has practically all other tourism resources within a stone’s throw.

Perhaps the most arresting thing about this region is its scenic setting, made up of the reservoirs of the River Guadalhorce, to all intents and purposes, lakes, and the spectacular Desfiladero de los Gaitanes (Los Gaitanes gorge) with its “almost movie like” Caminito del Rey (King’s Little Road), an incredible early twentieth century work that travelled forward in time to the vivid imagination of Spielberg when he designed his awe-inspiring Indiana Jones scenes.

The Desfiladero de los Gaitanes is located in a region in the western part of the Cordillera Bética mountain range. In its entirety the gorge is over 3km long and in certain places is dominated by rock faces over 300m tall and less than 10m wide. It is hollowed out into Jurassic dolomites and limestone. Indeed rock formations from the Miocene era can also be found in the area. The most spectacular morphological feature is the vertical stratification of the limestone as fashioned by the river running through it.

It is considered to be of immense ecological importance. Its walls, which are up to 400 metres high, are home to a variety of plant and animal life, a clear example of adaptation to a vertical way of living.

El Chorro is one of the most famous rock climbing areas in Europe. With more than 500 bolted climbing routes in an area accessible on foot El Chorro is an El Dorado for climbers. Because of its location in the south of Spain rock climbing is possible throughout the winter even though it can sometimes be cold and there may even be snow. The routes are mostly hard climbs, which is why El Chorro attracts rock climbers from the whole world.

The beauty of these landscapes also includes the peculiar tafonis, caves in small sandstone promontories that can be seen between the gorge and reservoirs, and if to this is added, a more than respectable architectural heritage including a Roman bridge, medieval castles and Christian churches and some perfectly documented archaeological sites of the utmost importance, it cannot be denied that the municipality of Ardales has some attractions that place it in an enviable position within and beyond the province of Málaga.

The first human settlement in Ardales occurred during prehistoric times, as was the case in so many villages of Málaga, but in this region there is firm proof of it: the cave paintings discovered in the Cueva de Doña Trinidad Grund (Doña Trinidad Grund Cave) five kilometres from the urban district. Cave paintings more than 20,000 years old are preserved here.

The Roman historian Pliny states in his chronicles that Bastulos and Celt Iberians settled next to the Turón castle in a nucleus of population called, according to Pliny, Turobriga. The Romans, for their part, built the La Peña castle, around which, the beginnings of an urban area took shape. It was only with the Arabic conquest, however, that Ardales truly took on an identity as a village, an event that occurred in the year 716. As of that date it was called Ard-Allah, which means land or garden of God.

The locality acquired great importance in the ninth century when Omar Ben Hafsun established himself in Bobastro, some 4 kilometres from the modern location of Ardales, and founded his own rebel kingdom in order to de-stabilize the Caliphate of Córdoba. During that epoch the castles of Ardales, Turón, Teba and Alora constituted the best defence of Bobastro and its surroundings, and its inhabitants embraced the cause of Omar Ben Hafsun.

No todos los pantanos los hizo Franco, Mucho antes de la Guerra Civil, incluso mucho antes de la Segunda República, en 1901 se construyo el pantano Conde de Guadalorce sobre el río Guadalorce, en el Desfiladero de los Gaitanes cerca de Alora (Málaga).. Para transportar materiales, y para el cuidado y mantenimiento de un canal que comunica el Salto del Chorro y el Salto del Gaitanejo, hubo que habilitar un sendero que borde el desfiladero.

Dada la difícil orografía del terreno, con sólo una longitud de unos cuatro kilometros,, la construcción del sendero, duró cuatro años, fue terminado en 1905. En unos sitios es un sendero excavado en plena roca, en otros, es una pasarela de hormigón sobre los tajos del desfiladero.

Acabado el pantano en 1921, el rey Alfonso XIII hizo la travesía del sendero con motivo de la inauguración de la presa, por ese motivo se le conoce con el nombre del Caminito del Rey. En la actualidad el camino está muy deteriorado por el paso del tiempo y amenaza ruina y no es recomendable transitarlo si no se va equipado con material de escalada y se tiene una buena preparacion montañera. Es un sendero de un metro de ancho, a más de 200 m de altura, casi todo la ruta no tiene barandilla, en algunas partes, la pasarela se han derrumbado completamente y solo queda una viga metálica sobre el abismo y un cable de seguridad en la pared.

Muchas personas han perdido la vida en el intento de travesía en los últimos años. Después que cuatro personas murieran en dos accidentes en 1999 y 2000, las autoridades autonómicas ordenaron el cierre de la entrada, sin embargo, los aventureros, saltan l¡el cierre y todavía siguen atravesando la pasarela. El gobierno regional de Andalucía presupuesto para el 2006 un plan de restauración estimado en siete millones de euro, se mejorará con ello el acceso y la seguridad del Caminito del Rey, pero se perderá la emoción del riego que enseña este vídeo.

Las obras se iniciaron en 1901 y fueron terminadas en 1905. El camino comenzaba junto a las vías del tren de Renfe y recorría el Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, permitiendo el acceso a ambos saltos. Este voladizo es perfectamente visible desde la vía férrea y todo aquel que lo contempla sale admirado de su arriesgada construcción y de los pintorescos paisajes que desde allí se vislumbran. Desde la carretera que une Álora con El Chorro, y a la entrada del desfiladero, se puede ver un pequeño y pintoresco puente que une la pasarela que discurre por ambas paredes. Desde el puente sigue el camino peatonal instalado en la roca vertical que termina en la línea férrea de Córdoba a Málaga.

Precisamente fue su peligrosidad uno de los factores que contribuiría a su fama, numerosos excursionistas se dirigían a El Chorro motivados por recorrer el Caminito (aunque también por su zona de escalada, una de las más importantes de Europa). Esto propició numerosos accidentes (algunos mortales) a lo largo de los años, lo cual acrecentó su leyenda negra.

En 1999 y 2000 sendos accidentes mortales que costaron la vida a cuatro excursionistas indujeron a la Junta de Andalucía a cerrar los accesos al camino, demoliendo su sección inicial. Esta medida no consiguió detener a los excursionistas, que seguían encontrando la manera de acceder a él escalando, y buscando otros accesos donde desafiar la vertiginosa senda.

Construído em Malaga, o Caminito Del Rey é uma trincheira de 3 km de comprimento e 1 m de largura, chegando em alguns pontos para ter uma altura de até 100 metros no rio, em paredes praticamente verticais. Em algumas partes da passagem, existem apenas uma estrutura de ferro para sustentação, pois o concreto se deteriorou com o tempo. Essa passagem foi construída para facilitar a passagem de alguns trabalhadores no passado. O trabalho para a construção da passagem iniciou-se em 1901 e terminou em 1905.Em 1921, o rei Alfonso XIII assistiu à inauguração da barragem.Foi a partir desse momento em que ele começou a chamar a passagem de Caminito del Rey, um nome que continua em vigor até hoje.
Em 1999 e 2000 dois acidentes mortais que causou a morte de quatro escaladores levou a Junta da Andaluzia para fechar o acesso à estrada, demolir a sua entrada. Esta medida não conseguiu impedir que os escaladores de acessar a montanha. Ele também decretou uma multa de 6000 € para o trânsito através de trilhas e formar túneis através dos quais se pode voltar ao Caminito.
