This is going to be the first in a series of one hundred portraits.

The bob-headed girl portrayed here and starting off this little project of mine, was introduced to me by a friend during my stay in Japan this spring.
She works for some German firm that produces audio equipment and we had a blast going drinking together – always having a little mischievous look in her eyes. One of the more interesting people I’ve met there

My love for point & shoot.

The first ever camera I owned was a manual canon point and shoot, received on my 12th birthday. I remember developing my 100ISO films in delight waiting for it to print at the price of $AU10, reminding me of candid moments I had chosen to instill into an image. At the age of 17 I had claimed my brother’s brand new canon 3.2 megapixel digital camera as my own and even despite the fact that I was taught in fine arts to use slr cameras as the proper device for artistic photography i opt for the digital camera instead, taking it everywhere i went. Photoshop played a huge role in “enhancing” my photographs which I later learned a lot of amateur photographers do. I am still however an amateur photographer but don’t take photographs as much as I used to. I have also learnt to take more natural shots to be taken seriously as a promising photographer.

Despite the fact that we have two digital SLR cameras in the house I have not claimed a bond like I did with my brother’s 3.2 canon with either of the cameras, it’s probably because they’re my husbands cameras and I want one to call my own. So as soon as we can the camera I have been waiting for 2 years for, will hopefully be mine soon. The Leica d-lux 4. Surely I should be choosing an SLRs instead right?! I guess SLRs are just not my thing, they’re too big and bulky almost an impersonal feel to it and It has been too many times I see wanna be’s who draw attention to themselves only using these cameras for “the photographer front” effect when obviously they’re only interested to make themselves as the only subject of their photographs. Who am I to talk?! We all go through that phase I guess. And plus I want to be able to take it everywhere I go like when I was in uni, being able to take my little digital camera wherever I went to and take pictures unnoticed. I am excited about the reviews about this camera and the capacity to take seriously low lighting images in film mode almost like the M8 (also a leica) but ridiculously expensive for amateurs. They say this camera has the features of an DSLR but a body of a point and shoot. A perfect combination, I can’t wait till I get one.

Happy Holidays – Two of 8ight

Every year when summer comes round, off to the sea I go.
I don’t care if I do spend a pound, I’m rather rash I know.
See me dressed like all the sports, in my blazer and a pair of shorts.
With my little stick of Blackpool Rock, along the promenade I stroll.
It may be sticky but I never complain, it’s nice to have a nibble at it now and again
Every day wherever I stray the kids all round me flock.

One afternoon the band conductor up on his stand
Somehow lost his baton – it flew out of his hand
So I jumped in his place and then conducted the band
With my little stick of Blackpool Rock

With my little stick of Blackpool Rock, along the promenade I stroll,
In my pocket it got stuck I could tell ‘Cos when I pulled it out I pulled my shirt off as well
Every day wherever I stray the kids all round me flock.

A girl while bathing clung to me, my wits had to use
She cried, “I’m drowning, and to save me, you won’t refuse”
I said, “Well if you’re drowning then I don’t want to lose
My little stick of Blackpool Rock.”

In the ballroom I went dancing each night
No wonder every girl that danced with me, stuck to me tight

Every day wherever I stray the kids all round me flock.
A fellow took my photograph it cost one and three.
I said when it was done, “Is that supposed to be me?”
“You’ve properly mucked it up the only thing I can see is
My little stick of Blackpool Rock.”
