Wooooo, Friday! Hope you all are ready for the last day of the week and the weekend ahead! I have to

Wooooo, Friday! Hope you all are ready for the last day of the week and the weekend ahead! I have tons to do, but I’m looking forward to it. For the first time, you can expect a couple of weekend posts from me. And the big news is that I have a huge announcement on Monday, which I am SO EXCITED AND I JUST CAN’T HIDE IT about. SO excited! Let’s just say that it’s the fulfilment of a little dream of mine, but I won’t say any more – my lips are sealed!

That’s Monday, but there’s so much awesome on the blog today – come back later for a fab guest post and a new supplier you should definitely know about!

For now, let’s talk Cape Town, because last week Capetonians and lovers of CT alike were all delighted to hear that the Mother City had been named World Design Capital for 2014. I mean, WE know Cape Town is awesome. But we love it when the rest of the world recognises it too. Plus, I’m super proud that South Africa will have another chance to show the world some of our homegrown magic, the way we did with the football world cup.

This week, SA Weddings got in touch about this prestigious city award. What, they asked, does this mean for the wedding industry in Cape Town and South Africa in general?

After the 2010 Fifa World Cup, people, more importantly, tourists, sat upright when hearing Cape Town’s name and there’s no doubt this has improved tourism statistics for South Africa, but will this announcement do the same for the wedding industry? SAWeddings.co.za ran a poll on our Facebook page posting this exact question: “Do you think more international brides-to-be will opt to get married in Cape Town after this announcement?” The answer: “ABSOLUTELY – Who doesn’t love Cape Town” came out victorious.

I hope the poll is right – encouraging more people to get married in South Africa and helping them when they do is just my mission in creating this website. And of course, the more tourism money flowing into our country, the better things will be for our economy. One of the main aims of the World Design Capital organisation is for social and economic issues in the host cities to be highlighted or solved using great design – wouldn’t it be amazing if wedding design were a part of that sense of regeneration as well?

I’d be interested to hear what you think – and remember to head over to SA Weddings to see lots of options for South African venues and other wedding services!

And, if you need any more encouragement, here’s our feature on Ten Reasons to Get Married in the Western Cape!
