After eating some pizza with my mom and dropping her off at the local Food City. I came home for a bit to put the leftovers up and freshen up to head back out to hang with friends. I made my way outside excited for a night of fun when I heard what sounded like a blowout but never heard the sounds of rubber slapping around. I walked down the backyard from which I could see the interstate; I saw a car sitting in the middle of the northbound lane facing oncoming traffic. Immediately, I ran back to my car to grab the Maglite while pulling my iPhone out to dial 911. While dialing, I saw an eighteen-wheeler veer to miss the stationary car, with sparks flying from underneath its trailer as it clipped the car. Waiting on somebody to answer the phone, a pickup slammed into the car head on. As soon as the dispatcher picked up, I told him the location and what had happened. All of a sudden a SUV slammed into the car while other cars veered left and right to miss the wreck. I was transferred to State Police and told them the same information I told dispatch, emphasizing they hurry before more cars enter the pile up.

Mark, my uncle, walked down to see what was happening, he thought it was a blowout but knew something was up as well. We stood there watching from afar, basically powerless to do anything when we heard the most blood curdling scream. Not know if it was from a victim in pain, a bystander screaming or somebodies last moments on this earth. We watched as emergency responders started to pour in from Chilhowie, Saltville and Glade Spring to help with the crash. My brother and his girlfriend showed up, they heard that Med flight and Wings was being called in to airlift victims to the hospital. We watched as the helicopter circled around over head then came in to land on the interstate. It landed on the northbound side followed soon by the second helicopter to airlift the victims. As I was getting ready to leave myself to finally meet my friends, I stood and watched the helicopters take off and as I watched it lift up and slowly move over the tree tops. I whispered to myself “God, let them be okay.”

Here is a video of the accident scene.

Update: Both occupants that were airlifted to the hospital were from the pickup that first struck the unoccupied car. The boy fractured both his legs and is in stable condition, his girlfriend is in stable condition as well but with a broken wrist and face cut up pretty well.

Also, if it was not for one of the truck drivers quick reaction to veer away from the truck, state police believe the impact would have killed the two teens in the pickup. ( I could not see the pickup clearly, it was behind a stopped eighteen wheeler. )

Today’s weight: 115.3 lbs.

I don’t often write about work in here, but I might as well seeing it can be very stressful and writing about it might help me ease some of the stress.

We found out today that another one of our co-workers at work has been basically fired from her position in a classroom after 9 years of teaching. She’s been placed as in charge of cleaning the rooms now instead of being in the classroom. Her words, “It’ll be less stressful.”

Let me explain first off: I work in childcare facility. I work with 3 to 4 year old’s, otherwise known as the Moonbeam class. I’ve been at this place of employment for almost three years after my March 2010 car accident. I was hired in August 2010. It was my first job back after losing my job after the March 2010 car accident. I started off as an afternoon sub, but after being called into work multiple times a week for morning AND afternoon, I asked if I could work full time. Then I was place full time in the infant room, Precious Moments. After that I was then put into the Moonbeam’s classroom as the infant room was raising my own stress level to the max.

I enjoy working there and having a job, but seriously, after an 8 hour shift, you have had enough, especially when you have been dealing with 16 or more 3 to 4 year old’s on your own most of the day. During the morning hours I have another teacher with me. She helps out a lot and I also help her, but in the afternoon, it’s just me.

Well at our end of the hallway, we have Moonbeams, Trailblazers and Navigator’s Classrooms. Moonbeams is the youngest. The other two classrooms are Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten. Well, one of the Trailblazers teachers were told her last day teaching would be today. She was being told she could stay on to help clean the facility from 8 – 5 weekdays. She has been at this job for 9 years. And today was her last day in a classroom. The other employees at our end of the hallway know she knows more like WHY she was told she has to now clean instead of teach, but she wouldn’t go in depth. We all know that she would take extremely long lunches, and get “lost” on her way to the bathroom, and make multiple trips to and from places while managing to talk to everyone on her way to and from. She spent more time talking to others then actually doing her job, and we can only speculate this is what got her in her predicament. Another thing she would be famous for doing is being absent A LOT. She’s been known to be sick a lot, like a week out of each month she’s been gone. Literally. I know I get sick an awful lot but she misses more days a month then I do. We don’t know if the co-teacher she works with said something, or someone else said something, but it’s weird. Now everyone is on their toes and wondering who’s next. And to be a teacher for 9 years and then be told you need to clean the facility instead???? We think there’s something else going on.

In a way this is good because everyone is on their toes and watching what they are doing. But it’s also bad because we never know who’s next.

This woman who got “fired” has never said or done anything wrong with the children. She’s very patient. So we just don’t know.

It’s raised my stress level pretty high because I have had a surgery and now a second one coming up with a year of each other since working at this facility. I could so easily be canned for the time I have to take off but I always, ALWAYS have a note about why I am off, especially if I see a doctor. If I stay home because I have a flu bug or whatever, that’s fine, but if I’m out for any appointments, then I make sure to have a note. I feel bad though. I always feel bad when I get sick and then when I miss work. So what does my boss and director think when I have this upcoming surgery in another month? Will I be canned because I have had so many surgeries and taken time off?? These things make me so nervous. I have health benefits thru my work and rely heavily on that.

It just makes me really nervous.

Another day in 2013, another day of Lindsay Lohan car wreckage. No, no…she didn’t get into another car crash…she’s just negotiating a deal with THAT other car wreck (or twenty). Take a look at this shit:

I usually can’t be bothered with specifics because I prefer to make grand generalizations based off of what I see. I know, it’s a fault of mine. I see a therapist for that on the regular. BUT.

I happened to peruse TMZ this morning to kill time (not kidnap people and drop cocaine in the police station in Santa Monica…allegedly), and I happened upon this story. She reeked of booze and, summoning her intellect, put the bottle of booze next to her car when pulled over. AND THEY DIDN’T EVEN CARE!

I’ve seen my fair share of DUIs, and that shit would never fly in Dallas or LA with me. Can you imagine putting a bottle of booze right next to your car when pulled over for a DUI? As I’ve said before: My parents raised me incorrectly. A 9-year old gets nominated for a fucking Best Actress Oscar, Drew Barrymore was getting into clubs and rehab at 13, and I was attending school like a normal kid. I wish my parents would have created a ‘New Normal’ for me at age 5 and had me dancing on tables (or a pole, or on a pole as I’m often doing). That’s some bullshit!

Speaking of shit, she looks like it. Happy Monday!

Car insurance policies will cover all permissive users of your car. It’s arguable that the driver who wrecked it did have your permission, indirectly. As they say, possession is 9/10ths of the law. Once you gave permission and possession to the first person, that gave them the right to let someone else drive the car unless you specifically told them you didn’t want anyone else to drive it.

I am always struck by the constant drumbeat of the legislature for the tightening of laws regulating

I am always struck by the constant drumbeat of the legislature for the tightening of laws regulating drinking and driving in Oklahoma. It is easy to get the impression that the State Legislature has nothing to do but to increase the punishment for drinking alcohol and then driving in a car. I don’t want to be labeled as an anarchist, however, there appears to be little correlation between the severity of the DUI laws and the dramatic reduction of alcohol related auto accidents resulting in death.

After practicing in the field of DUI Defense for over 30 years it has come to my attention the vast amount of damage occasioned by people who drink and drive. I cannot say that drinking causes accidents, however, a lot of drinkers who drive get involved in accidents. The present state of the law is a result of an illogical construct: i.e. that severe penalties for drinking and driving create a safer environment for non drinking drivers. For example, in statistics between 1995 and 2008 see the abbreviated table below. The statistics were obtained from the Center for Disease Control and figures published by the FBI Bureau of Statistics.

1995:

21,219 arrested in Oklahoma for drunk driving / DUI (Driving under the Influence)

192 fatal accidents in Oklahoma where at least one driver had a BAC of 0.08% or above

1998:

Official statistics for people people arrested for drunk driving / DUI (Driving under the Influence) in Oklahoma not yet known

29 people were killed in Oklahoma in accidents where at least one driver had a BAC between 0.01% and 0.07%

274 total deaths caused in Oklahoma where at least one driver had a BAC of 0.01% or above

I purposely skipped the statistics between 1998 and 2008 because they were significantly similar. Though the DUI laws increased in severity, fines got higher, court costs rose dramatically and rehabilitation requirements by the State of Oklahoma became draconian.

Thus, it seems that harsher penalties for DUI, higher mandatory sentences, greater fines, more law enforcement, do not translate into significantly fewer traffic accidents, deaths or arrests for DUI in Oklahoma. Car wrecks are a risk of driving, here is a URL of auto wrecks in Europe that may or may not have a DUI component, you decide.

Weight today: 114.6 lbs.
My weight has been ranging anywhere between 110.6 to 116.9 lbs. since I last updated.

So I haven’t updated for a couple of weeks. I have since ended antibiotics for bronchitis, but I still have a cough and the sneezes as well.

I saw my psychiatrist two weeks ago Wednesday and he wanted to follow up with me from when I started taking Saphris. I stopped taking the Abilify and the Seroquel for bi-polar disorder and just started taking Saphris. I’m doing well on the new drug so we are staying on it. I’m not as manic as before by far. I see the psychiatrist next month, April 20th, I believe.

Then this past week, Wednesday, I saw my orthopedic doctor for my ankle. I have been in more pain these past few weeks leading up to this past orthopedic appointment. He has been with me since my car wreck on March 21st, 2010. He told me this past week that my pain is probably from the hardware (4 pins) and that we could try taking them out and seeing if my pain lessens. I’ve been living with pain in my right ankle since March of 2010 when I had the car wreck that injured it in the first place (you can read more of my car accident in my pages section). So it’s going on almost three years of straight pain. So the orthopedic surgeon suggested surgery at the end of March, beginning of April. He will go in and remove all the hardware. It’ll take a good 6 to 8 weeks of total recovery with me bearing weigh on it after about two weeks. I will be on crutches to start with for two to three weeks, and then get the stitches removed and then be in a big black boot for another few weeks. Hopefully this third surgery will be my last and final one. He said all the fusions look complete. I’ve been in kind of a daze with this final surgery. It’s just never ending. Not a day goes by that I don’t recall the accident on some level. Either a smell will trigger it, the pain in my foot will trigger it, or just getting into a car will trigger the memories of my car accident. Seriously, not a day goes by. Mainly it’s the pain in my foot that triggers the memories of the wreck. I’m just so tired of it. The pain, the memories…all of it. And now I will be laid up for a couple of weeks and out of work yet again for surgery….it just seriously never ends. Since my husband is in a wheelchair, I have to help him with a lot of physical things for him to exist to a day to day basis. But with me laid up and on crutches, that severely limits my ability to help him. For the past two surgeries I have counted on my husband’s Mom, Joan, to help us out. We tried to rely on my own Mom, but that was a bust and she never helped with anything to be honest with you. I don’t feel like calling her up and asking her to help out a third time seeing she has helped so many times before. So my husband is going to call his Dad and see if he can come down from South Carolina and stay with us a few weeks to help out. This time I will make sure my own mother helps out because she hasn’t done much to help at all. I just really hate relying on people.

My eating disorder habits and rituals have been pretty low key recently. I haven’t been binging and purging or just purging for the sake of it recently at all. Probably why my weight hasn’t dropped much at all as well. I still have eating disordered thoughts but I’m not really acting on them much. So I guess that’s a good thing. The bad thing is, when I’m back on crutches, I’m bound to gain weight again. I ALWAYS do. It frustrates me how fast I gain it back. We’ll see how it all goes though.

OGDEN, Utah — Two people were injured when an SUV lost control and slid into a Utah Highway Patrol vehicle; this is the 16th UHP vehicle to be hit in 2013.

Two UHP troopers were stopped to investigate a crash and provide traffic control near mile marker 344 in Ogden on Saturday at about 12:45 p.m. The driver of a Ford Escape, a 79-year-old male from Canada, lost control of his vehicle and slid into the patrol car, according to a press release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The trooper saw the Escape coming, and he put his vehicle in drive to avoid a collision but was hit. The Escape rolled on its side. The driver of the Escape was transported to a hospital in critical condition with a head injury. The trooper was taken to a hospital with minor injuries but has been released. There were no other injuries.

The highway patrol said they are averaging two troopers hit each week, and they ask drivers to slow down and use caution when they see accidents or are driving in winter conditions.

Sorry I have not posted in almost a week, it has just been quite a week. My husband took vacation days for tuesday through thursday to spend time with our son and his family before they headed toward the west coast on thier move. Wed we were heading down to help with anything needed while the moving truck was loaded . On our way, it was rainy and wet and we ended up in an accident. Brand new car, never made a payment, and now it looks like it will be totaled.

My amazing husband, with very little time to react as we came around a curve ,managed to avoid this accident by about five feet !! We were so thrilled he stopped in plenty of time, just to be hit in the back by someone who was not as lucky !!!

our car was untouched in front and our damage was from a full size pick up that swerved and missed us, but his trailer swung around and wacked our car hard and did all the damage. Broke our axel and his. He managed to get around the line of cars and pulled up on the side, you cannot see him in the pictures he is behind the fire truck in the one picture. David walked up and talked to him and he was not happy to find out we were not part of that big accident, that David had stopped with plenty of room to spare , and it made it a seperate accident.

It is so sad because from the other side, you cannot tell the car was hurt at all. But the damaage is so extensive they are all but certain right now it is a total loss. Never even paid a payment on this car. Had it three weeks. The police officers told my husband, hey, no worries, you did what you were supposed to do, you stopped, he did not do what he was supposed to do. He tried, but the wet roads and swerving fast all contributed. He came out on the same blind turn we had but he had less room to move, my hubby stopped five feet behind the red car and then the length of our car just did not give him enough room. My husband said he had a car on either side of him when it happened and could not move so just hit the brake as hard as he could and that wonderful car stopped, fast. I recommend Passat by VW to anyone. That car did what it was supposed to do and kept us safe. The back door still opened and had we had kids in back that day, they would have been shaken up a bit, but fine. The side air bag came down on impact all the way down the side of the car. We are impressed. We will not replace it imediately, but when we do, it will be another Passat. We had gotten a great deal on a service car the dealer had released for sale, they had just released all the 2012 service cars and they were a great deal with low milage. We will probably tell our salesman when they do the same thing with the 2013s call us and we will get in then and get a new car. We saved so much by getting a certified used, but only owned by the dealer so it was not really a used car. So, it might be a while until we replace it, but we will have a new Passat one day in the next year. We could go right out and replace it, but we would not get the deal we had. So, we will just be patient and see if we can get another deal like that !! I am not sure we will ever buy anything else. We are so relieved to just be a bit achy and sore, but alive and well.

so, I have not been here for a few days but next week I will be back on track. I am still exhausted and we had a lot of stuff to deal with as anyone who has been in an accident knows.

So, no beading today, but I have some fun projects to share next week, I hope everyone has a great weekend !! Thanks for stopping by !!

[ooyala code="doOWFqOTpaTo9BHGCgdFoMeYy6DpcDY8"]

NASELLE, Wash. (KPTV) – A 4-year-old girl is being credited with saving her younger sister’s life after a wreck that killed their mother Wednesday.

The children were left stranded on the side of a highway for hours until two passing fisherman happened to spot something in the trees along the road.

Pictures from Washington State Patrol show the crash, which was barely visible from the road.

However, the two fisherman stopped on a lark to investigate some missing bark on a tree.

That’s when Kraai McClure discovered the car wreck with Jessica Rath’s body inside. Then, he found 4-year-old Arianna Rath and 2-year-old Lylah Huff were discovered nearby, hunkered down in some brush.

“She saved her sister,” Kraai McClure told the Associated Press. “She was sharp enough. I don’t know how she did it or anything else, but something was watching over those little girls.”

Bert Haven with the Naselle Volunteer Fire Department was among the first responders.

“The 4-year old was telling us the story she had said that she actually got the 2-year-old out of the car,” Haven said. “So as far as we know the 4-year-old got the 2-year-old out of the car and had a blanket of something that she covered them both.”

Medics took both girls for treatment, first to Astoria and then they were airlifted to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

“Well we could tell the 2-year-old was… Let’s say sick and needed to be out of there right away,” Haven said.

The Washington State Patrol said the family was on the way to Portland to pick up Jessica’s husband, Keaton Huff, who is a fisherman.

Huff had pleaded for help on Facebook only to have his worst fears confirmed.

“It looked like a straight line to the wreck, hit the tree, didn’t look like she may have swerved or anything like that,” Haven said.

Washington State Patrol said Rath likely fell asleep behind the wheel — possibly around midnight — some eight hours before her daughters were discovered and rescued.

When I am driving, I like to impart my vast array of worldly knowledge upon my children. I give them advice such as “No one talks when the (edited) song Regulators is on” and “We always, ALWAYS tell Mommy that she is pretty”.

Yesterday, I attempted to share some practical, real world advice, “Guys, see this car next to us? They are not being safe. They are stopped on train tracks. NEVER STOP ON TRAIN TRACKS.” I feel like maybe we talk in a lot of shouty caps at our house.

Dubya had the audacity to question me: Why?

Me: Well Dubya, when it is train vs. car, the train will win every time.

Then Moo chimes in: Can we walk in da woad? (This is where everyone needs to stop and wonder exactly what is going on in that messed up little world of hers.)

Me: No, goose. If it is car vs. Moo, the car will win every time.

Dubya: But we all know what happens when it is Mommy vs. tree.

Suddenly, I am stricken. A trickle of cold sweat appears upon my brow. What exactly is happening here? Is he calling me out?

Outwardly, I am calm. I show no weakness as I ask: What do you mean, Dubya?

Dubya: Well there was that time that Em-Uh-Lee left you hanging in a tree to die. FOR HOURS.

Me: Oh well yeah, that was awful. But I am still alive, therefore I win.

Dubya: What about that time you hit that tree in your car??

Me:……………………………………

At this point, I realize that I have lost this game. When your unlicensed seven year old starts pointing out your inability to drive without hitting stationary objects in your yard, it might just be time to change the subject.

If you are involved in a car accident, here’s a list of things to do: Get medical assistance immedia

If you are involved in a car accident, here’s a list of things to do:

Get medical assistance immediately for anyone who needs medical assistance.

Call the police to report the accident and to have an accident report created.

Be sure to protect your legal rights by following these steps:

Do not admit fault. Regardless of what has happened, there may be factors in place you do not know about. The other party may have been speeding. Some malfunction may have occurred in one of the vehicles. You will likely be frazzled or jittery from the accident. However, admissions on your part at the scene may be used against you later.

Verify the accuracy of the police report.

Get names, addresses, and insurance from everyone involved in the accident and contact information from any witnesses that may be at the scene.

Take photos of the accident scene. In this digital age where virtually all cell phones have cameras, there is no excuse to not document the position of the vehicles, the damage to the vehicles, the lighting conditions, weather conditions, and any other potentially important items.

Report the accident to your insurance company, but do not admit fault.

Immediately seek medical attention and tell your doctor the nature and extent of your pain and injury, and how the injury occurred.

Do not discuss the accident or your injuries with anyone, with the exception of your doctor and your attorney.

Do not consent to a recorded statement or sign any document without first reviewing it with your attorney. Innocent statements made by you attempting to assist an insurance adjuster can easily be misinterpreted and used to deny or minimize your recovery.

You should also contact an attorney as soon as possible after the accident. Delay may result in lost or damaged evidence, missing witnesses, or failure to meet legal deadlines for filing lawsuits.

The attorneys at Clark Mason Attorneys have extensive experience handling personal injury cases. We will handle your case aggressively and effectively.

If you need a personal injury lawyer for your injury case, call or email us. Our consultations are free. Call (501) 219-0077 or 1 (800) 516-2766 to speak with an attorney or email inquiries@clarkmason.com or go to http://www.clarkmason.com/contact-us/ to submit information.

Tonight’s photos came from Eugene’s NPR-KLCC Microbrew Fest that was held at the Lane County Fairgrounds.

I am not a beer drinker; alcohol for the most part causes me to get cherry red and sleepy but my friend Kendra had free tickets and my other friend Brooke was volunteering for a good cause (public radio). So I figured what the heck, at the least there would be good people watching (which there was). Not to mention a great dinner at Sabai Cafe & Bar beforehand (I think this is in my top 5 favorite places to eat), after an almost car wreck. I told Kendra I never thought a Camaro would save my life, but I have to say the bleepity bleep mini van that pulled a left turn in front of her was about 1 inch away from the front of her car. Let’s just say thank goodness her brakes were working. Back to the brew fest. So tonight I tried three different ciders. I think my favorite was called Granny Smith.

I think the best photo op of the night was the green Rogue bus. They opened it up so people could sit on it too. And the place was crowded. Well it’s time to call it a night. Sweet dreams & thanks for stopping by!

SALT LAKE COUNTY — A Utah Highway Patrol Trooper was stopped to investigate a crash on I-80 Saturday night when his vehicle was struck by a vehicle that lost control in the slick and snowy conditions.

Sgt. Nathan Croft was dispatched to a wreck on I-80 near mile marker 106 around 6 p.m. on Saturday, where an SUV traveling too fast for the winter weather lost control and crashed into the barrier. After Croft arrived and left his vehicle to investigate, a second vehicle lost control and slid into the patrol car.

Croft saw the vehicle sliding out of control and was able to move clear. He was not hit or injured.
