After last week’s realization that I owned a sole cardigan, I requested pattern suggestions fr

After last week’s realization that I owned a sole cardigan, I requested pattern suggestions from the Me-Made-May flickr pool. Then I remembered I already had one, Butterick 5398. I made it once in 2011 but it had since fallen out of favor. I wore it a lot when I first made it and then grew displeased with the basic cotton jersey I used. This time, I branched out into a lightweight rayon knit. It was really squirrely to sew with, but I think it looks decent!

Unfurled! You can see the texture of the fabric here.

I zig-zag stitched the seams and then trimmed and overlocked them. Basically, I’m a slow, manual serger.

The bottom and front hems are rolled and the sleeves are finished with folded bands. I strongly prefer finishing knits with bands since I don’t have a serger/coverstitch machine.

I added 3″ length to the bottom hem and took in the side seams dramatically (3/4″ from the sleeve graded to 2″ at the armpits, then 2 3/4″ at the bottom). This is after cutting the XS size (I’m pretty solidly a Medium). This pattern is huge! It’s better than too small, but it’s still an irritating waste of fabric.

This piece is really a child of Me-Made-May and the Seamless Pledge. Trying to wear my self-made sleeveless shirts for MMM revealed my lack of cardigans, and the Seamless Pledge prevented me from purchasing any. (I rarely have luck thrifting them, which would by me go-to solution.) I wouldn’t mind making another in a linen or cotton sweater knit, which seem a bit hard to find! But having doubled my cardigans this week, I’m not in a hurry.

Have you located any holes in your wardrobe recently?

I’ve never made many baby items before, I wanted to be able to know the baby that would receive them. When one of my cousins told me that she was pregnant, I got super excited because now I could make all the baby clothes I wanted! I’d already given her a baby blanket for her birthday last year while she was still trying. To be fair I could always just make the clothes and keep them in a box until someone needed them.

Now, I don’t actually know that my cousin is having a girl yet or not. Pink just happened to be the color that caught my eye and I decided to go for it.

EXCLUSIVE TMZ INTERVIEW: EX-”CUBIE LIFE” STAR HURLS SHOCKING ALLEGATIONS, HURTS CREATOR

EXCLUSIVE TMZ INTERVIEW: EX-”CUBIE LIFE” STAR HURLS SHOCKING ALLEGATIONS, HURTS CREATOR’S FEELINGS

JANE LEW, W. VA (May 17, 2013) – Tens of Cubie Life fans have been sacrificing sleep, food, and even sex as they await an explanation on the sudden departure of Tiffany from their favorite instant message-based, reality comic series. Tiffany – a transgendered Customer Service Representative featured in the series – hasn’t been seen in a Cubie Life strip since April 17, when “L’Enfant Grand” (#019) was published. In that comic, everything appeared to be “hunky-dory,” as a really annoying person might say.

“I was used by Cubie Life and then tossed aside like an aging tranny…which, ironically, is exactly what I am,” said Tiffany, who was born Ted but abandoned that name as “she” began transitioning into a woman a few years back. “That douchebag insists I left on my own accord, but a sorta-girl can only take so much before she unsuccessfully attempts a Five-Hour Energy overdose, fails miserably, then goes to plan B…which is hauling her extremely nice ass outta town.”

The “douchebag” referenced by Tiffany is Jason Koz, the dashingly handsome Creator/Founder/Writer/Marketer/Producer/Publisher of Cubie Life. When asked for his reaction to Tiffany’s departure, Koz said: “I’m hurt – by Tiffany’s allegations, by her hateful comments, by her scathing disapproval of certain cardigan sweater sets that I choose to wear on chilly days.” Koz gazed longingly into this reporter’s eyes, unbuttoned the top of his cardigan, and continued: “She comes across as pleasant and relatively normal in my award-worthy comic, but trust me, nothing could be further from the truth.”

Tiffany sat down with us in her awful, awful hometown of Jane Lew, W. Va., and presented her side of the story. But be forewarned: what follows is one person’s raw, emotional, and curiously erotic account of what allegedly happened behind the scenes of the most beloved comic ever known to humankind. We hope that you and all seven other Cubie Life fans (it’s a cult-like thing at this stage, OK?) enjoy.

Terry Moore-Zoggers: You have something on your face. Not saying it’s a booger, though it is directly under your nostril.

Tiffany: Eww, really? [Plucks booger from face and flicks it away; lands on cat.] Thanks.

TMZ: Sure, that’s why I’m here. Well, for that, and to break the most important news story of the decade. So let’s get on with it. Everything seemed to be hunky-dory last time we saw you on Cubie Life. What happened?

Tiffany: The truth happened. You can quote that.

TMZ: Everything’s being quoted. This is an interview.

Tiffany: Perfect. Look, let’s cut the small talk, Ter: Bottom line is, I was sick of being used for the sole purpose of comic relief.

TMZ: Isn’t that something to expect from a comic?

Tiffany: NO, GODDAMNIT! [Breaks down and sobs; quickly texts somebody named "Mr. Jingles" from her phone; resumes sobbing; blows nose; checks mirror; checks online bank account; continues speaking.] Every damn thing on Cubie Life revolves around that Neanderthal Angelo…or Jack and Paige and their WTF-is-this “relationship.” Hell, even Angela [Angelo's boss whom he's allegedly banging] gets featured on the regular! I’m a good person more often than not, and I deserve equal treatment.

TMZ: Interesting you say that, because I did a little number-crunching. Turns out six of the 27 comics published to date include you as one of the participants, and an additional six either mentioned or included you as a focal point of the conversation. That’s a solid 44% of all Cubie Life comics thus far. Hardly obscurity, wouldn’t you say?

Tiffany: No.

TMZ: Well, you’re wrong. Moving on… How did you break the news of your resignation to that intriguing Jason Koz?

Tiffany: First and most importantly, the only intriguing thing about him is how he can ruin careers without a second thought. And I didn’t say a word to him. I just stopped showing up for work. Customer Service isn’t something you do for a real career anyway. Everyone in it is either severely dumb or so addicted to drugs they have no other choice. I was moving on regardless. But TIFFANY decided to take control, rather than relinquishing it as usual to Koz.

TMZ: Suddenly, I’m extremely bored, so this needs to wrap the @$#% up. Thanks for your time. Oh, I guess I should ask one more question: What’s next for you?

Tiffany: So much amazing stuff is on the horizon, now that I’m free from the Cubie Life chains. Vivid Video [the pornography production company] approached me about a potential “project.” I’m currently talking to a certain Kabul-based website about an online reality series based on my life. Things are happening, dreams are coming true, and I have nobody to thank but myself.

TMZ: And that saint of a guy, Jason Koz.

Tiffany: Interview OVER.

Almost exactly one year ago, I began working in my very first grown-up office job. Having only ever

Almost exactly one year ago, I began working in my very first grown-up office job. Having only ever worked retail there was a lot I was nervous about. Everything was new. Would I make friends? Can I do the work? What will I wear? At first I had a rotation of dresses and I wore the same flats everyday. Here and there I would spice it up with heels, but basically it was all the same. Then there were the casual fridays. I had no idea what I was doing. There are lots of people here that can wear jeans everyday, but I am not one of them. When the opportunity to get casual arose I leapt on it something fierce. Those days were bad. I went too casual. Yoga pants! Hoodies! The humanity!

It’s important to note that no one said anything to me about my lack of propriety in this department. I just slowly started noticing how the other people in the office were dressing on Fridays. I was missing the mark. So I did what any girl looking for a broad idea of what a casual Friday outfit should look like would. Pinterest. That’s when I discovered the glory of jeans + flats. Here is an example outfit breakdown.

Obviously Jeans + Flats.

Then you need a cute tank/shirt/blouse. Nothing too revealing. Add some whimsy if you want. I did.

Top all that with a blazer or if you are like me and own a million cardigans you can go that route too.

Overall Impression: Thank goodness I wised up and realized I was dressing like a bum to work. This is basically the look I go with when I don’t want to look like I just rolled out of bed for an 8am McDonald’s run.

I really wanted to stay in pajamas today, but I decided to be a decent human being and get dressed. I am stuck inside writing a school paper today, but I don’t mind because it’s cold and rainy outside–it’s perfect day to curl up with hot tea and my school books! Because it’s not quite summertime here in Germany, I feel like I can get away with wearing a long-sleeve dark maroon shirt and sweater cardigan. I am also wearing my new blue cobalt Stella & Dot necklace which when I bought it I was hoping it would be a necklace I could wear everyday and that it would go with everything–and it DOES! Very happy with that purchase. Since I was putting in the effort to get dressed today, I also decided to try a new eye makeup look using a champagne eyeshadow as my base, a copper shade by MAC, and a soft brown shadow to contour my eyelids. All in all, it took me ALOT longer to get ready this morning than I had anticipated, but I feel good! My husband would say that I was trying to do anything but my homework–I would say he might be right, who wants to write a 15-page paper anyways??

Gloomy day:

A lot of women avoid wearing stripes. Very few women will actually wear a whole look comprised of nothing but the above. No worries, as we are going to show you how below:

The key to wearing stripes is knowing your body shape. If you are bigger on top, then wear your stripes on the bottom half of your body. If you are bigger on the bottom, then wear stripes on the upper half of your body. Another key element is the size of the stripes. Larger stripes will make you look larger, it is a known fact. If you are really self-concious about giving stripes a chance, try some thin stripes for a minimal effect, like pinstripes on a pair of pants.

In the look above stripes are seen on both halves of the model’s body. She is wearing the bolder look on top because that is the smaller half of her body. The bold stripes of the Runway cardgian and its yellow accents draw the eyes away from her bottom half, where she is a wearing a Runway skirt with minimal stripes of varying angles at her hips to avoid making them look wider.

The perfect way to accessorize with a pattern heavy look like this is with minimal accessories. Throw on some strappy sandals, sunglasses, and a Betty Carre ring set and you are good to go.

Would you try stripes on stripes? Tell us below!

I love the comfort of a long dress – there’s no worrying about showing off more than you want to! This dress is also not quite a maxi either, so I don’t have to worry about that awkwardness of the hem being slightly too short (#tallgirlproblems).

This past Sunday a huge family lunch was planned for Mother’s Day, I decided to pair this gorgeous dress I bought from Mr Price recently with a floral jumpsuit. As the khaki/camo trend is everywhere lately I definitely wanted to go the opposite route, less militant and combat, and more feminine. I love the contrast of the bold colour paired with something softer which also accentuates the cut nicely, also I’ve come up with many ways to style this dress so I know I’ll be getting lots of use out of it.

Since it was fun, family gathering I went make-up free, except for some of my favourite lipstick of course. It was a lovely day spent eating, joking around and trying to get my niece and cousins to take these pictures for me. Initially they were rather hesitant, but after spotting my camera (a new toy), they were happy to snap away even shouting -I want to take one! I in turn obviously snapped some of them as well and enjoyed their model poses.

I’m glad that I decided to start blogging again, I really appreciate all the feedback – so thank you to my lovely readers, the websites that are re-posting my articles and the ladies on FB for re-posting my outfits

Lastly, I’m having trouble with the re-sizing of images and deciding what size looks best, if you have any tips please share!

Cassie:

Time travel. It’s a situation I’ve contemplated far too often. As a pre-teen, I read a fair amount of books involving the subject, and planned (too many) hypothetical outfits for various eras and epochs.

I also decided I didn’t care if it would disrupt the space-time continuum, I’d totally introduce past time periods to rock n’ roll music before it was even a real thing. Eighteenth century France would be all about the Beatles, okay?! You say you want a revolution…

But I digress. If I’m going to Marty McFly myself and get stuck in the past, I’m not going to be prepared for it. By this logic, I’ll be wearing something from my everyday repertoire when I accidentally land in early 20th century England.

Since I’m now picturing myself ending up outside of Downton Abbey in skinny jeans and a sleeveless top, that’s exactly what I’ve put together (I don’t care if its fictional, I guess I’ve now also dimension-hopped into the world of Downton). This Prabal Gurung top is gorgeous and I would totally own it if there was a cheaper version in his Target collection…no sleeves and a v-neck in 1912? The Dowager Countess would certainly give me the stink-eye. Lady Sybil, however, would have my back. Carson would faint.

Because I think I’m hilarious with my history jokes (reality: I’m not), I love these Marc Jacobs zipper earrings (…zippers didn’t become a fashion staple until the late 1930s). If I’m going to be a walking anachronism, I’m going for the gold!

There’s a very good chance I’ll be wearing black flats for this joyride in the Delorean. To be really true to life, I’ll also have a cardigan nearby and a scrunchie on my wrist (for impromptu ponytails).

And that right there will be the best invention I bring to the past. Behold, instant up-do! No pins or ribbons are necessary for a messy bun, Lady Mary.

Now, how will I get back to the future in time for The Office series finale?

Jenn:

There were many options I considered for where in time I would like to startle with my present day fashions. I started with 1999, in hopes of inspiring a younger and less fortunate version of myself, but do I really want to spend any more time in the 90s? No thanks. Then there was the 50s, where I could shock and cause chatter at every PTA meeting in town by being the provocative girl in DENIM CUTOFFS. Shield the children’s young virgin eyes! But let’s be real, Pleasantville has already been done. So I pondered saying, “God, this is tough.”

Then it hit me. GOD.

I want to go back to Ancient Greece!! Why? Because A. Toga’s are so one note, these peeps need some variety introduced into their daily wear, and B. THEY WOULD THINK I’M A GOD. Think about it, this homegirl shows up in some futuristic and outlandish attire, it’s definitely Athena!

So, if I’m going for this modern goddess of war look (my daily attire), I’m going to turn to my most badass designer friend, Alexander McQueen! High waisted shorts are necessary for a feminine, yet ready for battle vibe. Athena also represented wisdom, so the skull tank incorporates this element, and this cool take on camo jacket would have me worshipping whomever was wearing it, goddess or no goddess.

The combat boots speak for themselves, and the intense bangle and collar look like armor. Sexy, gold armor, that I would like to add to my personal jewelry collection. And just like that, I’ve infiltrated toga town armed with nothing but a pair of shorts and a graphic tank.

Think I’m being too literal? Well, ever since the whole Oedipus debacle, everyone takes things pretty literally.

Hello world! I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything up in a while. There are many new oppor

Hello world! I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything up in a while. There are many new opportunities that have popped up in my life so I had to put all those things in order. One exciting update is that the StyleJargon page will get a new look in the next couple weeks. Aaaand… I’m going to New York City on Tuesday!!! So stay tuned with my posts about my upcoming trip to the Big Apple.

Anyway, here’s a simple OOTD:

Frankly, I don’t wear many jeans. I don’t really own many pairs of them either. But Toronto weather has been on and off as usual and jeans are the perfect staple to help you be on guard if ever there’s a drop in temperature. Here, I’m wearing my dark-wash jeans with folded cuffs just to expose a little bit of ankle. Usually you see folded cuffs with flats or heels, so I decided to be different with hightop boots.Oh, and don’t overlook the cute cardigan with the cowl-neck detail.

cardigan; bluenotes shirt; h&m

jeans + boots; forever21

Today’s Style Jargon
cowl-neck: a high loose-fitting turnover collar used especially for sweaters.
