<p>AOL Travel, one of the top travel websites, recently named St. Kitts &#38; Nevis the 4th top travel destination for 2011, highlighting the islands’ lush rainforests, rich history, and exquisite renovated plantations. Meanwhile, David Dodwell, hotelier and owner of The Reefs and the Nisbet Plantation Beach Club, has just been named the 2010 Caribbean Hotelier of the Year by the Caribbean Hotel &#38; Tourism Association (CHTA). John Hanley, Nevis Tourism Authority CEO considers both of these recent acknowledgements to be “great honors for our island.”</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-25299" title="Nisbet Plantation Beach Club" src="http://repeatingislands.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/nevis_hotel_001p2.jpg?w=300&#038;h=236" alt="" width="300" height="236" />David Dodwell, a graduate of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration with more than four decades of hospitality career experience, was honored by the CHTA for his achievements in the areas of hotel operations, food and beverage, marketing, property maintenance, staff training and motivation, and most importantly, his commitment to the environment and the St. Kitts and Nevis community. He becomes the 33rd recipient of the distinguished golden conch shell and joins an elite list of the most accomplished hotel leaders in the Caribbean. Dodwell purchased the 36-room Nisbet Plantation Beach Club in 1989. It is the Caribbean’s only historic plantation inn located on the beach and is one of the world’s best resorts according to <em>Travel+Leisure</em>, <em>Condé Nast Traveler</em>, and other travel-related media.</p>
<p>Nevis Tourism describes: “the island of Nevis is a tiny jewel just eight miles long and six miles wide. The Spanish explorers called Nevis, “Nuestra Senora de las Nieves” (Our Lady of the Snows) as a tribute to the white clouds surrounding the island’s central volcanic peak. The Caribbean island garnered international fame by two well-known historical figures. It was the birthplace of American Patriot Alexander Hamilton as well as the setting of Captain Horatio Nelson’s wedding to an island woman, Fanny Nisbet, in 1787. </p>
