I like to think that once upon a time at Indochine people like Warhol or Basquiat were sitting in these very same booths, beneath the banana leaf murals and eat the very same delicious entries. (Althought I don’t know if they were really into eating).

At irregular intervals the charming Nadine would appeared from behind the curtains, and with the magnaninous power of a blond goddess saved a few human beings by letting them in.

Once saved, I elbowed my way to the center of the booming crowded room. But most of the guests were too gorgeous –or too tall, as is the case with some of the superstar drag queens – to be pushed on the side, and I finally had to retreat in the basement bar and dance floor, which some insiders refers to as Under-chine and had not seen open for decades.

I’m not so much of a dance person. I would rather read a book, or talk to someone, so I went up to the go-go dancer poles and asked one of the prettiest go-go girls if it would bother her if we had a little chat while she was working. I had  to shout over what I recognized as an old  B52s tune, without the certainty to be heard. She shooked her head, but it was not clear what the answer was.

From Art, or Fashion, I insisted, what do you think is… It seemed she meant go-go dancing is an Art form, like everything else.

For those who missed the party, a commemorative book has just been published by Rizzoli : Indochine, Stories, Shaken and Stirred. The limited edition available at Indochine even comes with a free set of labelled paper napkins and two pairs of chopsticks.

Hello Kitty is the new icon?

I never understood people’s fascination with Hello Kitty. Especially in the Asian countries, this kitten is really popular. One of my friends has a little Hello Kitty obsession…Ever seen a Hello Kitty Rolex…? Well, since Kitty reached the adult age 35 this year, it might explain why all of a sudden she’s adopted the ’style-icon’-status. According to Carine Roitfeld, that is? She posed with a ‘Vogue’ Hello Kitty-doll a little while ago.

And then Hello Kitty-hell broke loose… MAC developed a Hello Kitty make-up collection, some people even go to far and wear Hello Kitty coats…

Personally I prefer the Hello Kitty grafitti. Always add a little edge, that’s more my style…And, okay, the H&M Hello Kitty sweater works fine for me too…

Heidi Klum – Roberto Cavalli – 5! That’s a very Heidi dress, plus she was the host, walked the runway, and just had a baby. She looks great.

It seems like Oliver Zahm, the editor in chief of Purple Magazine, has his hands full.

Not only he is the one co art directing the book about Carine Roitfeld, but now it appears he is involved in the first issue of the Chanel Magazine. 31, Rue de Cambon, is named after the iconic address where Coco made her fame and is still the headquarters of the brand in Paris.

The magazine is said to be in the similar lines of the YSL Manifesto, the booklet hand out in the main fashion cities with a gift (this year’s gift was a gorgeous tote bag).

As expected all Karl’s favorites are present in the issue, Lara Stone, Freja Erichen and of course Baptiste Giabiconi. The trio acted a menage a trois in the Chanel farm theme fashion show, in October.

Distributed in the Chanel stores, the magazine will feature Karl’s and Chanel world, complete with all the must haves and favorites.

If I was questioning the no pants tradition, I am now seriously rejecting it. I don’t think Carine Roitfeld (editor-in-chief at Paris Vogue) exactly looked her best in this trend, and if she doesn’t, I am convinced that no other soul in the world should attempt this look unless you are:

A) Beyonce

B) Lady Gaga

or

C) A ballerina

I actually think that the no pants look she dons in the second photo would be really fantastic at a chic costume party… it reminds me a bit of a vampire, which is totally acceptable nowadays because of the crazed vampire frenzy thanks to Edward Cullen and crew. Everyone else, keep your pants on and as tempting as it might be, stop buying those leotards and, along the same line, tights/leggings are not pants!

Olivier Zahm, the man who recently described his trademark look as “a disguise” — “five or six years ago, I decided to wear this kind of outfit and behave as if I were a celebrity. It’s not out of narcissism. It’s for the magazine. For an independent magazine to exist, I had to incarnate it personally” — has been busy with projects other than Purple Fashion lately.  He and art director Alex Wiederin have been working together “on Carine Roitfeld’s book” — no further details given, and he’s also “art directed and designed” the first issue of 31 Rue Cambon, a Chanel magazine — which seems to be in a similar vein as Yves Saint Laurent’s Manifesto — to be distributed worldwide in Chanel stores. Featured, of course, are Chanel favorites like Lara Stone, Baptiste Giabiconi, and Freja Beha Erichsen.

Carine Roitfeld, the 55 year old, editor in chief of Vogue Paris is said to soon become a book.

Olivier Zahm, editor in chief of sexy, fashion and luxurious Purple Magazine, is working with art director Alex Wiederin on a book about Carine.

Alex has contributed as an art director to AnOther Magazine, Vogue Hommes International and 10 . From his boutique studio in NY, he has created concepts for the likes of Valentino, Cesar Paccioti, Missoni, Cerruti Jeans, Jigsaw, Yves St. Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Lanvin, Versace, Cartier and H&M.

However no details have been given yet, this is surely going to be a best seller. Join the queue girls !

Last week, when talking via twitter with @stylenoirgossip about PETA attacking the French Vogue editor, Carine Roitfeld, PETA has finally gotten to my last nerve. Yes, they’re for a good cause, but their actions are quite hypocritical, don’t you think? Abusing a human to abusing an animal? Do they not want total equality? Also, not too long ago, they went through a huge amount of exposure to where the facts were told: 97% of animals they attempt to rescue “die” in their care; where is all that money going from donations? Besides that, I do not think someone should base being vegan off of PETA. I support Vegetarians and Vegans immensely, but the morals PETA encourages make it seem like it’s a cool thing to do. Not just a cause.

Secondly, there are more omnivores than herbivores, and thus I do not think humankind will ever stop eating meat as a majority of the mass diet. Also, if I did not eat meat, my anemia would never get that feeling of fulfillment with a stomach full and at the same time, the absorption of nutrients. Yes, there are many things that have iron, but nothing is as satisfying as meat. Moreover, where does the meat come from? Cows. Where does leather come from? Cows. We appreciate the animal as a whole, and in many religions, it says that animals are put on earth to provide for us, and therefore we must appreciate their sacrifice. This, I do not think will ever go away, because religion dominates most of the world. I am not religious; but I do appreciate all that comes across to my possession. Oh my my heart hurts most when I hear PETA has ripped apart and thrown paint on an exquisite vintage fur jacket. How horrid of an act to the animal that provided the fur and the history with it!

Third, fake fur production uses oil and coal. Now this comes to the question: “Save an animal or save the planet?” As long as the animals are not under extinction (domesticated), and thus kept well (not abused in life), should we not appreciate what we have been given in order to survive? Animals that are not herbivores are going to attack us if they must. PETA should concentrate on animal abuse and conditions when in domestic care. With animal testing, yes it is horrible, but do we have any alternatives to testing vaccines for humanity? I guess an alternative could be keeping it inside a Petri dish, but is that efficient?

Lastly, have you ever looked at a PETA ad closely? Ironically in one of my classes on Friday we were given the PETA campaign ad that has an actress from Twilight naked in it. PETA is in small print in the bottom left corner, but no true message is displayed with the campaign. It seems very controversial.

Overall, this is my opinion, and thus I would also like to hear your opinion too. I’m not going to stop wearing fur, or eat meat. Furthermore, I don’t think one should become Vegan too “just because” of PETA (“omg! famous person on a PETA campaign so why not I become VEGAN?” *without knowing the true message behind it*), for they seem to be not true to their word completely and quite unfair to people that don’t play by their rulebook.

Carine Roitfeld (Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris), Lady Gaga and Madonna have all succumbed to the allure of going out looking senile. Kudos to them for their bravery.

As for the rest of the world, we can’t really see this one ever catching on with the masses. In fact, we can’t even see it catching on with celebrities outside the Madonna/Gaga sphere.

It’s one of those looks that will never make it off the runway (again, outside of Madonna or Lady Gaga or whomever else is desperate to get their picture taken). And that’s fine; there are plenty of things seen on the runway that never make it to the backs of mere mortals, but we wonder why this trend is seen anywhere, runways included. It’s not fabulous or flattering or interesting. It just looks like a bunch of women with too much on their minds leaving the house and forgetting something along the way. Will we be seeing male models walking down the runway with their flies undone? We look forward to that.

The most AMAZING thing happened a couple of weeks ago and I am now sharing because I didn’t think it would actually happen. I’m going to Paris!!!

I will be there courtesy of Lancôme and will be previewing their Spring 2010 collection. Exciting, non?? If any of you are from the city, tell me, what should I do? Where should I go?

Who knows, maybe I’ll run into Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld having lunch and they’ll invite me over. We can talk about fashion, Carine will teach me the ways of looking chic without trying and Karl will want me in his next show…
