<p>I was able to track down immigration paperwork for Clara Carlsson, but was unable to dig any up for Carl Nelson as the census papers have discrepancies for his immigration date. I do have paperwork that states that both Clara and Carl lived as lodgers in Vermont with a family before they were married meaning they did not comes to the US together from Sweden. In Grandma Norma&#8217;s notes, she says they were from Laxarby, Sweden so I&#8217;m not sure what to think.</p>
<p>I do have pictures of everyone except Carl Nelson. I also have pictures of Paul&#8217;s daughter Patricia who died of polio as a toddler. Some of these I&#8217;ve already scanned and put into my small-but-growing database.</p>

<p>I have a few Heisserer pictures, but not many. From what I gathered on the family in general, Theon and Valeria were married 20 Nov 1900 by clergymen in Millwood, Lincoln County, MO. The following is an excerpt from a book that once belonged to Grandma Norma compiled by Romona Blattel Glastetter (a distant cousin and Heisserer descendant):</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;Theon started the T.S. Heisserer &#38; Company&#8211;Oran&#8217;s big department store. Zeno, his brother, later became his partner in the business. Theon was also a prominent real estate dealer in Southeast Missouri. He and Valeria took a trip to Canada to a cattle show and they decided to go home by way of Colorado Springs (where they had gone on their honeymoon). Word was received from Denver, CO that Theon was operated on for appendicitis, peritonitis had set in and he did not rally.&#8221;</p>
<p>Grandma Norma also wrote about her father&#8217;s death in a letter to her niece Anne (I&#8217;m assuming a Smith):</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;Your grandfather, Theon S. Heisserer, practically owned the whole town of Oran, Mo. at one time. He and my mother went on what they called a second honeymoon to Colorado Springs via Canada on a thoroughbred cattle show. They got to Denver and Dad had an attack of appendicitis&#8211;fierce for 3 days&#8211;5 days later peronitis sets in and so Mom comes back to Oran with Dad in the baggage car&#8211;1000 miles away to 7 children.&#8221;</p>
<p>Also from the book written by one of the many Heisserer descendants:</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;Their house was destroyed by fire in Nov 1923. Mrs. Mary Valeria Heisserer and Alma were away and only Norma, Howard, and Catherine were home. A man from Perkins who was on the way home from Benton first saw the fire and gave the alarm. In a short time a large crowd of people gathered but scarcely anything was saved, as the fire had gained such headway in the basement and first floor that it was dangerous to attempt much work of this kind. Norma smelled smoke and went to the basement, and as soon as she opened the door her exit was filled with flames, and she rushed farther into the cellar and finally got out by crawling through a coal chute. As it was she was slightly scorched&#8230;The house was a handsome one and cost about $15,000. Insurance was carried. They then moved to St. Louis in Aug 1924. They also raised Paul Burger, a nephew.&#8221;</p>
<p>Now Dad claims that Grandma Norma was responsible for the fire, but who knows if this is actually the case. I have a photo of the old house obviously before it was burnt to the ground. If anyone wants an electronic version I&#8217;ll be happy to send it. I also recently found the wedding invitations for Alma, Andrew &#8220;Jack&#8217;s&#8221; invitations and one of bridesmaids&#8217; favors from Gladys&#8217;s wedding 14 Oct 1924. Like my other posts, anyone with an asterik (*) is referred to in more detail in <span style="color:#99cc00;">Level 3: Granparents Hennessy + Nelson</span></p>
<p>One of the random fun facts I found is that Grandma Norma and Eric Verner Nelson&#8217;s anniversary is the same date as Great Grandpa Theon and Valeria&#8217;s anniversary. If I have a decent recollection, I believe that there is a set of great-great grandparents that have the same anniversary date as well. If I ever get married, I&#8217;ll be claiming November 20th for the wedding (even if that means a Wednesday)! Too bad it falls in both Syracuse basketball season and football season. I guess people will show up as long as I don&#8217;t schedule it on a Saturday, Sunday, or Monday.</p>

Therefore, I&#8217;ll start with my grandparents which I&#8217;ll title &#8220;Level 3.&#8221; My parents would have been &#8220;Level 2&#8243; and I would be &#8220;Level 1.&#8221;</p>

<p>Edward and Mary had a daughter in July 1947 (mom) in Elmira, Chemung County, NY. She married into the Nelson family and has three daughters none of which are married yet. Edward enlisted in the army as a medic during WWII and later owned a liquor store in Elmira, NY. Much later after his death, Mary moved to Rochester, NY to be closer to their daughter and encountered many health problems, but lived long enough to play with all three of her granddaughters, the youngest being only 3 years old when she passed.</p>
<p>I haven&#8217;t sorted through many of grandma Hennessy&#8217;s photos as Mom can&#8217;t identify many of the people in the photos. However, thats my next big task (although much less daunting than the Nelson side of the family).</p>
<p>Here is the information that my mom sent me a few years ago concerning our family history, surprisingly it&#8217;s very succint (unlike th way mom usually speaks&#8230;just kidding mom):</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;Your maternal Grandarents: Grandmother, Mary Louise Callan Hennessy, born 6/13/04 in Binghamtom, N.Y., died 5/9/90 in Rochester, N.Y.  High school graduate, worked as dental assistant until married, housewife and then worked during holidays at husband&#8217;s business.  U.S. citizen, middle class, Roman Catholic. Grandfather, Edward Matthew Hennessy, born 7/23/06 in Elmira, N.Y., died 9/4/68 in Elmira, N.Y.  Education, graduated from Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor&#8217;s degree in business. Jobs: stockbroker and business owner.  Medic in U.S. army, stationed in Germany in WW2.  U.S. citizen, middle class, Roman Catholic.&#8221;</p>

<p>They were married on 19 Nov 1938 in St. Louis, MO where they met while Norma was working as a secretary at the Vulcan Group where Eric was a salesman. Eric and Norma had three sons. One born 3 Jun 1939 Lyons, Wayne County, NY who married into the Budd family. He passed away on 2 Nov 2005. Their second son was born in Mar 1941 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, OH who married into the Stanek family and had two daughters both married (married into the Griffiths family and the Ivan family). Their third son was born in Jun 1945 in Binghamton, Broome County, NY (dad).</p>
<p>As a child Norma accidentally burned the farmhouse down in Oran. She later attended Washington University in St. Louis for interior design, but did not graduate. I have a great amount of information and photos of grandma Norma&#8217;s including, but definitely not limited to (because it seems grandma kept everything): newspaper clippings, Heisserer family birth records, photos, magazine clippings, love letters from Eric, wedding announcements, an old travel journal, etc.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s what dad wrote me about grandpa and grandma Nelson:<span style="font-family:arial,helvetica;"> </span></p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;My father, Eric Verner Nelson, was born on June 20, 1903, in Brattleboro, Vt. After graduating from high school, he turned down a college scholarship to Middlebury College in Vermont in order to work. College wasn&#8217;t as important back then. I believe that his first job was in the shoe business in Brattleboro. He was too young to serve in World War I. In the 1920&#8217;s, he moved to New York City where he was a stock broker. In the late 1920&#8217;s, he attended law school at night at the Brooklyn Law School for two years. With the stock market crash in 1929, and the depression, he was transferred down south, and had to end his law school. At one point in the 1930&#8217;s, he started his own business trying to sell airplane tires, but the business failed. According to my dad, it failed because the product was too good. The tires lasted so long that there was no repeat business. Sometime in the 1930s, he became a salesman for Vulcan Corporation, a company that made ‘lasts&#8217; for shoes, and also shoe heels at the time. &#8220;Lasts&#8221; are the models on which shoes are made. He got married to grandma Nelson in 1938 when they were both living in St. Louis, Missouri. Mom was working for Vulcan Corp. as a secretary at the time.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;Grandma Nelson, maiden name Norma Elizabeth Heisserer, was born on September 5, 1910, in Oran, Missouri. She was one of seven children, four girls and three boys. You have met a few of them. Aunt Gladys was the oldest and lived in Niagara Falls; Uncle Hal lived in many places and stayed with us over one Christmas when he was 88 years old; Aunt Kate is still alive and living in Sun City, Arizona. It is Kate&#8217;s children that we met when we visited Chicago a few years ago. We also stayed with her son Tom Smith in St. Louis. Her daughter Mary came to the memorial mass for Grandma Nelson and stayed for a while at the reception in Tony&#8217;s back yard.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;In 1923, grandma Nelson accidentally started a fire which burned the family house down in Oran. The family then moved to St. Louis. Your uncle Eric was born in Lyons on June 3, 1939. They were transferred again because they were living in Portsmouth, Ohio when your uncle Tony was born on March 14, 1941. When the United States got involved in World War II at the end of 1941, my father tried to enlist, but they wouldn&#8217;t let him, apparently because he was too old.  My mother was furious at him for trying to enlist with two young children. My father continued to work for Vulcan Corp. for the rest of his career.  By 1945, he had been made vice president of sales. They moved to Binghamton around 1944. I was born on June 27, 1945, in Binghamton. My parents continued to live in Binghamton for the rest of their lives. My dad retired in 1969. At the time, he was senior vice president of the company and general manager of the two old plants that the company had in Binghamton. He had been asked several times to move to Cincinnati, Ohio, where the company had its headquarters, but he didn&#8217;t want to move again. He liked it in Binghamton.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;My father died on June 20, 1977, i.e. on his 74th birthday. Although he liked reading about religion, he did not adhere to any particular religion.  He was probably an agnostic, i.e. not knowing whether or not there is a god. He was definitely not a believer in Christ as god. My mother on the other hand was a devout Catholic, who went to church every day during Lent, often taking us kids with her. She could often be seen saying her rosary when she had nothing else to do.&#8221;</p>
<p>Grandma Norma kept EVERYTHING! This is the wedding announcement from what I&#8217;m assuming is St. Louis or Scott County newspaper:</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;Norma Heisserer is Wed to Eric V. Nelson</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;Miss Norma Elizabeth Heisserer, daughter of Mrs. Theon S. Heisserer, 19 North Taylor avenue, and Eric V. Nelson of Rochester, N.Y., formerly of St. Louis were married Saturday evening Nov. 19, in the rectory of the St. Louis Cathedral. The Rev. Sylvester Tucker performed the ceremony. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Carlson Nelson of Brattleboro, Vt.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;Mrs. Warren E. Brown was her sister&#8217;s only attendant and Noel Rorby was best man. Only the immediate families attended the wedding.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;The bride wore a simple black wool gown, with a jacket of old rose velveteen trimmed with a collar of skunk. She carried a skunk muff and wore a hat to match her jacket. Her flowers were a corsage of orchid and lilies of the valley.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">&#8220;A small reception was given at the bride&#8217;s home after the ceremony.</p>

<p><strong>German tuner Carlsson has given the Mercedes-Benz E500 Coupe a tune-up, bumping up horsey power to 435bhp</strong></p>
<p>The Carlsson CK20, as the new car is named, has an increased power output of 435bhp and 600Nm of torque. New stainless steel sport exhaust silencer, with dual oval pipes, contribute 11 of those horsepower while also providing a more robust exhaust noise.</p>
<p>With an overall increase of 47bhp from the standard E500 Coupe’s 388bhp, the car needs help in reining the power in. And Carlsson has taken care of that with a new coilover suspension with damping and height adjusting that can lower the car up to 30mm. There are also new REVO 20-inch light alloy wheels which come in a dual-tone finish.</p>
<p>Cosmetic additions are limited, with only a front and rear spoiler being added, although there is also an optional RS front lip. Inside though, Carlsson has made its presence known by offering new gearshift and steering wheel covers in a leather/ultra-suede combo, aluminium covers for the pedals and illuminated floor mats with the Carlsson badge.</p>

Вечерта обаче спря интернета и нямах възможност да кача всичко. <p>Посетих Авто Фест Варна 2009  в предпоследния му ден и още с влизането видях голям транспарант <strong>Top Gear</strong> и просто спрях да гледам към останалата част от залата, сякаш бях хипнотизиран <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  Естествено, там се намираха най-интересните коли в цялото изложение&#8230; сигурно съм седял около 2 часа. Най-лошото бе, че не позволяваха да се влиза в колите или да се снимат салоните им. Освен това, на брошурата пишеше, че ще има и <strong>Nissan GT-R</strong>, но тази невероятна кола не бе там, за което съжалявам много. Въпреки това си прекарах чудесно и снимах, докато запълня цялата карта с памет на фотоапарата ми.</p>

<p>Първо видях <strong>Infinity FX50</strong>, но доста бързо преминах към  <strong>Infinity G37 Coupe</strong> &#8211; много красива червена кола, в която дори успях да седна, но не ми позволиха да снимам интериора <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' /> . Чак след като й се накефих, забелязах, че до всяка кола си има табела с характеристиките, коментар на Джереми Кларксън и цената &#8211; естествено, наснимах всички. след Infinity G37 Coupe пристъпих бавно към нещо доста по вълнуващо <strong>Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black Series</strong>. И там поседях доста време зяпайки отстрани, защото не успях да убедя пича да ме пусне вътре, но пък ми отвори предния капак <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> . Следващата кола обаче беше нещо, което може да спокойно да се определи като уникално &#8211; <strong>Mercedes Carlsson Aigner CK65 Eau Rouge</strong>. Сигурно съм гледал втренчено всеки детайл по няколко минути&#8230; Невероятна визия и внимание към детайлите, изключително удобен и елегантен салон (да, успях да седна вътре). Малко след като ме пуснаха да седна започна да се събира тълпа и да снима. Това принуди отговорните за колата хора да отворят предния капак и да махнат предпазните капаци, за да се разкрие 6-литровия V12 мотор с мощност 705 к.с. Само вижте колко снимки направих на двигателя <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  Не знам дали някога ще го видим по родните пътища, защото били произведени само 10 бройки в цял свят.</p>

<p>Точно след  Mercedes Carlsson Aigner CK65 Eau Rouge имаше един тъмнозелен <strong>Morgan Plus 4</strong>, който бе много добре реставриран и запазен. Красавица! Точно до Morgan-а имаше нещо много странно и чудато, носещо името <strong>Морски Дух</strong>. Оказа се, че това е изобретение на Техническия Университет във Варна и върви с природен газ, но се задвижва и с педали, като колело. Колко и да ми бе интересно, в крайна сметка се върнах на Mercedes Carlsson Aigner CK65 Eau Rouge, за да му се порадвам още <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>След като се радват доста време на Mercedes Carlsson Aigner CK65 Eau Rouge реших да видя какво друго има щанда на Top Gear. Мернах набързо <strong>Suziki GSX 1300 R Hayabusa</strong> и <strong>Suzuki GSX 1000 R</strong>, но точно след тях имаше много по-вълнуващи и интересни неща. Първото бе <strong>Can Am Spyder Roadster</strong> &#8211; 1000-кубиков мотор-триколка, но не точно&#8230; нито е мотор, нито е кола. Все пак изглежда много оригинално, яко и 100% ще привлича погледите по улиците.</p>

<p>Следващият изложен автомобил обаче беше много по-ефектен и загадъчно красив. <strong>KTM X-Bow Superlight</strong> &#8211; 2.0-литрoв двигател със 6-степенна механична скоростна кутия и турбо, които предават на задните колела 220 к.с. Цялата конструкция тежи малко повече от болид на Формула 1 &#8211; само 785 кг. Точно заради малкото си тегло това карбоново чудо ускорява от 0-100 за 3.9 секунди <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  Ех, как исках само да чуя звука от ауспусите му&#8230; но уви, не позволяваха колите от щанда на Top Gear да бъдат запалвани. Останах си само с гледането и снимането&#8230;</p>

<p>Преминах на следващите две коли &#8211; <strong>Alfa Romeo Brera 2.4 JTD</strong> и <strong>Maserati GranTurismo S</strong>, но тях вече ги бях виждал неколкократно по улиците на Варна, така че нямаше нищо интересно. За жалост, те бяха и последните две попълнения на щанда на Top Gear. Нямах избор, освен да обиколя още 5-6 пъти целия щанд и да продължа към останала част от изложението.</p>

<p>Точно срещу колите от Top Gear имаше един много интересен автомобил &#8211; искрящо зелен <strong>Ford Focus RS 2.5 DURATEC 305 PS</strong>. Веднага си спомних епизода от Top Gear, в който Джереми Кларскън показана на какво е способна тази кола. На живо наистина изглеждаше много добре и отвътре, и отвън. С още няколко момчета успяхме да убедим представителя, че много искаме да чуем звука му&#8230; и успяхме. Ммм, обожавам ръмженето на мощни двигатели. Адреналинът нахлува бързо&#8230; но това е друга тема. И около Ford Focus RS 2.5 DURATEC се задържах известно време (поне 30 минути) преди да пристъпя към по-безинтересните коли <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>Огледах се набързо и погледът ми се спря на бял хечбек на щанда на Subaru. Може би сте се досетили, че вниманието е било привлечено точно от новата <strong>Subaru Impreza</strong> <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  Минах, седнах, запалих, нарадвах се и продължих, за да не направя някоя глупост. Исках по-бързо да сляза от колата, защото бях на ръба да вкарам 1-ва и да тръгна. Точно поради тази причина се насочих към останалите изложени автомобили от Subaru. Видях набързо <strong>Subaru Triback</strong> и <strong>Subaru Outback</strong>, но за мен нямаше нищо интересно в тях.</p>

<p>Минах и през Nissan, но както вече казах, Nissan GT-R не присъстваше на Авто Фест Варна 2009. Щракнах <strong>Nissan QuashQai</strong> и <strong>Nissan Navara</strong> и си тръгнах от там разочарован.</p>

<p>Пристъпих към Skoda, но и там нямаше нищо, което да не сте виждали по родните пътища &#8211; новата <strong>Skoda Superb</strong>, <strong>Skoda Octavia</strong> и още един много грозен модел, който просто не заслужи вниманието на фотоапарата ми.</p>

<p>Точно от другата страна на Skoda бяха изложени моделите на Citroen, сред които най-интересен бе <strong>Citroen C4 VTR By Sebastien Loeb 1.6</strong>. Освен готините лепенки по вратите, салонът е изпипан напълно в спортен стил, но са останали всички екстри. Като цяло не изглежда никак зле, но само на външен вид &#8211; под капака няма нищо впечатляващо &#8211; 1.6-литров мотор с мощност 122 к.с.</p>

<p>Естествено, погледнах какво има на щандовете и на останалите производители, участващи в изложението, но не видях нищо прекалено интересно. <strong>Fiat Bravo</strong>, <strong>Fiat 500</strong>, <strong>Mazda 6</strong>, <strong>Toyota Prius</strong> и новото <strong>Peugeot 308 CC Premium Pack 2.0 HDI</strong>.</p>

<p>За края си оставих щанда на Daihatsu, където имаше една много симпатична малка спортна кола &#8211; <strong>Daihatsu Copen</strong>. Изглеждаше доста ефектно, но под капака има само 1.3-литров мотор с мощност 90 к.с.</p>

<p>There was a time when Mercedes-Benz built the ultimate premium (not luxury, old Mercs could never be considered luxurious) cars. They were engineered to a standard and the price was set accordingly.</p>
<p><a href="http://downsideupdesign.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/porschebenzfront.jpg"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-1016 alignleft" title="Porschebenzfront" src="http://downsideupdesign.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/porschebenzfront.jpg?w=150" alt="Porschebenzfront" width="150" height="105" /></a>My client&#8217;s neighbour is the proud owner of an early 90s 500E, a performance saloon (again, old Mercs, no matter how powerful, were never sports cars) produced at the peak in Mercedes&#8217; unwavering dedication to excellence in the automotive art.</p>
<p>The price of entry was a staggering DM134,000, or around €100,000 today, taking into account inflation. Yet because of the design and engineering integrity that all that cash purchased , after more than 20 years and 300,000 kilometres the only major work that needs doing is a reconditioning of the gearbox.</p>
<p>That Mercedes’ determination to build the world’s best cars was so dogged that it lead them to the brink of bankruptcy cannot be ignored. Yet the subsequent, wholesale dilution of their core value of integrity in the chase for bigger margins exacted a heavy toll on their brand image.</p>

<p>I recently spent a day with the new Mercedes E-Class and, despite going in with an open mind and the assurances of the mainstream motoring press that the car represents a resounding return to form, it was a frustrating experience. I really wanted to love this car but the new E has come out of the Sindolfingen oven rather under done.</p>
<p>Although my steed, a lowly 220 CDI Blutec, will “only” set you back €47,000 in <em>Elegance </em>trim, the messages &#8211; for one of my interests is perceived versus actual quality &#8211; sent out by both design and construction made me feel that trouble-free years will be counted on one hand, not four like the neighbour’s 500E.</p>
<p>From a design perspective, the overall theme communicates confusion about what the E should represent. Should it be a dynamic sports saloon, like the 5 Series, an upper-middle-class slice of American-school “luxury” or does it tap into the rich vein of elegance and understatement that typified Benz’s of yore? Unfortunately the car represents an awkward mélange of all three with, unsurprisingly, mixed results.</p>

<p>The confusion starts in the latest interpretation of Mercedes’ down-road-graphic (DRG). Aggressive inner lamps jar against a somewhat anonymous outer lamp graphic and, despite being an evolution of the classic Mercedes twin-lamp hallmark, the visage communicates nothing intrinsically “Mercedes”.</p>
<p>There’s a level of dignity in the scaling of the lower air intakes but poor resolution of number plate placement sees the centre intake graphic broken unceremoniously. Simultaneously, the plate butts up uncomfortably against the sharp surface break that defines a bold, some might say crass, get-out-of-my-way grill.</p>

<p>The thing that really shocked me, however, was the choice of twin, round fog lamps in the trapezoidal lower grilles. To my eyes they sit so uncomfortably with the other forms and surfaces in the DRG as to beggar belief. I have a suspicion as to what might have inspired these chromed carbuncles and it lends weight to my theory that this is a design born out of sheer confusion.</p>
<p><a href="http://downsideupdesign.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/carlsson-aigner-ck65-rs-blanchimont-17.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1020" title="carlsson-aigner-ck65-rs-blanchimont-17" src="http://downsideupdesign.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/carlsson-aigner-ck65-rs-blanchimont-17.jpg?w=150" alt="carlsson-aigner-ck65-rs-blanchimont-17" width="150" height="112" /></a>For those of you unfamiliar with Mercedes tuners, there&#8217;s an outfit by the name of Carlsson and they produce some of the most garish bodykits and interiors to have graced the three-pointed star. Case in point is the gob-smacking Carlsson Aigner CK65 RS Blanchimont. Note the twin round lamps in the lower grills? They&#8217;ve long been a Carlsson hallmark. Tuner fog lamps on a bread-and-butter E-Class? Really?</p>
<p>In profile, the car suffers from a heaviness that all the wedge, light catchers and chrome detailing in the world can&#8217;t disguise (even though the designers have tried; there are 10 surface changes from the rear door window down&#8230;).</p>

<p>Heavieness in profile can be fine and, used well, it communicates gravitas and elegance. It worked, in my view, for the previous BMW 7 Series, and hell, Mercedes’ of the 80’s and 90’s positively revelled in their largesse. So why did these cars wear their weight so well? The designers made no bones about it and the heaviness was celebrated. The E-Class, on the other hand, is trying to pull off clothes that her frame just isn’t built for. The term “<a href="http://imway2fat.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/muffin-top.jpg">muffin top</a>” comes to mind, especially when looking at the rear wheel arch blister.</p>
<p>The discord between the chrome rubbing strip as it relates to the other side feature lines and it&#8217;s continuation into the rear bumper is particularly noticeable and uncomfortable. And while I&#8217;m never one to shy away from a clamshell hood, the tolerances in the shut lines on this particular car were so variable as to make me try and stick my finger through the gap, much as you could on a series 1 Range Rover.</p>

<p>The rear is just that; the part of the car where everything comes to a close. Enormous lamp graphic and an Opel-esque centre crease aside, there&#8217;s not a great deal to be said, except for this: in the age of stunningly intricate lamp units from Audi, BMW and Volkswagen, Mercedes can&#8217;t continue to hide its lights under a bushel.</p>
<p><a href="http://downsideupdesign.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/dsc08114.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1024" title="DSC08114" src="http://downsideupdesign.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/dsc08114.jpg?w=150" alt="DSC08114" width="150" height="100" /></a>From a distance (and where it counts for making an impression on the road) the lamps appear little more than painted on graphics. Up close, you can perceive a cool backlighting effect of the main elements but it&#8217;s so subtle that only a geek like me would notice.</p>
<p>There is one area, however, where the exterior designers and, moreover, the engineers have truly excelled: they&#8217;ve succeeded in the creation of a regular saloon package that cleaves the air like few others. Brought to my attention by the learned <a href="https://twitter.com/JoeSimpson">Joe Simpson</a> from the <a href="http://movementbureau.blogs.com/">Movement Design Bureau</a>, the cd of .25 bests that of any other saloon in the E Segment and equals that of the Prius. Happily, the E Class proves that aerodynamically efficient cars needn&#8217;t look like slippers.</p>

<p>The interior is a vast improvement over the previous car, especially when it comes to material choices. Even in this entry-level car, specced as it was with black cloth upholstery, there was, superficially at least, a sense of the resilience that characterised Mercs of years gone by.</p>

This blocky resolution worked a treat in the GLK, where is looks overtly tough and utilitarian. Here it just looks, well, overtly tough and utilitarian and not entirely suited to the E-Class&#8217;s role in life. The clunky change in surface and material half way up the centre stack also jars.</p>

<p>On the positive side there are some cute, thoughtful details to be found, like the ratcheting bottle holder and a speedometer needle that, magically, rotates without a visible centre pivot. Yet for every neat little thing, there are irritants like the Elegance badge that would look more at home on a Korean whitegood, the otherwise lovely ambient lighting in a shade that can only be described as &#8220;motorway rest stop&#8221; and the traditional Mercedes multifunction stick that’s hidden so resolutely by the steering wheel. I really shouldn&#8217;t need to peer over <em>and</em> around the wheel while driving to work out how to wash and wipe my screen. It’s this glaring lack of attention to detail that will continue to hinder Mercedes’ bid to rebuild it’s image as a premium manufacturer.</p>
<p>You may be getting the impression that, after 1100 words, the new E-Class is a disappointing car, and in many ways it is. There is one area, however, where it absolutely excelled.</p>
<p>After a grueling photo shoot where we successfully attempted to shoot three cars in a day, it was heaven to slip into the generously proportioned seats and get the Commodores cranking through the sublimely intuitive COMMAND interface. The car settled into a hushed 180 clicks for the trip home as I picked off the slower cars through the three-pointed star sitting proudly on the hood</p>
<p>The ride was unflustered, the steering light but direct and the engine, which sounded like a marital aid with a death wish when overly pushed, wafted me along on unstressed waves of torque.</p>
<p>It was, simply put, an excellent ‘bahn cruiser, demonstrating that underneath all the design confusion, Mercedes has produced a wonderfully capable car. If only the design was as unflustered and focused as the car underneath.</p>

<p>Sembra quasi che i preparatori si mettano d&#8217;accordo. Praticamente in contemporanea sono state rilasciate due versioni tuned di due berlinone tedesche per eccellenza (che recentemente hanno subito un profondo restyling): la Mercedes Classe E e la BMW Serie 7. Riguardo alla prima se ne parla in questo post, per la seconda basta passare al prossimo.</p>

<p>Inutile dilungarsi sulle parti aerodinamiche che sono state cambiate con pezzi ritoccati. Mi limito a dire che, rispetto a una comune vettura modificata da un tuner qualunque, si vede che qua c&#8217;è la mano di un esperto (come Carlsson appunto). Le parti meglio riuscite, a mio avviso sono: il frontale, con i soliti fari diurni a LED (messi però in verticale come segno distintivo del tuner) e il posteriore, dove, all&#8217;interno di un poderoso estrattore, sporgono due enormi scarichi in acciaio di forma ovale.</p>
<p>All&#8217;interno si vive in un lusso spropositato portato al massimo anche dall&#8217;installazione di un frigo bar tra i due sedili posteriori (come nelle migliori Roll&#8217;s). Per eliminare la noia di un lungo viaggio sono stati installati due schermi da 8 pollici sui poggiatesta anteriori accoppiati con un impianto audio naturalmente al top.</p>

<p>Tutti i motori, a partire da quelli meno esagerati (250 CDI) per arrivare al massimo (500) hanno subito aumenti di cavalleria notevoli: da 40 a 55 CV in più. L&#8217;assetto è stato dotato delle classiche sospensioni regolabili elettronicamente per assecondare la nuova potenza disponibile.</p>
<p>Piccola precisazione: la scelta per quanto riguarda i cerchi è ampia, si hanno 2 modelli da 20 a 23&#8243;. Per non rendere la vettura troppo alla Fast and Furious io starei sul classico e lascerei da parte i Carlsson Evo (quelli della terza foto per capirci).</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Each passing day, I would stare at the blinking horizontal line. It is less than a centimeter in size and is powered by a few pixels. It resides in fields where you need to type but apparently I couldn&#8217;t fill that field up.</p>
<p>Staring at it like it would magically churn out words.</p>
<p>Well, haven&#8217;t you noticed that ever since school holidays came, I can&#8217;t blog as much or as well as I used to. The bottom line is, my classmates seem to power my blog one way or another.</p>
<p>I miss you guys. I can&#8217;t say it to your faces that much as there are many things to talk about.<br />
Gosh, at this point I miss  a lot of things.</p>
<p>A little emotional at this moment. I need a hug.<br />
I want to feel everything is fine. Future scares me right now. I see it as a dark and looming presence that clouds our journey.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration:line-through;">National Service</span> Conscription.<br />

I have little hopes to enter University.<br />
I don&#8217;t wish to dabble more in Chemical Process.</p>
<p>I worry about my grandmother. Each time I see her, I felt sadness.<br />
Yes, she can be demanding/noisy and I rant a lot but I do love her. Behind all the rants that I made, I want her to be there by me no matter what.</p>
<p>March is coming to an end.<br />
As mentioned, I would like to rest for a month before working.<br />
I think I&#8217;ve rested enough. I&#8217;ve enjoyed myself tremendously with my family and friends  throughout March.</p>

<p>According to Wikipedia, The Saab Sonett was manufactured between 1966 and 1974, named after the Swedish saying, &#8220;Så nätt den är&#8221; meaning &#8216;how neat it is&#8221; . Since then they have become one of the most popular sports cars made. Each model of the Sonett brings a unique style to the Saab vehicle.</p>
<p>The Saab Sonett was introduced on March 16, 1956. The Sonett I, which was also known as Saab 94, had a three-cylinder 748 cc two-stroke engine generating 57.5 hp (43 kW ) and an 70 kg chassis. The Sonett II underwent changes as its 2-stroke engine was switched to a four-stroke engine by 1967 changing its name to the Sonett V4. Both the Sonett II and V4 share 50% of their components.</p>
<p>In 1970 the Sonett V4 was renamed the Sonett III, a rear glss window replaced the hatch door. A floor mounted shifter also replaced the old column shift from the Sonett II and V4 models. While the same V4 engine was used to produce the Sonett III&#8217;s, emission requirements restricted the car&#8217;s horespower.</p>
<p>By the end of 1974, low sales and the1973 oil crisis caused the Saab Sonett to be discontinued.</p>
<p>Today, the Saab Sonett II/V4 shows to be the most popular of the models as collector&#8217;s models with very few quality models of the Saab Sonett III available.</p>
<p>So whether you call them Saab Sonett, Saab Sonnet, Super Sport, 94, or &#8220;den nätt bil&#8221;, the Saab Sonett models were apart of Sweden&#8217;s history and the automotive history.</p>

The tuning package include a body kit in a two-tone red and black colors. It also has a larger grille, wider wheel arches, and new surface skirts for a more aggressive appearance. The electronic lowering kit drops the bother by a little over one-and-a-half inches.</p>

<p>Under the hood, the 5.4-liter DOHC V-8 engine has been boosted from 388 to 456 horsepower, gratitude to modified cylinders, a remapped ECU, and an open-flow exhaust practice. The Rascasse is qualified of a 5.9 next 0-62.</p>
<p>Three sample fake alloy wheels are surrounded by a warmly polished 23-crawl external rim. The sweep used is definitely lightweight, while being strong enough to manage with &#8220;unsprung weight of the larger diameter wheels and tyres.&#8221; Suspension has also been lowered by 40mm, to thresher with the wheels and tyres for better handling.</p>

The superior leathered interior has been styled to game the outside. Furthermore, the five rear seats have been replaced with two individual seats on whichever section of a small fridge, which comes complete with hand-blown <strong>Carlsson Aigner</strong> glasses.</p>
<p>Only 20 of the <strong>CK55 RS Rascasse</strong> will be made, and it will go for about $290,000 ($228,500 Euros). We have heard nothing about it being free for trade in the U.S.</p>

<p>Altra vettura Mercedes rivista da Carlsson, quello che sta diventando uno dei più attivi tuner al momento (e anche uno dei miei preferiti).</p>

<p>Ho avuto la possibilità di vedere dal vivo un Classe R350 modificata da Carlsson e devo dire che dal vivo la possente muscolatura di queste creazioni rende ancora meglio l&#8217;idea di tuning.</p>
<p>Al prossimo Salone di Ginevra invece verrà presentata la Carlsson Aigner CK55 Rascasse, altra figlia del binomio Carlsson-Aigner. Per chi non lo sapesse Aigner è un noto marchio di pelletteria che ha lavorato per rendere assolutamente esclusivi gli interni di altre due vetture Carlsson: la CK65 RS Blanchimont e la CK65 RS Eau Rouge.</p>
<p>La vettura di base non passa certo inosservata si suo: si tratta della GL500. Il nome della versione &#8220;Rascasse&#8221; è stato preso da quello dell&#8217;ultima curva del circuito di Montecarlo. Ciò che distingue le tre creazioni Carlsson-Aigner è in primo luogo il colore della carrozzeria: è stata infatti verniciata con uno schema bicolore che prevede (solo per questa vettura) la parte bassa in rosso-bordeaux (che riprende il colore degli interni) e la metà superiore in nero metallizzato.</p>
<p>L&#8217;imponenza del modello di base è stata portato all&#8217;estremo dal kit carrozzeria installato da Carlsson, che ritroviamo molto simile su tutte le altre auto uscite dalle mani dei suoi meccanici: paraurti anteriore e bandelle sottoporta molto pronunciate collegate ai passaruota; 2 serie di LED sotto a ciascun gruppo ottico, nuova griglia metallica anteriore, doppia coppia di fendinebbia tondi, quattro scarichi sportivi accoppiati.</p>
<p>Il motore ha subito una cura pesante: il V8 5.5 litri capace in partenza di 388 CV e 530 Nm è stato potenziato fino a 456 CV e 640 Nm. Le modifiche toccano molte parti vitali del propulsore tra cui: testate, alberi a camme, centralina elettronica rimappata e catalizzatore metallico. Le prestazioni sono degne di una vettura sportiva: 5,9 secondi sullo zero-cento parlano da soli per una vettura non certo light-weight. L&#8217;assetto è stato regolato di conseguenza per incrementare la stabilità della GL: è possibile alzare/abbassare la vettura fino a 40mm elettronicamente e il set di cerchi in lega da 23&#8243; monta pneumatici molto ribassati 305/30 ZR23.</p>
<p>Come abbiamo detto gli interni sono curatissimi in ogni particolare (sono stati addirittura eliminati 3 posti, l&#8217;ultima fila di sedili, per lasciare più ampia libertà ai 4 fortunati occupanti): è stato installato un generoso frigo-bar dotato di servizio di bicchieri griffati tra i due sedili posteriori e due schermi da 8&#8243; sui poggiatesta dei sedili anteriori.</p>
<p>Di questa Rascasse sono previsti 20 esemplari a un prezzo non certo popolare di 228.500 euro.</p>

<p>I can&#8217;t thank you enough for being there for me. What was really touching is that you came all the way to my place to pass me and even made me the tea despite the second cancellation about our outing.</p>

We&#8217;ll find a day after my exams where I hope nothing will bother us and we&#8217;ll go feast. I still have that promise to go Ikea with you and show you some locations. <p>Mercedes-Benz är ett märke som är relativt utsatt när det kommer till tuning, både på gott och ont. Ett av de förnämsta tuningföretagen när det gäller just Mercedes-Benz är tveklöst Carlsson. En sak som ofta får mig att inte gilla tuning är de vulgära utsvävningarna, enorma (fula) fälgar och body-kits som är påtok för extrema. Carlsson är ett undantag. De vet hur man lägger till detaljer utan att för den sakens skull förstöra bilens utseende. Om jag någongång skulle få för mig att lämna in min Mercedes, så kan jag lova er att Carlsson skulle ligga bra till.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight:bold;">PRESS RELEASE:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-style:italic;">With its CK63 RS refinement, Carlsson brings significantly more pressure on the streets than the Mercedes Benz SL 63 AMG which provides the basis for the new vehicle. More performance, a complete aerodynamics kit, finest leather in the interior and an exclusive varnish are the hallmarks of the new roadster from the Merzig-based company. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-style:italic;">Carlsson, the automobile manufacturer specialised on Mercedes Benz models, invigorates the eight-cylinder with significantly more performance. Although the cubic capacity with 6,208 cc has not been changed, the refined power engine renders up to 600 hp (441 kW) instead of the serial 525 hp (386 kW) with the AMG. </span><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">Also the maximum torque rises from 630 Newton metres at 5,200 rpm to 705 at 5,100 rpm. With the Carlsson refinement, the sprint from zero to a hundred only takes 4.1 seconds and is therefore half a second faster than the AMG-model. The acceleration is electronically limited at respectable 325 km/h instead of 250 km/h. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-style:italic;">In order to convey the power of the engine to the road, an extensive aerodynamic kit presses the CK63 RS onto the tar and provides an optimal grip. The air which is aspirated at the car front flows out through specially formed outlets at the car wings. Front apron and rear diffuser are made of polyurethane (PU) and are refined with carbon fibre elements which direct the air-flows for the best possible road grip. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight:bold;font-style:italic;">C-Tronic® SUSPENSION – intelligent lowering</p>
<p></span><span style="font-style:italic;">Moreover, the best road holding is guaranteed by the electronic lowering kit C-Tronic® SUSPENSION by Carlsson combined with the ABC-sports running gear by AMG. This enables to lower the roadster up to 30 millimetres. The high-performance brake system Carlsson Carbon Composite takes over the negative acceleration. At the front axle, 6-piston callipers carve into the 398&#215;36 millimetre carbon composite brake discs. At the rear axle, two 4-piston callipers grab the 330&#215;35 millimetre brake discs and stop the forged Carlsson 1/16 Ultra Light wheels sized 9.5&#215;20 inches at the front and 11&#215;20 inches at the back within the shortest time. As far as the last centimetres to the road are concerned, Carlsson chose the high- performance Dunlop SP SportMaxx with 255/30 ZR20 at the front- and 305/25 ZR20 at the rear axle. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-style:italic;">Even when the CK63 RS is parked, it impresses with its breathtaking varnish called &#8220;Stealth Titanium Graphite&#8221;, the far-most matt black colour that was ever produced. The co-operation between the internationally successful Mercedes-Benz refiner Carlsson and the expert for varnishes, Standox from Wuppertal, has led to a striking result. &#8220;Matt black was not enough for us&#8221; says Stafan Müller, responsible for Marketing at Carlsson. &#8220;We wanted a black varnish with such an extensive matt degree as it has never been seen before&#8221;. This intention was more than successful with the CK63 RS. Normally matt varnishes reach a degree of 20 to 25 gloss units, but the particular colour which has been especially developed for Carlsson, only has five gloss units. &#8220;And the colour shade still remains brilliant and is neither blurred nor milky&#8221; ensures Sascha Pfeffer, application technology manager at Standox.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-style:italic;">Apart from alterations for the varnish, engine and running gear, Carlsson also equipped the CK63 RS with a new interior. The seat sides, the inner lining of the doors and the cockpit hood scoop are made of charcoal-coloured ultra suede. The light ornamental seam renders an elegant contrast on these component parts. The soft velour car mats and the headrests are adorned with the prancing Carlsson horse. The driver enters the cock-pit by opening the gull-wing RS doors and by stepping over the door sill protectors with the illuminated manufacturer logo. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-style:italic;">With the CK 63 RS, Carlsson once more affirms its expertise as an exclusive manufacturer of high-quality Mercedes automobiles. The new model is offered for 272,500 euros including V.A.T. </span></p>

<p>Résultat, après quelques modifications dont Carlsson a le secret, le V8 6.2 de l&#8217;allemande passe de 535 à 600 ch, tandis que son couple augmente de 75 unités pour atteindre désormais 705 Nm. De quoi permettre à cette SL CK63 RS de passer de 0 à 100 km/h en à peine 4,1 s.</p>

<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">Dice <strong>Thom</strong>, “En verdad empezó como tres canciones diferentes con las cuales no sabíamos que hacer.Pensamos entonces en Happines ,que eran obviamente tres ritmos diferentes que John Lennon unio,y nos dijimos: Por que no lo intentamos?”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">Thom reconoce que este track nació como tres fragmentos distintos que ellos se propusieron unir durante los ensayos previos a la grabación de Ok Computer. Esta idea les surge inspirados en <strong>“Happines is a warm gun”</strong> de los Beatles, pero la critica y el publico se fijaran en otra gran referencia, <strong>Bohemian Rhapsody</strong> de <strong>Queen</strong>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">La tarea no resulto nada fácil y si bien nunca se plantearon el abandono, si creo las suficientes tensiones para que todo se estancara,hasta que finalmente la banda y Nigel Godrich prescindieron de Thom , que a esta alturas tenia una visión demasiado pesimista del futuro de la canción,y a sus espaldas lograron resolver el rompecabezas y completar la estructura básica de esta maravillosa obra.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">El agua es casi siempre el elemento esencial elegido por <strong>Radiohead</strong> para subrayar los giros dramáticos de su música (Pyramid Song, Weird Fishees, Sit down y siguen las firmas), y no podía faltar en la épica y monumental <strong>Paranoid Android</strong>. La tercera sección de esta obra  es la lluvia con la que <strong>Jony Greenwood</strong> nos invita al epilogo de esta mini opera rock.</span></p>
<p><em><strong>“</strong></em><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;"><em><strong>Paranoid Android es sobre el imperio Romano”,</strong></em> solía decir Thom por aquellos años. No será la primera ni la última vez que Thom apele al latiguillo romano para rehusar dar mayores explicaciones (mas cerca en el tiempo ese latiguillo lo aplico sobre You and whose army y sobre todo el concepto de Hail to the thief).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">Dicen que esa idea se la sugirió un periodista y que Thom la encontró adecuada para ya no decir nada más.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">Mezcla de citas inconexas con elementos anecdóticos, un collage en el que podemos encontrar variados elementos, y que nos sugieren distintas interpretaciones.Pero tener una única visión sobre esta magnifica obra es cuando menos temerario y dada la variedad de elementos con las que esta confeccionada, es cuando menos imposible.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">Si seguimos la letra encontraremos las siguientes referencias:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">-al humor retorcido de Thom en las primeras líneas (pollitos bulliciosos que no te dejan dormir Thom? Wow, vaya imaginación tío…).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">O una curiosa manera de recrear los tormentos a los que nuestra memoria nos somete ?.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">-a <strong>Marvin</strong> el androide paranoide de una “guía para el autostopista galáctico”,serie cómica y satírica inglesa escrita por Douglas Adams y que en el año 2005 fue llevada al <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy_(film)" target="_blank">cine</a>. Marvin es un robot paranoico miles de veces más inteligente que cualquier ser humano y que vive en permanente depresión por considerar a ninguna tarea que se le encargue digna de su inteligencia.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">-un hecho verdadero que Thom cuenta con espanto, su encuentro con la dama Gucci.Sobre esto Thom,nos narra que estando el y su crew en un bar, alguien del equipo derramo su copa de vino sobre la anoréxica humanidad de una dama pasada de cocaína la cual reacciono con una furia inusitada logrando que los echaran del lugar. Lo que mas le impresiona a Thom es percibir algo diabólico en esa mirada, y así queda plasmada en la letra. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:small;">-una clara referencia a “Alicia en el país de las maravillas” en la linea <strong>“off with his head, man…”.</strong> Esta expresión idiomática es poco utilizada en el ingles y tiene en la actualidad una connotación de reproche ,de una manera gentil, en un contexto humorístico. Pero si nos vamos un poco mas atrás en el tiempo veremos que esa es precisamente una frase latiguillo de La Reina de Corazones de la obra de <strong>Lewis Carrol, Alicia en el país de las maravillas.</strong> Y no será esta la última vez que nos topemos con el Sr Carrol en la extensa obra de Radiohead. </span></p>

<p align="left">El autor es un historietista sueco llamado <strong>Magnus Carlsson</strong>, creador de un personaje llamado <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_(cartoon)" target="_blank">Robin</a> (que es el protagonista del video mismo) que <strong>Channel 4</strong> emitía en Inglaterra en esos años y que, oh casualidad, gozaban del agrado de <strong>Thom y la banda</strong>., que acto seguido invito a Magnus a realizar el video.Robin es un chico suave y gentil que habita un mundo de brutalidades y atrocidades diarias. Cualquier parecido con Thom, no es casualidad.</p>

Då jag inte hade något bildbevis ville jag först inte tro på det, men idag såg jag dödsannonserna i tidningen.</p>
<p>Vi kommer alla minnas &#8220;TC&#8221; som en glad och rolig lärare. Han var en lustigkurre som gärna drog skämt och berättade historier under lektionerna, vilket både fasinerade alla, samtidigt som det gav erfarenheter och mer energi till att jobba.</p>
<p>Trots att vi inte längre går i skolan och har Tony som lärare så har han ändå betytt mycket för oss alla och kommer alltid betyda mycket. Han hade en förmåga att få allting, oavsett hur tråkigt det egentligen kunde vara, att bli roligt. Han lyckades nå fram på ett sätt som inte många kunde göra. Han var aldrig arg på någon. Han gjorde helt enkelt det bästa av situationerna.</p>
<p>Det är med detta inlägget vi vill hedra minnet av hans tragiska bortgång och försäkra alla om att vi fortfarande tänker på honom.</p>
