Biden is correct, some foreign leader is  going to try the steel of Obama, but which foreign leader will it be? Will it  be Russia, Iran, China, or North Korea? None of the  above. It will be Israel. The forces of evil have already raised its ugly head. What Obama wanted to do with world diplomacy, re-establishing the credibility of the US especially in the Muslim world, Israel is making that extremely difficult.  President Bush has already blamed the victims (Gaza) and justified the perpetrators (Israel) for the violence in Gaza. That is the same as a woman being brutally rape and the judge arrest the woman and blames her for allowing the rapist to rape her. The people of Gaza are being killed with American made and American donated F-16 fighter jets, GPS-guided GBU-39 smart bombs, and Tanks.    Why is it that every time Israel raid Gaza,  Ramallah, Hebron, or Lebanon , the United States that pays?  What was Israel doing at 911? They were in Ramallah doing the same thing that they are doing in Gaza now.  It was the unbalance America foreign policy in the Middle East that caused 911 and led the US into the Iraq war. According to Bush advisor Philip Zelikow  “the IRAQ war was launched to protect Israel.” The only problem is that Americans are giving their lives and Israel politicians are laughing all the way to the bank. This unbalance policy has also caused the US to lose its credibility and positive standing in the World as well as thousands of lives.  Is America  going to allow Israeli politicians and American Zionist Lobbyists to continue to put the American people in harms way? Yes, Muslims worldwide will continue to say “no justice no peace”  Christians worldwide should also cry out and condemn the actions of Israel.  When will the US foreign policy in the Middle East be fair and balance? When are the American politicians going to say enough is enough?  Will Obama be fair and balance? Or will Obama be controlled by AIPAC and the Jewish lobby?

All  right, this “Obama lied about his association with Bill Ayres” thing has gone on ad nauseum. First, it’s a lie. Second, why can’t McCain just talk about social, economic, and foreign policy issues? He seems to not have any faith in his own political agenda.

Let’s take the Bill Ayres thing—–again. Senator Obama NEVER lied about having known Bill Ayres. He never gave an item by item list of every encounter, either happenstance or planned, that they’d had, but he never denied knowing him. So why do the conservatives keep saying that Obama lied about knowing him? And why does Sarah Palin keep saying that Obama “pals around” with terrorists? Ayres isn’t a terrorist. And Obama didn’t seek him out because he at one time was a radical. Get over it. And stop lying.

If you want to talk about Obama sitting on the same board as Ayres, you’re going to have to categorize McCain and his supporters as terrorists, too. The board was for the Annenberg Foundation, which was established by Walter Annenberg, who was a Republican and whose widow is a contributor to the McCain campaign. Oh no! Annenberg associated with terrorists, and his wife must also, and that means that McCain is a terrorist! Ridiculous.

I like the way McCain and his little helpers use the words “poor judgment” when describing Obama. It’s ironic, really, since that’s what the report on the Keating 5 said about John McCain and his involvement. Imagine that.

And if you want to continue to play the “guilt by association game” AND the “he’s been lying about it” game, check out McCain’s ties to a radical terrorist hate group, which called itself the U.S. Council for World Freedom. I haven’t heard McCain offer any detailed listing of gatherings that he had with this group; in fact, he’s been rather quiet about it. Here’s another version of the story. Stunning.

It also looks as if, as is so very often the case with conservatives who tout “marriage and family values,” McCain was unfaithful to his first wife, Carol. This story quotes the first Mrs. McCain, as well as the L.A. Times and McCain, himself. As we all know, being unfaithful to one’s wife makes one an unfit choice for President. Fascinating.

My point is that we all have skeletons, and John McCain has his share of guilt by association and personal poor judgment. I don’t necessarily think that those associations make him either a liar or the wrong choice for President. We need to stick to the issues that matter, and some past association that John McCain doesn’t want anyone to know about because it wasn’t his finest moment is not an issue that matters——at least not to me. But if the hate-mongers of the Republican Party want to dredge it all up, then I say, yes, by all means let’s get it ALL out in the open.

Remember the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal? Remember when crazy right wingers foresaw the death of the institution of marriage and all of the great and wonderful values that should go along with it? Well, then, let’s talk about slutty John McCain leaving his disfigured wife for that young, babely beer heiress, Cindy… with pictures!

Carol Shepp McCain was once a babely model herself. She posed in swimsuits and made bucketfuls of money. That is… until the day she was driving in the snow, skidded, and slammed into a telephone pole. Thankfully, modern science was able to fix her… somewhat. Carol McCain was strapped to a wheelchair that was tuned to her brain and could use blinking light signals to respond to simple questions with either one or two beeps.

During this time, wonderful husband John stood by his wife’s side… or… well… maybe not. Wonderful husband John started banging the beer heiress Cindy! Yeah, spring break! Cancun! Beer heiress!

Ahhh, what a stand up man. What a good Christian man. After all, isn’t it written in the Bible, that “Thou shalt leave thy lizard face wife when a hot, skinny, rich broad comes along?” Oh.. it’s not? I could have sworn it was. But maybe there are certain Republicans out there who like to conveniently think it is, because geez, McCain is just such an upstanding moral guy! And marriage is for moral people. Two guys getting married? DISGUSTING. But an old coot who’s going to trade in his retard wife for an endless beer supply?? MAKE HIM PRESIDENT.

UPDATE: Afterwards Katie Couric asked Snark Palin if she really wants to make such a comment given McCain’s age. And with a straight face Palin said this was NOT a swipe at Biden’s age. She actually said there was nothing negative behind it. (B*tch). She was merely contrasting his experience with her fresh new face and new ideas so voters have a choice what they want for the next 4 years. (A Republican who smears your opponent, then denies it. And is clueless about the economy and foreign policy. Will someone tell me exactly how that’s new and different from the guy who’s been running things for 8 years?)

Yesterday at a rally, Sarah Palin said about the upcoming debate with Joe Biden:

“I’m looking forward to meeting him, too,’’ she said. “I’ve never met him before, but I’ve been hearing about his Senate speeches since I was in, like, second grade.’’

It got a big laugh. Even from Cindy McCain standing behind her.

Does Sarah REALLY want to play the age card? When her man is older AND the head of the ticket? AND has had repeated bouts with malignant melanoma? AND refuses to release his medical records to he public?

In turn, I think Biden should say:

“Well, Palin probably doesn’t remember when she was about 5 years old how McCain screwed around on his first wife and dumped her because she had lost her beauty pageant looks. Hopefully Sarah won’t lose hers in the next five weeks.”

After her crack about Biden’s age, Palin then took ANOTHER jab at him:

“I have to admit, though, he’s a great debater, and he looks pretty doggone confident, like he’s sure he’s going to win,’’ Ms. Palin, 44, said of Mr. Biden, 65. “But then again, this is the same Senator Biden who said the other day that University of Delaware would trounce the Ohio State Buckeyes. Wrong!”

I think Biden should respond in turn:

“At least I’m smarter than a second-grader.”

But he has far more class than she does to engage in such lowball comments.

But I like what Fareed Zakaria had to say about Palin when being interviewed by Wolf Blitzer:

“…It’s not that she doesn’t know the right answer. It’s that she clearly does not understand the question. This is way beyond anything we have ever seen from a national candidate.”

And in his Newsweek article he wrote:

“Can we now admit the obvious? Sarah Palin is utterly unqualified to be vice president… she has never spent a day thinking about any important national or international issue, and this is a hell of a time to start… In these times, for John McCain to have chosen this person to be his running mate is fundamentally irresponsible. McCain says that he always puts country first. In this important case, it is simply not true.”

Isn’t that Bristol standing behind Sarah? Wonder who’s takin’ care of li’l Trig? Oh yeah, probably Piper or Willow.

I can’t help but wonder: Does McCain like his vice presidential pick, someone obviously chosen because she’s different, because she’s more conservative, because she can rally middle-America voters? (Though, Conservatives still don’t seem entirely pleased: Conservatives to McCain Camp, Let Palin be Palin– CNN)

He’s a gambler and a adulterer who has cheated on both of his wives, his first after returning from Vietnam to find her severely injured, and heavier, after a horrific accident. (Though, maybe that’s not such a big deal to Palin, who has recently been accused of her own affair with one of her husband’s business partners.)

She’s a Fundamentalist Christian, who may or may not be Pentecostal– a demonination that believes in speaking in tounges, who thinks the war in Iraq is a “holy war”, who thinks the world began 6,000 years ago and that humans and dinosaurs roamed the planet together. She is a family gal with a grandchild on the way, thanks to her 17-year-old, and a “special needs” infant on her hip while McCain is Pro-Choice.

He says no to earmarks, she says gimme more earmarks. He says no to invading Pakistan, she says yes. She makes fun of Biden’s age, when McCain’s older than Biden is.

The list goes on indefinitely, and, really, it’s all very confusing. Why are they partnered up again? Oh, right. Because this an election and votes are gold. But, what about after election season? Doesn’t it matter that they are oceans apart on many key issues and core values? Don’t you think it bothers McCain that he has to go behind Palin and correct her interview gaffes?

There is a story about John McCain that the media has not covered in the states and it is the story of his first family and how he betrayed them. John McCain was married and had a wife and kids and after they supported him through his captivity and he dumped them. He came home and had been having an affair with Cindy and got a lawyer with no prior knowledge of his wife and served her divorce papers. A month later he married Cindy, the rich beer baron’s daughter 18 years his junior. If a man would betray his own family how could we trust him with our country ? I have given the link below of a good detailed description of how it all went down. I am very surprised that not many people think this is important. I think it is an important way to look into McCain’s character and see what he is really made of. Does anyone else feel the same way I do ?

Carol McCain

McCain likes to illustrate his moral fiber by referring to his five years as a prisoner-of-war in Vietnam. And to demonstrate his commitment to family values, the 71-year-old former US Navy pilot pays warm tribute to his beautiful blonde wife, Cindy, with whom he has four children. But there is another Mrs. McCain who casts a ghostly shadow over the Senator’s presidential campaign. She is seldom seen and rarely written about, despite being mother to McCain’s three eldest children.

She was the woman McCain dreamed of during his long incarceration and torture in Vietnam’s infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison and the woman who faithfully stayed at home looking after the children and waiting anxiously for news. But when McCain returned to America in 1973 to a fanfare of publicity and a handshake from Richard Nixon, he discovered his wife had been disfigured in a terrible car crash three years earlier. Her car had skidded on icy roads into a telegraph pole on Christmas Eve, 1969.

Her pelvis and one arm were shattered by the impact and she suffered massive internal injuries.

When Carol was discharged from hospital after six months of life-saving surgery, the prognosis was bleak. In order to save her legs, surgeons had been forced to cut away huge sections of shattered bone, taking with it her tall, willowy figure. She was confined to a wheelchair and was forced to use a catheter. Today, she stands at just 5′ 4″ in and still walks awkwardly, with a pronounced limp. Her body is held together by screws and metal plates and, at 70, her face is worn by wrinkles that speak of decades of silent suffering.

For nearly 30 years, Carol has maintained a dignified silence about the accident, McCain and their divorce. But last week at the bungalow where she now lives at Virginia Beach, a faded seaside resort 200 miles south of Washington, she told The Mail on Sunday how McCain divorced her in 1980 and married Cindy, 18 years his junior and the heir to an Arizona brewing fortune, just one month later.

“My marriage ended because John McCain didn’t want to be 40, he wanted to be 25. You know that happens … it just does.”

In 1979 — while still married to Carol — he met Cindy at a cocktail party in Hawaii. Over the next six months he pursued her, flying around the country to see her. Then he began to push to end his marriage. Some of McCain’s acquaintances are less forgiving, however. They portray the politician as a self-centered womanizer who effectively abandoned his crippled wife to ‘play the field’. They accuse him of finally settling on Cindy, a former rodeo beauty queen, for financial reasons.

Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans’ rights, said: “I have been following John McCain’s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is — deceit.”

“When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it. Eventually he met Cindy and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy. At that point McCain just dumped Carol for something he thought was better.”

“McCain is the classic opportunist. He’s always reaching for attention and glory,” he said. “After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona. And the rest is history.”

Ross Perot, a billionaire Texas businessman, and a former presidential candidate, who paid her medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel — even by the standards of modern politics.

This just sounds exactly like him. (Even the satire piece I did on Cindy bringing home Bridget and his reaction sound spot on).

Please understand this has yet to be verified, but giving McCain’s record of telling a joke about a woman getting brutally raped by an ape and enjoying it (and having it told to a gathering with women present), I don’t think this may be off the mark.

A Telling  Thoughts Comment

Endeavours are being made to contact the actual author direct even though  authentication was verified with the original poster Gabriel Hurtado, named on the Obama site shown below. Emails have gone to the Washington corporation address of the forwarder for further information.  At this stage we have no reason to doubt the letter  based on John McCain’s record, but realise it could be a nasty hoax designed to hurt those who do not support McCain. Hopefully the next 24 hours will provide the answer. I will publish any reply.

Update 1 * 17/9 - NB. Kathy the forwarder of the letter has sent me an email reply. It is published below. I have requested her to ask her friend, Ana, apparently the actual author of the email, to contact me on this matter asap.

Update 2 * 17/9 – NB. : Phoned Washington DC.  Kathy is awaiting a reply from Ana to her email , will email me as soon as she hears something.

Update 3* 17/9 – NB. Am now advised that the author is Anasuya Dubey PsyD. Apparently Ana is a highly regarded person and a Clinical Psychologist who was operating and studying in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2005. We are trying to contact her. It is clear that whoever wrote the original piece wanted it placed in the public arena. However this is a double sided coin. It is now reasonable to expect the author if genuine, to publicly acknowledge his or her ownership of the document.Otherwise I am left with no option but to write an article stating that while the public could accept the possibility that the author now fears retribution if located, the letter could just as easily be the instrument of a well orchestrated hoax, albeit an elaborate one. If accurate it says much about the true character of the real John McCain and is further evidence of the fact that he is totally unfit to occupy the office of President of the United States. Every American needs to read this letter to appreciate how unfit McCain is for any public office, much less the Presidency! McCain is living a lie. He is a clear and present danger to the United States.

My Holiday with McCain

It was just before John McCain’s last run at the presidential nomination in 2000 that my husband and I vacationed in Turtle Island in Fiji with John McCain, Cindy, and their children, including Bridget (their adopted Bangladeshi child). It was not our intention, but it was our misfortune to be in close quarters with John McCain for almost a week since Turtle Island has a small number of bungalows and their focus on communal meals force all vacationers who are there at the same time to get to know each other intimately.

He arrived at our first group meal and started reading quotes from a pile of William Faulkner books with a forest of Post-Its sticking out of them. As an English Literature major myself, my first thought was “if he likes this so much, why hasn’t he memorized any of this yet?”  I soon realized that McCain actually thought we had come on vacation to be a volunteer audience for his “readings” which then became a regular part of each meal.  Out of politeness, none of the vacationers initially protested at this intrusion into their blissful holiday, but people’s buttons definitely got pushed as the readings continued day after day.

Unfortunately this was not his only contribution to our mealtime entertainment.  He waxed on during one meal about how Indo-Chine women had the best figures and that our American corn-fed women just couldn’t meet up to this standard.  He also made it a point that all of us should stop Cindy from having dessert as her weight was too high and made a few comments to Amy, the 25 year old wife of the honeymooning couple from Nebraska that she should eat less as she needed to lose weight. McCain’s appreciation of the beauty of Asian women was so great that David the American economist had to move his Thai wife to the other side of the table from McCain as McCain kept aggressively flirting with and touching her.

Needless to say I was irritated at his large ego, and his rude behavior towards his wife and other women, but decided he must have some redeeming qualities as he had adopted a handicapped child from Bangladesh .  I asked him about this one day and his response was shocking -”Oh, that was Cindy’s idea – I didn’t have anything to do with it.  She just went and adopted this thing without even asking me.  You can’t imagine how people stare when I wheel this ugly, black thing around in a shopping cart in Arizona .  No, it wasn’t my idea at all.”

I actively avoided McCain after that, but unfortunately one day he engaged me in a political discussion which soon got us on the topic of the active US bombing of Iraq at that time.  I was shocked when he said “if I was in charge, I would nuke Iraq to teach them a lesson”.  Given McCain’s personal experience with the horrors of war I had expected a more balanced point of view.  I commented on the tragic consequences of the nuclear attacks on Japan during WWII – but no, he was not to be dissuaded.  He went on to say that if it was up to him he would have dropped many more nuclear bombs on Japan .  I rapidly extricated myself from this conversation as I could tell that his experience being tortured as a POW didn’t seem to have mellowed out his perspective but rather had made him more aggressive, and vengeful towards the world.

My final encounter with McCain was on the morning that he was leaving Turtle Island .  Amy and I were happily eating pancakes when McCain arrived and told Amy that she shouldn’t be having pancakes because she needed to lose weight.  Amy burst into tears at this abusive comment.  I felt fiercely protective of Amy and immediately turned to McCain and told him to leave her alone.  He became very angry and abusive towards me, and said “don’t you know who I am” and I looked him in the face and said “yes, you are the biggest asshole I have ever met” and headed back to my cabin.  I am happy to say that later that day when I arrived at lunch I was given a standing ovation by all the guests for having stood up to McCain’s bullying.

Although I have shared my McCain story informally with friends, this is the first time I am making this public.  I almost did so in 2000, when McCain first announced his bid for the Republican nomination but it soon became apparent that George Bush was the shoo-in candidate and so I did not act then.  However, now that there is a very real possibility that McCain could be elected as our next president, I feel it is my duty as an American citizen to share this story. I can’t imagine a more scary outcome for America than that this abusive, aggressive man should lead our nation.  I have observed him in intimate surroundings as he really is, not how the media portrays him to be.  If his attitudes toward women, and his treatment of his own family are even a small indicator of his real personality, then I shudder to think what will happen to America were he to be elected as our President.

   The dates in the letter don’t match up. How can they have been discussing the Iraq bombing before the 2000 election.

   It’s a smear. And I’m an Obama supporter. This is the kind of stuff we are fighting against.

3. The letter looks like an obvious smear with its blatant attack on McCain – however, the Clinton Administration bombed Iraq almost daily for 8 years before Bush took office in 2000, so the years do match up if Mr. Huntington was counting on discrediting the letter for that reason.

Perhaps the amount of deception and concealment inside the McCain marriage isn’t all that unusual, but it’s her attempt to repackage it as a sequence of charming campaign-trail anecdotes that gives this piece its undertone of desolation. There’s the now famous adoption story, which, as Ezra Klein notes, is rather strange when you look at it closely: Cindy decided to add a new member to the family but didn’t consult John at all. There’s the fact that they both lied to each other about their ages until after their marriage announcement was published in the newspaper.    John McCain is one of only a few Senators to earn a Zero percent lifetime rating from Planned Parenthood’s Action Fund, and he only scored that high because the organization doesn’t have a lower rating….

   Let’s look at his record:

   He voted against requiring health care plans to cover birth control (3/22/03).

   He voted against comprehensive, medically accurate sex education (7/25/06).

   He voted against international family planning funding (3/14/96).

   He voted against funding to prevent teen and unintended pregnancies (3/17/05).

   He voted against public education for emergency contraception (3/17/05).

   And he voted against restoring Medicaid funding that could be used for family planning for low-income women (3/17/05).

   NPR reported (2/2/08) that, “Many Republican voters seem to believe, incorrectly, that the current Republican front-runner, Arizona Senator John McCain, supports abortion rights.”

   John McCain wants us to believe that he’s a moderate who supports improving the health of women in the United States, but in fact he’s among the most extreme members of Congress who voted against common sense measures on family planning, sex education and access to basic healthcare.

6. Enough is enough, John! This is not the politics that Barack Obama practices, supports or defends. The path to election victory in November is to stay focused on the real issues while helping undecided voters to accept and vote for the America that an Obama Presidency will create! If all we talk about is hate, we create more hate! If all we do is tear down all, especially our opponents, we tear down ourselves! The Obama campaign is focused on discussing and pointing out the differences between Obama’s plans and past voting record and that of McCain! Fear and hate mongering on our part only helps feed the forces against an Obama victory! Let’s talk about the positive reasons we should support Senator Obama, and leave the mudslinging to the other side. The voters who will decide this election are smart enough to see through the McCain tactics and record! Additionally, spending time on attacking Palin is neither time or energy well spent! Stay on the Obama message! Let Obama and Biden attack as they choose! Palin, despite all her views, is irrelavant, and will remain so if we keep our eyes, ears, and voices focused on the prize! Palin will only bring the voters that Obama would never win over! So, again, let’s focus our energies on the positive energy and results that an Obama/Biden Adminsitration will bring not only to America, but also all global citizens!!! 12. This story is not a hoax. As I come across blogs questioning the veracity of this account, I submit the entry that follows. So apologies if you read this again… I have known Ana (the author) for 13 years and I know her to be intelligent, principled and unfailingly honest.

    She shared her Turtle Island experience with me immediately after it happened. The details of her account are disconcerting and I fully recognize that they are difficult to believe. However, I trust that her account is truthful and considered. I believe her. I know that she is fully aware of the maelstrom that this will cause and the attention that is coming her way, and she is brave for her willingness to share her story and disclose her name. Would you do the same?

    She has friends and family members who have known of her Turtle Island story for years. And, as her account reveals, there were others at Turtle Island who witnessed McCain’s behavior. Any one of us could have come forward with this story, but she took a deep breath and did so. The others who witnessed McCain’s behavior at Turtle Island know the risks involved in coming forward, and they have so far chosen to avoid those risks. Fair enough. Readers may choose to disregard this account, or they may choose to believe it. But I can vouch for the author and her integrity.

I am an avid Obama supporter; however, it seems that the author, a woman Ana Dubey (pronounced “dooby”…. as in “smokin’ a dooby”?), but the article was written from the perspective of the husband of a woman named “Amy”…. thus making me more than skeptical. Am I misreading the article? If not, am I the only one to notice this? Somebody please enlighten me.

18. I would like to make a few points here. Let’s look at what we know for sure, and see where this fits in. First, we know that John McCain has gone on swearing tirades against reporters. You can watch some of them yourself on youtube. Secondly, we know that John McCain has had at least one extramarital affair. Thirdly, we have read about Bridget McCain referred to as Cindy Mccain’s adopted daughter, and we know for a fact that John McCain was not involved in the decision to adopt Bridget, and that he was shocked when he learned Cindy had brought Bridget home. Next, there is pretty overwhelming consensus on the fact that John McCain called his wife a c**t in front of at least one reporter. In terms of wanting to “nuke iraq”, we can watch video on youtube on McCain, in a flip fashion, singing “Bomb-bomb-Iran”

    We know McCain has a bad temper, and has said rude things to other members of congress. We know he reared back to punch a woman in a wheel-chair. You can watch a video on the internet (if you look hard enough) of an elderly woman (the sister of the woman in the wheel-chair who was shoved by mccain) explaining the entire story to the National Press Club.

    All of this stuff is verifiable by use of the internet.

    So let me ask, which parts of Ana’s story do not sound like the real John McCain, the man. I’m not talking about McCain the media image, I’m talking about what we know about McCain the man.

    The letter accurately profiles the real John McCain, but that is not the point. Unless ownership of the article is authenticated it fails to achieve its purpose as described in the first four lines of the final paragraph.

I almost did so in 2000, when McCain first announced his bid for the Republican nomination but it soon became apparent that George Bush was the shoo-in candidate and so I did not act then. 19. We know who wrote this story – it’s authentic – No one needs to claim ownership – The XXX is corroborating this story before deciding whether they’d like to publish or not – let’s not continue to dwell on the issue of its ownership…….

    Editor: That is not satisfactory.The unproved author of the letter has to publicly take ownership or soon be deemed a smearer and the letter a hoax. I am not interested in whether the main stream media decides to publish or not. If someone places a story into the public arena they have a reason, as the final paragraph of the letter explains. 20. I don’t think we need to be quite that impatient about it. Whether she comes public today, or next week, or next month— as long as she comes forward. Perhaps she and whatever publication are taking the time to gather as much evidence as possible to prove as much of this story as they can, BEFORE they go public with it. We all know the backlash that would take place if the story were printed, but the evidence was not gathered (such as flight itineraries, corroborating witnesses, statements on record that McCain was in Fiji the same week she claims, etc.). I think that is not only reasonable, but wise. So let’s be patient here and wait and see.

    If she does not go forward with it, those of us who are sure of its authenticity, I think, have within their right to spread the story. That’s different from a smear from our perspective, because we *know* it’s true. However, if you yourself cannot verify it, then of course, you shouldn’t spread the story around.

    In the meantime, we have to be patient. There is still a LOT of time between now and election day. And personally, I think it’s better for our nation if we focused on issues at least through the first debate.

    If this story does get published, it will spread FAST. Look how quickly news of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy got around? The problem with that was, democrats were surprised by it and were not prepared to react appropriately.

    With this story, it will be different, because I’m assuming the Obama camp has seen this story already and is digesting it.

    Do we think McCain’s people know this story is coming out? It’s hard to imagine that they don’t.

21. If and when this comes out, the best thing for Obama to do is ignore it– continue acting presidential and talking about the economy, health care, jobs, the war in iraq, etc.

    He won’t have to do anything to make sure people hear this story.

    Plus, we can’t *assume* this will have that negative an effect on McCain. I mean, I’d like to think it will– but let’s be honest, many of us liberals do not understand how voters decide on things. Maybe tons of people will rush to his defense and say, “we’ve all said things like that”, “you who have never sinned cast the first stone.”

    Look at the rumor that flew about Palin covering up her daughter’s preganancy. When that was still a rumor going around, I read dozens of people writing, “good for her to protect her daughter”.

    So, really I have no idea how other people make up their mind about the character of others. I personally think that calling your child an “ugly black thing” is abusive, sickening and evil comment. No parent should EVER say that about their child, I don’t care how bad a day they were having. And nobody should tell women who are complete strangers that they ought to watch their weight– unless they are a dietician, and the person asked for honest feedback.

22. Some have said this letter must be a fake because it refers to “bombing of Iraq” being in the news at the time, before 2000. In fact, the US bombed Iraq on many occasions in the years following the Gulf War (1991), because of Saddam’s violations of the No-Fly Zones, his firing of anti-aircraft missiles, etc. These bombings were widely reported in the news at the time.

24. It is hard to imagine this email as being an absolute true record of events seeing as how humans tend to skew and warp events they witness, no matter how many times its retold. However, there are a few things that add up in th is email about McCain.

    1) Being a POW for as long as he was and in the manner in which he stayed a POW would suggest he has a chip on his shoulder; something to prove. Post traumatic stress disorder is no joke. Very few soldiers adjust to regular life in society after hardship in war. So McCain’s foreign policy is something to be feared, especially when he stated in the Republican Convention that he will refuse to offer “AID” to any country that doesn’t like us. A very vague statement; as if the world didn’t hate us enough.

    2. McCain is far from ‘distinguished’ where it concerns physical attraction. Yet, he manages to go after thin, attractive women much younger than himself. So statements regarding his concerns about his wife’s appearance are justified to some extent.

    3. What McCain did with his ex-wife is horrible and is a situation well documented and verified. After a disfiguring accident, McCain divorced his wife and married Cindy. Obviously, because he didn’t want to be tied-down to a disfigured, ugly, woman. He thought only of himself and discarded his wife when she was of no longer use to him. This act alone, helps justify statements made about McCain’s disdain for his adopted child. Perhaps, it reminds him of how he was almost disfigured as a POW.

    IN all honesty, if you go back and look at interviews with McCain its not hard to see the type of man he is. All too often party-devotion blinds people (and I mean that on both sides!) to the truth. These people justify things in order to ensure their decision and faith in a person is correct. How many people in this world want to believe they voted a psychopath into office? No one, unless they were profiting by it.

    Just my 2 cents on the credibility issue.

25. First off, the timeline is wrong. The whole thing is set up as taking place “before John McCain’s last run at the presidential nomination in 2000″. John McCain launched his 2000 presidential campaign in 1999, on Monday, September 27. Frankly I think this whole thing is made up, but assuming the author just goofed the year, this would have been in 1999, right around the publication date of McCain’s book Faith of My Fathers on August 31, 1999.

    The dates are more troublesome. The author states that the McCains arrives with their four children, including the explicitly cited Bridget. Here’s the thing, Turtle Island is an exclusive couples only resort except for a few weeks a year which are set aside as Family Time. This year there are only about seven weeks reserved for families, four around Christmas and three in June and July. No other children are mentioned.

    The paragraph about the McCain’s daughter Bridget was what really offended me. First, I do not believe McCain a) ever said any of that and b) ever pushed a shopping cart. Second, again with the timing, Bridget would have been 8 or 9 years old in 1999-2000. Long, long past being “pushed around in a shopping cart.” As McCain himself said, regarding people who attacked his daughter Bridget, “I believe that there is a special place in hell for people like those.”

    In 1999, there was a US led bombing campaign on targets in the northern Iraqi no-fly zone during 1999. I’d forgotten we were actively bombing at that time.

    “Indo-Chine women.” Really…

    I do not believe the attributed author, Kathy Sreedhar wrote this. Mrs. Sreedhar is the director of the The Unitarian Universalist Holdeen India Program (UUHIP). I emailed her asking about this, hopefully she’ll reply. I couldn’t find any online biography which would corroborate details of the story, but she did give Barack Obama $250 in June 2007. Her contact info was included with the message, I omitted that even though it’s readily available online.

    If I’m reading this Harvard Class of 1955 page correctly, Kathy Sreedhar is a little old to be referring to herself as “an English Literature major.” I would think several decades working with poverty and caste discrimination in India might give her a different reference point. To me, it also seems somewhat doubtful such a person would choose Turtle Island as a vacation spot, but that’s probably projection on my part. Of her writings which I could find, she seems to have a different sense of pacing than the author of this piece.

    At very least, this doesn’t seem to be plagiarized. I searched on many, many different combinations of key ideas and nothing came up in Google.

    What amuses and amazes me is this: Yes, we all now know how *abominable* his “treatment” of Carol (his first wife) was. It is indeed well-documented. Furthermore, McCain admits to such reprehensible behavior, and passes it off with “I was selfish and cruel, etc etc.” Yes, John McCain, so we’ve gathered. You did leave out morally repugnant, an irony not lost on me, who thinks this is a riot, based on the GOP’s stance on “morals” and “family values.”

    But did you REALLY think that simply saying “Gee, that sure was wrong of me” fixed or changed anything? Hardly. I mean, maybe, just *maybe*…if you were John Doe from Anywhere, USA, you could say that, and it would pass. (Well, sort of. People would still think you’re swinish scum, but hey, you wouldn’t be running for office either.)

    But such skeletons in a candidate’s closet? Surely you jest; anyone remember Gary Hart? And the last bit: How in the hell does the former Mrs. McCain still support him after all that?! They say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned; I’m guessing that the doctors removed her scorning gland during surgery. But that’s just how I see it.

28. I am pretty sure that “Bobo” is someone from the McCain campaign. That’s all a pretty well thought out attempt to rebut the story. However, Bobo has several problems in his argument.

    1. Kathy Sreedhar is not the author of the story. I have the author’s name, and that’s not it . Kathy is just someone who passed the message on who verfied the author’s reliability.

    2. Just because there are only a few weeks a year set aside for family time in Fiji (how does Bobo know this, becuase Bobo asked McCain) doesn’t mean that that’s not when they were there? They could have very well be there during family time in June or July. No the author doesn’t mention any other children, why would she? Just because she doesn’t mention any children doesn’t mean there weren’t other children there.

    3. Only a McCain operative would have researched how much money Ms. Sreedhar gave to Obama. It’s irrelevant because Sreedhar didn’t write this story and was not in Fiji. Secondly, if the events of this story happened to me, you can bet I would have given more than $250 to Barack Obama!

    4. The part about the shopping cart? McCain didn’t say, “I just pushed her in a shopping cart this summer”. He could have been referring to when they first brought the child home, and how embarassed he felt! whether or not McCain would actually shop in a grocery store is another story– but it doesn’t matter. He was saying it to be “funny” and to explain how ashamed he was of his own daughter.

However, what the author meant was “some time before mccain’s 2000 presidential campaign”. to me, that 1999, presumably june or july during family time at turtle island.

31. Also, I have been doing some research on Turtle Island. Each child that vacations at turtle during “family time” is assigned to a nanny or a “bula buddy”– the children basically have baby-sitters so the adults can enjoy themselves. that’s why our author, ana, would not have been seeing children everywhere during her stay. her interactions with mccain very likely would have taken place without the children present.

    I don’t see any way this story could have been fabricated. We can be almost 100% certain that Ms. Dubey vacationed at Turtle Island with McCain. There is no reason to doubt that.

    The particulars of McCain’s behavior? That is still up for debate, although I personally have reason to believe the account is truthful.

32. So, I am reading a book about McCain called “Man of the People: The Life of John McCain,” by Paul Alexander (as part of my research to verify Dubey’s story). Page: 187 reads:

    “Officially the committee was established on December 30th, 1998, when aides went to the Federal Election Commission in Washington and filed papers that made him the first Republican to declare his intention of running for President in 2000. McCain could not have been more unavailable for comment on the filing of his papers; he AND HIS FAMILY were on vacation in FIJI.”

    I don’t know about that year, but this year, Family Time at Turtle is December 13th-January 11th. It completely matches up with the account in the book. So when the McCains were in Fiji, they very well could have been at family time at Turtle Island Resort!

    Wow, this is electrifying, everything so far is checking out.

    Also, go to http://www.Turtlefiji.com. Go through the website and you can verify through photos the communal style dining that Dubey describes. You can also see that the food looks pretty good, although it doesn’t specifically mention pancakes.

    Does anyone else still really believe that this story is a complete hoax?

    Rove still has an axe to grind with McCain. If McCain talked about Bridget that way in Fiji, he’s done it before. And if that’s the case, Karl Rove probably knows about it. And he’s hinting at something here that he knows is a sore point between the McCains (most people are upset when their spouses bring home a new purchase over $100, much less a baby. Can you imagine bringing home a baby without discussing it first with your spouse? Then again, on the McCain-Palin ticket, having babies is a private matter– even within one’s immediate family.

35. I canted the turtle island resort in Fiji– they will not be able to respond as to whether the McCains have vacationed there. However, they did state “we have many famous guests”; but want to maintain their privacy (explaining why none of their staff would be willing to corroborate the story with any reporters).

    Not to mention the vacations are at least $15,000 a pop, and I doubt they are interested in losing the McCains’ business, or any other wealthy clients who want their presence there kept private.

36. I’m totally not in to politics and I believe all candidates are devious and actors to some extent. That being said, I received a letter from a distant cousin who heard Ana tell the account of the Fiji Island vacation two years ago. She was given “the letter” recently and can vouch that she knows Ana told her the same story 2 years ago. She gave me permission to copy and send you her paragraph she sent her relatives as she forwarded “the letter” account of the vacation at Fiji Island. Here it is:

    I don’t forward political ‘stories’ usually, but I have first hand knowledge of this one. It is written by an Indian woman named Ana, who lives in San Francisco. She has been a good friend of my niece since childhood. Ana’s dad is an Indian diplomat, once ambassador to Peru, (Brinda is Ana’s mom, -a good friend of my sister who is married to an Indian and lives in Delhi). So Ana is world traveled and very well educated. I was visiting my niece (a Dr. at Santa Clara Valley Hospital) one time a couple of years ago, and Ana and her husband came to visit, and I heard this story directly from her at that time. I had thought of it many times recently, wishing I could remember the details better. Then here, lo and behold, my brother-in-law has sent it to me in writing! So it is absolutely legitimate and real. The story speaks for itself.

Thanks to Lois for putting me on to this blog site which I had not seen prior to forwarding Ana’s story to some friends, one of whom was my second cousin who is Lois’s dad, who forwarded it to her. I’m amazed at the buzz about this story which was, indeed, written by Ana Dubey. I understand the scepticism –of course if you didn’t know what I do you’d be skeptical. But rather than repeat what I said that Lois has forwarded to you, I’ll just say that it is real, Ana is real, and I was one of those people she told the story to in the last few years. I was visiting my niece, in the S.F. Bay Area. Ana and her husband came to visit one evening. At that time it just seemed to be an icky story of an egotistical and unpleasant politician from another state exhibiting a tendency toward psychological abuse that makes one cringe at a real life portrayal of the ‘ugly American’.
    But in recent months it has kept coming back to my mind. I didn’t know Ana had put it in writing until my brother-in-law sent the written account to me a couple of days ago. The forward included a note from Ana’s mother who sent it to him. She has been a long time friend of he and my sister.
    So, am I real or just cooking up a story? I’m a 71 yr. old woman with white hair whose ancestry goes back to the 1600s and 1700s in America. I spend most of my time doing volunteer work that is not political (CASA, Historic Preservation and archival work, and UU Church). League of Women Voters is about as close to politically active as I get and my comfort zone is Leagues non-partisan appproach to decision making on issues. I’ll admit to supporting Obama, partly because I believe he is not only incredibly bright, but has an international sensitivity and savvy, and an inherent decentness and caring for people in their life struggles. I believe Ana’s story is abundantly telling about the other candidate.

38. I located a New York Times article that verifies that McCain actually took the Fiji vacation in 1999 as referenced in the email story.

    The Jan 3, 1999 article says, “Back home in Phoenix after a Fiji vacation, the usually unequivocal Republican equivocated about what should happen to Mr. Clinton.”

39. Further research indicates that Mr. Sushil Dubey was the Ambassador of India to Peru (referenced in the McCain story) from April 1983 – July 1986. However, I was not able to check if he was Anasuya’s father.

The article verifies that Bainimarama’s family members were present. It is reasonable to assume, therefore, that McCain’s family members were also welcomed to the exclusive resort.

    All this points to near certain verification that Anasuya Dubey was on this vacation with McCain. I can’t believe there isn’t some media outlet that wouldn’t run this story, even without a corroborating account.

45. One small detail – where the author says that McCain states that ‘if it was up to him he would have dropped many more nuclear bombs on Japan.’ That is simply impossible. We had only two nuclear weapons at the time, and McCain, as a graduate of a military academy, would certainly have known that.

    The letter is a hoax. There’s just NO way even the casual student of WWII would not have known such an important fact.

46. Interesting. I googled this person. While it is SUPPOSED to be a doctor, I managed to turn up the same name on a 1996 document. While finding a “john smith” would not be unusual, this name, ANASUYA DUBEY would seem to be…..well pretty unusual.

    This same person is credited with helping (as a member of the bar) with a paper on employment practices for gay and les bian attorneys.

    page 3 states “We would also like to thank Anasuya Dubey and Elizabeth Tam of the Bar Association,who have provided valuable assistance to the Committee throughout this endeavor”

    There is another Anasuya Duby in Hawaii, who is in the culinary arts. But that’s not the author of this particular piece.

50. Fred – McCain graduated at the bottom of his class at Annapolis – about 5 notches up from it. He’s no student. Not a student of anything but surviving whatever situation he’s in. He’s a loose cannon, possibly mentally unstable from the torture he experienced in ‘Nam. There are many high-functioning yet deranged people alive in politics. The community around them insulates their truth from being revealed. We will see his personality show up in the staff he has around him and his campaign. Note how the McCain/RNC campaign has moved into the Palin “Troopergate” investigation. We are in deeper trouble if this Republican ticket is elected and the economy continues to tank.

51. Makalani – you obviously want to believe this letter. You are diagnosing a man you probably have never met, crediting him with being high-functioning on one hand, and deranged on the other as suits your purposes. Does that say more about McCain – or you?

    As far as handlers, I believe Obama’s are probably as experienced as McCain’s. But McCain does have a long record that includes reaching across the aisle. Are you saying the Democrats who supported his efforts supported a ‘loose cannon’? Perhaps some of his ‘high functioning’ is useful?

    I will agree with ‘high functioning’. But isn’t that what we want? Perhaps you could illuminate what Obama’s contributions have been anywhere he has been. Other than running for office, what has he accomplished? Is his ‘high functioning’ limited only to advancing himself?

    As far as I can see, this letter is a fraud. It puts the people circulating it lower than the Swift Boaters. They at least stood up in front of the cameras to make their case.

    I am open to any reasonable argument. If you have one to make, that’s fine. I would love to hear it.

Even though the election has been going on for at least two years, it wasn’t until recently that the men seemed to step aside and all the women took center stage. Michelle, Hillary, Sarah–we’ve heard a lot about them, sometimes more than we could take.

This article isn’t about any of them. It’s about a woman we hardly hear about, and you may not even know her. She’s not famous in any traditional way. She was born in Pennsylvania in the late 1930s, and grew into a tall, willowy swimsuit model. When she was just 21, she married a graduate of the Naval Academy, who became a pilot. They had two children, but it was the 1950s, and Naval pilots cut a dashing figure. Infidelity was the listed reason for their divorce in 1964.

This young woman then fell in love again—with a classmate of her first husband. Eventually she married again, and her husband adopted her two children. This husband, too, was a navy pilot. He was from Alexandria, Virginia, and his high school yearbook gave him this description: “His magnetic personality has won for him many life-long friends. But as magnets also must repel, some have found him hard to get along with.”

The couple had a daughter, but the Viet Nam war gave them little time to spend together. The husband volunteered, was stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin, and flew 22 successful missions as a bomber pilot. On his 23 mission he was shot down and taken as a prisoner of war by the North Vietnamese in 1967.

His wife lived the terrible life of a military wife with a missing husband. The military never knows how to treat dependents–they aren’t really part of the military, yet they can’t be ignored. She stayed in Florida, working with POW/MIA organizations. She never lost hope. She never lost focus on raising the children.

In the winter of 1969, she took the children to spend Christmas with her parents in Pennsylvania. On Christmas Eve she went to deliver Christmas presents to her friends. It was snowing. She was alone in her car when it skidded and struck a utility pole.  She was thrown through the windshield of her car, where she lay, undiscovered with two broken legs, a broken pelvis, a ruptured spleen and a broken arm.  She was finally discovered, and would spend months in the hospital. Her doctors told her she would never walk again. She underwent 23 surgeries in the next two years that left her four inches shorter. She struggled to learn how to walk.

She also refused to have the military get word to her captive husband. ‘He’s got enough problems, I don’t want to tell him.’ She healed slowly. She would be disfigured for the rest of her life. But she never stopped struggling, first to live, then to get out of a wheel chair and walk. Her determination worked.

In 1973 her husband returned home. The terrible years should have been over. But they were just starting for a military wife who had undergone the worst of trials anyone should endure. Her husband, whose arms were so damaged he could not raise them above his shoulders, told friends he no longer found his wife attractive. She had gained weight while in and out of the hospital. But they remained together. She got a job as the head of the White House Visitor’s Office and became an event planner.

In April, 1979, while on business in Hawaii, the 42-year old husband met a 24-year old woman at a party. The young woman was four years older than his oldest son. But the husband fell in love. He wanted to marry the 24-year old who was the daughter of a very wealthy beer distributor. Court records show that he secured a marriage license in March, 1980, while still legally married to his first wife. His divorce became final in April, 1980, and five weeks later, he married his much younger bride.

She wasn’t the first woman to be dumped for someone young enough to be her husband’s daughter. She wasn’t the only VietNam-era wife whose husband wanted to make up for lost time, preferably with someone young and without a limp. But it seems a lot to wait for someone for five years, to nearly die, to raise three children on her own, only to be set aside for someone 18 years younger and far wealthier.

Yet, his first wife refuses to disparage him publicly. After the divorce, she stayed in Alexandria, VA for a while. He moved to Arizona, the home of his new wife, and began a political career. This unknown woman of the 2008 election season is Carol McCain, the first wife of John McCain. You don’t hear much about her. She doesn’t give interviews. Now, at 70, she still refuses to discuss her marriage or tell tales about her ex-husband. All things considered, I find her story far more compelling than much of the froth the women of this election season have stirred up.

Most people know that Cindy McCain is John’s second wife, but the details surrounding his first marriage have been glaringly absent from the Republican nominee’s bio.

Carol McCain waited patiently in the U.S. while McCain was imprisoned for five years in Vietnam, raising their three children and suffering a car accident that left her terribly disfigured. After suffering through 23 surgeries that left her unable to walk, Carol began gaining weight.

Doctors wanted to get word of Carol’s injuries to her imprisoned husband, but she resisted because she thought he had enough problems already. When John was released and returned home, friends say he was appalled by her weight gain. Although their marriage would last another six years, he began persuing Cindy six months before they divorced and married her only one month later.

Dave Lindorff of CommonDreams.org offers the following:

Oddly missing from this warm, feel-good picture, however, was a single mention of McCain’s first wife Carol Shepp-the one who stood by him, raising their three kids, through his trying five years in a Vietnamese prison, only to be dumped upon his heroic return for a younger woman, despite, or because of, her having suffered permanent disabling and disfiguring injuries in an auto accident during his absence.

Now I’m not faulting McCain for leaving his wife for a younger, richer woman. Who knows what the relationship was like at the time. Maybe Shepp wanted him out of her life by the time he started slipping off to date beer heiress Cindy Lou Hensley. But if McCain and his campaign staff wanted to make him a poster child for “family values,” they should have had the basic integrity to explain that he didn’t always consider marriage a binding covenant, for better or worse, richer or poorer, and in sickness or in health. McCain’s party, and his fundamentalist Christian backers, are always attacking efforts by gay Americans to win the right to marry by saying that marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman, but clearly, with over half of all those marriages between a man and a woman ending in divorce, it’s not all that sacred, and McCain is living testament to that hypocrisy.

With the election just a day away, people are getting anxious.  I have a lot of confidence in Obama, but what will happen if McCain becomes the next President of the United States?

Well, for one thing, Laura Bush will be replaced by Cindy McCain.  I didn’t think the Stepford Wife thing could go any further.

Don’t get me wrong, Mrs. McCain has a fair amount of accomplishments hidden under her brightly colored pantsuits.  She is a philanthropist, most notably through her founding of the American Voluntary Medical Team, which sends people out to areas hurt by disasters or war.  After receiving a master’s degree in special education, she even turned down a role in her father’s company in order to work with mentally challenged kids.  Even though that lasted for only one year, she was an important part of developing a new approach to movement therapy for severely disabled children.  She also has four children of her own, one of whom was adopted from Bangladesh, in addition to the three kids from John’s first marriage.  Still, my mother raised four children on her own while running a home daycare; and this was without a cushion of cash or prescription drugs to fall back on.  Cindy’s addiction to Percocet and Vicodin is certainly not something to be taken lightly, but addiction can get the best of any of us.  Her actions, however, led to the demise of the American Voluntary Medical Team after it was discovered that she was illegally obtaining prescriptions by using the names of its employees without their knowledge.  While I respect her for overcoming her addiction, I feel that even her “nonprofit” organizations are very profitable to her in ways that most people wouldn’t even expect.  If all I had to do was pay restitution with my father’s money to get off of drug charges, I would fraudulently obtain some sedatives myself.

Cindy McCain is one woman I know I wouldn’t be able to stand if I came face to face with her.  Born Cindy Lou Hensley, she’s a rich girl who has benefited profusely off of family money (beer from Anheuser-Busch is completely ruined for me) — not to mention the fact that she uses this money to fund her husband’s political campaigns.  She has funds from a $300 million dollar company, and she is bitching about Obama’s campaign money?  And if you thought John McCain’s seven houses were bad, his wife owns ten, in addition to parts of 3 office complexes.  I thought women married older men for money — so why did 25 year-old Cindy go for McCain at 42?  I mean he is 72 now…an old 72.  Not to mention he already had children and, oh yeah, a wife.  During his courtship with Cindy, John pushed for a divorce from his wife Carol McCain. He remarried a month after their divorce was finalized.  While her husband went on with his political life, Cindy followed him to Washington — where she was ostracized because of Carol McCain’s popularity and spent her time writing over 4000 Christmas cards in 1983.

Writing Christmas cards is a pain in the ass, and I am sure I will end up doing it when I am a “wife.”  But I can hardly stomach the fact that this is a fact listed in Cindy McCain’s life story.  I firmly believe that a First Lady should be a woman who uses her intelligence for more than domestic niceties.  The contrast could not be any more apparent — Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama both act like ladies, but they are also able to articulately voice their opinions.  Cindy McCain can voice her opinions too, but she sounds less like an intelligent woman and more like that bitchy girl from high school.  Still, the Republican Party praises her for “her elegance at coffee shops and other small campaign settings, where she frequently refers to her children, carpooling, and charity work.”  I agree that raising children is more than a career, but I don’t think women fully convey their intelligence by talking about chauffering their children around.  Talk about your children, talk about teaching kids with special needs, but please, don’t relive every detail of getting your kids and their friends to pee-wee football practice.  Cindy herself emphasizes the idea that she would be a “traditional” First Lady — which seems to mean she will not stick her nose into her husband’s business…you know, his business of governing the country.

I can’t imagine that John was a young and lively man when he met Cindy.  As hard as it is to believe, this ice queen was the epitome of the vivacious girl-next-door in her younger years, and she definitely started early.  At the age of 14, she was named the Junior Rodeo Queen of Arizona, followed up by the even better accomplishment of being voted “Best Dressed” at her affluent Phoenix high school — well, at least now we know how she came to be so diluted in her fashion sense.  At college in California she was a cheerleader as well as a sorority sister (is anyone else seeing the stereotype come to life?).  She was not as dumb as one might think, however, and she was heavily involved with Charles Keating’s financial affairs.  Cindy and her father invested nearly $400,000 in a project with Keating, and she also acted as a bookkeeper — although not a very good one, seeing as how she simply “couldn’t find” several receipts when shit hit the fan in the Keating scandal.

So all in all, I am obviously not impressed with Mrs. McCain, volume 2.  She may have accomplishments, but like Sarah Palin, I can only wonder where her ambition comes from and, more importantly, where this ambition is headed.  Everyone makes mistakes, but her demeanor serves only to emphasize the idea that she doesn’t seem to learn from them…just as with her anger towards the Obama campaign, her problems and misdeeds seem to be on everyone else’s shoulders.

For once, the Daily Mail impresses:

And yet, had events turned out differently, it would be she, rather than Cindy, who would be vying to be First Lady. She is McCain’s first wife, Carol, who was a famous beauty and a successful swimwear model when they married in 1965.

She was the woman McCain dreamed of during his long incarceration and torture in Vietnam’s infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison and the woman who faithfully stayed at home looking after the children and waiting anxiously for news.

But when McCain returned to America in 1973 to a fanfare of publicity and a handshake from Richard Nixon, he discovered his wife had been disfigured in a terrible car crash three years earlier. Her car had skidded on icy roads into a telegraph pole on Christmas Eve, 1969. Her pelvis and one arm were shattered by the impact and she suffered massive internal injuries.

When Carol was discharged from hospital after six months of life-saving surgery, the prognosis was bleak. In order to save her legs, surgeons had  been forced to cut away huge sections of shattered bone, taking with it her tall, willowy figure. She was confined to a wheelchair and was forced to use a catheter.

Through sheer hard work, Carol learned to walk again. But when John McCain came home from Vietnam, she had gained a lot of weight and bore little resemblance to her old self.

Aside from the not-so-invisible hand of Ayers in this piece, let’s review the question raised by the RNC here: The nation is “off course,” so why should we trust an “untested” candidate like Obama with guiding the U.S.S. U.S.A. through the stormy waters? Well, uh…because the Republicans have been steering the ship for the last 8 years, and ARE THE ONES WHO GOT US “OFF COURSE.” And they want to make McCain, the candidate guaranteed to keep following this incorrect bearing, the new captain of this metaphorical ship? Ah, yes: ”The Old Man and the Sea.”

And again…not hearing ANY ideas or policy discussions whatsoever from the GOP. Their entire strategy for the remainder of the campaign is apparently to not talk about their candidate, but instead create ads about leadership metaphors. If you’re really looking for a sea change, it will certainly not happen with McCain-Palin.

Canvassing in Lancaster was an eye opening experience.  Living in my NYC bubble of elitist, Jewish, frappaccino drinking liberalism I had assumed that crack pot republican conspiracy theorists were restricted to the safe confines of Youtube comments and Fox News message boards.  Turns out many of them are typing from Lancaster, PA.  

Saturday morning we headed to the Obama HQ.  Being unsure of its exact location, we followed our ears to what sounded like a political rally.  Our ears were correct, but our eyes showed us a wall sized “Country First” banner.  We quickly about faced and scuttled out of enemy territory.  I felt like the Knights of the Round Table in Monty Python’s The Holy Grail screaming “Run away!  Run away!”.

The HQ was across the street.  They had donuts and muffins, and the staff was really friendly.  We also took this awesomely dorky photo (Note how much shorter Obama is IRL):

 Then Granger and I hit the road to spread the good word.  The first house we went to was guarded by the sweetest dog ever.  Her name was Trinity, and she came right up to us and begged to be petted.  Granger predicted that anyone in possession of such a dog must be voting for Obama.  After fawning over Trinity with her owner for 5 minutes, we finally told her why we were ringing her doorbell.  She enthusiastically supported our cause.

“That was easy”, we thought, as we headed to the next house.  We rang the doorbell and were greeted by threatening barks.  An angry looking man opened the door a crack while holding back a beast of a dog who obviously wanted to maul us.  The dog could smell the stench of the Democratic party on us and he wanted us dead.

“We’re here from the Obama campaign, and we’re wondering how you’re planning to vote this election”

The dogs master said from behind a screen door, “You’ve got the wrong guy”.  We walked away, realizing it wouldn’t all be so easy.  At least now we had a completely un-scientific way of predicting a persons political leanings.  Nice dog; nice person.  Mean dog; mean person, who is also a probable Nazi.

We canvassed from 11am to 5pm.  Most of the people we spoke to were already supporting Obama.  One McCain supporter stood out in particular.  By this time we were more relaxed in our approach.  When the target came to the door Granger jumped right in with “Hi, how’d you like to talk about politics with total strangers?”

Eric joined us on his lawn.  He rattled through taxes and experience, claiming that Obama’s equals Palin’s.  I pointed out that when Palin was a sports news broadcaster, Obama was a constitutional law professor.  When Palin was a beauty pageant queen, Obama was a community organizer.  Having no cards left in his deck, he went so far as to pull out the old Fox pundit standby asking for Obama’s birth certificate.  ”Where is it?  I’ve never seen it.”  I told him I had.   Realizing internally that he completely lacked any valid arguement, he finally settled on character as the issue that most drives his voting decisions.  How anyone could vote based on character and choose McCain is beyond me.  McCain is the guy who left his crippled wife for a rich young heiress whom he met in exotic of all locations, Hawaii.  This is common knowledge.  Maybe it was so long ago that it doesn’t register as actually having happened in the brains of  accomplished denialists, but it raises serious questions about what motivates John McCain.  Here is a picture of John and Carol McCain taken shortly after he arrived back from Vietnam.  She had already been in the accident.  If you want to talk about McCain’s “character”, this guy has something to say.

Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans’ rights, said: ‘I have been following John McCain’s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is – deceit.

‘When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it.

‘Eventually he met Cindy and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy. At that point McCain just dumped Carol for something he thought was better.

‘This is a guy who makes such a big deal about his character. He has no character. He is a fake. If there was any character in that first marriage, it all belonged to Carol.’

We concluded that Eric was a closet racist.  For all his talk about how he had no problem with a black person for president, he boiled his entire vote down to character and is still choosing the guy who has none!

We left Eric to his delusions and walked back to the car.  She saw us from her car and wanted to know what we were doing (clipboards make anyone look important).  From Eric to her was like Crazy and Crazier.  Her frizzy black hair, bright pink lipstick, painted on eyebrows, and the fact that she stopped her car in the middle of a parking lot entrance to talk to us for no apparent reason were hints of her insanity.  She insisted that it didn’t matter who our next president was because the second coming is on its way and America will be in flames and she hopes that we have Jesus in our hearts.  Knowing a little something of the Born Again Christian sect, I proudly stated that we are Jewish.  She was happy to hear that.  She loves the Jewish people and she loves Israel, and she is sure that the two of us will be among the Jews who meet Jesus and are saved at the end.  Granger asked how we would know who Jesus was when we met him.  Would he look like the picture of Kenny G on the tape lying on the seat next to her?  

“Oh, I love him!” 

“Yeah”, Granger replied.  ”He really blows…that horn”.

Onwards, to an old folks home.  Instead of searching around for the 10 people listed as living at the address, we started talking to a man sitting on the porch puffing away at his pipe in the designated smoking section.  His name was Richard Vanderslice and he even showed us his ID as proof.  Richard didn’t have a lot to say, but he enjoyed listening to Granger, who had made himself at home in a wicker chair and bonded over the proper techniques of pipe smoking.  ”Yeah, I’ll probably vote for Obama”.  And so we wrote his name onto our list because he wasn’t actually a target.  When he heard that we were from New York he brought up the only thing he knew about the city.  ”Remember when them planes hit the World Trade Center?  I heard about that.”  We said our goodbyes and his attention immediately jumped from Granger to me.  ”I need a hug.”  Turned out he needed three hugs, and a kiss.  There’s nothing like a dilapidated old man in the prime of his senility to make a girl feel beautiful.

When all work was done we regrouped at Pierre’s mom’s house for dinner, where I was introduced to pasta alla puttanesca which is Italian for “whore’s pasta”.  Naturally, I loved it.  Dinner with cool friends was the perfect end to a fun yet exhausting day.  Well, it WOULD have been, but we decided to see a 10pm showing of “W”.  Granger slept through most of it.  I only nodded off intermittently.  It didn’t really matter seeing as we knew the story all too well.  The movie and the reality it’s based on have one major thing in common; they can’t end soon enough.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.  McCain’s a douche bag!

In this video CNN found out that John McCain applied for a marriage license with Cindy before he was divorced from his first wife Carol McCain. They also found that he was having an affair with Cindy for 9 months while he was married and still living with his first wife Carol McCain. Does this make the marriage between John and Cindy McCain null and void ? If John was elected would Cindy be considered the First Mistress ? What does this say for marriage and for our potential first family ?

Competing demonstrations — increasingly noisy but both so far nonviolent — over the Israeli government’s military assault on the Gaza Strip are under way in the mid-Wilshire area this evening.

A pro-Palestinian contingent is chanting and waving hand-lettered signs at Wilshire Boulevard and La Jolla Avenue, near the Israeli consulate. Across the street, a smaller group is waving Israeli flags and signs reading “Israel is doing the world’s work.”

Police are working to keep demonstrators out of the streets and to keep the rival groups from directly confronting each other. Earlier in the day and a few miles west, near the Federal Building on Wilshire, a group calling itself L.A. Jews for Peace demonstrated against the Israeli strikes in Gaza.

Biden is correct, some foreign leader is  going to try the steel of Obama, but which foreign leader will it be? Will it  be Russia, Iran, China, or North Korea? None of the  above. It will be Israel. The forces of evil have already raised its ugly head. What Obama wanted to do with world diplomacy, re-establishing the credibility of the US especially in the Muslim world, Israel is making that extremely difficult.  President Bush has already blamed the victims (Gaza) and justified the perpetrators (Israel) for the violence in Gaza. That is the same as a woman being brutally rape and the judge arrest the woman and blames her for allowing the rapist to rape her. The people of Gaza are being killed with American made and American donated F-16 fighter jets, GPS-guided GBU-39 smart bombs, and Tanks.    Why is it that every time Israel raid Gaza,  Ramallah, Hebron, or Lebanon , the United States that pays?  What was Israel doing at 911? They were in Ramallah doing the same thing that they are doing in Gaza now.  It was the unbalance America foreign policy in the Middle East that caused 911 and led the US into the Iraq war. According to Bush advisor Philip Zelikow  “the IRAQ war was launched to protect Israel.” The only problem is that Americans are giving their lives and Israel politicians are laughing all the way to the bank. This unbalance policy has also caused the US to lose its credibility and positive standing in the World as well as thousands of lives.  Is America  going to allow Israeli politicians and American Zionist Lobbyists to continue to put the American people in harms way? Yes, Muslims worldwide will continue to say “no justice no peace”  Christians worldwide should also cry out and condemn the actions of Israel.  When will the US foreign policy in the Middle East be fair and balance? When are the American politicians going to say enough is enough?  Will Obama be fair and balance? Or will Obama be controlled by AIPAC and the Jewish lobby?

       Afterwards, the family drove to cliffs east of Honolulu, where Obama, Soetoro-Ng and about 20 relatives climbed over a stonewall to the rocky ledges of Lanai Lookout to scatter Dunham’s ashes.       

       Earlier this year, AP reports, Obama left flowers at the same place, in memory of his mother.       

       Dunham, known affectionately by family and friends as “Toot,” died on Nov. 2 at the age.

Bishop Thomas Weeks has turned himself in to the police, but accusations of Weeks being gay or on the “down low” while married to Juanita Bynum are still a hot item of discussion.

I have so many feelings on this topic, I want to talk about what happened between Bishop Weeks and Juanita Bynum so much. I found it fascinating that ABC news nor Entertainment Tonight covered this yesterday. (This couple is almost like a Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker in terms of notoriety — at least in the black community.)

But anyway, my purpose here is to substantiate the accusations of Bishop Weeks being on the down low, or secretly gay.
