Not only is 8150 the average elevation in Vail, but 8150 was also the name of a nightclub that was once a local music venue institution. The Carrie Fell Gallery in Solaris, Vail happens to be the exact location where 8150 used to stand. Fell wanted to keep a part of 8150 alive and had the buckle created to commemorate the night club with the famous bouncing floor.

“Rebel Red” | 74 x 24″ | Acrylic and Oil

“Rebel Red” which is one of Carrie Fell’s newest releases, was featured in the “Killa Boots” show during the 4th of July holiday. A unique painting, both in its canvas shape and in the resin which covers the red background, Fell tells collectors and fans the inspiration behind her work.

Fell was flipping through pictures and came across a photograph of country music star, Kenny Chesney, who had board shorts and a cowboy hat on. Fell was intrigued by the snapshot, and liked the fact that his hand were in his pockets and he was shirtless; she was inspired by the laid-back cowboy look and “Rebel Red” was then created.

Carrie Fell, renowned western contemporary artist, has been painting for over twenty-five years. Fell began her career by showing her work at art fairs and has been represented by various galleries in Vail and Colorado at large. In December 2011, Fell opened her own gallery in Solaris, Vail.

Fell’s most well-known and recognizable subject matter, the ghost riders, have been evolved and developed throughout her career. The hard-charging horsemen, like Fell’s new original release, “Outta Sight” is reminiscent of her earlier works.

Fell began her career painting cowboys; throughout the years her vision has evolved and a while ago Fell introduced Native American characters into her art. These Native Americans differ from her cowboy and animal paintings in that the Native Americans in her work always have a face, whereas all other subjects do not posses this quality. Fell has been quoted saying that she felt compelled to include their faces because she feels that Native Americans are wisdom bringers, and their faces convey said wisdom.

Historically, Native Americans were wary of having their pictures taken by settlers. They felt that every time their picture was taken part of their soul was captured in the photograph; therefore pictures of Native American Chiefs are extremely rare. Fell has focused on Native American Chiefs as subjects of her Native American pieces. Each original drawing of a Chief has been multiplied and painted as an original expression; each painting is also different depending on Fell’s mood during the creation.
