After nearly three weeks of no McDonalds…I caved.  We were out of eggs and I really wanted some sort of egg thing breakfast, so with seven minutes left on the clock  I sped over to McDonalds for a #1.  I had also woken up today with a headache similar to the one I had on Thanksgiving, and I’m determined not to have any more migraines this week.  Miraculously the headache is gone after chowing on my Egg McMuffin goodness. 

I will probably feel lethargic for the rest of the day, but nothing beats those hashbrowns.  Goooooo…

Had a date last night, one more match.com guy.  This one I will call Hot Computer Nerd.  He’s hot but totally nerdy and suffers from ADD.  Oh my god it is so hard to get a straight answer out of him.  But he’s nice to look at, so I’ll probably see him again.  Obviously there’s more to the story but Cartman has taken up residency in my lap and may attack the computer thinking it’s a toy.

Before the Missus and I got Cat #1 and Cat #2, I really didn’t get cat jokes. That is, as a kid I loved reading Garfield, and I always chuckled when Cartman yelled, “No, kitty, it’s my pot pie! Bad kitty!” on South Park. But I didn’t understand the personalities of cats, all of their pecularities, that added an extra level of knowing humor to some jokes. Now, though, when I watch a Meow Mix commercial, I nod my head instead of rolling my eyes. I get it now.

I am feeling the same trigger occuring in terms of pregnancy and babies. It happened today again: I’m using pre-Thanksgiving to clean the apartment, both for my own peace of mind as well as to please the Missus. And so, when I have a lengthy physical task to do, I like to have my iPod loaded up with some brain-stimulating stuff. Therefore, I downloaded the audiobook of Randy Rausch’s The Last Lecture.

I’m a reasonable sentimental guy; I can acknowledge being touched by a story or performance. I’m also the guy who thrills in gallows humor and the classic repertoire of horrendous “dead baby” jokes. (“Why do you put a baby in a blender feet first?” “To watch the expression on its face.”) There’s always been something about the macabre, about speaking the absolutely unspeakable, that’s bumped my funny bone.

Imagine my surprise, then, as I’m listening to The Last Lecture, and Rausch recounts the story of his wife, pregnant with their first child, beginning to bleed and going into shock. She has a placenta abrupta, bleeding caused by the weakly attached placenta starting to give up prematurely. The baby’s life-support system is failing, and they’re not sure about its viability given the steroids Mrs. Rausch has had to take to stimulate its tardy lung development. Worse yet, she’s in danger from both the bleeding and the C-section now made necessary by the abrupta.

I’m listening to the whole thing, panting. That is, I’m breathing rapidly. I’ve sat down — When did I sit down? I thought I was just cleaning the kitchen! I’m listening to all this and only seeing the Missus’s face when Rausch describes his wife’s lips turning blue, only seeing my hand as he describes gripping his wife tightly. It was disorienting to a degree I’ve rarely ever felt.

Something is going active in my brain — both lower-case something and upper-case Something, I suspect. And I’m not getting quite the giggle I used to from Eddie Izzard and his baby-on-a-spike routine. Hm.

The guys over at South Park have really outdone theirselves this time just like they do each and every episode. Cartman is truely their epitome of their whole creation.  Trey Parker and Matt Stone deserve nothing but praise for the type of boundry’s that they constantly push in today’s society.

This was the last episode of the 13th season of South Park. That makes me sad. Wednesday nights will be forever emptier because of this. Well, not forever more. They’ll be better again in a few months when South Park is back.

In this episode, the boys go to the local water park, Pi Pi’s, where Kyle opts to stay out of the water indefinitely due to its incredibly high concentration of urine. Cartman, however, is disappointed for other reasons: the water park is filled with minorities.

Black people.

Mexicans.

Chinese.

He thinks he even saw some Native Americans.

This, of course, is less stated than it is sung in a beautiful song. Trey Parker is quite the composer – always has been. Indeed, Cartman predicts that the Mayans got the year of the Apocalypse wrong and that rather then 2012, it’s actually happening in 2009, since the water park has been taken over by minorities and Cartman is the “last of his kind.”

When warned that the pee content of his water park is so high that the park is on the verge of disaster, Pi Pi does nothing – to the detriment of human kind . . . well, human kind currently in attendance at his water park. With the urination of one final little girl, the water becomes 100% pee and disaster ensues. Everything goes to hell – in Cartman’s eyes, the Mayan Apocalypse.

In order to drain the pee from the park, Kyle has to hold his breath and swim through it down to an underwater release valve, but in order to do that he must first drink pee in order to avoid the bends. Since pee grosses him out so much, this is obviously a monumental task. It’s pretty hilarious listening to the other boys be honest about all the things they do related to pee that Kyle considers unacceptable:

- pee in the shower

- pee in the pool

- not wash their hands after peeing

Gross!! I’d never not wash my hands after peeing. Yeah . . . never . . .

Obviously the moment Kyle drank the pee they were all rescued, since is was discovered that the antidote to anger caused by the overexposure to pee is bananas. And yes, the part where the monkeys got angry while getting urinated on was hilarious and disgusting.

Funny enough, I loved that Kyle hated bananas so much and had to eat one after drinking the pee. Why? My wife loves most foods but HATES bananas. She finds them revolting, particularly the smell. Sometimes to be cruel when we’re at the grocery store I’ll hold a bunch of bananas behind her head and then say her name so that she turns around and finds them there. She hates that. I’m very mature.

This wasn’t a killer episode like a few of the other poignant ones this season, but it was amusing, particularly the unbearably racist sentiments that got called out and exposed for being illogical: minorities are beginning to make up the majority. Get used to it. It’s okay and that’s where things were going. We’re all immigrants – thanks White Stripes.

An interesting aside: there was a commercial for Avatar during South Park, which is interesting because last week’s episode made fun of Avatar and showed South Park being really angry that the movie was ripping off something else (I asked what that something else was but nobody knew to tell me).

Pour ceux qui ne tombent pas sur cet article par simple recherche, google et/ou moteur de recherche quelconque, vous savez que je ne porte pas une attention particulière aux fautes de grammaire ou whatever faute de français lorsque je tape quelques mots sur un sujet musical quelconque. Je tape comme ça me vient à l’esprit puis après, je lui mets un petit antidote vite fait / bien fait et that’s it, finito les remords de conscience sur la qualité de mon français écrit.

Cela dit, je crois quand même que la maitrise de la langue (dans ce cas-ci le français) est primordiale pour tout ce qui touche la communication, qu’elle soit parlée, écrite, dansé, je-sais-pas, et même plus, pour réfléchir, comprendre, apprendre, etc… C’est presque à la base de tout finalement.

Excellent texte de Foglia paru dans la presse de samedi pour enrichir mon propos avec des mots, mais surtout une pensée que je suis loin d’avoir acquis.

That’s my new word.  I learned it today watching a comercial for South Park, to which I thought, “this is brilliant… ‘craptastic.’”

It means:

craptastic (adjective) : the opposite of fantastic, expressing how phenomenally bad something is.

That movie was craptastic.

South Park Episode 12 - Harley Hatin'

Life imitates art or is it the other way round?  It turns out the “inconsiderate douche bag’s on Harley’s” are creating noise as they ride up and down the street wrecking everyone’s quite time on South Park.

It’s a protest movement in Season 13, episode 1312, where Cartman calls out a pack of bikers whose loud Harleys prove most irritating for the height challenged, truth-blurting, foul-mouthed characters. As the motorcycle noise escalates, the so-called “kids” take the matter into their own hands with graffiti and lobbying to have the dictionary definition of the term “f*g” changed to “annoying, inconsiderate Harley riders.”

There’s been plenty of Harley hatin’ on this blog comments section about raucous exhausts and loud bikes.  And regardless of your stance on the noise debate as to whether or not loud pipes do anything for safety, you’ll likely find humor (or irritation) in this episode that’s become rather controversial.  So much controversy in fact, that the New York Times has reported a gay advocacy group is protesting the episode.

Watch the 22-minute show here.  The show adds a new dimension to the anti H-D stance and I’m sure someone in the motor company is reevaluating advertisement placements.

UPDATE: 12.18.09 — Viacom has pulled down the YouTube versions of the episode under copyright issues and now the South Park site states “Due to pre-existing contractual obligations, we cannot stream this episode until 12.05.09″… It’s all about $$.  If you can’t wait then do a Google search as there are versions of it out on the internet.

Eric Cartman is the new Glenn Beck. Last night on “South Park” the chubby youngster took over morning announcements and turned them from standard bullet points into long screeds about the student class president. Turns out Eric hates her and as a result devotes all his time to creating and promoting crazy conspiracy theories about her time in office. Sound familiar?
