Remember my post about how the Vita Mix blender was pretty much the best thing on earth? Well that’s good news, because not only is the blender still the star of my mom’s kitchen, but they are having a contest called “Pitch Me” (Which I am totally going to enter, by the way.)

Yay! Overall, they’re giving away $20,000 in prizes. Hey, even if you don’t win, you could walk away with a Vita-Mix, and that’s a great prize just by itself!

I received this is an email on one of the Private Investigator Yahoo Groups that I am a member of and felt that it should be shared.

Especially if you are paying for your purchase with a credit or debit card.

CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS BEFORE LEAVING THE CASHIER’S STATION!

Especially during this “rush” time before the holidays!

CASH BACK..BEWARE.. THIS COULD HAPPEN ANYWHERE. CHECK YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE LEAVING THE CHECK STAND.I’VE SEEN PEOPLE DO JUST THAT. NOW I’LL START!PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS, KIDS, LOVED ONES.

It happened at Wal-Mart (Supercenter Store#1279, 10411 N Freeway 45, Houston, TX 77037 a month ago. I bought a bunch of stuff, over $150, & I glanced at my receipt as the cashier was handing me the bags. I saw a cash-back of $40. I told her I didn’t request a cash back & to delete it. She said I’d have to take the $40 because she couldn’t delete it. I told her to call a supervisor. Supervisor came & said I’d have to take it. I said NO! Taking the $40 would be a cash advance against my Discover & I wasn’t payinginterest on a cash advance!!!!! If they couldn’t delete it then they would have to delete the whole order. So the supervisor had the cashier delete the whole order & re-scan everything! The second time I looked at the electronic pad before I signed & a cash-back of $20 popped up. At that point I told the cashier & she deleted it. The total came out right. The cashier agreed that the electronic pad must be defective.Obviously the cashier knew the electronic pad was defective because she NEVER offered me the $40 at the beginning. Can you imagine how many people went through before me & at the end of her shift how much money she pocketed? Just to alert everyone. My co worker went to Milford, DE Wal-Mart last week. She had her items rung up by the cashier. The cashier hurried along and didn’t give her a receipt. She asked the cashier for a receipt and the cashier was annoyed and gave it to her. My coworker didn’t look at her receipt until later that night. The receipt showed that SHE DID NOT ASK FOR $20 cash back. SHE DID NOT ASK FOR CASH BACK! My co-worker called Wal-Mart who investigated but could not see the cashier pocket the money. She then called her niece who works for the bank and her niece told her this:This is a new scam going on. The cashier will key in that you asked for cash back and then hand it to her friend who is the next person in line. Please, please, please check your receipts right away when using credit or debit cards! This is NOT limited to Wal-Mart, although they are the largest retailer sothey have the most incidents.I am adding to this.My husband and I were in Wal-Mart North Salisbury and paying with credit card when my husband went to sign the credit card signer he just happen to notice there was a $20 cash back added. He told the cashier that he did not ask nor want cash back and she said this machine has been messing up and she canceled it. We really didn’t think anything of it until we read this email.I wonder how many”seniors” have been, or will be, “stung” by this one????To make matters worse …

THIS SCAM CAN BE DONE ANYWHERE, AT ANY RETAILER WHOLESALE LOCATION!!!

No he’s not in financial difficulties like Nicolas Cage.

A financially struggling young couple, Sam (Chris Hemsworth – Thor) and Leslie (Victoria Profeta) think their luck has finally taken a turn for the better when they find a briefcase full of money. But their good fortune quickly turns into a deadly game when the strange and sinister criminal Pyke Kubic (Sean Bean) appears at their doorstep looking to collect on what they found. Cash is a tumultuous, action-driven adventure through the streets of Chicago, as the threesome are pulled deeper and deeper into a desperate spiral of violence and deception – all in the name of money.

So…everyone could stand to save a few extra dollars these days. It’s just a fact of life

So…everyone could stand to save a few extra dollars these days. It’s just a fact of life: times are tough and value is the number one deciding factor in spending for the average consumer. As the holidays approach, now is the time to make sure you get more bang for your buck. There are a couple of things I’ve started doing to get the maximum return on my dollars spent.

1. Plan ahead! If you’ve got a game plan, and know what items you’re going to buy, it’s easier to strategize how to get them for less money. I keep a running “wish list” of items I want to purchase, and am always on the lookout for coupons or sales which I can apply to those items. It’s much better to be prepared to use a coupon that just, sort of pops up, than to purchase something on a whim only to find that you would’ve saved money on it .

2. Take advantage of reward programs and loyalty/membership programs offered by retailers. You can earn discounts and perks just by shopping with retailers who reward frequent shoppers!

3. Earn cash back on EVERYTHING you purchase! With Ebates.com, it’s never been easier to get FREE cash just for purchasing things you were already planning to buy. Ebates.com is a site which offers rebates on all purchases made at over 1200+ retailers. All you have to do is click through to the retailers website from ebates.com. Some offer as much as 26% back on every dollar you spend! Just shop as you normally would, you can even use coupons and free shipping offers, and Ebates will keep track of your spending and send you a Big Fat Check every quarter. Here’s how it works: retailers pay Ebates to send traffic to their websites, and Ebates is generous enough to pass a portion of the savings on to us! It’s that simple! Get 8% back at Sephora, and 10% back at Old Navy, Gap, and Piperlime! Get 3% back on all iTunes purchases, and 15% back at Restaraunt.com! The list goes on and on. What are you waiting for? Not registered with Ebates.com? Just click here and start getting your FREE cash back on all your purchases today!

The upcoming Christmas Holiday is a time for giving, but with a few smart moves you can get a little more for your money.

Reason #71 why I’m living the very best life: $aving money!

"I dunno, what are the stats on the knife again?" apocalex: I’m a huge fan of Wing C

"I dunno, what are the stats on the knife again?"

apocalex: I’m a huge fan of Wing Commander: Privateer. I thought it was a great game that rewarded time investment and was a huge open sector with dozens of systems and even more bases, planets, and mining bases. It was a totally open game, you could totally ignore the plot and still have access to everything the world had to offer. Which meant hours of taking various missions to build up enough cash to buy a Centurion fighter with Omni radar and the best there was to offer in terms of weapons, armor, and shields.

I never had the money (irony!) to buy Mechwarrior: Mercenaries, but I heard it was about the same, fun in building up a custom mech for your gameplay style. Diablo II was the pinnacle of looting of it’s time, giving the game a new purpose after the end of the story mode by finding extremely rare items the new draw of the game. Borderlands is the latest in the line of randomized loot drops and crazy amounts of money. But does money matter anymore? You could be walking around with literally 100 million dollars, but could you use that to buy kickass gear? Well, sure, on the the rare chance it appeared, it was worthwhile, and it was made for your character build.

The use of money in-game has declined since the old days. It used to actually matter – where now it goes by the wayside. There are few and far between games that give rewards in cash that can be actually useful in the game. Oblivion attempted to offer houses – but these houses were in many ways superfluous to gameplay. The only things you really needed to buy might be consumables like arrows, repair hammers, potions, but again, the game offered many avenues to totally bypass the need to spend much money at all. Alchemy, stealing, re-raiding the many caves and dens of thieves and low level monsters were all ways to make the few bucks you actually needed to progress. And with high enough faction standing, Cyrodill’s Fighter and Mage Guilds would stand empty of all but a bunch of brooms, inkwells, pickaxes.

Going back to Borderlands, the only money “sink” (to borrow from MMO lexicon) is from re-specs. And when you have several duffel bags worth of wads, ten large here and there to re-spec is nothing. The list of items to buy was even smaller, a few guns, a shield, a class mod, and grenade mod. With ammo regen mods for certain classes, the only real things to purchase are healthkits (which were on the -less side of the use-less/-ful continuum).

Take a look at some other games that have been released and you’ll see how little a role money plays. In Saints Row 2, there was a large amount of customization for your character. Could you buy a plane though? No. Could you legitimately purchase the super vehicles? No. You could upgrade them – and that was the extent of the use of money, and in the endgame stages, once again money becomes so devalued if I could, I would walk up to each person and get followers for a few hundred grand. Instead I could dress up like a hooker or clown. In the context of the game – fine, you want your own style, but are you killing all your enemies, making drugs, owning neighborhoods for the love and respect of the city? Hell no, it’s for the money, it’s for the prizes. And when you can steal or are given half of them, then money itself becomes worthless.

JRPGs handled the subject marginally well, there was armor to obtain, it was the best there was for your level and rarely if ever dropped from enemies, so you’d need a few sets of it to equip your party. In many games the balance was actually done extremely well, many times I would be able to get new armor just as my old armor started to feel ineffective, and most importantly of all, I could afford nearly all the sets I needed to fully equip my party, but it would drain my money reserves badly.

WRPGs (Western, I don’t know if this term is a convention already), love instant and constant gratification. You’re always looting bodies because there’s an off chance they’ll be carrying a “rare”, which – given the amount of grave-robbing a player does, is merely a question of patience and a luck multiplier (that can frequently be changed or raised). In Fallout 3 I was a junk collector bordering on obsessive-compulsive. There were many times I was carrying at least 20000 bottlecaps (which were weightless, but even if they weighed 1 gram, I was carrying around a few dozen pounds. Not to mention a few dozen fingers, and enough ammo to load out a battalion of soldiers. The point however is that there were items that were worth decent amounts of money, and yet still weighed nothing (ammo being the perfect example). I could collect both and freely barter with ammo to most everyone. If I open a chest and it contains a thousand dollars or some other suitably large amount, I am not as impressed as say, it contained a really nice weapon, because money is not as important as rare objects.

Fable 2 was the true “WHY WHY WHY?” of the money problem. Investing the money would give you a huge return after a while, and with the ridiculously limited number of items in the game, taking the time to build up money was a waste of time, and the mini games were awkward rhythm games. One button rhythm games without music. Boring. The “pub games” released prior the game were also a giant waste of time, unless you truly made a fortune, it mattered very little in the gameplay of the actual storyline. Making money for the sake of money was the key point here. And an achievement, which as we all know (and perhaps I might elaborate on later) does not add to gameplay.

Money truly has fallen by the wayside in many games of this generation. To be perfectly honest, even the money that one used to gain in racing sims like Forza or Grid is not as important anymore because you win cars, the money you gain from racing at the intermediate levels of Forza is almost negligible in comparison to the worth and rarity of the cars you win. In older racing sims this wasn’t the case, winning a certain championship in GT2 would net you a nice car, but it was a long race with several pit stops, for the most part I don’t understand why they took away from the aspect of the game where you built yourself up. You stood on your own two feet as it were, laying your foundation brick by brick after hours of playing a game that was fun in order to slowly build yourself up.

Instead of depending on magical fairy beans to fall from the sky and give you a new car, gun, bracers, sword, or upgrade.

You guys know what Youtube is right?

Oh yeah…you have the internet. Duh.

Did you know that there are people who make a living by posting videos to youtube?? Check out Cory (Mr. Safety) at www.youtube.com/smpfilms . This guys makes some serious cashola by posting his videos. And when I say serious, I mean twenty-thousand dollars a MONTH serious!

It all happens through YouTube’s Partner Program, where if your videos are popular enough, YouTube will add you to their list of “partners”…which basically means that they’ll put an annoying ad right in the middle of your video. Now I’m not sure if they pay you per view or per click, but either way, 20 Grand a month is pretty nice. Very nice.

Geez… why the heck am I writing a blog when I could be making millions???

Oh yeah… I don’t have a video camera.

Most of the time you need a video camera to make videos…. or so I’ve concluded.

I have noticed as of late that I often find myself in the queue at a coffee shop/grocery store/corne

I have noticed as of late that I often find myself in the queue at a coffee shop/grocery store/corner market waiting to pay for my goodies, frantically pulling out cash & coinage to pay the attendant. It’s a bit funny to me, because the ‘Life takes Visa‘ commercial frequently runs through my head during this scenario [watch it here]. In the US, cards are commonplace; you use them everywhere, and if you happen to be the token individual that still uses cash (what’s wrong with you?), you throw off everyone’s pattern. No one wants cash anymore, people don’t like to make change (not actually sure if they know how to make change anymore), and cards are quick and easy. In the UK, however, cash is ridiculously common… cards, not so much. The process of using a card here is actually a bit cumbersome as compared to the US. You can’t just swipe, PIN and go; here, you have to insert the card (with the ‘chip’), enter your PIN and wait a good 20 – 30 seconds before anything is actually approved. I swear there’s a little person inside the machine that has to call the bank and get approval before you can walk away with your morning latte. It’s a bit asinine. On top of that, loads of places are cash only [is it still 1995?] and if I do use my card, I feel like everyone behind me is scowling… how dare I use a card instead of good old cash?! Don’t I know that cash is soooo much easier?

I’ve actually become quite accustomed to using cash now. So much so that I can almost count the number of times that I’ve actually used my debit card in store. Most of the time, I use it at the cash machine or for making online purchases in pounds sterling. Definitely an oddity for me… still learning to acclimate, I guess

Also weird — 1p & 2p coins. I understand having a £1 and £2 coin, but 1 pence versus 2 pence?? What is the point of a 2p? Long ago, we discovered the uselessness of $2 bills… I can’t imagine a place where we would use a coin that was the equivalent of 2 pennies! I’m sure that material could better be used elsewhere. Jewelry, perhaps.

How To Speed Level Up In The Farm Town Game Tips for the Farm Town Game Farm Town is rapidly becomin

How To Speed Level Up In The Farm Town Game

Tips for the Farm Town Game

Farm Town is rapidly becoming a social networking gaming sensation, and there are plenty of reasons for this. With so many options for game play, Farm Town is a pass time that never gets old. However, it also means that you can fall behind if you are not careful. You will want to move up the levels correctly and as fast as possible.

Getting Ahead

On the surface, Farm Town is not hard to play, but there are a few tips and tricks you may want to try to help you level up quickly. The higher the level you reach, the more options will be available to you in every aspect of game play, so it’s a good idea to make a point early of applying your energy to accumulating experience points so that you can reach those higher levels more quickly. This is quite doable, but you need to know how to go about it if you are going to be able to do it successfully.

Work, Work, Work and then work some more

Of course, you already know that you level up by accumulating experience points, and there are a few ways to earn these experience points. You can certainly get them by doing all of the normal farm chores, both on your farm and on those of your friends and neighbors. But at a certain point, your ability to continue to rack up the points is limited.

You can only work for each of your friends once a day, and once all your land has been harvested, plowed, and replanted, there is not much that you can do except wait until it is time to do it all over again. In the early stages of game play, it is easy to level up and you can usually get all the experience you need from working your farm and those of your neighbors (depending on how many neighbors you have too). But as you get to the higher levels, you’ll need to make greater and greater leaps in your experience point totals to move up, and that means employing a bit of a different strategy if you want to be successful.

Buy Your Way Up

The best way to grab up some big chunks of experience points early is to buy some decorations and other items for your farm. These purchases reward chunks of experience points that generally correspond in size to the cost of the item – the more expensive the item, the greater the experience bonus.

When you are first starting out in the game and trying to establish your farm, you do not have a lot of loose cash to throw around, so buying up a bunch of items isn’t really a practical option. Once you have a good stash of coins and a steady flow coming in, though, you can start using them to buy your way to the higher levels of the game.

This is really the most effective and efficient way of leveling up quickly when you are playing Farm Town. In addition, it does make sense too. After all, what do you have coins for anyway if not to buy the things you want to personalize your farm and really make it your own.

Farm Town coins are of great value in this game, you need to earn as many as possible.

There is a new guide for the Farm Town game called Farm Town Secrets and it also includes a Farm Town Cash report. We reviewed it and used it on our game and found that we were really moving up the levels quicker but best of all getting lots of cash. Read our review here : http://newgameguides.com/farmtown-secrets-guide-review-facebook-farm-town-game-cheats-guide/ and see what you think. It is much easier to have all the cheats and tips in one place!

Where are customers buying their clothes? I recently just had a field trip to Macy’s with my Fashion

Where are customers buying their clothes?

I recently just had a field trip to Macy’s with my Fashion Careers class. It was actually kind of funny to go there for a field trip… because I used to work at that particular Macy’s. So I had a little reunion with my old bosses and we had a tour of my old digs.

In my Fashion Careers class, we have been talking about the customer/consumer. Wholesalers need to consider how much the customer would be willing to spend, and how fashionable that one customer may be. Next thing to consider is to find out where the customer has bought and will buy this merchandise.

Let’s briefly go over the dominant retail categories that carry fashion merchandise.

Department Stores

Discount Stores

Specialty Chain

Designer-owned specialty store

Small specialty stores and boutiques

Off-price stores

Warehouse stores

Factory outlets

Catalogs

Hybrid stores

Telemarketers

Electronic retailers

Let’s go over a few of these retail categories:

Department Store: Department stores are large emporiums that carry hard and soft goods. Hard goods can include home furnishings; Soft goods can include apparel and accessories. Brand name and designer name merchandise is often available to the customers. Department stores usually have a broader range of prices, usually higher signifying better quality. Customer service is also very important to department stores. Personally, a couple of my favorite department stores are Macy’s and Bloomingdales.

Designer-Owned Specialty Stores: Designer-owned specialty stores carry only the labels of that one designer. They are owned, operated and promoted by that design house. A few prominent examples would be Versace, Chanel and Betsey Johnson.

Off-Price Stores: The general idea is that Off-price stores buy unwanted merchandise, due to various reasons, from wholesalers. Some popular Off-price stores are TJ Maxx, Marshall’s and Ross.

I will forever have a deep passionate love for shopping. Stores will not be seeing less of me any time soon. That’s great if you have a favorite store or brand, but I recommend you mix it up. Try shopping at a place you would usually never step place in. For example, I would prefer buying shoes at Neiman Marcus… but I have to admit, I have found some pretty fabulous shoes at Payless.

Some of us, myself included, may find ourselves believing people are either

Home Base Business oriented, or they are not. As clear as night and day. Right? Well, perhaps we all need to rethink that notion, and while we’re at it, rethink how we go about our lives. After all, when we think of a Home Base Business oriented person, there is also a perception of that person’s success or prosperity. But believe it or not, we may all be able to make a conscious effort to be more Home Base Business oriented.

Think of it this way. What if you can bake well? You may be some one who can make the most fantastic apple pie anyone has ever tasted, and you actually really like the whole process. Now, not being business oriented, you may just enjoy baking those pies every now and then, for family, friends, or even new neighbors. That being said, shift your thinking to Home Base Business mode.

All of a sudden, the whole idea of baking apple pies becomes a Home Base Business venture. Just a simple shift in thinking can get you to a whole new level. Before you know it, you put an actual price on what each pie is worth, you are promoting your talent, you’re asking your friends and family members to tell anyone they know to order your pies for themselves, and “Poof!” You are in the Home Base business. And to think, this all started out as an enjoyable activity of baking and sharing, with no aspirations to make a Home Base Business of it, or thoughts as to the prosperity and success it may bring to you.

Yes, that is a simplistic example, but, it is one that occurs to people every day. So, should we still think people are either Home Base Business oriented or not business oriented? Perhaps, if only in the terms of some of us being more serious than others, or not being as creative as others. It’s not just a matter of a person being one way or another, it is a concerted, conscious effort. No matter what your orientation in that way, however, it is really only a matter of taking yourself to the next level. A level of thinking beyond what is merely enjoyable, to what can be successful, prosperous, and rewarding.

Who reads receipts anyway? I can’t tell you how many times I have gone shopping at the grocery store

Who reads receipts anyway?

I can’t tell you how many times I have gone shopping at the grocery store and told them to toss the receipt. Oh yah, I’m serious! I know some of you are slack jawed and staring in disbelief but it is true.

To me a receipt was nothing more than extra paper to be thrown away later. I didn’t want to bother. And check the receipt? Who had time for that? I already knew what I’d bought so why look at it again.

Reality check!

I know, even I am slack jawed at my own naiveté! It is almost painful to think how unblissfully ignorant I have been when it comes to finances and frugality. But this morning I had a real wake up call in “the value of keeping receipts” department!

On my way to work I stopped at the grocery store to buy a couple last minute things for the day (I was finally out of leftovers). I picked up a yogurt cup, a bottle of juice, a snack bag of pretzels, and a lunchable. I was paying with a debit card and in my haste (I misread the clock and thought I was running late) I never even looked at the cost of the groceries! I just swiped the card, grabbed the bag with receipt inside, and walked out.

WTF?

Once I got to work, I took a minute to log onto my bank account to check the numbers and balance my checkbook. Low and behold, it was then that I saw a charge from the grocery store for $14.62. WTF?

Since when should it cost over $14 dollars for one of each: yogurt, juice, pretzels and a lunchable? Since never! Breaking with my own tradition, I fished the receipt out of my bag to double check. And this is what I saw:

The “clincher” was that this particular store doesn’t give you cash back on purchases with a debit card ~ ever! So there is no way they could deny this was a misunderstanding on my part and I knew the cashier hadn’t given me anything but the groceries and receipt. No money that is for sure.

Lessons learned

Thankfully they were nice about it and refunded me the extra I’d been charged. But what if I hadn’t looked? If I had waited two or three days to check my bank account and balance the checkbook, I would have seen the $14 charge and never questioned it. I would not have remembered what I bought at the time and would just have assumed it was right! I wouldn’t have double checked the numbers on the receipt that’s for sure.

Reformed!

But I am a receipt slacker no more!!! I have been transformed. Never again will I casually toss the receipts without a second thought, nor will I hastily agree to pay whatever number the cashier says without doing my own mental calculation. I have joined the world of receipt checking adults everywhere who prefer not to lose anymore money than they already have too, thanks to overpriced goods. (But that is the stuff for another article.)
