The title’s a line from a Friends episode which i really like. I miss the carefree days, when i could watch like 10 episodes a day on DVD. Now it seems like i’m going to be routinely happy in the day and a myriad of emotions at night.

That’s why i’ve been procrastinating for so long. My huge opening of this blog’s supposed to be like, really magnificent but i’m just finding it hard being coherent at night nowadays. So I’ll do it now. The Singaporean version of twilight.

The past few days were full of well wishers and fun with the gang. I really really missed playing Mahjong! But Cass wasn’t there so we had to do 3 player which i hate because i always finish my own wall first and i have to stretch to make the extra wall. And it just doesn’t feel right without all of us! But yeah, New Year’s Eve plans made, they shan’t escape now!

Wednesday was a day of Firsts for me.

And etc. I feel like a criminal entering the world again after a long term in prison. 

I spent Thursday cleaning my room and i really really wanna show you all what i dug up because it’s so approriate for this Starting Anew thing:

It was some sort of workout tying these stacks of papers and books up with raffia and bringing them downstairs. But the whole accomplished thing was there. BUT i’m not even done with JC stuff. My Dad saw them and went, Oh My God! you studied so much ah?

Hahaha Highlight of this post is…. Yesterday!

It was soooo cool, i spent most of the day at the salon getting this done:

Pardon the vacant expression. I have very little experience in taking self-shots. REALLY. gosh i hate it when people whom i’m not so close to, like Z., say stuff like, ‘Xinying, i know you like to camwhore.’ Double-U-Tee-Eff.

Cass has my full body shot and only when i got home did i realise how much my clothes looked like some Korean girl’s. Coz of the balloon sleeves! and O.L. skirt. and pumps. Aaaah i dno luh go see Cass’s blog (if she posted it) and review it yourself!

But Omg i felt so grown up and cool! Even if it was just for a day. i’d originally gone to the salon for a haircut and highlights session but i couldnt resist asking Michelle (the nice helper) blow dry my hair into waves. Cool change huh! If i had the skills and proper hair texture i’d make it permanent.

I promised to show how i kept my Online loots in my previous blog, so here it is!

I bet you’re thinking, wth is this weird box with that cheena looking device? Its actually my laptop cooler which my Dad had bought from (where else?) China. But that’s not the point!

All still in bag for preservation of it’s original quality because washing and stuffing into my drawers is such bad treatment. Gonna have fun unpacking and dressing up

I am still gonna shop online because 1. it’s so much fun and 2. it’s convenient and 3. why shop outside when you have great brands like Bonito Chico? BC’s hiring and i sooooo want a job working with them but it seems so hard-to-get! and if i applied i would be up against those people way past their A levels or Diplomas and probably have already had their first jobs. But it really really suits me given the immense amount of time i spend online and my love of organisation! Aaaah. See if i ever get the courage to type up sthg and send it to them luh.

Now for reminiscing..

I find that the A levels had not been as huge a deal to me as it was to so many others. There was no MOOD to study on any day i remember. i didn’t have the so-called Pia stage and i must confess that i really really believe that i’m not going to do as well as i probably appear to. It’s like, i spent alot of time trying to distract myself from a particular emotion by shopping online and staying away from a period of study longer than 2 hours. I had this feeling that all that we needed was probably already in our heads and that like, we could just, go ahead yeah? But of course we still needed that refresher thingy.

The A levels revealed to me, the most, how people could change tremendously within a span of what, 2 months? I saw the people too weak and cowardly to face the challenges in the future, i saw the people who ignored others’ wishes and prated on about their own, i saw the people who truly truly cared how others were doing and tried their best to make up for blanks. For the latter, i thank Naomi and Surong who’ve been great confidantes.

I think Surong’s probably the only person who knows me better than i know myself, and Naomi’s (like what Mr Ali said) like my teddy bear who’s always ready for a hug and a ranting session. i love them both!

I also began a Meteor Garden II roll, which was okay for my studies because i already knew it so well and i could do work with it in the background.

Ahhh, After 4 years of blogging on the same ground, this change feels good and manageable. I’m going to let xy-choo stay open for a week or so, for my fans (HAHA) to read my old posts and reminisce. Then i’m going to close it and those memories will be mine alone! Lol. Yup so, if you did like the way i blogged in the past, just take the chance to read it now because you won’t be able to read it again!

So arrogant of me but whatever luh.

My review of WordPress: So far the attached captions on the photos look really turn-off. They throw off the proportions for all words! I’m warned.

There’s this thing where i can put Twitter updates in the column on the side but aiya i don’t think i’m cool enough for Twitter. HAHA

And those people i’ve not linked, it’s not that i’m de-friending you but like most of you have either changed address or have been on such a long hiatus that i dno if the address is correct anymore. Igår var en grymt trevlig kväll – men mot alla odds måste jag säga. Blev aldrig av att jag tog en powernap vilket jag verkligen hade behövt innan jag tog mej till fredagspuben på skolan. Väl där var det ju riktigt dålig uppslutning från klassen, vi var kanske sex personer från klassen som var där (kom igen nu folk!). Hade i alla fall trevligt med Ulrika och lite KNM08:or.
Efter två öl stressade jag vidare med Bobo mot Riche. Jag mådde riktigt dåligt när vi kom fram. Detta på grund av (med risk för att vara FÖR ärlig) att jag var dålig i magen. Jag började kallsvettas, blev helt snurrig och det svartnade för ögonen. Efter tre toalettbesök och lite tid så lugnade det ner sej och jag lyckades fira Hanna. Åt en fantastiskt god tandorimarinerad sej med fried rice och myntayoghurt!
Sedan bar det vidare mot nästan party – Strand vid Hornstull där Bobos band Original High Five skulle spela. De lirade grymt bra och det var en skön stämning i publiken som alltid. Det blev en hel del öl, intressanta diskussioner med min Susanna och pardans med Sebbe. Kom hem med ett par leriga converse som en gång brukade vara vita och alldeles för mycket snor i min näsa. Helt enkelt så hade jag en jävligt lyckad kväll!

Idag mår jag som jag förtjänar, som man brukar säga, snorar och hostar och huvudet dunkar. Avnjuter min morgonfavorit – knäckemacka med leverpastej och gurka.
Idag är tanken att inte göra någonting. Ska titta på förra veckans avsnitt av Robinson Karibien så att jag hänger med i kvällens nya avsnitt. Se Idol på webb-tv och kanske en och en annan film. Blir nog Precious som jag INTE har laddat ner här.

Long ago in a faraway galaxy I came upon an article in Ebony magazine by Laura B. Randolph titled “The top 40“, during my middle 20’s to 30’s transition period. In my mind set at that time i thought “the top 40″ was a hit list of music’s top 40’s songs. But as I read further, it was “The” list of tip toeing into being 40 as a woman. I kept that list in my diary for many years, as a reminder to myself that my day will come when I will be writing my top 40 list. Two years ago I began adding to that list at the age of 39 preparing for my next stage in life. Ok, I hit the 40 mark and now there is so much to review, evaluate and sort through in my life. My patience is short, my mind is more astute, and my body is speaking a different language unknown to me. Words and phrases flow from my lips like secret prose, I am embracing these changes (I sure there will be more) and just going with the flow.

Well here is my Reinvention in Process “top 40 list”: {the ♥ notes goal(s) completed}

1. More quiet time for reflection, relaxation, and meditation.

2. Spend time with people who like me, and care about me. Ignore (and stay away from) people who put me down or treat me badly, because they can not handle my “True” self.

3. Do things that I enjoy or that makes me feel good, and reward myself for my successes.

4. Improve my talents in music and art.

5. Be my own best friend first and do things that are good for me. ♥

6. Set goals and work to achieve them ALL.

7. Eliminate the baggage and bad habits that are holding me back, and discover how to break through and reach my higher ground. ♥

NoSQL est le terme anglais sous lequel sont souvent désignés les bases de données émergentes généralement non relationnelles et donc n’utilisant pas le langage SQL pour faire des requêtes sur la base de donnée.

Les bases de données relationnelles sont aujourd’hui essentiellement utilisées dans les entreprises pour stocker les informations critiques sur le business.

J’ai passé plusieurs années à écrire des logiciels pour permette de faciliter l’accès à ces données par des non experts , des utilisateurs normaux non doués de pouvoirs paranormaux pour intérpréter l’algèbre relationnelle et le SQL.  Je faisais déja du NoSQL, mais uniquement pour les utilisateurs … Sous le capot, il y avait du SQL à gogo.

J’ai eu l’opportunité d’aller à la conférence Open Source OSCON 2009 d’O'Reilly et le sujet des bases de données NoSQL était vraiment un sujet très chaud.

Saviez-vous que Voldemort n’est pas seulement un personnage de Harry Potter ? Que Cassandra ne faisait pas que prédire l’avenir en Grèce ? Que Hadoop (avec HBase) n’est pas le bruit que fait une boisson gazeuse mal digérée ? Que CouchDB permettait de se relaxer au niveau du schéma ?

Au commencement, il y eu le verbe, avec un papier de recherche publié par Google qui a fait date:

Bigtable: A distributed storage system for structured data (2006) par Fay Chang ,  Jeffrey Dean ,  Sanjay Ghemawat ,  Wilson C. Hsieh ,  Deborah A. Wallach ,  Mike Burrows ,  Tushar Chandra ,  Andrew Fikes ,  Robert E. Gruber

Ce papier décrit la base de donnée non relationnelle (NoSQL donc) utilisée par Google pour stocker les données du moteur de recherche, de Google Earth et Google Finance.  L’échelle de grandeur de la quantité de données stockée donne le vertige, on parle en petaoctets (ça fait beaucoup de gigaoctets tout ça!).

Celà a donné plein d’idées à d’autres et une pléthore de bases NoSQL ont vu naissance dans la foulée.  Je tiens de source sûre (un architecte de Yahoo en Californie) que la sortie de Hadoop et HBase en Open Source par Yahoo! a été poussée par l’idée de permettre à tout le monde de faire la même chose que Google avec BigTable et Map/Reduce…

Je ne vous ai pas encore parlé du théorème CAP qui veut qu’entre Cohérence,Disponibilité (Availability en Anglais) et tolérance à la partition/découpage du système, on ne puisse en obtenir que deux.  C’est un peu la théorie des quantas de l’informatique …

Gick upp strax efter sex idag för att en överrasknings-champagnefrukost var inplanerad. Bobos syster Hanna fyller idag 30 år så vi, bobos mamma, bobos syster Stella och hennes kille och dotter Daga ringde på hos en nyvaken Hanna strax innan sju imorse. Hon blev väldigt överraskad och glad. Vi åt croissanter, färsk frukt och drack champagne – kan man ha en mysigare start på dagen eller?

Sitter nu hemma och ska utnyttja att jag är vaken vid den här tiden. Ska sätta igång med en skoluppgift, ska skriva artiklar och notiser om Ungerns vindistrikt som vi fått i uppdrag av tidningen RES som nu ska starta en webbtidning. Riktigt rolig uppgift men jag känner definitivt press för att det är på riktigt.

Idag har jag promenerat lite på stan med Bobo. Skulle köpa en mascara men det råkade bli ett par svarta leggings och en tunika med paljetter på axlarna. I vanlig ordning så testade jag inte tunikan i butiken, utan väntade med det tills jag kommit hem. Testade den nyss och älskade den! Det var sååå längesen jag kände mej fin i någonting.

Imorgon är det fredag. Fredagen bjuder på Stockholm social media lunch på Två grabbar, fredagspub på skolan, födelsedagsmiddag på Riche och sedan Original High Five-spelning på Strand vid Hornstull. Kommer bli en grym dag!

Har precis betalat alla räkningar. Det blev sammanlagt en summa på cirka 9500kr. Det delar ju givetvis jag och  Bobo på. Som student får jag ungefär 7800kr i månaden för fulltidsstudier. Räknade ut hur mycket jag har kvar efter att alla räkningar är betalda, slog ut summan på fyra veckor och kvar har jag 682kr.
682 kronor att leva för i veckan fram till nästa 25:e.

Jag älskar att vara student men fan vad det suger att vara fattig.

ytd the 5 of us went out without bize because he decided to have a sudden fever and pangseh us. twas fun. nthg much to blog about because stuart said too many stupid things for me to remember but it was nice because its been a long while since we all went out together. although jefri only spent like half an hours with us. lol still counts. i ate too much yesterday, before dinner. i felt like a freaking chansey. oh that reminds me i need to go check out jigglypuff’s lullaby. i’m hoping i shit a lot later to offset all the weight i gained.

my cousin stayed over my house last night. soooo maybe i’ll bring him and my sister out to rot outside later. but i just checked the list of movies showing and zzz there’s barely anything you can watch with 13 year olds. so maybe… not.

my family + my maid is gg malaysia this thursday so …. there’ll be nobody at home! except my brother. wow. exciting. i can’t wait. i love it whenever there’s nobody at home. you can cook maggi anytime and you can go out anytime and you can come back anytime and you can spend as much money as you want on food outside. woots!!!!!!can’t wait can’t wait. the sad part is… i think they’re coming back on sunday. I think that I just realized a different take on the whole Cassandra myth. She was cursed to be able to see the future and have no one believe her. Mainly, I just thought this meant Apollo was a dick, and Agamemnon a dupe, and men, in general, are thickies all.

However, I now realize that every single fortune teller or psychic out there – if they have any talent, knows exactly what Cassandra’s curse is all about. People come to find their fortune and then don’t want to believe it.

Sometimes, they just don’t believe the situation applies to them, when it clearly does.

Sometimes, they don’t want to do what they need to in order to stop bad shit from happening.

Sometimes, they don’t want to know if the love of their right-this-minute is cheating on them.

Sometimes, friends and family ask for readings – some even obsessively about one particular subject – then don’t bother to listen to the answer they get.

Sometimes, all tarot readers deal with someone who refuses to believe the truth laid out in front of them.

This is part of why tarot readers, or any psychic, charges for their services. People tend to listen to advice a bit more if they pay for it from a professional. When something costs you, you tend to listen as you want as much bang for your buck as you can get.

Not so much if the tarot reading is for free from a friend. Then, well, your friend is just giving you advice – even when that is not what is going on.

Sometimes, people are avid listeners and actually attack their challenges. Other times, they know they were supposed to do something that they didn’t and they feel sheepish about it.

But with friends and family it is much easier to just say, “Nah.  That’s not going to happen.”  Because, hey, sometimes people need to NOT believe Cassandra.

Inatt har jag inte sovit någonting. Vid sju kollade jag på klockan och undrade när jag egentligen hade tänkt att somna. Sov gött fram till klockan åtta men sen skulle man ju upp för att ta sej till skolan. Sitter på en föreläsning som är totalt ointressant och förbannar mej själv för att jag inte sket i skolan och sov vidare.

Igår var jag ju sällskap till Soraya på hennes väns bröllop. Självklart hölls det väldigt många tal. Blödiga som jag och Soraya är så föll det en tår eller två några gånger under alla dessa fina tal (och jag som inte ens känner brudparet). Självklart blev man själv sugen och jag började planera mitt eget bröllop bit för bit i huvudet. Messade med Bobo och hintade (okej hotade) honom om att han ska fria till mej. Han svarade med en smiley och sa att han älskar mej, men han verkade inte vilja prata giftermål än.
Senare under kvällen mötte jag upp Bobo och vi tog oss till KGB där våra fina vänner var. Trevligt att avrunda kvällen med att pussa på Sussi, snacka allvar med Sebbe och få komplimanger av Adam för mitt hår.

Har jättetrevligt och är skitglad att jag får träffa soraya som normalt befinner sej i göteborg. Lyssnar på en massa tal och kan inte låta bli att tänka på när det är min tur att stå i centrum.

Last week, I had the honour of competing in the Borden, Ladner, Gervais, LLP Client Counselling competition with my amazingly talented partner Cassandra Tarrataca.  This competition was reported to be the largest to date, and we were fortunate enough to make it to the finals!

Testing the competitors on life like situations of interviewing a potential client, we were faced with two “white-collar” crime scenarios.

I would like to personally thank the judges, all from BLG’s Toronto office, for sponsoring and making the trip down.  Also for the food and drinks at the finalists dinner afterward.

Har försökt att nå Telekiosken i Farsta men inte fått någon kontakt. Sökte upp Telekiosken på Twitter och hittade kiosken i Kalmar. Frågade dem om hur jag ska gå tillväga för att betala av min telefon direkt, istället för att betala 200kr i månaden i 18 månader till. Fick väldigt bra hjälp av Telekiosken i Kalmar och avslutningsvis fick jag ett mail med tydlig information hur jag ska gå tillväga för att betala av telefonen och portera mitt telefonnummer till en annan operatör.
Twitter är FANTASTISKT! ALLA företag borde vara aktiva på Twitter.

Att Fredrik Reinfeldt och Barack Obama var såhär bra på att sjunga hade jag ingen aning om.
