The much awaited first touchscreen Walkman has arrived, from Sony. It is hitting the market after a long perseverance to regain the loss of its one time dominance of portable audio. This device flaunts in the market after a recession of a year and half after the iPod touch. In this model X1000 series you can have a gentle input and smaller 3-Inch display area at the resolution of 432 x 240 to 480 x 320. Besides, it has a glossy and smooth face to take a large number of fingerprints and smudges quite quick.

Click to hear the music on the go

Moreover, the sides of the Walkman have been covered in a hard, rock-like surface; it’s very nearly like holding granite in your hands. The screen of the walkman never supports multitouch gestures. Still it is sensitive enough to react to swipe through music lists or photos.

I was watching Dora the Explorer driving down RT. 135 today, and the show isn’t half bad with Pet Genius playing in the background. All this really made me start to wonder; is the video player in the automobile someday going to push away the radio? What are my kids going to think when I refuse to let them watch cartoons on a car trip, because I am too busy rocking out to Danzig?

The DVD in the back of the seat has been around for a while now, and are becoming more affordable like a radio is. 10 years ago my mom’s car had a tape player, now CDs are a standard. Maybe in the near future every car will have at least one video screen in every car. It’s bound to happen, but I will opt out of it when given the opportunity. I love cruising down the street blasting my radio, I can’t picture it any other way. I don’t know what I will do if my kids expect me to use the video player that comes with the car. Smash the screens probably, not like I’ll be able to watch anything anyway!

A Good Auto Sound System is a Requirement not a Luxury How do you decide which auto sound system is

A Good Auto Sound System is a Requirement not a Luxury

How do you decide which auto sound system is best for you? This is a question that many consumers ask in the U. S. each and every day. The truth is that only you can decide what kind of sound you find enjoyable and what you are seeking in the sound system you will ultimately purchase. A good sound system will greatly improve how you feel about not only the vehicle you drive but also your disposition after your daily commute. It may seem like such a small thing, the changing of a sound system, but it does seem to have such a profound impact on how we start our days. Of course we all know that getting your day off to a good start sets the tone for the entire day and if that day is Monday it sets the tone for not only the day ahead but also the week to come.

Music affects almost every aspect of our lives. Most of us do not realize the impact that music has on our day-to-day lives and it is quite difficult because our world seems to be filled with it. It is much easier however, to explain the difference a good sound system makes. It’s funny, I find myself in a hurry to get out of stores that have lousy sound systems and speakers that dribble out little more than static while I can shop for hours in a store that has tasteful music playing in the background over a good sound system. I prefer the volume lower and the music playing in the background rather than being the center of my attention.

Most of us find that soft music playing in the background is rather unobtrusive and allows us to get along with our thoughts and the mission at hand while loud music blaring over antiquated speakers does a great deal to disrupt our thought processes which will only serve to send us along to the next errand on our list. If you’ll notice it seems that clerks in the stores where the loud music blares along are often not as even tempered as those in stores that play music at respectful volumes and have very well kept sound systems. I think I would be cranky too after listening to music in a manner that music wasn’t meant to be heard.

I’m not a music snob by any means; I simply enjoy listening to music for the sake of actually hearing the music. Loud music is good sometimes but not when I have other things on my mind. I prefer that music remain in the background when I’m running about taking care of errands, even in the car. The hallmark of a good auto sound system is that it sounds good even at low volumes. This means you can enjoy music in the background, hum along, or simply ignore the music in favor of the action taking place on the road.

The point I’m trying to make is that even though you may not realize the impact that a good auto sound system has on music immediately, you will definitely feel the difference it makes over time. The better the sound system, the better the sound and music is after all, sound.

If you are a true lover of music and spend a great deal of your week or even any given day in your vehicle, doesn’t it make sense to invest heavily in your auto sound system? I know for me that particular decision is a no brainer. I love music and it is an important part of not only my life but also the lives of my children. As a result we spend a lot of time listening to the radio in our SUV and singing along. Even when we aren’t listening to music, I enjoy listening talk radio and the news on NPR. These things are an important part of my day and I really enjoy all that each and every one adds to my life. Because of that, I find my investment in a good auto sound system to be a requirement rather than a luxury.

Problem 1: A student has a cassette she has to listen to for class. A cassette? Seriously? Seriously

Problem 1: A student has a cassette she has to listen to for class.

A cassette? Seriously? Seriously?! For a nursing class? You seriously have an instructor who is requiring you to listen to a cassette? For nursing? I mean, haven’t there been technological advances in science enough that instructional material might be on something other than a cassette?

Problem 2: The library’s cassette player is as large as a desktop computer, weighs twice as much and, judging by the sounds it makes when it’s turned on, is steam-powered.

Why, why, why, why do we have this thing? No one under the age of 30 understands how to use it (what are these “knobs” of which you speak?), the forward & reverse buttons do not work and that sound! Why does it make so much noise?! The student was actually concerned that the noise of it would disturb the people around her.

After some research, I’ve discovered that cassette players are still being made, even in this century, and that many of them use electricity to make their cogs turn. I’m tempted to just order a couple $13 Sony tape players from Amazon and donate them to the library. That will be my legacy. The J. Kelley Memorial Cassette Players with Silent Playback and Full Automatic Shut-off.

So I have this crappy ugly commission piece of work that I hate doing, but need the measly 40 bucks, and I need it yesterday. I force myself to do it because I’d really rather be finishing a beautiful (albeit HUGE) cross stitch work of art for my first born genius, and right behind that is another beautiful (and also HUGE) cross stitch piece for my second born genius. Wanna know what gets me through these tedious hours right now? Music. Old songs, new songs, really old songs, songs only maybe five years old; music I can sing along with. I was sitting there, singing along, and realizing how much I am enjoying the technology of the day. (I will not say “when I was young” but I am thinking it.) The mere fact that I have nearly 400 songs at my disposal, in a plastic case the size of an Oreo cookie is stunning to me. I am overwhelmed with the ease and convenience of it all. Like here, I can write stuff, be silly, be pertinent, be abusive, be adoring of my children, be outraged at the idiocy of this broken country, be anything I want. And someone will read it. I could actually be making a difference, somewhere. No I won’t say that kids today have it…..blah blah blah, but I will count myself fortunate to have offspring who have forced me into the modern times enough to benefit from the parts that are fun. And hopefully, useful. To me, as well as others.
