Slip on your Manolos and grab a Cosmo, girls, because the first “Sex and the City 2″ trailer is here! The nearly minute-and-a-half trailer reveals few plot points, but the sequel looks like another fun- and fashion-filled romp, centering around a girlfriend getaway to the desert.

The gal pals then hop on a plane and jet to the desert to “get carried far away,” which explains the foursome being spotted in Morocco back in November. Did we mention they ride camels? Oh my! After a back seat makeout between Carrie and Big, the trailer closes on the four friends wandering alone in the desert. “Sometimes you just have to get away with the girls,” SJP concludes.

So to sum up, the two big happenings in the sequel appear to be a wedding and a vacay. We’ll have to wait for another trailer to flesh out more of the story and to see a few of those star-studded cameos we’ve been hearing about like Miley Cyrus, Liza Minnelli and Penelope Cruz.

The trailer (see it after the jump!) opens with quick shots of New York City accompanied by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ seriously apropos hit “Empire State of Mind.” “It’s been two years and in two years, amazing things can happen,” purrs Sarah Jessica Parker. Cut to Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) sauntering down a Big Apple sidewalk, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) baking cupcakes with her 2-year-old daughter Rose and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) doing something at what appears to be a wedding (the rumored Stanford Blatch-Anthony Marantino nuptials, perhaps?).

The casting of 100 bronze drums for the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi kicked off in Dong Tien Commune, Dong Son District in the northern province of Thanh Hoa on December 22.

The work began with a ceremony held by the Lam Kinh Thanh Hoa Heritage Association in cooperation with the Cultural Heritage Association of Vietnam, Vietnam History Science Association, and Vietnam Young Business Association.

At the ceremony, artisans will use ovens to cast four drums, which are reproductions of the traditional Ngoc Lu, Hoang Ha, Song Da and Quang Xuong drums.

The 100 drums will then be cast by four famous craftsmen in Thanh Hoa Province including Nguyen Minh Tuan, Le Van Bay, Thieu Quang Tung and Dang Ich Hoan using traditional methods.

Ninety-nine of the 100 drums, which will measure 60 centimeters in diameter and 48 centimeters in height, will be cast in Dong Son District, believed to be the home of bronze-drum casting in Vietnam. 

Chairman of the Lam Kinh Thanh Hoa Heritage Association Ho Quang Son said the finished pieces will be decorated with words and dragon patterns.

A final drum will be adorned with 1,000 dragon images and cast in the Hung Temple dedicated to Vietnam’s founders, the Hung Kings on the 10th of the Third Month, 2010 of the lunar calendar.

The 100 bronze drums are expected to be completed on August 15, 2010 and ready for presentation at the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.

This Status Report by Sikhalazo Dube on Current status of postgraduate training in animal production and veterinary science in southern Africa (SADC region): Strengths, gaps and priority areas for support was released on 22 December, 2009.

One of the five objectives of ILRI’s Capacity Strengthening Strategy is to facilitate building sustainable capacity of institutes to build capacity. This could only be achieved through building the capacity of the agricultural higher learning institutes and by facilitating the effective integration of research-based learning outputs (tools, methods and approaches) into the curricula of the learning institutes.

In order to establish the priorities for collaborative capacity strengthening activities of the learning institutes in the areas of animal production and veterinary services, ILRI commissioned five studies covering the following subregions: Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA region); Southern Africa (SADC region), West Africa (CORAF region); South Asia; and Southeast Asia. This report summarizes the findings of the gap analysis study for the Southern Africa (SADC) region. ILRI will make every effort to share and validate these findings and use this information in designing and implementing capacity strengthening activities in this region.

Last Christmas, I was not glowing from head to toe from radioactive iodine thyroid testing nor from the sheer glee of getting engaged. In fact, I wasn’t glowing at all….well yet.

See, the sales representative for the travel company I work for decided to take me on a road trip to Austin. We were to meet a new client I would be assigned to. This was great. A whole day off work. A ride three hours to Austin and three hours back. Lots of time to talk and catch up. I have worked with Debbie over 17 years. We have been through a lot together. Grown a lot together. It’s not just a friendship. It is a history.

I soon discovered road tripping with Debbie was not all it was cracked up to be. She liked to stop – a LOT. I am a get there kinda gal (similar to a guy but not quite). So we stop. And we stop. And we stop again. I went inside the store and got a Coke to drink. I figured why not. I need a good caffeine sugar rush. I leave the store right behind Debbie. She goes to the driver side to get in. I am walking towards the passenger side.

I am looking at the ground. I remember thinking to myself the parking lot was flat. There wasn’t a step. Just as I thought that, I felt my foot hit not pavement but air. Unfortunately foot number two was already following close behind. Instantly, I had no footing and down I went. One hand held a Coke so it splayed outward, the other hand – my right – caught the concrete. HARD.

It was not pretty or graceful. It was SPLAT. I fell forward landing on knees and one arm. I ripped a hole in my pants on the right knee. My Coke was broken and spewing. I was really bummed about that. I was pretty stinkin’ poor and didn’t want to dish out another buck for a Coke. I stood right up and shook myself off. Debbie was shocked. The truck passenger next to us, also shocked. But I was okay. I WAS. I was embarrassed to no end, but just fine thankyouverymuch.

The nice lady in the store gives me a free Coke (bless you). Onward we go to Austin, and my wrist begins to swell nice and round. Then it hurts. Debbie stops so I can get ice. Debbie stops to get cookies from a bakery for the client. I can no longer open the car door with my right hand. We stop again at the clients place. I can no longer open car doors, office doors, and now shaking hands is a real booger. Nice to meet you. OUCH.

We head back. Debbie is extremely worried. I am still very much embarrassed. I feel like a dufus. I FELL OFF A CURB. I assure her. At the most it is sprained, please don’t worry. I wasn’t going to. And I didn’t. Back in Dallas, the swelling has not gone down. Now I am bruising down the inside of my arm. A friend comes by and sees it. He thinks I should have it checked out. Debbie is texting me, begging me to get it checked out.

Finally, I decide to go to the doctor just to make sure. I head to the CareNow clinic by Jason’s house. This is when I saw him again after a two month break, what a great excuse to see him. How could he resist? I was maimed. The doctor x-rays my hand after a quick diagnosis of movements. I could not lift my hand up, flexing from the wrist. (FYI-I was still able to text). She comes back into the room with the results of the x-ray.

“Do you think your injury is severe?”

I put down my phone with my right hand, stopping a text to give her full attention. I shrugged, “I think it’s sprained. I fell down. It’s really embarrassing.”

“Ms. Sims, your hand is fractured not just in one place but TWO.”

Oh yikes, suddenly my texting ability is gone (I switch to my left hand). My hand feels funny now. Not a good funny. “Are you serious????”

“Yes, I am. This is a very dangerous break. You have broken a carpel bone that has blood flow in it. If not properly casted in seven days the bone could die. You also have a buckle fracture to your radius bone in your forearm.”

WHAT? She slips a splint on. “You can take this off but don’t use the hand. It’s very important you see an Orthopedic doctor within seven days.”

Holy Moly. This is serious. I friggin’ BROKE my arm. My RIGHT arm. OMG!

Life as I knew it changed dramatically. I will ask you to try (just once) brushing your teeth with your left hand. Opening doors with your left hand. Pulling up, and buttoning pants ONE handed. And I won’t even ask you to try writing because..well, that’s just mean. I went from completely independent and freakishly strong to – a weakling. Not only a weakling, but a weakling incapable of the smallest tasks, a weakling incapable of the smallest tasks AT CHRISTMAS. Ahhhhhh!

And I am not going to kid you. It HURT like nobodys business. It hurt worse than anything should hurt. Not just pain, but an ache, a constant ache that no medicine could cure. I won’t go into the drama of getting it casted but let’s just say, two doctors, and a dozen frantic calls later. I get a cast. A cast that feels like it weighs FIVE pounds. A cast that I did NOT get to pick the color. It was yellow. Not just any yellow but like a highlight marker yellow. This picture does not do it justice.

I mean why not tape a caution sign to my back too. Let’s just announce what a hazard I am. Beep. Beep. Beep. Big yellow bus coming through. I always thought having a cast would be cool. NOT.

Well, I have to give myself credit. I can be pretty ingenious when I want to be. When I am faced wearing a bright yellow cast, I get ingenious. So, I decided to buy some fabric marker pens from Michaels and paint that sucker!

Here is the result.

Beautiful ain’t she? You could hardly see the yellow. I was pretty proud of myself. If I was going to get noticed for a cast, let it be for a purple one. Not a dang yellow banana!

I somehow learned to type (because my job depended it on it) with a casted right arm. I typed FAST. It was pretty incredible. It HURT horribly. My shoulders ached from the offset of the cast, then from having to hoist my arm up all day to type with the four fingers sticking out. At night was the only time I took a pain pill. I had to take baths. It’s really hard to scrub with just one hand. Go ahead, try squeezing soap, with one hand, on a buff or a washcloth. Nope, don’t cheat. ONE HAND. The other is in a cast wrapped in five plastic bags, you don’t even have fingers to use.

The simplest things were a challenge. Like washing my hair one handed. At first, I tried a friend washing my hair in the sink for me, but that did not work at all. Then, I figured out a system, in the kitchen sink, with small dixie cups filled with shampoo and conditioner. It worked quite well I thought.

Eventually, I got bored with purple. I thought..black would be better. Black goes with anything. Another portrait on my arm.

Yeah, uhh, black over purple over yellow. Eh. Not so good. You know what? Nothing I could do about it. I made it another week and colored it again. (well, first we tried to SAND the black off, then color it). I think my cast dang near FELL off from abuse. It didn’t. It ended up green. (yes I know I should have left it purple) In my defense, I was in a cast for SEVEN weeks. SEVEN.

My daughter and her boyfriend, so kindly, put up the Christmas tree. They hung every ornament. Every wreath. Every candy cane. They cleaned every week for me. They carried in groceries. Anything they could do to help me, they did. I can not even tell you what a blessing that was. There is not much worse than a broken arm, and the brokenness you feel as a person. To have two teenagers step up in compassion and care was truly amazing.

Last Christmas was NOT easy, but I will never forget the Timeless Deeds those kids performed.

Merry Christmas, may it be as bright and cheery as my yellow cast.

Kurz vor dem Jahreswechsel beglückt MTV die ‘Bis(s)’ – Fans mit drei Specials rund um die populäre Twilight – Saga.

Los geht es am Mittwoch, am 30 Dezember , um 15 Uhr mit Gossip : In MTV Special : ‘Love Bites’ will man die Beziehung zwischen Robert Pattinson und Kristen Stewart ausloten. Seit einiger Zeit halten sich hartnäckige Gerüchte, nach denen das ‘Twilight’ – Traumpaar sich auch privat sehr nahe gekommen ist. Außerdem besucht das MTV – Team in Vancouver und Portland Orte, an denen die Mitglieder der Filmcrew sich getummelt haben, wenn sie gerade mal nicht vor der Kamera standen.

Im Anschluss widmet sich ab 16.00 Uhr die Sendung “New Moon Revealed” den sogenannten “Twihards” – also leidenschaftlichen Fans der Vampir-Reihe. This Status Report by Lusato Kurwijila on Current status of postgraduate training in livestock sector in sub-Saharan Africa and priorities for ILRI’s support: ASARECA region was released on 17 December, 2009.

ILRI recognizes that the long-term solution to address the continuous and dynamic nature of capacity strengthening needs is to develop sustainable capacity within the relevant organizations which are mandated to build capacity of the various stakeholder groups engaged in the livestock innovation system. To this effect, ILRI has undertaken a number of initiatives including training needs assessment in the ASARECA region during 2007.

The current study seeks to assess the status of postgraduate training in the ASARECA region with the overall objective of strengthening the postgraduate training and research capacity of the tertiary educational institutes in the livestock sector within SSA. The specific objective is to identify the gaps in the postgraduate training in animal production and veterinary sciences and to identify the roles and priorities of ILRI in bridging this gap.

Ok…this drama is SO SO good! Rainie dramas never fail to impress in the comedy section XD! I’m currently watching Episode 8, so only 5 episodes left to go until the grand finale! (I wish they’d just release the episodes already T^T!)

So…what’s this drama all about? Well, I think the storyline is relatively original…I mean, have you ever seen a drama with a geek dancing to Pink Panther…? Nah…didn’t think so XD! ANYWAYS, the storyline basically consists of the lead male Xue Hai, (Show Lo/Alan Luo) who is a complete geek that has been sheltered for like 18/20 years (and dances to the Pink Panther song ), moving to Shanghai for uni and to gain independence. In uni (after several attempts to get rid of his protective grandmother mother aunt sister O___O) his name gets changed to Da Lang (the pronounciation of the Pink Panther theme song in Chinese…da land, da lang, da lang da lang da lang…stop…ok…need to stop singing that XD) and he meets Mo Li (Maggie Wu) and Bao Zhu Jie (Rainie Yang) who plays his main romantic interests as well as meeting his hilarious roomates. Eventually he falls for Bao Zhu because despite her tough exterior, she is actually a kind hearted person who’s saved Da Lang’s life several times. She also falls for him because he takes her as she is. However, because of a HUGE misunderstanding (I rele wanted to hit the mother ¬___¬), Da Lang thought Bao Zhu only likes rich men and went abroad to marry a rich dude. He breaks down and returns to Taiwan (hard not to cry in this episode).

Skip forward a few years, Da Lang has become Xue Hai again and is a complete playboy as he cannot believe in true love anymore as well as not wanting to get hurt that badly again. Bao Zhu is also in Taiwan (as she never went abroad in the first place) and presents a radio show called ‘Sweetheart time’. She hasn’t forgotten Da Lang and is still trying to contact him through her radio show. However, with Han Feng/Xue Zhang’s continuous pleas for her to forget Da Lang, she eventually gives in and decides to give up on Da Lang, turning to Han Feng instead. By mere chance, Xue Hai hears Bao Zhu’s radio show, recognises her voice and decides to buy the whole radio station. After calling her to his office, she calls him Da Lang, but he quickly denies it (at the same time as being ridiculously happy and changing back into his Da Lang expressions whilst talking to the camera). He decides to chase her again, only to dump her like the way she dumped him. Xue Hai tries to use the fact that he’s rich in order to make Bao Zhu like him again but she tells him that it’s not all about money (which she taught Da Lang, but didn’t mean it). And that’s all I’ve got up to…am currently watching the new episode up today .

I really like this cast list. I felt that Show was absolutely amazing, he was the most convincing geek and did a great job of acting like one too XD. Gwad was he hot when he changed his hairstyle and stuff…;P. And…Rainie, I just love her…she’s just hilarious. I think her performance was good…maybe some more work needed on the crying face tho, but so adorable at the contest thing ^-^!! Also…is it just me, or does Nikki Deng look a lot like Koala bear’s infatuation [aka piano teacher] in Let’s Go Watch Meteor Shower O___O? Wasn’t all that impressed with Lee Wei’s performance tho…he’s a good actor in that he made me hate him sooooo much, but seriously…does he have to have long hair?! =.=’ Just one more thing: MAGGIE WU! I <3 her when I watched Knock Knock Loving You, she doesn’t play a very big role, but the return of her makes me happy ^_^. She’s a good actress, so if you haven’t watched Knock Knock Loving You, I seriously suggest it (Dylan Kuo as eyecandy )

Favourite Moments:

1) DEFFFFFFS Da Lang’s pink panther dance XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! I LOVE it, I even taught it to me sister ….LOL

2) This is one of those NG scenes, where Xue Hai is doing his Da Lang face and when he rolls his head in anger, Rainie just bursts out laughing. It was hilarious, it took them 5 goes to get it right…without her bursting into laughter XD.

3) Every single time Bao Zhu hit Da Lang…his facial expressions are just XD!

4) Every time Da Lang tries to save Bao Zhu…and ends up being saved instead.

5) When Da Lang tells Bao Zhu that he likes her, and she kisses him (ARGHHH kawaiiiii ><!!) and then he sticks his foot out…reversal of roles XD.

Fear is a powerful emotion. It can make one irrational and illogical. What things cause you to fear? How do you respond to your fears? If you would be honest, fears usually make you throw out reason and you begin to rely on your senses rather than sensibilities.

Though God has promised His abiding presence to those who know Him, Christians still find themselves governed by fear rather than faith. Abraham allowed his fear to dominate him; in turn, he dropped faith and relied upon his ingenuity in the situation.

Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee. Gen 12:13 (KJV)

God had promised Abraham that He would bless Him. However, Abraham feared he would be killed because of his beautiful wife. Consequently, he relied on deception rather than on God for protection while in Egypt.

What situations are confronting you? Are you relying solely on yourself or on God who is faithful and gracious? Abraham’s reliance on himself nearly cost him his wife. When you turn from faith to fear, you will not rely on God; you will rely on yourself, which is subject to failure. Why not stand on the One who cannot fail.

There area many wondrous, enigmatic and fascinating attractions on the Big Island of Hawaii, some better known than others, many out of the way and generally off the beaten track.  Tour Guide Hawaii has produced an encyclopedic collection of the most up-to-date information, presented as short GPS-cued videos, in an app downloadable to iPhone and iPod Touch that covers the entire Big Island, highlighting the popular and the uncrowded, the famous and the secluded, the adventurous and the relaxing.

Under a fascinating, beautiful, lacey canopy of monkeypod trees, lava casts of ohi’a trees stand as monuments to a fast-moving pahoehoe lava flow that passed through here in 1790.

Contained within the Nanawale Forest Reserve, south of Pahoa and just off Highway 132 between mile markers 2 and 3, Lava Trees State Monument is open free, daily from dawn to dusk. Hiking in the park is relaxing and interesting, showcasing the native Hawaiian plants and trees, the forest birds as well as the fascinating Lava Trees themselves

The lava trees formed when the liquid lava, at about 2000° F, came in contact with the cool, wet ohi’a trees.  A quickly-cooled coating of lava congealed around the trees and buried them to a depth of as much as 11 feet.  The original trees burned away, but their hollow casts stand today, so perfectly molded inside that imprints of the tree bark remain. The rest of the flow passed on, perhaps draining away down the numerous cracks in this area that formed contemporaneously with the flows; one of the cracks which likely drained the lava away is still visible, just left of the restrooms.

Lava Trees Park offers trails to hike and a restful, bird-filled jungle to sit and listen to.  You can spend between 20 minutes to an hour wandering the trails, here, exploring and discovering.  Be careful, however, the area is riddled with hidden cracks in the ground which can make exploring hazardous.

Facilities include picnic tables and a barbecue, trails, drinking water and restrooms. You may wish to avail yourself of the restrooms at Lava Tree State Monument; no matter which direction you go after leaving the Park, they are the last public facilities for some distance.
