Cecil is the name of my current writing book. I sat in a coffee shop and brain vomited into it today. These are not serious (or sensical).

Scribble One – “Slow Heartbeat”

Snow, slow, white, uncaring, cold, hate, love, wet, the skull, the skull, the skull, the skull, what are you doing, what’s wrong with you, alone, alone, not alone, can’t pass, won’t pass, wall, gate, bars, fort, safety, mirror, mirror, mindscape, library, tomes, tombs, bleak, stone, heart, thud thud, thud thud, steam, life, clockwork, watch, time, sand, get’s everywhere, blood, life, ephemeral, ethereal, not real, what is, beret, coffee, baguette, bread, Holly!, cat, rat, duck, muck, brown, brown, brown, grey, metal, steal, steel?, gone, glass, reflect, think, ponder, purge, drip, drip, drip, ice, water, cold, uncaring, white, slow, snow.

Scribble Two – Stream of Consciousness #?

It’s been awhile since I went to think, to think, to think and I love the echo of repetition in my head like a drum or a heartbeat that can be slow or fast or hurried, rushed, rushed, rushed, but that’s the state of the world and who am I to try and fight it except the person for the job because I’m such a slacker that you’re jealous of because it’s the American way to compete in schedule and heartbreak because you’re not American unless you are up to your eyeballs in prestige and debt, which makes me wonder if they are connected and I swear pretentious beret guy keeps staring at me doubt he has much of either or maybe its the girl in white with the mac which assures me she has both but that’s stereotyping but what do you expect she bought the name but this drink tastes awesome and I should name it so I can walk to the front of the line and say, “Hey, I want a Minty Hess,” and the barista will swoon a bit (‘cept Becca because I can’t imagine her swooning) because both I and my drink radiate awesome, which is blood in a different inside-joke that I and two others know and I wrote that to alienate you whoever you are because the lady in red isn’t just in the Matrix because she just walked by, and I’m pretty sure beret boy is looking at her but it’s possible he’s still staring at me because I radiate blood (awesome, do try and keep up) but I’m also a god-damned ninja because Katie (you don’t know her) still hasn’t seen me, but that’s okay besides she’s busy swooning like the barista would when I order a Minty Hess because, yes, I do live in my own head.

Two Milwaukee police officers are being credited with saving a woman from a burning home. Officer Je

Two Milwaukee police officers are being credited with saving a woman from a burning home. Officer Jerry Whiteley was on duty and Officer Ken Cecil was off duty. The two just happened to drive by 3rd and Locust at the same time Friday and saw heavy smoke coming from the home. Whiteley used his police radio to notify the fire department.

The two men knew someone could be inside and in need of help so they ran in. “I came in low and pushed the door open. Officer Whiteley had by back holding my jacket in case I went down,” explained Cecil.

The heat was so intense, the flames were growing and the smoke was so intense they could barely see in front of them. But, they could see a woman’s feet as she stood in the dining room. She would respond to their calls.

“She was frozen. Whether it was fear or lack of oxygen because of the smoke. She wasn’t taking another step without guidance. We had to grab one hand and arm each of us and help her out,” the two explained.

When they got the woman out they said her head was smoldering and her hair had been singed. She had inhaled a lot of smoke. The officers later learned the woman was at home alone and suffers from mental illness.

The victim’s family is grateful to these officers. “If they didn’t do that, if they didn’t drive by she probably wouldn’t have been saved,” said the victim’s sister Shelia Buchanan.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

ADELINA / ALINA – originea numelui este “Adal” (“nobil” in germana veche). ADINA – originea nu

ADELINA / ALINA – originea numelui este “Adal” (“nobil” in germana veche).

AURORA / AURICA – in limba latina inseamna “zori / rasarit”.

CALIN – prenume tipic românesc probabil lumea vegetala.

Reynard

THE stacks of the National Sporting Library continue to yield colorful tales from the hunt field. Today we have anecdotes from two familiar hunting characters known for their color: Hugh Cecil Lowther, the fifth Earl of Lonsdale who was known as “the Yellow Earl,” and the red fox, also known as Reynard.

The Yellow Earl

Hugh Lowther unexpectedly inherited his title as Earl of Lonsdale, and all the riches and lands that came with it, after his older brother St. George died in 1882. At age 25, he had free rein to indulge his love of horses and hunting, and he did, in very fine style, as recounted in Douglas Sutherland’s hugely entertaining biography, The Yellow Earl:

“His hunters had to submit to … rigorous standards: not less than 16 hands, 6 feet round at the girth, and 8 3/4 inches of bone.

“Soon the lavish stabling behind Carlton House Terrace was filled to overflowing and additional accommodation had to be rented in the vast Police stables at Scotland Yard. Barleythorpe, the luxurious twenty-bedroomed hunting-box which Hugh had inherited in Rutland, vied with Squire Abingdon’s stables both in the numbers and the quality of horses he kept there. It was not long, however, before he discovered new and even more extravagant ways of impressing himself on a startled Society. In the days when the fashion for liveried servants and dandified dressing had largely fallen out of vogue, Hugh Lonsdale set a standard of colorful perfection with his turn-outs, which, almost overnight, became one of the sights in London. All the Lonsdale servants were dressed in canary-yellow jackets with dark-blue facings, white beaver hats and white buckskin breeches. …

“His six-inch cigars were specially made to his order, and christened by a gratified toacconist ‘Lonsdales.’ The cigar became almost as much his trademark as the perfect white gardenias which he wore in his buttonhole, and which were sent to him daily regardless of cost wherever he might be.”

The Yellow Earl’s carriages also were a bright yellow. His personal life was equally flashy. Lonsdale had affairs with the actress Lily Langtry and the married stage actress Violet Cameron; the latter situation was deemed scandalous enough that Queen Victoria made it known that Lord Lonsdale should leave England. He went to Canada and embarked on “a 3,000-mile trek across the frozen wastes.” He initially took four springer spaniels and his valet with him, but, fortunately for the spaniels and the servant, Lonsdale sent them back home again when he realized how daunting the Canadian tundra is.

Showy though he was, Lonsdale was an excellent horseman and an expert hound man who held Masterships at the Quorn, Cottesmore, and Woodland Pytchley.

Of his riding:

“Once when he was out hunting with the Quorn he was taking a line of country he had not followed for some time,” reports Sutherland. “Putting his horse at a post-and-rail fence with a shallow ditch at the other side, he was not aware until he was too far committed that another fence, topped with a strand of wire, had been erected a yard on the far side of the dutch. Collecting his horse he cleared the entire obstacle. When it was measured afterwards, the length of the jump was found to be 32 feet.”

Lord Lonsdale's 32-foot jump

Lord Lonsdale had a lot to say about hounds, too, and he was not afraid to advise huntsmen. In 1908, he wrote to the Cottesmore huntsman, Gillson, after the man had been there a year, offering him some tips on relating to the hounds:

“… I should like to see you a little more demonstrative and to converse to your hounds on the way to covert. Noe that you are a professional receiving a salary for hunting them, but that you are glad and pleased and delighted to see them, talking to them as you go to the meet, and showing each one that you take a personal interest in him or her. Speak to them, whistle to them, and let them understand every word and sign. If you are at exercise canter along and stop short, giving some sign by mouth or whistle, and make friends of them and get off and pat them when they are doing what you want–more can be done this way than in any other, and if you do it continually no whips are needed–pointers, sheep-dogs, retrievers–all animals–are the same–they are all amenable to sound, providing that it is always the same sound or signal. …

“You must talk to your hounds with your mouth inclined towards them, not the back of your head, for your speed through the air reduces the sound by half, so please remember my wish when casting: always wait before cantering away, until your hounds realize that you are about to be off; convey some private signal that they will understand.”

The Red Fox

Much has been written about the wiles of the red fox, and the 19th century sporting writer “Cecil” has some of the best accounts I’ve heard. Two favorites:

“His lordship was informed that that a fox had been seen constantly in a field of turnips on Hatch Warren Farm, and was induced to go in search of him; the hounds had spread all over the field without touching upon him. Not being accustomed to find foxes in such situations, very probably they did not draw well. As the land seemed alive with partridges, it did not appear likely that the fox was there; and Lord Gifford was in the act of taking his horn out of the case to call the hounds away, when the fox jumped up within fifty yards of the spot; a singular instance of concord between the fox and the feathered tribe. …

“I have often known known hounds to run their fox to a certain point with a good scent, and lose him instantaneously, as if he had vanished into ethereal space. On those occasions, it is evident they must have gained some unaccountable place of safety, to which the hounds had not the power of scenting them. I remember hearing of an event which occurred with the justly celebrated Mr. Meynell’s hounds, which shows the great patience, perseverance, talent, and keen-sightedness for which he was so eminently distinguished, and also what extraordinary places foxes will sometimes seek for refuge.

“They were drawing a gorse covert, when a single hound, that could be relied upon, spoke. ‘That will do,’ exclaimed Mr. Meynell; but the hounds could make nothing of it. They were drawn round again to the place where the single hound had spoken; but they could not roust him out. Still persevering, I believe upwards of two hours, the field became impatient, and the greater portion went home. At length, holding a consultation with Raven, his huntsman, he inquired the exact spot where the hound spoke, which was close to a bush that he pointed to.

“‘Then get off and examine it,’ said Mr. Meynell. It was a low bush or stump of a tree which leaned over the gorse, and in which was an old magpie’s nest, where the fox had rolled himself up and was peeping over the side of the nest at the proceedings below.”

I’m just beige. Boring. Normal. I tune out the rest of the world with music, I ignore everyone through reading, I hide away in my room every night doing homework, I write as I please and then scrap the idea ten seconds later. I have no significant quality that can amaze people, enthrall them, or even to relate to them. I spend more time in my room than I do anywhere else. I spend more time doing homework then hanging with my friends. I have no social life, and yet here I am, alive, well and sane. How does that work?

Normal people go insane from spending too much time on their own. They start talking to themselves and then they get kicked to the asylum and then forgotten. I guess I would count as forgotten. In my house, my door never open, no one bothers me. Ever. I could be screaming and I would never be heard. It’s just the way my life works, the way it always have. I’ve always lived up to my parents expectations. Doing well in school, never doing drugs, all the junk. And yet their star child is my sister who gets the most attention of everyone. The only time I get some kind of attention is if I do badly in school. I guess it’s reflexive for me to try to do my best in school, and maybe that’s why I shy away from too much attention. I wear black 24/7 to blend into the background, and yet half the time, I’m trying to be heard, by my peers or by my family. Forgotten. That’s the word for me.

A.K.A. Final Fantasy II circa 1991. MOST. AWESOME. GAME. Ever …. Anyone who has ever played

A.K.A. Final Fantasy II circa 1991.

MOST. AWESOME. GAME. Ever ….

Anyone who has ever played this game…. SNES, perhaps?… will know what I’m saying. Better than Myst. Better than Nethack (I just keep dying). Better than Sims. Arguments can commence now, but in my experience… FFIV is the most enjoyable game I’ve ever played.

So much so that I’m searching a working SNES console and the original cartridge for FFII. on eBay of course. A few years ago, you could find a SNES for $20. Now, I think it’s going for over $50. A hefty sum for an outdated system.

Anyway, Final Fantasy II or IV (as released on the Nintendo DS with updated graphics) has an amazing storyline with the most memorable characters ever. Remember when Cecil becomes a Paladin? Remember Palom and Parom? Kain? Tellah? Rosa? Rydia? I wanted to name my future child Rydia when I was 7 years old. And of course… the Chocobos.

Oh, yeah… and the music is absolutely phenomenal.

I can’t get into the story because there is too much and to talk about it wouldn’t do it justice. Playing the game, however, would. Just watch this video:

RATING:	8 / 10

REVIEW:

Truly a fast-paced book that you just can’t dare keep down for the fear that you’ll miss out on something in the few seconds that it will take to continue reading it.

The mystery is so very mysterious that I finished the book in a matter of hours and was relieved to find the mystery unveiled and all the puzzle pieces fitted into place. The suspense is unnerving, and the plot keeps thickening at a regular pace; it is well nigh impossible to keep from biting your nails in anticipation of what will happen next.

The latter part of the book is kinda the unwrapping of the entire suspense that has been built up in the former half and the whole thing has been so brilliantly put that even after the story gets over, it leaves you with a sense of an adrenaline rush.

DESCRIPTION:

‘Fear is the Key has a plot that will require a lot of willpower to stop you looking at the last page.’ Sunday Mirror

A sunken DC-3 lies on the Caribbean floor. It’s cargo: ten million, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in gold ingots, emeralds and uncut diamonds guarded by the remains of two men, a wife and a very small son. The fortune is there for the taking, and ready to grab it are a blue-blooded oilman with his own offshore rig, a gangster so cold and independent that even the Mafia couldn’t do business with him and a hired assassin. Against them stands one man, and the skeletons in their watery grave are his people. His name is Talbot, and he will avenge their murders.

‘Excitement and violence … the pace never slackens.’ Scotsman

If you still haven’t made plans for Halloween, there is plenty to do right here in Monroe Town

If you still haven’t made plans for Halloween, there is plenty to do right here in Monroe Township. Here are some places you may want to consider, rather than staying home watching scary movies:

Williamstown High School will hold their award-winning 15th Annual “Haunted High School” on Friday, October 30 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is a great chance for local parents to bring their children who are in the fourth grade or younger, out for some safe pre-Halloween fun! Candy and decorations are donated by the students, staff, and even residents of the community.

Leave the kids at home for this one! The Williamstown VFW Post 1616 is having a Halloween Costume Party on October 31 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. There will be food, beer, music, and prizes! If you call Sandy Kammer at (856) 697-9582 or the VFW Post at (856) 728-0760 in advance, the tickets are $15.00, otherwise they are $20.00 at the door. Call Sandy or the post to find out more!

Hogbin’s Nursery is holding its first ever haunted hayride! “Hogbin’s Haunted Hollow Hayride” has been in operation since October 2, and will continue until this Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Ticket prices are set at $15.00 for adults ages 13+, and $10.00 for children 12 and under. Large crowds need to call ahead! It sounds pretty good, and since it is so close to home – why not?

FINALLY! The Halloween Parade, after being postponed twice, will take place on this Saturday, October 31! As stated before, the Halloween Parade will include floats, a costume contest, local police and fire departments, candy, and according to Jim Bonder of the Parks and Recreation Committee, there will be a EAGLES PEP BAND! The parade starts in the CVS Parking lot at 7 p.m. and marches down Main St., ending at Church St.

If you can’t make it to these events, don’t worry! There will be plenty of trick-or-treaters knocking on your door Saturday, Oct. 31. Monroe Township has mandated a specified trick-or-treat time from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., but because Halloween is on a Saturday this year, you may get a few early birds. Curfew is strictly enforced, so keep your kids safe and have them inside by curfew! (Curfew is until 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30)

No kids? No candy? Head over to our neighboring township’s Regal Cinemas and United Artist movie theaters. Hollywood has you covered this Halloween with movies like SAW VI, The Stepfather, and Paranormal Activity!

Check back in a few days for ghoulish information!

That’s all I’m saying right now. Until then, happy haunting!

David Purcey returned for the Jays tonight. Unfortunately, his command didn't.

While I was busy watching football and forgetting the Jays existed the past two days, they managed to drop a pair of games in Detroit to settle for a split of their four-game set at Comerica. Ricky Romero’s late-season implosion continued in a 7-2 loss yesterday and Jason Frasor blew a 5-2 ninth inning lead in a 6-5 loss in 10 tonight.

Adam Lind hit a three-run homer in a five-run sixth in tonight’s loss, upping his RBI total to 100 on his 29th blast of the year. David Purcey returned from exile to toss five-and-two-thirds, giving up five hits, two runs and — surpsrise, surprise — four walks. No shocker there.

As for Romero, it’s getting tough to see him get lit late in the season. Yesterday’s ten-hit, four-run outing bumped his ERA to 4.22 and dropped his record to 12-8, all but eliminating him from the Rookie of the Year picture. At 154 innings, it might be time to go the Brett Cecil and Marc Rzepczynski route and shut the kid down. All in all, a fine rookie year.

Sarah, in utter puzzlement after I finish sprouting nonsense: “Where did I find you?”

Gym instructor: “Let’s turn to the other side of the room, where there’s a better view. Unfortunately, it’s not summer yet so there aren’t any half-naked good looking men…. What?!?!?? Why do you think I keep on asking for this venue?!?!”

Paul: “I broke the key! We’ll just have to wrap cellotape around it.
Me: “Hmm. We’re going to have to wrap something around it.. Something that’ll make it turn. Like cellotape!”
Paul, to everyone else: “Excuse her. She’s a little slow.”

Simon: “My best friend’s in my room right now as we speak. And she’s great. Wait, you guys do realize I’m talking about my computer.”

Quizmaster: “Which country invented badminton?”
Alice: “Weak wrists, weak wrists. Which nation’s got weak wrists?!?!? England!”

Quizmaster: “Which fool wrote Beijing as an answer to the geographically centermost capital city in EUROPE?!?!?”

Noelle: “I was marking HIV/AIDS questionnaires this morning and for the question ‘name two STIs (Sexually transmitted infections)’, someone wrote menstruation.”

Keith: “I unfortunately didn’t get to taste any of the wine. But that’s probably better. Want ek drink nie – ek suip!”

Irene: “I’m fat. What are you? …What!??!? I’m trying to give you quotes here!”

Someone, on their achievements: “I’ve been farting for the last hour. What have you been up to?”

Dirk, while we were talking about the Boerewors Curtain: “Then there’s the Lentil Curtain – you know, where all the greeny/hippy/organic types live”.

Simon, trying to justify his request to sit in the front row at the cinemas: “Then we get to see everything before everyone else!”

An engineer, while leaving Up: “I mean, the physics was all wrong- every time something flew, I kinda cringed! But it was a great movie! “

Lydia, while we were talking about Up, to Lauren: “Oh, were you there when the trailers were being shown backwards?”
Ciffy: “So it was like ‘PU’, ‘coming down soon’ ?

Ciffy: “The air circulation on the bus was so bad it was like stepping into a fungi farm. You could just feel the mould growing all over your body!”

Lauren, and her Afrikaans: “And there was the gembak. I mean gembok there.”
Someone: “S. You’re leaving out the s. It’s gemsbok!”

Irene: “I can’t wait to run that mountain path by Paradyskloof.”
Cecil: “Mountain path? What mountain path?”
Irene: “The one you told me about?”
Cecil: “Oooooh. Oh, I don’t think anyone’s ever called that a mountain path again. Then again, it’s never had you run on it before.”

Carin: “Why is that bench still on the stage?”
Rob, drily: “Gravity.”

Petrie, after listening to all the BA jokes: “Us engineers are in the fortunate position of being able to make jokes about ourselves knowing that one day we will be able to support our families”.

Petrie, talking about multiple deurnags: “The BP ladies loved us. ‘Cause after 12, we were the only ones that came in sober.”

Someone, overhearing me go through the dessert menu: “Oh, are you lactose intolerant?”
Me: “No, actually just lactose sensitive.”
Simon, butting me: “She’s actually just fussy.”
Me: “I’m going to punch you.”
Simon: “Fussy and violent.”

But then…
Simon: “I’m going to take the tomato sauce bottle and whack you over the head with it. Then people will see you bleeding but just think it’s tomato sauce!”

Cano and Damon, celebrating a clutch win

To quote former Blue Jay great A.J. Burnett, “Why? Why? Why? Why?”. Why does Cito still feel the need to sit Adam Lind against lefties? Why pinch hit for Randy Ruiz when Jose Bautista and Raul Chavez are due up next? Why did Johnny Mac start in left field? Why is Kevin Millar still getting at-bats as a cleanup hitter? More importantly, why is Millar still even on this team? So many questions, so few answers.

It took the Jays and Yankees just short of four hours to complete a 6-4 game this afternoon — a New York win if you hadn’t yet figured it out. Brett Cecil was his shaky self, giving up seven hits and three runs in four-plus innings, and Casey Janssen and Scotty Downs did their part to let the Yanks extend a couple one-run leads in the later innings. Randy Ruiz hit his sixth homer twice — the first was reversed on the first ever home run review in Rogers Centre history in the second, though he followed with one that counted two innings later.

The win gives New York a 2-1 edge in the series and an 11-4 mark in the season series. The set wraps up tomorrow afternoon, with Brian Tallet and Sergio Mitre on the mound.
