Deck the halls! With a mere 19 days ’til Christmas, I finally settled down to watch last sea

Deck the halls!

With a mere 19 days ’til Christmas, I finally settled down to watch last season’s romantic-comedy-just-in-time-for-the-holidays, Four Christmases. Vince Vaughn’s character, Brad, finally takes his girlfriend home and, in the midst of yuletide merriment, she discovers that Brad legally changed his name – from Orlando. Brothers Denver and Dallas were introduced, and Brad explained that they were all named in a very Brooklyn Beckham-esque way. You’re forgiven, Brad. Posh, are you listening?

Speaking of the holidays, on my recent travels I heard tots answering to Lyle, Hugo, Mara and Cecily – or I suppose Sicily, but let’s hope it was the former.

As for movies, I’m dying to see Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in the upcoming Sherlock Holmes movie. While other girls were reading Anne of Green Gables, I was off in Victorian England, solving crimes with Holmes and Watson. There are already hints of franchise potential, not unlike Pirates of the Caribbean, which got me thinking – if Sparrow could pop as a boy’s name in the wake of Captain Jack, will this film have a similar impact? Sherlock and Holmes are out, and John is evergreen. But how ’bout Watson? I’ll be watching the boards!

Elsewhere in the blogosphere:

Sebastiane has been featuring classics with all of their international variations included. Think Andrew is a bit obvious? Try Dreves. Cathy and Cate don’t appeal? Call your daughter Catherine by the unusual short form Trine – or opt for the variant Cathereau;

My new favorite name of the week has to be Lillemor - also from Sebastiane’s site. I’ve been puzzled by the so-fashionable Moa in Sweden. Turns out Moa is a nickname for Lillemor, one that has eclipsed the original. Apparently Lillemor is considered stodgy by modern Swedes, but in the US? I think she’d offer an unexpected way to get to Lily – and fit just right with names like Eleanor, too;

Over at Names from Adam to Eve, Laura wrote of her love for Hester, nn Hettie. I’m a fan, too, so it is nice to see Hester get some love;

Bewildertrix spotted a newborn girl named Montanna Skye. It was an Aussie birth announcement, so maybe the parents don’t get the joke? Or did they vacation in Big Sky Country and … cancel that thought;

For Real Baby Names spotted a tot christened Basil Leif. I suspect he’ll be one of those guys who refuses to hand over his driver’s license for fear his friends will discover the L isn’t for Leon or Lawrence;

You’ve heard about New York’s just-released baby names of 2008 list, right?And Sophia and Jayden coming out on top? Check out the Nameberry post for details and discussion;

It’s that time again - Nymbler has released November’s Top 10 favorite names. They’re the usual suspects: Charlotte, Ava, Ella, Finn, Jack, Amelia, Claire, Henry, Grace and Benjamin.

But then there’s the far more interesting Top 5 Brand New Names:

A twist on Brianna and Riley, Briley;

The lovely Cosima;

Word name Fable, a choice almost single-handedly launched by blogger Girls Gone Child;

The literary Bronte;

Starbaby-inspired Nahla.

Speaking of starbabies, it was a busy week. Thanks to Celebrity Baby Blog for the heads up on the following:

Maya Rudolph welcomed Lucille, a little sister for Pearl - what a great sibset. Please leave a comment if you hear about the girls’ middle names;

Scrubs’ Judy Reyes welcomed Leila Rey. Leila is the new Hailey – it is impossible to say how many there really are thanks to Layla, Lailah, Leyla, Laila … But Rey is a clever nod towards mom’s surname;

Singer Lisa Loeb welcomed daughter Lyla Rose;

Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils welcomed his fifth child – son Maxime Phillipe. For those of you who don’t follow hockey, it’s mahr TAN. He’s from Montreal. Older siblings are Anthony, William, Jeremy and Anabelle Antoinette;

Also in the Wide World of Sports, Chunky soup pitchman/Philadelphia Eagle Donovan McNabb welcomed his fourth child. Son Devin James joins sisters Alexis and Sariah and brother Donovan;

Heavenly Joy! It’s a girl for music producer Rodney Jenkins and his wife, Joy Enriquez. It’s not only an exclamation, it’s her name.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading!

Good news for all of you Sacred Blacksmith fans! There’ll be a Cecily Dakimakura soon available!

Hmmm, looks really nice, I actually would buy it if I knew it wouldn’t cost around $100.00(DAMN) I still have yet to understand why these pillow case covers cost soooo much for being what they are. But it seems like the price isn’t keeping anyone from buying them…

Sadly I’m a bit behind on this anime…I’ve just gotten so into all of my other animes (Nyan Koi, Kampfer, Railgun, Natsu no Arashi) that I’ve kind of forgotten about this one…so I think I’ll catch up with it later today while I draw.

And for those not satisfied with the smaller images above, here are the sample images. Must warn that it is NSFW.

I was at the zoo a while back and I went to go visit the flamingos. I got there and all the pretty pink birds were doing their thing in the exibit standing on one foot, gracefully sticking their heads into the water, all that jazz. But smack dab in the center was a giant, white goose. He was just chillin’ in the middle of the flamingo exibit. I liked that goose more than I liked any of the flamingos. Why? Be cause he wasn’t hiding, or pretending to be a flamingo. He wasn’t trying to eat their food, he was just sitting in the middle of a whole bunch of pink birds, honking, proud to be who he was, a goose in the flamingo exibit. I look up to that goose as I try to be who I am in a crowd of people who may or may not be prettier than me, or smarter than me, or more interesting, (or whatever the reasons are that flamingos get a whole exhibit in the zoo and geese don’t.) And no matter what, I’m gonna keep honking and doing my thing because being different is the way to be : D So everyone today emulate that goose in the flamingo exhibit and be yourself no matter where you are or who you’re with.

Love, Cecily

What a weekend of gastronomic indulgence and relentless attention! I, for one, am ready to tuck into

What a weekend of gastronomic indulgence and relentless attention! I, for one, am ready to tuck into my stinky red bed for some serious napping and quiet reverie; the breakneck pace of our travels overwhelmed Lizzie and me. We spent Wednesday and Thursday at Grandma and Grandpa’s on the Cape, left Friday for Vermont, where we spent Friday night and Saturday, and left for New York on Sunday morning.

I realize, however, that most of you are more interested in reading a report about the meeting with our new cousin, Cecily, than having me regale you with tales of ort consumption. While I have absolutely no interest in the acquisition of yet another pug, this one isn’t terrible…and by that I mean, she has no obvious or overt mannerisms that would put me off my food or cause me to react in a violent sort of way. She seemed welcoming (maybe even genuinely glad to see us) and appropriately deferential to yours truly. As long as I am accorded the respect I rightfully deserve, then I have no reason to complain. Lizzie, of course, acted the perfect idiot with a lot of wiggling, wagging, and sniffing. They seemed to connect on some primal kind of “I’ve experienced birth and know the pain” female way, which personally, I find offensive. I also should mention, though it is of little consequence, that she is not unattractive. At any rate the three of us enjoyed walking on the beach and curling up on the couch for napping, so I would say that life was pretty much the same for me. I did note that by the time we left, Miss Cecily was developing a fairly strong fondness for me, not that I didn’t blame her. It certainly shows she has taste and the ability to recognize class and intelligence. So, as long as she remains deferential and obsequious, I will tolerate her presence in our family.

It remains to be seen how successful the next new acquisition will be.

Respectfully submitted,

Mason

I’ll be the first to admit I’m just about the biggest klutz you will ever meet. Ever. I’m not kiddin

I’ll be the first to admit I’m just about the biggest klutz you will ever meet. Ever. I’m not kidding. I’ve compiled a list of my least graceful falls and my most glorious wipeouts for your entertainment (because when they happen no one can stop laughing at me.)

5. Way back in freshman year of High School I was walking to gym class. I slipped in a little puddle of water and went down into the splits. A guy from my gym class was standing next to me. “Are you okay,” he asks. “Yeah,” I respond. “Are you sure?” “Yeah.” “Can I laugh at you?” I was slightly stunned by this but I stammered a reply in the affirmative. He then started to laugh louder than I have ever heard anyone laugh before. I get up and turn around and my object of affection at the time was standing right behind me barely able to stand he was laughing so hard.

4. Every year the six of us authors go Ice Skating together. Every year there is a “Most Graceful on the Ice” contest. Every year I win. This particular year however I was neck and neck falls-wise with Elle for most of the outing. (Except she totally caused one of my falls, so it really shouldn’t have counted) But anyways we decided to do a test to decide who won this year. Whoever was deemed most graceful in a final lap around the arena would win. Elle went first. She went around a little shakily but she didn’t fall. I was pretty sure I could beat her and FINALLY give up my title. Very close to the end a small child skated in front of me and I swerved to get out of the way causing me to fall spectacularly on the ice. I was unanimously voted “Most Graceful on the Ice.” Again.

3. In tenth grade, during European History three groups were having a debate. The boy I liked at the time was sitting between my friend and I and the other two groups were debating. I mouthed a question to her. She didn’t get it. I did it again. Again she didn’t understand what I was asking her. So I got up and went over to her desk. On the way there, I tripped over the back of the boy’s desk and fell flat on my face making a loud crashing sound. Everyone stopped talking and looked at me and my teacher was like “OH MY GOD CECILY ARE YOU OKAY?” I was lying on the floor laughing…

2. My dorm was having a potluck the other day, towards the end of the night there were about eight other people left cleaning up; four RAs, and four of my friends from my floor (our floor is very close, we scare away the other floors…) Anyways, we were cleaning up after the potluck and there was a binder on the floor. I slipped (while standing still, I’m not sure how) and caught myself… on a slippery binder. I proceeded to fall down, and almost pancaked my friend who was lying on the ground but I managed to twist myself around so I landed on the floor next to her instead. The only person in the room who could stop laughing long enough to ask if I was okay was my RA Teddy… This includes myself, I couldn’t get up for about a minute I was laughing so hard.

1. While walking to the dining hall tonight my friends and I were cracking inside jokes and laughing really, really hard. I slipped in a puddle but I managed to catch myself, on a pile of wet leaves… that then proceeded to slip out from under me. I fell sideways on the cement in front of my friends. According to viewers I “bounced” back up. No one stopped laughing until we entered the dining hall, at which point there was an intense debate about whether this one or #2 was more epic. This one won. (I then proceeded to tell this story to the current object of my affection and he laughed at me for quite sometime…)

Right now I am experiencing one of the most stressful moments of my life. I decided to start trying to get to the page fifteen minutes before my registration time. Good thing I did because it took five minutes to load the site and another four to log in and find the page I needed. I’m finally on the “register for course” page with all the classes I want to take listed with “register” selected in the pull down menu. In six minutes a single button push will determine the rest of my semester. There’s a myth that you can register five minutes before your scedualed time, it’s not true. I just checked. I’m not that worried about any of the classes except the Intro to Psych class my advisor recomended I take to improve my acting and directing. (that’s right I’m the theater nerd of the group) also if I don’t take it the only class i’m taking without the TH (theater by the way…) prefix is my core class. The section is entitled “Theater and Political Theory” and yes, I am getting a liberal arts education. Anyways, I’m holding my breath as the time ticks down to the last few seconds until I can press the “submit” button. YAY! I got in to all my classes : D Now I’m looking forward to next semester, possibly a little too much. I can’t forget I still have about a month left in this one. And winter break. I’m sure it will just fly by though!

The beauty of using contact paper in your dorm

So today, I was supposed to be writing a paper. Two actually. I decided to use that as an opportunity to organize and decorate my dorm. (because when avoiding paper writing you have to do SOMETHING productive, but god forbid you actually write the paper… don’t follow my advice on paper writing, I’m not that good at it) So anyways I did several things I thought were rather clever and I thought I’d share them with you.

1. You know those boxes that you brought everything to school in? If you still have them they make an excellent bedside table. Fiddle around with what you have to get one about the right size. Then since cardboard boxes aren’t that pretty I covered mine with an extra towel (really any sort of fabric would work perfectly) but since the towel didn’t cover the whole thing I covered the exposed bits with wrapping paper I had left over from when I was decorating my bulletin board. It looks fantastic, plus my desk is cleaner because I have more table space for things like my clock. THIS PROJECT WAS TOTALLY FREE! (if you don’t have boxes or paper it might cost like 3 or 4 bucks but still, it’s a table)

2. I got colored contact paper from Fred Meyer (It’s paper with a sticky back that is meant to be for covering shelves and stuff) and cut out shapes from it to put on my walls. It’s perfect for dorm walls because it’s sticky enough to stay but really easy to peel off. Since I’m a musical theater geek I used the quote “I think I’ll try defying gravity” from Wicked. Inspirational and it shows people who I am. (see photo above) I used a scrapbooking tool my mom had to make the letters perfect, but you could just as easily draw your own letters or print out big letters in a font you like and trace them. : D THIS PROJECT COST ME $6 (for the contact paper.)

3. I decorated my ceiling with glow in the dark stars. I’m only tall enough to touch the ceiling if I stand on my desk so they are concentrated over my desk but it looks fantastic. THIS PROJECT COST ME 5.25 (for 40 stars I splurged and got the sparkly ones)

4. I also twisted two strands of christmas lights together and put it around the top of my wall with painters tape (probably not the best way to hang them but hey it works) THIS PROJECT COST ME $5 (for the two light strands)

5. I organized everything so I would know where to find it, I find having a “random crap” box (or basket in my case) really helps with clutter. I’m pretty sure everyone has their own system for organization so I won’t go in to mine but make sure the things you need regularly are avalible and the things you never use are stored away. If you’d like me to make a post about organization let me know.

In all I had a lot of fun with this, hope you do too : D
Love,
Cecily

I wake up this lovely morning having gotten 7 out of 8 beautiful hours of sleep. The reason I didn’t get the 8th? We had the fire alarm set off at 2:30 am. I was sound asleep when my roommate Holly says “Cecily, Cecily wake up the fire alarm is going off.” My immediate response is “fuck” as i stumble out of bed and walk in a daze to the door where i grab shoes and hurry outside. Here’s what I’ve learned from this.
1. Be nice to your roommate; they might save you from a fire one day.
2. Always wear pants to bed in the winter. After seeing a couple guys freezing their asses off in their boxers outside waiting for the all clear call believe me I know.
3. Take the three seconds that it takes to grab a pair of shoes and slip them on, warm feet is worth a slightly slower evacuation time.
4. Take full advantage of the other dorms lounges. It’s warmer and more comfortable.
5. I realize you look dazed and confused and that you’re half asleep (don’t worry everyone else does too) that’s no reason not to use this as an opportunity to make friends, or flirt with potential boyfriends. You all have the same problem why not bond over it?

I wish you all much better luck in the fire alarm department than I’ve had.
Love, Cecily

We’re supposed to introduce ourselves but honestly I don’t quite know how to begin. I feel like I should say “hello” or something but it doesn’t quite sound right… Anyways I’m Cecily, I’m a freshman at a small liberal arts college in Oregon. My dad is a screenwriter and he taught me, when in doubt of what to write, use the hero’s journey, and since I’m the hero of my own life, I’ll try that.
The first step is “ordinary world,” I guess that would be back home. I’ve lived in Seattle, Washington my whole life, with my parents; I’m an only child. I’ve always been an imaginative kid. I wanted to be a writer all my formative years, and then my junior year of high school I discovered the theatre. After acting in one show and Assistant directing another I found my goal in life, to be a director. I should also probably mention everyone else here. I’ve been best friends with all the other authors since the end of 6th grade. However I was the only one to go to my high school. That means that freshman and sophomore year were beyond rough, but by junior year I had two groups of friends instead of one. I also LOVE throwing parties, but don’t picture me as your typical “party girl” cause I said that. I have never once provided alcohol at one of my parties and they are epic just the same. My favorites have been my 18th birthday party, it was Disney princess themed, and the murder mystery party I wrote.
I think the “Call to Adventure” came senior year, when I got my acceptance letter to my college and 6 others. At first I was sure I wanted to go to UW (that would be the “Refusal of the Call”) then I visited my college’s campus. This is where the advice part of this blog comes in, for all you still deciding where to go: VISIT CAMPUSES! It’s the only way to really know what kind of school is going to be right for you. My college is perfect for me because the Open Mic Nights are more popular than the dances and I’ve heard football players singing Owl City (awesome band BTW) songs out of my dorm room window.
In this part of a classic screen play the mentor gets introduced. I have no idea who this person would be because chronologically I haven’t actually crossed the threshold in to college at this point in my story yet. Maybe it was my dad when he said “Pick the school that’s right for you, no matter what the cost.” (Private schools though small and perfect for me, are quite expensive.)
THEN after much waiting I finally went to college for the first time and “crossed the threshold.” One of my other favorite parts about my college is that no one knew me before I got here. This means I got to ditch my reputation of being the nerdy shy girl and become a different person. Now I’ve left my past behind and I am considered confident, fashionable, and sweet, things that I’ve always been – it’s just never been recognized before; except by my friends whom I love dearly. : D For the “Tests, Allies and Enemies” portion of the story I’m seriously lacking in the enemy department, but I’ve made lots of friends here in the beautiful world of college, especially in my dorm and in the drama department.
I’m pretty sure you’ve come in to this story in progress because I have not yet “approached the inmost cave” or “Seized the sword.” But I have no doubt by the end of these 4 years I will have completed my personal hero’s journey and “Returned with the Elixir.”
There, now you might just know as much about me as I do about myself… Oh well, that means we can really go through this together.

Love,

Cecily

So, I decided to write again some things and of course my passion for anime revived:)) Luckily I have new names to add to my wishlist so today I present you the first episode of The Sacred Blacksmith.

The action takes place in the Independent Trading City Houseman, where there are knights serving and protecting the people. Is also the case of Cecily Cambell. First she seems to be in trouble when talking about protecting the city from an delusional armored man.

It’s the time for a misterious young man to enter the battle and to save the defenseless girl. From what we learn he is the most important blacksmith from that area.

Because her sword was destroyed, Cecily will look for the blacksmith to repair her weapon. Luke, that’s his name, will refuse. Cecily senses that she must prove she deserves a better weapon so when some demons are attacking the village she will step in. Just another excuse for Luke to save her.

This episode will show us the process of creating a magical katana by Luke which will be used in the battle with the demons.

The graphics are great, the characters well-created and I like the style of these series. can’t wait for the next episode.

Cecily is what you can call a moe character. Don’t you agree?
