With DJing there’s a tension between wanting to share your music with everyone and keeping it to yourself cause its fuck-off awesome and you want to be the only one who has/knows about.  That being said, I wanted to keep this one to myself but hell, I’m not going to get a chance to play it out anytime soon so here it is. The track is Armani XXXChange’s contribution to the new Adult Swim compilation ATL RMX. XXXchange is an absolute gem of a producer. Schooled in the DFA dungeon, he went on to produce the futuristic and filthy YoYoYoYoYo album as part of Spank Rock along with several breathtaking remixes for artists like Santogold Santigold and Thom Yorke. Remixing Cee Lo’s (yes THAT Cee Lo) “Hello Miss”, he turns the classy southern disco number into a dirty club gem. It starts out like something straight of Baltimore before getting itself an absolutely dirty bassline with killer leering vocals and the occasional disco string flourish. Quite simply, it is fuck-off awesome.

Not a collab I would’ve ever thought of, but a dope one nonetheless.  Royce is obviously heavy with his pen game and Cee-Lo, well, I’d go so far as to say he’s one of hip-hop’s most under appreciated lyricists and spitters ever.  Not to mention versatile.  I do love his singing voice plenty, but much like Andre 3000, I think their singing stuff is dope, but I really want them to get back to some good ol’ spitting, if only for just one album.

Luckily for us, Goodie Mob seems to be reunited and working together again, meanwhile we’re still waiting on that Slaughterhouse/Aftermath deal to be confirmed.

A few years ago, I was at this reggae store in Miami, just looking around, when I heard this raspy melodic voice talking to the clerk.  The dude was looking through the mixtape catalog with his back turned to me, and I was just thinking about how I wanted to check their mixtape selection too.  I wasn’t really paying much attention,  but when I heard that voice and realized that it was Cee-Lo, I was starstruck (I’m a big dork like that).  Still, I introduced myself and gave him props and thanks for the music.  He was hella humble and gave off this really cool vibe .  I’ve only dug his music more since that interaction.

I was listening to Outkast’s classic Aquemeni the other day – specifically the track “Liberation,” which is still my jam of all jams – and it got me thinking about Cee-Lo and how I hadn’t heard anything new from him in a while.  I decided to google his name, and I found some new music to my delight.

If you’ve also been wondering where Cee-Lo has been, here’s what I found out:  He’s been with the Good Time Guys.  Now, you’re probably wondering who The Good Time Guys are.  All I can tell you is that they consist of Cee-Lo, Ace, Hank and Mente (I don’t know who the dudes that aren’t Cee-Lo are).   That’s it.   Hopefully there’s some more info and music to come, cuz this tune is funky.
