Former 'Family Ties' Star Meredith Baxter: 'I'm A Lesbian'

NEW YORK, New York — Former “Family Ties” star Meredith Baxter has revealed she is gay.

Meredith, who starred as Michael J. Fox’s mother on the hit ’80s television show, confirmed the news to Matt Lauer on Wednesday’s “Today.”

I guess I wanted to… say that I’m a lesbian,” Meredith revealed on the NBC morning program. “It was a later-in-life recognition of that fact.”

Meredith, 62, has been living life as a lesbian for seven years and confirmed to Matt that she has been involved in a relationship for four years with contractor Nancy Locke. But it was only after becoming involved with another woman that Meredith realized why her three marriages to men didn’t work out.

I got involved with someone I never expected to get involved with and it was that kind of awakening and I never fought it because it was like, ‘Oh! I understand why I had the issues I had early in my life,’” Meredith said. “I had a great deal of difficulty connecting with men in relationships… Sometimes, I assumed I was a bad picker, which I was indeed, but I also was involved with people who made me think, ‘Oh, they’re the problem,’ because there were problems with the people I chose. It never occurred to me to think, ‘Oh, it’s me.’”

Meredith told Matt that sharing the news of her sexuality with her children, who range in age 25-42, was a lot easier than she expected.

The actress also revealed that her television family co-stars are aware she is gay.

“All my pals in ‘Family Ties’ know,” she said. “They all knew [when we had a reunion on 'Today' two years ago]. We all had dinners together and [TV husband], Michael Gross and his wife and Nancy and I go out, we’ve gone out many times. It’s all OK.”

Meredith said she and Nancy “live very out lives in Los Angeles” and the actress even went on a cruise with 1,200 lesbians not too long ago. But as for why she is speaking out now, Meredith said, in part, it was to share her story in her own words before a tabloid could put their spin on her life.

Govt-backed gay bar fails to attract customers

The idea was simple: Set up a bar to attract gay men and then use it to distribute information on AIDS/HIV prevention.

The media loved the idea – but all the attention kept the gay men away.

“They (gay men) refused to show up at the opening for fear of media exposure and potential discrimination,” said Zhang Jianbo, the bar’s founder and a local AIDS doctor in Dali, Yunnan province.

The bar, partially funded by the Dali Health Bureau in collaboration with two local anti-AIDS NGOs that Zhang heads, was meant to facilitate outreach efforts targeting groups facing a high HIV risk, particularly gay men.

Its opening was set for yesterday, World AIDS Day.

Zhang said intense media attention surprised him a lot.

“Had I known it, I would not have told the media,” he said.

Though there are gay bars in major cities in China, which experts estimate has 30 million homosexuals, including 20 million gay men, the one in Dali was dubbed “China’s first government-funded bar for AIDS control” and instantly got widespread media coverage.

“It’s understandable,” said Luke Zhao, executive editor of Beijing-based Gay Spot magazine. “Factors like government endorsement and support, gay men, HIV/AIDS, naturally made the gay bar so attractive to the press and the general public,” he told China Daily yesterday.

“As a long-term medical worker in HIV/AIDS prevention and control, I know how hard it is for us to reach these groups to promote self-protection messages like safe sex,” Zhang said.

He managed to establish contacts with more than 1,500 local gay men.

“To sustain and build more of that, I thought of opening a bar for regular get-togethers with them,” Zhang said.

“We could teach them about HIV/AIDS and how to protect themselves from it,” he said.

Now no one knows what will happen to a bar with no visitors or even a name.

“But it is at least a good signal that the government is beginning to pay attention to gay people as a vulnerable group facing HIV/AIDS and their health,” Zhao said.

The HIV/AIDS prevalence among gay men averages 6 percent in the country and same-sex transmission accounted for about one-third of new HIV infections last year, official tallies showed.

Jag skrev för ett par veckor sedan om att ett sex tape med Carmen Electra hade läckt ut på nätet. Det klippet som dök upp då var en introduktion till något väldigt lovande, men nu kom del två ut på nätet och kolla på den där skiten! Det hela var en reklam för någon Van Gils! Hur kan en människa bete sig så oetiskt och sjunka så lågt som Carmen och de andra medverkande gjorde? Förstår de inte hur mycket tid jag har lagt ner på att hitta hela filmen? Jag har hamnat efter i skolan, tappat kontakten med båda mina vänner, och som att det inte räcker så har jag struntat i all annan porr medan jag har varit ute efter den här inspelningen. Två veckor utan porr är som fyra veckor utan vatten, fast värre, för om man var tvungen att klara sig utan vatten skulle man i alla fall kunna dricka läsk. Vad ska jag göra utan porr? Ha sex på riktigt, eller?!

Alessandra Ambrosio pryder framsidan till den spanska (antar jag, varför skulle man skriva på spanska nån annanstans?) tidningen DT, och ibland räcker det med bara en sådan liten grej för att skriva ett inlägg. Varför ska man alltid behöva komplicera och hitta saker som är intressanta på riktigt när Alessandra finns? En vis man sade för flera år sedan till mig att de simplaste sakerna ofta är de mest givande, speciellt om de innehåller bilder på halvnakna kvinnor vars yrke endast handlar om att se bra ut. Jag förstod inte hur det var svar på vilken högskola jag skulle söka till, men de orden har följt mig genom åren och gjort mig till den maktsymbol som jag idag är. Tack, pappa!

För att komma till poängen så är Dwight en av världens bästa basketspelare och har nyligen vunnit en rättegång mot sin baby mama efter att hon har använt hans namn för att bli känd medan hon smutskastar honom. Domen säger att hon inte är tillåten att “using or publishing (orally, in writing, or otherwise), directly, indirectly or by innuendo, [Dwight's] name, nicknames, image, brand photographs, and/or likeness.” Kan man ens förbjuda någon från att yttra någon annans namn? Styrs USA av katolska kyrkan på 1300-talet? Jag borde skaffa ett sådant förbud mot svensk media, de pratar om mig alldeles för mycket. wtmfd hit och wtmfd dit. Kan de inte bara låta mig vara?

Kim Cattrall rep denies latest 'SATC' rift

A representative for Kim Cattrall has denied the latest rumours of a rift between the Sex And The City cast.

A recent report had implied that Cattrall and co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon were staying in separate hotels while filming the movie sequel in Morocco.

The newspaper also claimed that the cast were not socialising off camera.

However, a spokesperson for Cattrall (Samantha Jones) has told Gossip Cop that the story is “absolutely ridiculous”.

A source added that the cast were “having a great time together”.

Sex And The City 2 is scheduled for release next May.

China city government opens gay bar to fight AIDS

BEIJING (Reuters Life!) – A Chinese city with one of the nation’s highest rates of AIDS has opened a government-funded gay bar in an outreach effort that has stirred debate over the use of taxpayers’ money.The health department in Dali, a picturesque city on a lake in southwestern Yunnan province, funded the bar to reach out to China’s increasingly open gay community. Dali is one of the 10 cities in China most affected by AIDS.

Same-sex transmission accounts for about one-third of new HIV infections in China, the minister of health said this month.

“Some readers think that it’s a waste of taxpayer money, or an indirect endorsement of homosexual behavior,” the Beijing News said in an opinion piece on Monday, citing letters to the editor after it ran an article on the bar over the weekend.

“They think if there were another way to reach out to the gay community, it wouldn’t be necessary to open a bar.”

Founder Zhang Jianbo hopes that the bar will be a public gathering place for gay men, especially from rural villages, who used to gather in a patch of woods near the historic town.

The bar offers sex education and free condoms, in addition to companionship, Zhang said in an interview with the newspaper.

Though funded by the government, the bar is staffed by volunteers from a local non-government organization that works to prevent AIDS.

“Each year, the Dali city government spends 20,000 yuan ($2,929) on treatment drugs for AIDS. So if our bar succeeds in reducing transmission, our 120,000 yuan will be well-spend,” Jiang Anmin, deputy director of health in Dali, told the paper.

China’s gay community for decades lived in fear of discrimination and prejudice, with the earliest gay bars often the targets of police raids and closures while homosexuals often married women to avoid family and social pressures.

China now has about 100,000 known AIDS cases, but some health experts worry that HIV could spread easily among migrant workers and other hard-to-reach sectors. The government has switched to a strategy of outreach to the gay community, as part of efforts over the past few years to fight the spread of HIV.

“In the past the government relied on NGOs to reach out to the gay community,” Bing Lan, director of outreach organization Aibai, told Reuters.

“Now there’s a change, in that some local health bureaus feel they are able to reach out to the community themselves.”

But one unintended consequence of outreach efforts in parks, bars and bathhouses frequented by gay men, Bing said, is that some gay men now avoid those haunts for fear of being found out.

“Today I saw a blog, saying that when the bar in Dali has its official opening on World Aids Day, no-one will dare to go because there will be too many reporters there,” he said.

Ok, det kanske inte var så dramatiskt, men hon blev chockad och upprörd över att han, inte ens när hon sa sitt namn, visste vem hon är. Miley, jag förstår din ilska, men killen jobbar på Pop Burger av en anledning; han har ingen koll på vad som är viktigt. Kom till mig istället. Jag vet vem du är, Miley. Jag vet vilken musik du spelar in för stunden, vilka filmer du är med i, vilka trosor du har på dig just nu och vilka andra projekt du är involverad i. Tänk på det.

Jag läste nyligen om att Amy Winehouse har handlat julprydnader för £18 000. 18 000 pund är 206 685,56 kr enligt den första sidan på google när man söker efter “pounds to kr”. Föregående mening sponsras av Förbundet för Handikappade Internetanvändare. Hur fan har hon råd med det här? Hon har inte släppt ett album sedan 2006 och hennes hobbies de senaste åren har varit att knarka och att gå på rehab. Jag är inget geni (thank you, Captain Obvious!) men även jag förstår att knark och rehab kostar och att noll skivor sedan 2006 drar in noll kronor per skiva. Var får hon sina pengar ifrån? Kan det vara så att hon är hemligt sponsrad av Pakistans terroristorganisationer? Jag vet inte, så jag tänker inte hoppa till förhastade slutsatser. Det kan även vara kineserna.

Jag har inte riktigt följt vad som har hänt med Tiger Woods de senaste dagarna, men det är någonting om att han har varit med i en bilolycka från vilken hans flickvän, Elin Nordegren (ovan), räddade honom, för att sedan spöa honom med en golfklubba. Jag hittar inte ens på, det är de tre sakerna jag har läst när jag kollat runt efter nyheter som är intressanta på riktigt. Först och främst kan man inte få spö av sin flickvän. Det är i princip en av naturens grundlagar att man aldrig ska bli ihop med en tjej som kan spöa en. För det andra, varför slog hon honom? Ok, han förstörde bilen, men han är Tiger Woods, han kan köpa dig en exakt likadan fast med ett chassi av afrikansk människotand om du skulle vilja ha det. Nyheter som man inte läser ordentligt kan bli sjukt förvirrande ibland…

The world’s greatest golfer got into a little car accident outside his Florida home Friday morning at 2:25am. He was leaving his house when his Cadillac hit a fire hydrant and a tree. His lips were cut, and Windermere police chief Daniel Saylor said Woods’ wife, Elin Nordegren, used a golf club to smash out a back window and help Woods from the car.

The accident came two days after the National Enquirer published a story alleging that Woods had been seeing a New York night club hostess, and that they recently were together in Melbourne, where Woods competed in the Australian Masters.

Hmm Tiger, what were you doing leaving your house at 2am? Getting in line at Best Buy? Also, what the hell was your wife doing carrying a golf club?

Now, if only he was driving a Buick perhaps he could spin this into a publicity stunt….

If you’re over 21, you can now play slot machines based on two of your favorite shows, “American Idol” and “Sex and the City.”

Both slots were new releases at the 2009 Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. In “American Idol,” slot players can trigger a bonus round that lets them become one of three judges — Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi or Randy Jackson — and then plays video clips of past contestants, good AND bad.

According to Sphere.com, Paula Abdul was the lone holdout participant even BEFORE she announced she was leaving the show. Innnteresting.

Meanwhile, the “Sex and the City” slot machines are subtitled “Change of a Dress.” Clever, no? They feature bonus rounds that include video clips of all four women plus Mr. Big.

International Game Technology spokeswoman Julie Brown told Sphere, “There’s shoes and purses and lots of bling and big bonuses and the music track, and it’s a very interactive game.”

Jag insåg nyligen att modellen Miranda Kerr är ihop med Orlando Bloom, och jag vet inte riktigt hur jag ska ta det. För det första är det ett skämt att hon väljer honom före mig med tanke på att jag har älskat henne ända sedan jag såg den här bilden på henne, och för det andra att hon inte ens har nämnt Orlando för mig. Och vad har han att erbjuda henne? Har killen ens gjort någonting bra sedan Sagan om Ringen? Medan den nollan har latat sig har jag läst typ 150 högskolepoäng, startat wtmfd.com och samtidigt lyckats skapa en mäkta imponerande samling av högupplöst pornografi. Jag lovar, ingen av mina kompisar knäcker den. Och hon väljer Orlando? Vart är världen på väg?

Notis – tydligen är Thanksgiving så viktigt i USA att alla kändisar låser in sig med sina familjer och jag lämnas med skitnyheter (som de tre senaste inläggen) att skriva om. Well I say fuck’em! Förhoppningsvis kommer det roligare grejer snart, men gå med i gruppen på facebook så länge så har ditt liv lite mening i alla fall.

I sorta agree with people who say the media idealizes people. or something. Anyway, I’m talking about the mass placement of beautiful, decorated, and seemingly smart and confident people everywhere in the media. It’s true. obviously not everyone looks as perfect as the majority of the people saturating the media, but something about what the cameras and lighting and make up do for the scene just makes the media world seem so idealistic. This supposed ideal atmosphere gives people the illusion that this type of atmosphere really exists and these people are really as smart, classy, and natrual as they seem. I feel like if you saw someone all dolled up in make up and flashy clothes on the street and laughed to yourself ever, it wouldn’t be that different from what you’d see on the set of a photoshoot or movie.

It goes for the plots and events in movies and songs too. characters interactions are written so elegantly, and of course dramatically, and i think people are led to believe their life reflects that. People get into an argument and suddenly they are somehow led to believe they’re fighting some epic battle, with lives at stake, with tears and rage in everyones face, and cameras spotting those tears and rage. I think i’ve touched on this topic before, but it relates here as well

my new thought has to do with this as well, just with the actual people. let me make a diagram

1. media makes people seem smarter, more attractive, classier, frankly, less of a person. not so much in that it takes a regular person and makes them seem like more of any of those things (although it certainly does that too), but more in that it makes the world seem like it has more of these people, when in reality dumb, unattractive, not so classy people are at every turn. sure high-end people like that are around, but not as commonly as the media makes it seem

2 this leads to people having false images of the world. I feel like making the decorated people seem so far above real people makes people strive for achieving likeness with them. be it the fan that worships their idol as a god, the guy who isn’t satisfied without a supermodel girlfriend, or someone feeling embarassed by being associated with real people, which to them seem inferior.

In the end it just seems like the people in the media have no flaws or quirks. In reality they do, (unless i’m proven wrong by a flawless person, in which case i’ll let you know :p) The flaws and quirks are what make them human though. Media can transform people into inhuman, robotic tools.

Jag letade efter en rolig bild på Robbie Williams till det här inlägget och den jag hittade råkade innehålla Gisele Bundchen i underkläder. Hon har absolut ingenting att göra med artikeln, men kolla på henne. Man skulle kunna skriva om svenska kungafamiljernas släktträd under 1400-talet och ändå få människor intresserade av att läsa om man inkluderar den där kroppen. (Note to self: kom ihåg det här till examensarbetet!). Nyheten är att Robbie friade till sin flickvän Ayda Field på ett radioprogram.. igår? Jag tror att det var igår. Det var garanterat inte imorgon i alla fall. Hur som helst spelar det ingen roll för Robbie drev tydligen, och man måste älska en snubbe som under en livesändning får ett ja på frågan vill du gifta dig för att sedan säga att han drev. Killen har mer balls än Keno och Bingolotto kombinerat.

Sexiest Celebrity on TV - Cheryl Cole beats Katie Price

Cheryl Cole has topped a poll of 4825 people by Park Christmas Savings to find out who is the Sexiest Celebrity on TV.

She won by miles, picking up 49% of the overall vote. Peter Andre was next with 17% of the votes cast with X Factor hunk Danyl Johnson in third with 16%.

Katie Price was beaten by Stacey Solomon and only managed to secure 2 more votes than John and Edward. She finished in a disappointing fifth place.

Jamie Afro might have lost the X Factor deadlock but he picked up more votes than Lloyd Daniels and Olly Murs.

Holly Willoughby fans will be upset that she ended up in eleventh place so didn’t make the Top 10.
