i can't wait to see my friends when i get home. i probably should be nicer to them then this picture though, hmm? don't worry we're just joking around.

Tomorrow it will be two weeks until I go home. Tomorrow will also be Thanksgiving. It’s weird, celebrating a holiday in a country that already had their version of it. Heather’s setting up a buffet style dinner for a bunch of the students and Julia and I are helping out. Since I’m not that great of a cook I’m just bringing the drinks, making some biscuits, and making some cranberry Jell-O!

This is my first Thanksgiving away from any of my family at all. Technically Josh is family but you know what I mean. It was weird enough celebrating Halloween ( or not celebrating actually ) in 90 degree weather. But Thanksgiving? I’m glad we’re going home for Christmas because I think that would be too weird. They keep playing Christmas music all around the island and it just blows my mind.

We were at IGA the other day and a Celine Dion Christmas carol came on and Heather and I were just like, “please turn it off.” I don’t really think anyone’s in the mood down here. I don’t know if it’s the attitude of the island or the sheer face that you can’t go outside without frying yourself.

I don’t mean to be complaining. I guess it’s just hard to wrap my head around. Another thing that’s hard to grasp here is time. Because every day is exactly the same weather wise and heat wise, the weeks tend to blend into one another. It would be one thing if there was anything to do on the island except the four of five things that are here — but there’s not.

I was bummed I missed out on the orphanage this week because I wasn’t feeling well but it turns out the bus driver never even showed so I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. I love those kids and I will miss them when I come home for the holidays. I already promised them that I would go to Target and print out the pictures they’ve been taking on my camera. I think they were confused as to what Target was but they didn’t push it because they were just so excited. I love being able to let them use my one digital camera. They really seem to enjoy being the photographer, posing everyone and snapping images from their points of view. It really does give a whole new perspective.

Poor Josh is just so stressed about school. I hate that he doesn’t get to bed until like 2 am every night. I’ve been sleeping in the guest bedroom because I haven’t been feeling well and I always wake up when he comes to bed late. Thankfully he’s been understanding about that. I wish I could do more then just clean and cook and do my best to build his self esteem. I asked him the other day if there was something I could do to help and he said, “make me smarter so school is easier.” Honestly, he’s brilliant he just gets so down on himself. Medical school is not easy. It’s not supposed to be. But that doesn’t make it any less stressful.

I think the island itself makes it stressful as well. It’s hard not to feel closed off from the rest of the world down here. The only news we get is on the internet and that’s what we can find. The funny thing is that while Josh isn’t a fan of television, I think he’s starting to wish we had it even if it was just for the news. We’ll have it next term in our new apartment, but still. I am proud of us for going all these months without a TV though. I mean we have one, it just doesn’t turn on. Sure, I still watch some shows online but on an island where the most exciting thing to do is walk down the beach and play in the ocean it’s easy to waste your days in front of the screen.

I think I waste a lot of time on the computer, but at least then I’m trying to be productive instead of just watching someone else’s life.

Family and friends, I can’t wait to see you in two weeks and one day!

well, we’re here. it took us 5.75hours. we stopped 3 times because i insisted on recreating some of the highlights of celine’s performance. specifically, the one-legged air guitar ending in a lifted point-flex, point-flex. the calabasas 76 station got the left to right peace sign across my eyes, as i bobbed my head off beat, front teeth to chin. when i had to pee, and didn’t want to use the public restrooms i’d just borrow celine’s quick, little, grapevine steps around the car; totally solved the problem. the only time things got awkward was when i held her tyrannosaurus rex (1:17) move? HH and the beasts started barking at me to stop, locked me out of the car, and refused to let me in until i promised to cease my homage to miss dion.

i complied. but i must say, the ride was definitely not as fun. hmph. gobble gobble.

Essa com certeza é uma das músicas mais tristes já escritas na história da música moderna. Junte isso à um piano igualmente melancólico e a voz de Eric Carmen. Surpreendente. Carmen liderava uma banda chamada “Raspberries”, que fazia relativo sucesso com vários hits. A banda se desfez en 1975 e Eric lançou seu álbum de estréia, contendo a canção “All By Myself”.

A beleza desta canção é infindável. Carmen chegou até a incluir no meio de sua obra uma parte do “Concerto de Paino Nº2 em C (Dó) Menor” de Sergei Rachmaninoff, acreditando que a música estivesse em domínio público. Só esqueceram de avisar Eric que uma obra cai em domínio público mais ou menos 70 anos depois da morte do criador. Rachmaninoff morreu em 1943 (ou seja, nem hoje em dia estaria em domínio público).

Essa canção deve ser bem mais conhecia pela emocionada e poderosa interpretação de Celine Dion no seu álbum Falling into You, de 1996, conseguindo #4US e #6UK.

Ambas as versão são magníficas, um tesouro no mundo das power ballads e das músicas tristes e melancólicas…

A canção foi escrita pelo próprio Carmen (o que nos faz pensar que ele realmente sabe o que é solidão – talvez a separação do seu grupo Raspberries tenha inspirado a letra?). A produção ficou por conta de Carmen e Jimmy Ienner.

Το Buzzer Beater υπερήφανα ανακοινώνει την επιστροφή του!

Δεν μπορούμε να δώσουμε μεγάλες υποσχέσεις, αφού ο Ελληνικός Στρατός μας κρατάει ακόμα δέσμιους. Αλλά σίγουρα θα ξεπεράσουμε τα hits του google και φυσικά θα μεταφέρουμε όσο είναι δυνατόν, τα τελευταία πιο ασήμαντα αλλά και άκρως ενδιαφέροντα νέα από το μαγικό κόσμο του ΝΒΑ. Η αλήθεια είναι πως το blog θα μπορούσε να ανοίξει πολύ νωρίτερα αλλά η Art & Design Team δούλευε πυρετωδώς για τη δημιουργία του νέου header.

Η επιστροφή του Buzzer Beater θα ανεβάσει ακόμα πιο ψηλά τη δημοτικότητα του ΝΒΑ, κάτι που φαίνεται να χαροποίησε ιδιαίτερα τον David Stern.

Βλέποντας τους Nenad Krstic, Carlos Delfino, Carlos Arroyo, Jannero Pargo, Earl Boykins, Primoz Brezec, Brandon Jennings κ.α. να επιστρέφουν άτακτα στο ΝΒΑ αφού γνώρισαν από πρώτο χέρι την έλλειψη οργάνωσης στην Ευρώπη (συν πολλά ακόμα που θα τα αφήσουμε καρφιά για άλλα posts), δε θα μπορούσε να μη κάνει come back το Buzzer Beater από τη παραμεθόριο.

Κατ’αρχάς, έχουμε ηθική υποχρέωση να αφιερώσουμε το πρώτο βίντεο σε έναν από τους πρωτεργάτες για την επιτυχία του Buzzer Beater, τον Ron Artest. Ah i’ve missed blogging! I finally finished my essay and handed it in yesterday, and now maybe i’ll have some more time to blog more often haha. I forgot how addictive blogging could actually be.

This entry won’t go into anything too deep as i haven’t really had time for any deep, self-evaluating thoughts lately since the only thing that has been on my mind was the damn essay.  Well that’s not entirely true.

So i had such a random dream the other night, it was so weird and hard to explain? Haha, but long story short there were chinese celebrities in it… but the only one i remember is Moses Chan. And ever since i think my obsession with him has come back! I totally forgot how HOT he was!

As i said this entry is just gonna be a light-hearted one, so here’s a list of stuff that i’m currently in love with:

00. My unintended choice to live my life extended.

Maailman huippuevankelista ja Pastori Timo Närhi, Världens bästa Evangelist och Pastor Timo Närhi fyller 57 år idag. Timo är min älskade bror. Han predikar i Finland, Sverige, England, Etiopien, Albanien, Indien, i olika länder i Världen. Snart åker han till Syrien och predikar. Timo är en eldsjäl som brinner för det han gör. Enda sedan den dagen han blev frälst på Eskilstuna Lasarett år 1970, där han höll på att dö i kraftiga blödningar som forsade ur munnen, men där han bad till Jesus om frälsning, har han varit en sann kristen. Hans blodflöde ur munnen stoppade upp. Han såg att hela rummet blev ljust. Timo lovade att Jesus skulle få hela hans liv och hans hjärtas kärlek. Alla var förundrade inte minst läkarna. Ingen visste varför han blödde så kraftigt och hur det stoppade upp. Men Gud svarade på Timos bön. Han överlevde. I åratal har han varit Guds ambassadör på jorden. Timo är en av Pastorerna i Seinäjoki Pingstförsamling i Finland. Han är känd för att vara och predika där människorna finns. På gator, torg, Rockhändelser, Jazzfestivaler, Musikhändelser, Midsommarjippon i Finland, som samlar tio tusentals människor. Timo är en modig, frimodig, glad, karismatisk, radikal, utåtriktad karaktär. Han är Världens finaste, mest kärleksfulla Pastor. Timo är omtyckt av många!I hans hjärta brinner en sann kärlekseld till Jesus och till medmänniskorna. Han predikar med en sådan innerlighet och det han säger går rakt in i hjärtat. Man ser honom ofta predika under tårar. Det är Guds ord han predikar. Jag blir berörd varje gång han talar. Hans vänliga sätt, kärleksfulla agerande lämnar ingen oberörd. Han ber för sjuka också. Massor av människor har blivit helade på hans möten, eller genom bönedukar som han sänder till folk. Vidare genom bön i telefonen. Timo reser mycket och besöker olika församlingar i Skandinavien men även utomlands. Jag har alltid sett upp till honom. Timo lärde mej hur man ska nå människor, redan när jag var ung. Jag var på hans sommar outreach i Finland. Det var mitt livs bästa somrar. Jag har haft förmånen att följa Timos livsgärning och kan konstatera att han är så passionerad fortfarande, för Jesus och människor. Han har bevarat sin eldighet. Han lever nära Jesus, ber, läser bibeln mycket. Timo lever som han lär. Han är en sällsynt man. Jag hedrar Timo och beundrar honom djupt. Han är min förebild. Han når tusentals människor med det glada budskapet om Jesus Kristus.

-Timo du berikar världen. Du förgyller Världen. Världen vore en tommare plats om inte du fanns. Jag tackar Gud för dej och din livsgärning. Jag glömmer aldrig sommaren 2007,  när du besökte mej efter mitt andra bröstcanceråterfall. Du satt och grät i mitt kök, du var så berörd över att  jag hade överlevt cancern. Du fick ett löfte till mej från Gud. Det bevarar jag i mitt hjärta.

-Du är så godhjärtad, så unik, kärleksfull, mild, rar, omtänksam. Du pratar aldrig illa om någon. Om alla vore som dej, skulle världen vara en vackrare plats att leva på. Du är fantastisk. Den vackraste gnistrande diamanten. Du är skapelsens juvelkrona. Vet du att du har världens viktigaste och mest värdefulla arbete, du räddar liv, du förkunnar frälsning!

-Jag önskar dej Timo en fantastisk födelsedag, en oförglömlig sådan.

-Du vet väll om att du är värdefull, att du är viktig här och nu. Att du är älskad för din egen skull, för ingen annan är som du.

-Så hjärtliga gratulationer till Världens finaste bror, Pastor Timo Närhi på din 57 års dag. Må du och din vackra familj, din fina fru Rosa, barnen och barnbarnen ha en kanondag!
