I keep a gratitude journal and update it almost daily. It wouldn’t be hard for me to list out the things I am thankful for. But let’s give it a try, anyways.

I’m thankful for the family I was born into. The closest relatives I have in Houston is my mom’s first cousin, Tita Edith’s, family. Tita Edith’s kids, Anthony, Joanne, and Gino, are the cousins I grew up with and the cousins I will be connected to in the future. They’re pretty awesome human beings. Seeing them this past Thanksgiving was amazing and I’m thankful for them. We don’t see each other a lot, but I’m trying to change that and become more involved.

I’m thankful for the family I chose. I was able to see my great friend Chloe. Her mom and step dad were Mr. and Mrs. Clause for the Uptown Park Lighting Festival. Her husband, Chris, couldn’t go, because he recently had surgery on his collar bone and  going through crowds wouldn’t have been smart. Chloe’s great Uncle George couldn’t go either, because of the crowds, as well. He has a walker and it would have been hard to navigate through the crowd. So Chloe invited me. I hadn’t seen her in awhile, since school has been taking up my life. And it was awesome to see her. She is one of the nursing school friends I am working hard to keep.

Afterwards, I spent the night at Jackie’s. Her family was having a late Thanksgiving dinner. Jackie has a sister, Eva, who I love dearly. She is the type of person who has such an open heart. She knows that I am important to Jackie and has welcomed me in their family whole heartedly. Jackie’s mom and dad have made me feel welcome as well. I’m glad I was able to spend time with them, too.

I had a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I had more than enough shares of turkey! And got to spend time with loved ones. The only time I spent alone was when I was driving.

I got my replacement phone today. It didn’t come with a SIM card, which defeated the purpose of getting my phone, but I just bought one at the TMobile store. I was able to get ahold of my loved ones through Google Voice. I had this phone number for my side business as a photographer. But it came in handy because I was able to text and make calls through the internet. If anyone needed to get ahold of me, they could text my Google Voice number and all the texts would go straight to my email. Pretty cool!

My great friend Lizzie’s wedding is tomorrow and I cannot wait to celebrate her and Nelson’s union. I asked many people to keep Lizzie and her baby in their prayers. And with the grace of God, she and her baby girl are doing well and are healthy! If that isn’t something to be thankful for, I don’t know what is.

When I woke up this morning, the first thing I saw was this angel’s face.
And having her in my life is absolutely a great blessing that I thank God for everyday. She has changed me in ways I could not fathom. I hope the start of the holiday season has treated you well.

Dear Ladies (and those men out there who pee sitting down),

I have learned a lesson my lovelies, my little love flies. Once again I have dropped my (2nd) cell phone in the toilet. I have gone all my cell phone years without any major mishaps and then two major ones in the span of less than a month. Lesson learned is this: Never stash your phone in your back pocket or if your going to do this learn how to pee standing up. Or, maybe always wear pants with back pocket flaps that close with a button or two. Well, if you are the wiser and already know of this cell phone no no, hooray. Maybe I can use your back up phone next time I drop mine in a toilet.

I was going into a new neighborhood to meet a date for dinner at his apartment. Also, random note, but I get extremely irritable of people touting the Android has a shitty camera and shitty music player. Don’t get me wrong, it DOES, but that is what an App store is for. Anyone with Android just search music and see what i mean, there’s like 5 upgraded players (i recommend TuneWiki) on the damn thing.

So what’re my recommendations?

Smartphones:Basically, if you are looking for multi-media, internet browsing and email/calander sync, and have google, i recommend Android (Palm is also cool if you are on Sprint). If you need hardcore business email, exchange support Blackberry is still fantastic (although WinMo 6.5 is at least getting updates). Note that Android does support Microsoft Exchange, but honestly if you want the safe, secure thing Blackberry is still the best bet.

Verizon: Moto Droid, Blackberry Tour if you need heavy exchange/business use.

Sprint: HTC Hero or Moment (I finally got to try out a moment, fairly impressive). Palm Pixi for first time smartphone users. Blackberry Tour for Business users.

AT&T- iPhone. Blackberry Bold 2 looks nice so far.

T-Mobile: Anything but a Sidekick. MyTouch 3G is still sweet and Cyanogen makes it even better.

And once you get a smartphone the key is customizing it, and making sure it does what you want it to. We were witnessing another typical OneBBO this morning. She was phoning Erika and asked her friend in a very angry and reproachful tone: “When will you finally answer the two SMS I sent you? My God, you lazy bitch, get your a…. off the chair and answer my questions!!!” Erika was surprised “Oh …. I didn’t know the SMS was from you. I was wondering from whom it came. I didn’t recognize the number.” OneBBO was red in the face, foam coming out of ears and mouth “NOT RECOGNIZE MY NUMBER??? What a stupid excuse, you blockhead! I’m sure you’ve programmed my number in and you CAN SEE MY NAME on the display.” Erika was still surprised “But the SMS arrived on my landline phone….”.
OneBBO shrivelled away like a little old potato (relatively speaking)…. “Oh did I send it to your main number by mistake?” Keeping her breath, and booming on “Well then you better learn my number by heart now that you know that I confuse the buttons on my cell phone now and again.”

What a typical OneBBO-style débâcle, chewing someone out for not answering SMS when she sent them to a Festnetz number where you can’t see the sender.
Obviously OneBBO was fully rehydrated again by the time I arrived this morning, she doesn’t look very shrivelled any more (rather the reverse WAAAAAAAAAH!), but it must have been worth seeing, like that scene from one of those Indiana Jones films when the bad guy picked the wrong cup to drink from thinking it was the Holy Grail and began to age at record speed, progressing to a shrivelled white-haired old man, then a skull with some tufts of yellow hair and finally crumbling to dust and being blown away.

A strange fundraising campaign has been launched by the Manitoba PC Party.  They are asking people to donate $10 for a “virtual cell phone” that will cover up part of a photo from Nov 2008 (a year ago) of Deputy Premier Rosann Wowchuk using her cell phone while driving, a shocking and rather stale example of NDP hypocrisy.

So of course, I needed to get a piece of that action.  I’ll get into that later…

I just don’t understand how these antics demonstrate that the Progressive Conservatives are ready to assume leadership of this province.  Their Chicken Wing Party of Manitoba of 2008 still has a Facebook page, and one can only hope that during its active phase it had more than the 30 members it has today.

Curtis has an unusual response to the latest PC campaign, while Cherenkov says what I think most of us are thinking.  So what would I have done better?  That’s a difficult question.  I can certainly understand the frustration that the PC party is feeling; as a Liberal, I’m frustrated, too.  The NDP have been responsible for some very serious scandals over the past decade, including mistakes that have cost lives, as well as an ongoing matter with Manitoba Hydro that could result in billions of dollars being lost.  But at the end of the day, many Manitobans are still supporting the NDP party.

I have a few ideas I’m working on for how to get Manitobans to start listening to alternatives, and I may try some of them out on this very blog.  But for the time being, I’ll just leave it at this: for anyone who donates a minimum of ten dollars to the Manitoba Liberal Party, and who e-mails or posts a comment to let me know (we can use the honour system and clever pseudonyms, since I won’t bother checking), I will add one package of Beef Jerky to cover up this banner for the PC Victory Fund.

He’s all for efficiency and saving both time and resources.  He’s no time thief.  On a daily basis, he asks himself “…for every decision [I] make, is this good for the company?  Am I helping with the company’s strategic vision?”

That’s great he is so committed to the company and what he does. But really, can he not take a five minute break for a little personal time?  We’ve all had that sinking suspicion that when we’re on the phone with him, something isn’t quite right.  There’s an odd echo.  His voice periodically sounds like he is straining.  You’re hearing noises that you shouldn’t hear on a regular phone call.  You wonder to yourself if the call signals got crossed.  Sadly no, your deepest and darkest fear has come true.  He has been multitasking while in the bathroom.

Although we’re sure (i.e. hope and pray) he washed his hands when he was done and used a hand wipe on his electronic gadgets, just to be in the free, don’t ask if you can use his phone or laptop.  And no sir, I will not shake your hand.  I have no interest in a 0.0000000001% chance of an inadvertent stink palm.

I have not watched Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) in a while but this time I started watching late in the season.  I love the Osbournes and routed for Kelly the whole way.  Until I watched Donnie Osmond’s first dance on Monday night.  Well I fell in love.  He won, Kelly came in third.  I am happy and well I will see how it goes with Season 10…  Watch or not to watch that is the question!?

Went to see New Moon this past week-end…  Not impressed.  I loved the book it was my fave of all four I read it in one day at the cottage.  The movie just didn’t do it justice!  Jake all the way for me peeps!  Not contest in my mind!  Love me some werewolves!

So, I am going to the One of a Kind show with  my Mother-in-law and Grandmother this Sunday!  I have not been in years, should be fun! 

Along with the One of a Kind we used to go to the Sugar Plum Fair every year at Casa Loma, it was the National Ballet of Canada’s major fundraiser.  Kinda miss it.  We always got these chocolate and caramel covered apples from a place called Treemendous apples.  I don’t know if they still exist!

I am really very sad that  Eastwick has been cancelled it was really the only new show this season that I liked. 

Jon and Kate plus Eight signed off on Monday night!  I am really sad!  I am going to miss that show quite a bit.  STOOPIT  Jon.  Criminal Minds and Vampire Diaries have moved into my fave show category although I am really leaning towards Table for 12 as a replacement and in the end I still have 18 (soon to be 19) Kids and Counting! 

It’s kinda funny that this season I didn’t watch too much of the reality TV, I have not watched Survivor, missed a few of the Hell’s Kitchen, got board with ANTM to the point I PVR’d it and skipped to the end every week so I could just see who got kicked off!  I am getting back to the dramas except when it comes to TLC.  Oh who am  I fooling, still watching the Housewives and Tori and Dean.  Still watching Canada’s Worst Driver!  I love it!  My newly discovered Rescue Ink is GREAT too!

Had lunch with an old friend and her puppy last Friday!  It was nice!  This time of the year is always good to reconnect!  

I miss my best friend we don’t see nearly enough of each other.  Lives are too busy!

June 2010 is looking like the end of it all for the one company-show for the iPhone carriers in the United States. AT&T will most likely try to extend this contract but so far, not looking too good. With Verizon earlier this month wanting Apple to sign over the iPhone, looks like they may be in the running after all.

With Verizon’s reports not looking as good as they should, I’m sure they’d be in dire wanting for the iPhone.

Now, the big question is, will the networks be able to update and support the iPhone bandwidth and technology to incorporate it into their networks? AT&T already had issues supporting the MMS and other higher-volume data packets needed to send your pictures, movies, events and such over the air. Also, another thing that ties up alot of bandwidth is iTunes downloads. AT&T didn’t at first have a strong enough networks to support all this but recently with some big upgrades, they are able to, or in a better position to. But, will the others? Verizon has a very far stretched network across the US and has 3G coverage in most places. With some upgrades to a very large network, is it going to be very costly, I would predict yes. A major upgrade scheme would cost millions, almost billions. It may not be necessary though, It might only take a little tweaking and some SIM cards thrown in to be able to have the iPhone. So, I want to know, what do you guys think?

I often wonder how people survived in the past without a cell phone. It is such a necessity in daily life. With a cell phone, you are so easily accessible to the world and I think it has made us unbelievably impatient.

I was watching an old Seinfeld episode called The Movie. Jerry’s plans get all mixed up because he couldn’t make his spot at the comedy club, so he has to go to the movie theater to let the gang know that he can’t make the movie. Before Jerry gets there, the movie gets sold out so they have to go to another movie theater, so George, Elaine, and Kramer separate and a chain of events assues. NEVER would have happened if they had a cell phone.

Another example. Sex and the City. Carrie turns 35. She shows up at the restaurant. No one is there. Hours later, she gives up and goes home. When she gets home, there are messages on her machine. So and so is late. There’s another restaurant with a similar name. Traffic is insane.

NEVER would have happened without a cell phone.

Of course, these are fiction. But it happens all the time, or at least, it used to. Now, if someone’s late, you pick up your cell phone, call them, and see where they are. Because of cell phones, no one would bother to wait hours to see if someone will show up or not. You will know within minutes if you will be stood up. It’s brutal.

I lost my cell phone less than 24 hours ago. It hasn’t been insufferable. I’m getting a replacement phone this Friday. I don’t necessarily feel unconnected. With the internet at my fingertips, it’s hard to feel unconnected. I can access my phone numbers online, so I can call people on my home phone if I need to.

I think tomorrow will be a different story. I will spend the majority of my time at my aunt’s house and not having a cell phone will be a bit difficult. It will just have to happen.

I was able to have breakfast with my friend Jia before she left for California! Even without a cell phone, I was able to get ahold of her. It was amazing to catch up with her. I hadn’t seen her in over a year, so it was nice to catch up. She’s definitely one of those friends who don’t have to know every single detail about each other’s lives, but when we get together, we talk about it, and it’s like we never spent 1.5 years apart.
