Allen missed Wednesday night’s 88-86 overtime win over the Hawks with swelling in his right ankle, the seventh game he’s missed with the injury over the last month.

The 36-year-old guard returned last week after receiving a cortisone shot and played in five games over seven nights, coming off the bench in four of them. Allen played 35 minutes in Boston’s 115-107 win in Miami on Tuesday, scoring nine points on 3-for-7 shooting. But head coach Doc Rivers was told Wednesday afternoon that the swelling had returned, and Allen would not be a go against the Hawks.

The Celtics have three games in three nights over the weekend – all on the road – and it is unknown if Allen will join the team for any of those contests.

Allen’s absence will be felt, but the return of Mickael Pietrus will help ease the loss. The swingman returned Wednesday after missing 10 games with a concussion, playing 29 minutes off the bench.

In 46 games this season, Allen has averaged 14.2 points while shooting 46-percent from the floor. The Celtics are 11-1 with Allen when Allen is out.
