The State Bank of Vietnam has hiked several key interest rates but narrowed the daily foreign exchange trading band.

With effect from December 1, the prime rate and recapitalization interest rate will go up to 8 percent from 7 percent and the discount interest rate to 6 percent from 5 percent.

The forex band has been reduced to ±3 percent from ±5 percent with effect from November 26.

These measures are meant to cope with the volatility in gold prices and rise in the dollar rate, SBV governor Nguyen Van Giau explained.

Following the changes, the greenback fell by 3.44 percent to stand around VND18,500, he said.

But this does not mean the central bank wants to weaken the dong and it is only a measure to strengthen control over credit growth and enable commercial banks to raise capital, he said.

Other measures under consideration include a hike in import tariffs on some items, limiting import of some non-essential goods to contain the trade deficit, and requesting for some large economic groups to sell foreign currencies to the central bank, he said.

Besides approving these measures, the Prime Minister also agreed that the interest subsidy for short-term loans would cease as planned with effect from December 31 and not be extended to the end of March 2010, he said.

Asked about the recent slowdown in the stock markets amidst a fear of a devaluation of the dong, Mr. Giau said the ultimate goal monetary policy changes is not to serve any single market but to boost economic growth, stabilize the economy, create more jobs, and increase the income of all sections of people.

A diretoria decidiu que os valores dos ingressos não serão alterados, ou seja, R$ 10 (arquibancada) e R$ 5 (sócio e estudante). As entradas já estão sendo vendidas nas bilheterias do Arruda.

I was on my way up to Seasons Fitness yesterday (17 Nov 09), when a relatively well-dressed PRC man stopped me at the lift, and asked whether I spoke Mandarin. With my limited understanding, he wanted to borrow $ off me so that he could stay 1 night at the Island Shang, having lost his friends and what-not. I asked him how much he needed, and told him flat out I was a brokeass and couldn’t possibly afford a night at the Shang at rack rate. He then asked to borrow 2k so he can at least find a less luxurious hotel. It was kind of cold last night, so I agreed…..

The whole time, he gave me his name card, got my number and called my cell straight away (Caller ID was “Call” indicating an overseas number) and kept asking me out to dinner the night after to return money. I told him he could return the money whenever once he gets himself sorted out, but to hell with dinner. Giving you money is one thing, but giving you MY TIME?… You’ve gotta be kidding.

I bank with HSBC, and only Citibank ATMs are available at the ICBC Tower. I was in a mad rush to hit the gym for 18:45 class, and wanted to get to a HSBC ATM quick to get everything over and done with. Up to this point, I still didn’t click, although what stroke me as odd, was how well he seemed to know his way around Central while claiming to be in HK for business only. He was able to point out the whereabouts of the ATMs for me, which was miles away.

I called my boyfriend to let him know I was running late for gym class, and told him what happened (against the wish of this borrower – he kept asking me not to tell my boyfriend to save him face… whatever..) just as I was getting cash out from the machine.

I was still on the phone while I was walking away from the ATM, and this PRC man immediately asked whether he could have the $ as he has to rush to TST to meet someone, somewhere or something.

All this time, my boyfriend was at the other end of the phone telling me a lot of people get conned around the area.

Well I figured… if this PRC guy had somewhere to go, or someone to meet at TST, it can’t be that bad, right? I’m sure he can get a roof over his head somehow, so I said, “Sorry mate, I have the cash with me, but I’ve decided I don’t want to lend it to you anymore…”

I’m VERY annoyed though. He wasted my precious workout time, damnit!!!

I googled “Con artist, Central, HK”, and see the EXACT SAME GUY. Eeww… *goose pimples everywhere*

Hi again, long long time no post!

Sorry that you have arrived at this blog since you wouldn’t be reading this unless you have been conned or you know of someone whom has been by Kevin Ong (his real name). I’m sure he’s under something else by now.

I have been busy moving on with my life this year and putting my past experiences with this fraudster behind me but I’m afraid after 9 years he is STILL AT LARGE in Hong Kong. Therefore I will try and update this as much as possible so that there is at least a record and others can be warned. He has ruined many lives and wiped out the savings of many innocent people and targets primarily WOMEN, though he will try anything he can to take your money. You will never see it again!

Although he has already been in jail this year, he was let out only after a couple of months, and according to my sources, has been back to his old evil ways ever since so WATCH OUT!

I was at at Central at Clarke Quay and was feeling a sudden hunger but was going to have dinner in a couple of hours so wanted to just have a snack.  As I an allergic to wheat, there are many things I can’t eat or I will end up with flatulence.  So I walked in this relatively new part at the basement of Central and was happy to see NANAMI SUISAN (I think it means Seven Seas Sea Produce in Japanese)  I was looking at the sushi selection at first but decided on some deep fried fish & chicken fillet etc.  So I picked a $3 pack that looked like what you’d get at most supermarkets. (Those take-away plastic packs sushi is packed in)  The cashier offered to heat them up for me after I told her I was going to have them there.

So here’s the part that impressed me.  I thought they were just going to heat up the food so I stood and waited but was told they’ll send me the food.  When the food came, it was presented as if I had ordered a set meal.  It came complete with Jap mayo, proper crockery and even a bowl of miso soup!  I was pleasantly surprised.  I got all that for just SGD3!

Perhaps it was due to the lack of human traffic that they provided such remarkable service.  But that’s exactly how you keep your customers and gain new ones.  The food quality was good and I will definitely be back there again.  Thumbs up Nanami!

The house I live in was built in 1953 and in the 60 years, a central vacuum system was installed. Having been discharged from A&E without incident, DC decided that we needed a second opinion and he took me to Imperial Herbal Restaurant at Vivocity to see the sinseh. For $10, the Chinese physician told me that my body was weak and I needed to eat more red meat and green vegetables, and that I needed to drink tonic soup. Nothing that my mother couldn’t tell me.

Nonetheless, we got me some soup and I had the cordycep soup which was rather tasty. It was good soup done the right way and my inner Cantonese girl thoroughly approved the strong broth and pleasant herbal flavour.

Now what I liked even more was the herbal menthol tea that the doctor provided for my persistent dry cough. The menthol was so strong that my nose cleared immediately and I had to close my eyes to avoid the fumes. It soothed my throat nicely, like a cough drop in liquid form.

Han cambiado las cosas en el fútbol argentino desde este Apertura…vaya que han cambiado…
Después de casi dos décadas de la gestión televisiva-y-algo-más de Torneos y Competencias, llegaron los nuevos vientos, oh alabados nuevos vientos, del acuerdo Estado-AFA por el cual el fútbol es para todos, siempre y cuando tengas canal 7…Eso no es tan fácil como parece desde la capital, sitio de escritura de estas líneas…En gran parte del país “el siete” es un canal más de cable pues los años de abandono de la TV estatal incluyen faltante de repetidoras, y faltan ciertamente en varias localidades, de diversos tamaños, a lo largo y ancho del territorio nacional.
Y eramos pocos…y todo es color de rosa…porque es el fútbol para todos, para todo el pueblo, oh demos gracias por ello…Y será que tiene que ser para todos, todo el día por la TV estatal durante el fin de semana -ahora con una merma, debido a que los partidos se han corrido hacia horarios nocturnos también algo insólitos-, y el show debe continuar, a cualquier precio porque es para todos…¿a cualquier precio? Pareciera que sí.
Repasando: la cuestión es simple, viendo como ocurrieron las cosas el pasado fin de semana. En la cancha de Huracán se jugó el clásico, el cuervo contra el globo, hubo graves disturbios, escasamente televisados, los gases lacrimógenos invadieron el estadio, todos corrieron al vestuario. Se dijo en pocos micrófonos sobre un agujero en la alambrada de la tribuna visitante, jamás se filmó, la historia se olvidó. Queda por decir una cosa: suerte que ganó San Lorenzo, sino todavía se estarían matando con la Policía. Esa policía que de repente se puso a reprimir bastante más de lo habitual: empezando por lo ocurrido en la entrada al recital de Viejas Locas, banda muy futbolera en varios aspectos, en escenario futbolero, con policía cual clásico y tremenda represión con una víctima cuasi fatal, no hace falta que se muera el pobre pibe para que la represión sea salvaje; después las fuertes peleas con hinchas de San Lorenzo en un clásico y de Rosario Central en el otro, y en un santiamén volvió la represión policial…
Uy, y el clásico…el Ñuls-Central…en la previa diversos desajustes, los típicos manejos de la barra canalla, las entradas de Arjona para ver el match, los colados, la represión policial con gases y balas de goma. Ya durante el partido la cosa daba bien para suspenderlo: desde el centro de la tribuna de central, ahí donde va la barra, volaron algunas cositas sobre el área defendida por Peratta, golero leproso. Y Sebastían primero se hizo el zonzo, calzandosé las gafas de sol que le arrojaron, después podría haber llamado a algún amigo con aquel teléfono celular que le cayó en su zona…pero ¿un cuchillo? No puede ser, no se puede hacer el tonto el árbitro, tomando el cuchillo (foto) con desparpajo, llevarlo a un lado y seguir con el partido. Por un lado, Peratta se tiene que ir, no se puede quedar bajo esas condiciones, pone en peligro su vida a esa altura, está muy claro. Y por otro, Abal se equivocó, él tiene que tomar la decisión de suspender un partido sin garantías para jugarse, como no las tenía tampoco el clásico jugado en Parque Patricios, así el show no debe continuar y el que se equivoca, con esto, es cómplice de la violencia, con lo que se convierte en un violento más: tan tonto no puede ser Abal, debe ser algo peor.
