Controversial Los Angeles Laker star Ron Artest is caught up in an investigation of welfare fraud against his sister Latoya Holmes-Ivey.

Police and housing authorities raided the home Latoya Holmes-Ivey and her three children rent at 336 E. Burgess Ave. Wednesday morning.

Holmes-Ivey is suspected of receiving federal housing assistance, as well as other social services, while receiving financial assistance from her millionaire basketball/rapper brother, and not reporting it.

That is welfare fraud, and is a criminal offense.

A tip came from a former CPA that handled Ron Artest financial affairs a Tennessee-based accounting firm called TriStar Sports and Entertainment.

According to court documents, the ex-employee sent an e-mail to the Housing and Urban Development Office in Indianapolis claiming that TriStar, under the direction of Artest, was using one of his bank accounts to pay all of Holmes-Ivey’s bills.

 The man requested to remain anonymous, saying that he could not, in good conscience, fail to report such an ethics infraction.

Ron Artest may want to check the wording in that non-disclosure form that I am certain the former accountant signed, as the accounting firm’s reputation has got to be destroyed by this leak. Confidentiality between their clients is key to their business.

If the former CPA did sign a non-disclosure form, then his disclosure of this information, even if it is to be found true, will be admissible in court, and will be the reason that all charges will be dropped.

 Housing authorities said that if the allegations are true, Holmes-Ivey would have used at least $34,000 in taxpayer money she was not entitled to. According to court documents, the ex-employee sent an e-mail to the Housing and Urban Development Office in Indianapolis claiming that TriStar, under the direction of Artest, was using one of his bank accounts to pay all of Holmes-Ivey’s bills.

Note that the investigation and any future charges will be against Holmes-Ivey and NOT Ron Artest. It is the responsibility of the benefactor of Federal aide to report any income or gifts to the Welfare department so they can determine if the individual is actually in need at that time.

The neighbors of Holmes-Ivey said they were skeptical of her, because she used to brag about who her brother was.

“I never understood why she was on assistance because of that, when she told me he was her brother,” said Marcia Taylor. “The people who do need the assistance don’t get it, when the people who don’t need it get a lot of time.”

None of the parties involved were available for any further comments on this matter.

The ten minute segment takes a look at a scene in the film when Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) fly together on Banshees for the first time. This is apparantly James Cameron’s favorite moment in the film.

I am slowly beginning to get excited to see Avatar. I still think the plot will be the weak link in the film, but in 3D this should look amazing. Mind you so far it just seems like one long cut scene in a video game.

However, it is good to see just how much work and technology went into making it.

I reworked the signage and textures on this ship the other day.  I like the way my most recent Enterprise model turned out, so I redid the textures for my “Phase II” Constitution-class to match the textures for the TOS Enterprise.  After all, I figure this is a Constitution-class variation from the 2260s, possibly built a few years before the refit of the Enterprise for TMP, and before they’d completely worked out the ConstitutionII-class (or Enterprise-class, if you prefer) from the movies.  Anywho, I finally got around to rendering some images of it yesterday.  I’ve always been a fan of this design, which is why I had to build one a few years ago.

A survey on the corporate governance standards of companies listed in Hong Kong conducted by The Hong Kong Institute of Directors (“HKIoD”) and Hong Kong Baptist University (“HKBU”) found a slight improvement in the quality of corporate governance practices of Hong Kong companies last year.

“The HKIoD Corporate Governance Score-card 2009″ survey is organised by HKIoD and executed by HKBU’s research team led by Professor Stephen Cheung, Chair Professor of Finance and Dean of  School of Business, and sponsored by the Corporate Governance Development Foundation Fund. The first report was published in 2004 and the latest set of findings is the third, which have shown improvement over the years.

Compared with the second Score-card published in 2006, the 146 companies studied on average achieved a 1.44% improvement in their Corporate Governance Index (“CGI”) score. As for the five areas “rights of shareholders”, “equitable treatment of shareholders”, “role of stakeholders”, “disclosure and transparency” and “board responsibilities” the first three improved notably whereas the last two had slightly lower CGI scores. Can anyone out there even remember how long it’s been since the original Mask film arrived in theatres? Well think of it this way. Jim Carrey was just starting to make a splash on the big screen and a little unknown actress named Cameron Diaz was cast as his love interest. The year was 1994.

Flash forward 11 painful years later and what are we left with. Probably the worst comic-book movie ever conceived and quite possibly the worst film I have seen in 5 years of covering the silver screen. It is that bad.

The sequel which bares little resemblance to the original finds Loki (Alan Cumming), creator of the Mask, banished to Earth to find his mask that has caused so much mischief. Loki’s father Odin (Bob Hoskins) is keeping a close eye on his disappointment of a son.

Meanwhile, cartoonist and would-be animator Tim Avery (Jamie Kennedy) is struggling to start a family with his eager wife, Tonya (Traylor Howard). Tim wants a big promotion at work before they have the baby Tonya has always wanted.

To make a long story short, Tim acquires the powers of the Mask and wows the big-wigs at work. After he scores big at work, Tim rushes home to make love to his wife but forgets to take off the mask. Thus we get “The Son of the Mask”.

Will Loki find Tim and his new son and finally regain his former glory and more importantly the mask? Will Tim ever find a happy ending?

Ok so the film has a plot, well, sort of.

What makes “Son of the Mask” so utterly painful to watch is how much it insults the audience that is watching this train wreck of a film. Every low-brow bathroom joke, bodily function and other things I don’t want to mention are passed off as rip-roaring comedy.

There is a sort of zany cartoon element to the child in the film who faces off against a “Mask-enhanced” dog for the father’s affection. But the whole scenario is so out of this world that it belongs in a cartoon. The scenario being played out in real-life and CGI just seems utterly wrong.

I can say for a fact there wasn’t anything I liked in this film. The acting was awful, the effects were in poor taste and nothing was funny.

I would suggest that if you have to relive the adventures of the Mask, stay home, lock the door, microwave some popcorn and rent the original. I shudder to think some people actually wanted to see this flick.

This is probably the worst film I have ever seen! And that includes all seven Deathstalker movies.

想了半天，搜了半天不得要领。

原来写了一个 C++ 的库，然后可以用它做我们想做的事情，进而为了在一个 perl 脚本中调用，写了 SWIG 做接口，命令行上测试完全没有问题了，于是很开心的转到 CGI 上面，却死活过不去，下面是一些技术要点：

• SWIG 等不谈了，参考前面的帖子。
• 如何静态编连一些库、动态编连另外一些库。本来是这样打算的，因为我写的那个库不大，就算全连接上去了也无所谓，这个对链接一个可执行程序有效，但是如果你希望做一个动态链接库却似乎不行。这一步需要用 gcc 的 -Wl 参数将某些连接器的参数传递过去，即 -Wl,-Bdynamic 和 -Wl,-Bstatic 加到 -l 参数前面。
• 如何检查 CGI 程序的问题。一般来说浏览器端看不到啥有用的信息，需要到 server 端，一般是 log/error.log 文件（有的放在 /var 里面），然后 tail -f 等着看就好了。通过这个可以断定出现问题是动态链接出错，不知道为啥，我直接修改 %ENV 没啥效果。
• 设置 LD_LIBRARY_PATH 让 ld.so 找到合适的动态链接库。嗯，通过 libtool 搞定的动态链接库放到其中一个目录就能用了。
• CGI 程序获得的环境变量不是 httpd 所有的环境变量，而是通过 mod_env 这个模块控制的，可以在 CGI 目录里面通过 PassEnv 传递对应的环境变量。

You guys know I find politics gross, but I really wanna talk about this clip, and there’s no way to do it without trudging through hot-button sludge. So here goes. A nickel-bag environmentalist group in England somehow rustled up the funds to produce the following clip, which is blue-filtered and moody and Bolero-like and melodramatic and artsy and all of the things that a good theater commercial should be. That’s right, I like commercials—that doesn’t make me a capitalist any more than a conscious effort to reduce my carbon footprint makes me a communist.

Fueled by blind, impotent rage, scores of resentful, self-imagined guardians of truth instantly responded to this new threat with a barrage of climate statistics and strange references to Al Gore.  This counteroffensive, however, will probably prove ineffective against the bears, which are computer-generated and not really falling from the sky. YouTube is not the front, and the comments sections are not the trenches. Get over yourselves. You’re taking all of the good out of it, and ruining it for the rest of us.

There will be blood.

The channel that I embedded from is called “adsoftheworldcom“, and the theme of the channel is not global warming or climate change or making fun of birthers, but rather—you guessed it—ads of the world. It’s seemingly a repository for cool ads. That’s why I thought the comments for this clip might break YouTube precedent and actually be about style and technique and approach. It was naive of me, I now realize, to expect that the invisible chains of relevance would hold. Again, I thought we could all just enjoy the fact that it really looks like there are polar bears falling out of the sky. Yeah, the factoid is specious and the mammal use is over-the-top sentimental. Yeah, the cause is too niche. But the jet engine SFX are synchronized well, and incongruous imagery is always a treat. Usually the comments are an amusing supplement to any popular YouTube video, but today they just made me feel like I was living in a social Dark Age.

PHP parece muy de moda ahora – con un número cada vez mayor de los ejércitos de internet que ofrece apoyo. Para los que sólo han oído hablar vagamente de ella y no están muy seguros de lo que es, este artículo describe PHP y de manera informal la compara con la escritura de los scripts CGI en Perl.

PHP es un servidor libre lenguaje de scripting. Puede ser incorporado en los servidores web como Apache y se puede utilizar para generar sus páginas de forma dinámica. Es probable que lo utilizaría en situaciones que de otro modo habría utilizado un script CGI para. 1. El lenguaje

En PHP, lo mismo se codificarán como sigue:

Nifty, ¿eh? Lo mismo ocurre con otras instalaciones como enviar o recuperar un documento a través de HTTP o FTP, etc A partir de PHP ha sido especialmente diseñado para un sitio web, las instalaciones que los diseñadores Web por lo general quiere en un lenguaje de script están integradas en él.

3. Generación de páginas web

Nótese que se ve exactamente como una página web, a excepción de la <? … ?> Bits, lo que incluye el script PHP. En este caso, lo único que queremos es que el guión a la salida dirección IP del visitante a la página, por lo tanto, usamos el “eco” de función. El entorno del servidor web REMOTE_ADDR variable es automáticamente a disposición de la secuencia de comandos PHP a través de una variable del mismo nombre (como lo son todas las variables de entorno y los demás insumos formulario).

Sin embargo, cuando menos visualmente no hay motivo de queja, como podemos ver en esta escena recientemente liberada, en donde vemos a uno de los personajes huyendo de la fauna local de Pandora. Si bien la acción es demasiado frenética como para pdoer captar detalles, lo que podemos observar de la criatura es bastante realista, por lo que podemos decir que el primer objetivo, que es hacer creíble ese mundo, está totalmente cumplido.

Partly Cloudy is a Pixar CGI animated short film directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Kevin Reher. It was shown in theaters before Up. Watch the EXCLUSIVE video.

James Cameron was on 60 minutes last night talking about his sci-fi epic, Avatar. Here is the segment with lots of clips from the film and behind the scenes stuff.

Eric Powell recently spoke to CBR about his excellent comic book, The Goon. He went on to give an update on the film adaption – The last I heard Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti were possibly voicing The Goon and Frankie.

Hpromised that his deal with director David Fincher and CG animation specialists Blur Studios was moving forward strongly. “I just finished writing the script a few months back, and Blur is working on a lot of test stuff. Fincher is working on a film right now, so we’re waiting for him to get some space so we can start showing some of this stuff off. I’m pretty happy with everything so far. We’ve just got to work to get to the next point. This is a slow, long process.”

While he couldn’t confirm whether or not Fincher would direct the final product or be credited as a producer, Powell said, “David’s going to be heavily involved. I’ve worked with him and Blur quite a bit to get the screenplay together, and it’s been a great experience so far.” He added that this specific deal is keeping him much more involved with the screen life of his property than many other comic creators have gotten.

“I think it’s a choice where, if you’re getting a giant paycheck from a major studio to adapt your book and get Brad Pitt as the lead or whatever, then they kind of take it away from you because they’ve invested so much. But when you’re doing something that’s more about the material and less about a big event, they give you the opportunity to be more involved. And that’s your choice,” Powell said. “Some guys are like, ‘Just give me the check and you do what you want with it.’ But I’ve worked so long on ‘The Goon’ and I’m not creating a new book every month. I’m kind of using the Mike Mignola/Jeff Smith approach where you get your book out there and maintain it. I’ve got a lot invested in this on character, so I wanted to be involved. And they were eager to have me involved, so it worked out very well.”

This is a 6-minute CGI short done by writer/director Lucas Martell.  The film, “Pigeon: Impossible” took nearly 5 years to complete and the detail shows it.  This is Martell’s first attempt at CGI animation and it’s a solid performance that leaves his viewers standing in line for more.

Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard is the sequel by Luc Besson to Arthur and the Invisibles.It is out on 10th December 2009.

I haven’t done an “Image of the Day” for a while, so here’s one.  In retrospect, I guess I could have called these “Image Every Once in a While.” 

When I originally made this background, I thought it looked like a bright star.  Then I rendered the ship in and did a lot of post-render work (which made the start brighter) and I realized it looks like a start that’s perhaps too bright.  Like, say, one that’s going to go Nova pretty soon.  Hence, the image title. 

A superb CGI mashup of Doctor Who and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I really enjoyed this movie and it’s not just for kids, adults will love it too.

It’s like Shrek, where there’s a wicked sense of humor mixed with romance, adventure and awesome 50’s hits music.

I’m definitely going to buy the soundtrack when it comes out.

I loved 50’s rock n roll and that’s what this movie is about.

The good old 50’s where the village of aliens, is invaded by a human astronaut.

They argue about who is the alien then the little green guy LEM has to rescue his friend before it’s too late and his brain gets removed for scientific experiments.

Roland Emmerich’s disaster flick 2012 is a traumatic experience. The earth surface cracks; hot lava explodes into the air; merciless tidal waves flood entire cities; the North and South Poles reverse; the earth’s crust shifts as the core bubbles. It’s fire and brimstone, people! Now, as I lounge in front of the fireplace in the quiet, rural town of Staunton, Virginia, the wall clock ticking peacefully in the background, I can imagine the waters of the Atlantic ocean hurtling over the Blue Ridge mountains in the distance into our fair valley washing me away in an instant. According to the Mayans, this exact scenario will occur in two years. Nowhere is safe. Not Virginia. Not even Wisconsin. There’s nothing we can do but repent and meet our maker. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m storing up my lethal dose of morphine now.

How is all this death and destruction depicted on the silver screen? CGI, of course. I may be old-fashioned, but, to me, computer generated images are cartoon-like and unrealistic. Watching a video game that you can’t control really isn’t that fun. This movie isn’t a lot of fun either, even with addition of real live actors like John Cusack and Woody Harrelson. The fantastic, intricate models of vintage George Lucas made films more realistic–not to mention better for the economy. Think about all the sets and costumes that had to be manufactured! 2012 could have been a public works project for the recession. At least it would have had more impact that way.

I think people are getting tired of CGI, and low-budget, box-office surprises like Paranormal Activity are a testament to that. There are a few scenes at the end of 2012 that are shot tight and close in digital video with a handheld camera, and these are the most frightening and compelling. Computer images are merely crude simulations of reality. Reality is much, much scarier.

I Was Born Under Unusual Circumstances

A story that is unusual stirs our deep well curiosity. A taste of dew in solitary wickedness. There is this strangeness in everyone of us that makes us interesting individuals, but this case of Benjamin Button makes me enter into a world of what ifs…

Released on Christmas day 2008, this American film directed by David Fincher, written by Eric Roth stars Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Julia Ormond and an award winning performance of best supporting actress Taraji P. Henson.

The script is loosely adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1921 interesting tale of the same title that is anthologized in his book, “The Tales of the Jazz Age”.

After the end of the Great War in 1918, Benjamin Button (Pitt) is born into this world with the appearance of an 86 year old. His mother died shortly after his birth, to avoid shame his father left him in the porch of a home for the aged where Queenie (Henson) adopted him and gave him a home.

His story is told by Caroline (Ormond), as he reads aloud Benjamin’s diary inserted by postcards and photographs to her mother Daisy (Blanchett) in her deathbed request in a New Orleans hospital during the disaster Katrina in August 2005. 

As Caroline narrates Benjamin’s story, her voice segues into the latter as flashbacks of Benjamin’s life is depicted on the screen. Like the poetic narration, the film’s tranquil earthen tones gave the film a dim edgy feel. With the excellent use of CGI and make-up, the sorrowful tone of the film makes its cinematography fascinating. But what is the point of this picture?

It is a story of love and loss of Benjamin and Daisy. Also an 86 minute epic of wonderland cinematic joyride because there is no such historical account like that of Benjamin’s. 

But Benjamin, Fitzgerald and Fincher have one thing in common; they knew the wonders of strangeness. Every sunrise and sunsets are individuals, like them stories possess a different beauty everyday. And we know that there is no endless narrative if we put two unusual things together because it blasts curiosity, and stories not just happens, it is threaded; we sew our own dreams.

Benjamin Button is a symbol of will and hope, his desire to taste life is overflowing. His wonders in brothels and bars and wars make him a stronger person, with a more panoramic view about life.

You could tell that the film is just a ride, but Daisy knows the truth. Somethings do last

Benjamin: I was thinking how nothing lasts, and what a shame that is. 
Daisy: Some things last.

And in the end, Benjamin’s body became younger until he suffers dementia, Daisy finding him, stayed with him and nurses him… in 2003, baby Benjamin Button died in the hands of good old Daisy. She never forgets that Benjamin remembers her as the beautiful soul looks into her eyes before he passed away.

Hurricane Katrina shuts the electricity in the hospital, Caroline goes out of the room to inquire about the plight, Daisy all alone in her deathbed wishes to see Benjamin and saw this hummingbird in the window. 

Director David Leo Fincher adds this movie to his dark and stylish résumé. Cinema will always be cinema [verite] I supposed, the story do counts but the possibilities are the ones that really matter.

The moments I have watching the film are speck of experiences that has the power to let me remember that good moments are the ones that count. And please do remember to send postcards to the ones you love if you’ll be away. Remember Daisy… some things do really last.
