Ya es oficial, vuelven Chacho Brodas con nuevo disco bajo el brazo. Se llamará Date Cuenta, tendrá 13 temas y saldrá durante el mes de Junio. Actualmente la formación de Los Impresentables la forman Griffi, Lil Trappy, Tremendo, Aqeel y Quiroga.

Definitivamente cierto, Sólo los solo se separan. Nos temíamos lo pero al ver que no sacaban noticias, ni maxi ni por supuesto LP desde el año 2005.

La separación viene dada por la libertad y la libre necesidad de abrirse a proyectos nuevos e individuales. No nos quedamos sin nada de ellos, porque aunque por separado sabremos de ellos.

Ya que no todo son noticias malas, Juan Solo ya tiene en marcha su nuevo LP, y ha decidido controlar todos los detalles, es decir, control del disco, estreno y su producción.

Por otro lado, Griffi seguirá al pie del cañón de la factoría “Del Palo”, y con su proyecto con Chacho Brodas, que publicarán disco en breve con Tremendo, M’Baka, Aqeel y Quiroga.

Aquí os dejamos video para que los podamos despedir a lo grande.

Muchos de los asiduos a este festival ya temían por la edición del 2008. Apuntaba a retrasos, posible no realización en esta 4ª Edición, pero finalmente ya os pudimos dar el respeto, el festival también se realiza este año.

Hot Point Festival 2008 se realizará el 4 de Octubre localizándose en el Anfiteatro Carlos Cano de Maracena (Granda). Aunque en la última noticia aún no se sabía mucho de las actuaciones, ahora podemos serviros el primer cartel que comprende a artistas y grupos de la talla de 7 Notas 7 Colores, Shotta, Duo Kie, Chacho Brodas, Spanish Fly, El cerebro & Campeón, Quilate y Kalifa. Desconocemos hasta que punto este cartel puede ampliarse aún, pero podemos añadir que este 4 de Octubre también habrá Zona de Graffiti y de Breakdance, así como una Batalla de Freestyles a la que os podéis inscribir según las instrucciones en el siguiento documento.

El precio de entradas este año, para el único día de festival será de 20€ si las compráis de forma anticipada y 25€ en taquilla. Os dejamos con el cartel.

I literally just got home from seeing Chacho Brodas and Shotta at the Forum, as part of the BAM festival which coincides every year with Las Festas de la Mercé.

It was looking like I wasn’t gonna make it. I mean, weeks ago, when I first found out about the show, it was a lock. I was so ’bout it, there won’t no way I wasn’t gonna be there. But knowing that Belén (like 99.9% of my friends here) doesn’t share my enthusiasm for el hip-hop nacional, I had thought about trying to recruit some folk to go with me.

Specifically, I was considering reaching out to the oft-neglected “TEFL teacher” sector of my social circle, you know, sending out a mass e-mail inviting a bunch of young English and/or American and/or South African-or-Australian-or-whatever chicks (’cause they’re almost all chicks) fresh off the plane to Barcelona to come with me.

Then I thought better of it. First off, my experience with these sorts of “TEFL outings” is that you get together with all these folk and you sometimes find that the only thing you have in common with these people is the fact you speak English. And sometimes the difference in dialects and slanguage and what not still keep you from feeling at home in a linguistic sense. So then you’re just like, “What? You breathe oxygen? Oh my god, me too! I can’t believe it!” (Feel free to repeat the phrase “Oh my god!” about a million times, with as many different intonations as possible).

Secondly, you never wanna be That Guy who invites a bunch of people to some event, assuring them that it’s gonna be the shit, and then it’s turns out that they’re just like, “Uh. Whatever.” So yeah, aside from my homegirl Amanda (who I’ve known for awhile and who spent a year at NC State, so we have, like, that Raleigh connection and stuff) I decided not to holler at nobody.

So Friday night rolls around and, as happens every year in La Mercé, it’s raining. I start thinking, “Do I really wanna stand out in the rain to see this concert?” I call up Amanda and she’s got some other engagement going on. No big deal. I poke my head outside, it appears the rain has cleared up. So I’m like, “Fuck it. I’m rollin’ dolo. Comando style.”

I decided to bike it down there. Not a short trip by any means but real, real flat, so no problems. Of course, within five minutes of me leaving the house, it starts to rain, not pouring but not just a drizzle, either. With my hoodie on, warming up with some Shotta on the MP3 player, biking down the Gran Via getting soaked, I felt like Rocky Balboa. Or maybe Little Mac from Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out. Right around the time I got to Glòries and picked up the bike lane on Diagonal, it had stopped raining and I was golden.

All day long I’d had a mysterious compulsion to make the trip by bike, not really sure why or where it came from. When I arrived at the Forum, right there near the Metro stop, I remembered. The yellow line (L4) during La Mercé es el puto infierno. I remember the first time I went with my friends Pedro and Ayda, packed in like sardines, with all these young-ass little kids shouting and drinking calimocho and just general obnoxiousness on the part of everybody in the world, extremely claustrophobic and with a distinct odor of musty underarms, nine or ten stops from Urquinaona to Forum in those conditions, I was like, “nunca más, ¿okei?”.

So I get there, park my bike, and walk into this bar with a sign out front saying “Bar.” Outside there’s a table with a bunch of “average joe” type gentlemen, drinking beers and eating their sausages and cheese and whatever else, and inside the same, all bathed in glorious flourescent light. I asked the bartender, a nice Indian or Pakistani fellow, for a beer, and I sat there for a second drinking my beer at a medium pace and trying to dry off a little bit, eavesdropping meanwhile on the locals sitting next to me at the bar. Shortly afterwards began the stream of young girls asking for Martini or Absolut, some of them ordering drinks in plastic cups, others just buying whole bottles. Whatever it takes to catch a buzz at normal, non-festival prices before stepping into the realm of the €5 cup of beer.

I finished my beer and made my way into the Forum complex, and at this point it had started raining again. I passed the security check and headed straight for the stage where I figured Shotta had already started (the schedule I has seen said he went on at 11:30).

When I got closer I heard that it wasn’t Shotta, but rather Chacho Brodas playing. I hadn’t seen them yet live. I was not disappointed. I am (I was? Did they break up? I don’t know) a huge fan of Sólo Los Solo, where Chacho mastermind Griffi made his name, and I wasn’t expecting the show to hit me in the same spot as the SLS show at Sidecar (different vibe, different circumstances, different group), but it definitely hit me. Griffi doing his thing with the MPC and the turntables and busting out the tambourine, Quiroga on the keys and backing vocals, Aqeel singin’ his ass off, M’Baka Oko aka Bass Basilio aka Li’l Trappy as the hype man, and Tremendo m.c.-in’. Hot shit.

Chacho Brodas

I did notice that there wasn’t nearly as many people as there were for SFDK in last year’s BAM–that shit was absurd the number of people they had out there. Surely that’s partly because of the rain, but also because, for some reason, the Del Palo crew doesn’t seem to command the same level of mass popularity or acclaim as groups like SFDK, or Violadores del Verso (overrated, in my opinion).

Which is a damn shame, ’cause I’ll tell you something: take or leave the vocal side of it (I’ll always prefer Juan Solo to Tremendo, to be honest), Chacho Brodas is sonnin’ the vast majority of cats makin’ records today, US, Spain, whatever. The first album has some bangers, some of which they played (“Nasty”, “Yayaya”, “Mierda Comercial”), but it wasn’t quite the mindblower I’d expected when it came out last year. On the other hand, some of the new shit they played (maybe tracks from the Aqeel CD that I inexplicably slept on?) was on some other level. Hotness. During the show it started raining again, but I didn’t even give a fuck.

After the Chacho Brodas set, there was a brief intermission with a DJ which gave me just enough time to buy the obligatory €5 beer before Shotta came out. Evidently, they made a change in the schedule, which turned out to be a good idea, ’cause there was way more people for his set. Shotta’s gotten pretty popular, so popular that it’s become fashionable in certain sectors to hate on him (as often happens). He came out strong as shit with his hypeman, and even though the sound was straight ASS for the first song, it was still fire. He did a ton of songs from his last album (“Coches de Choke”, “El Justiciero”, “Entre Molinos y Campos de Olivo”, “Sangre”, “Alcohol”, “Soy el mejor”, “Illterludio 2″), plus some other classics (“Cárceles de aire”, “Fiesta privá” (from the first album), “Los Raperos Nunca Mueren” (from the EP of the same name)), and he even busted out his verses from the song “Ternera Podrida” (a battle track where he and Zatu from SFDK went at each other in the studio), which seemed kind of weird, don’t know if he did that because he’s actually got beef or just because it was a pretty popular track when it came out.

Anyhow, by the time the show was over, you could tell dude was a little winded, the energy level fell off a bit, but that’s normal I guess in these shows where it’s basically one dude up there yellin’ the whole time. I’m a big fan, so I had fun, standing there by myself noddin’ my head and rappin’ along and shit.

Then, after the show, I turned around, weaved my way through the crowds of wasted teenagers, got on the bike and went home, rolling past all the young couples sitting on the various park benches on Diagonal and on Gran Via, getting their grope on in the night, and the throngs of kids waiting at the stops for the Nit Bus, ready to dance the night away to the chumba-chumba.

Llegó esa fecha marcada en mi agenda con todos los subrayadores, rotuladores y demás artilugios de escritura que tengo en mi escritorio.

El Sónar ha aterrizado en Barcelona. El Sónar de Dia ha abierto la jornada a las doce del mediodía, pero no ha sido hasta algo pasadas las seis de la tarde que no me he podido acercar.

Habían buenas propuestas para la tarde inaugural y casi me las he perdido todas. Como viene siendo habitual en la versión diurna del festival, se hace difícil conocer a los artistas que actúan en los diferentes escenarios. Es así como las sorpresas van surgiendo a lo largo de la tarde.

Nada más llegar una pequeña pausa para llamar a Imanol y montar la camara en el Sónar Complex durante el directo de QA’A. Un sonido interesante y atrapante en los escasos veinte minutos que estuve allí. En el Sónar Village, Chacho Brodas con un gran Hip Hop electrónico con sonidos techno, en lo que fué la primera sorpresa de la tarde.

Es aquí donde le pierdo la vista al festival, para acabar con Two PIAS Djs en el Sónar Dôme. Tenía ganas de verlos por fin, pero me han defraudado un poco. Muy fiesteros y acompañados de una buena maleta de discos, eso sí. Pero técnicamente han dejado mucho que desear, al menos, en esta ocasión.

Durante la noche han actuado Goldfrapp, Leila y Ben Watt. A la que no hemos podido asistir, y evidentemente tampoco podemos comentar.

Espero que para la noche del viernes pueda estar algo más lúcido y poder explicar algo, no como en esta ocasión. He creado un álbum en mi cuenta de Flickr donde podéis ver las fotos que hice ayer en el festival, todavía sin pasar por el Photoshop.
