These marble glass pendants are so versatile. Wear them with casual or evening wear. The ball chain necklace pictured is quite casual, but other more sophisticated chains can easily be substituted for a more elegant look. I purchased these images from Etsy seller Artcult. She has an extensive collection of unique and original designs.

The square tile glass pendant features a sepia style art nouveau image of a woman probably from sometime in the early 1900’s. This glass tile is scrabble sized at about 7/8 inch. Just like the marble pendants, the ball chain pictured can easily be substituted with a more elegant chain. I purchased this digital image from Etsy seller Sabrinazanetti.

As a jewelry designer, I’m always on the look out for items that can make my job a little easi

As a jewelry designer, I’m always on the look out for items that can make my job a little easier. Although I genuinely enjoy every aspect of jewelry making, some things can be more than a little redundant, such as wire wrapping 250 3mm Swarovski crytal bicone beads! So here are some things that I think should be in every jewelry makers stash.

I hate when I’m adding beads to chain, and the weight of the necklace causes it to slip from my grasp. I’ve chipped quite a few beads this way. So I was as pleased as punch to know that someone invented the Chain Sta’. This little gadget lets you attach chain, and it keeps it in place while you add beads, charms, or whatever. The best thing about Chain Sta is that it can double as a way to display your necklaces and bracelets!
Image
Another plus is that it’s relatively inexpensive, www.rings-things.com sells them for $11.25 each, which won’t break your jewelry making budget!

Another thing I’m excited about is the Ferido x1 jewelry adhesive. This stuff is a crafters dream. Basically it’s an adhesive in clay form. You can use it a number of different ways to adhere things like flat backed rhinestones to flat surfaces like wood, glass, or metal, or you can roll it into beads that cure with no heat! Not so inexpensive, a 50 gram package costs in the neighborhood of $25.00 at www.firemountaingems.com, and comes in a variety of colors.

beads made with ferido x1

The premium hamburger chain Byron, known for their ‘proper’ back-to-basic hamburger, just opened yesterday (Nov 25th) on Wardour Street, SOHO. We always wanted to go to Byron but their stores are all in the west part of London like Kensington and Chelsea, and we had never been – but now it is in our territory! It is located in the building used to be occupied by 70’s rock hangout, the rock/metal pub Intrepid Fox. Refurbished and transformed, this shabby chic restaurant with roughly painted white brick walls is decorated with retro clock, hip lighting, and modern dark-colored furniture. It was the opening day we passed by and found it by accident – just 3 hours after its door was opened to the public, but there were already many people enjoying their burger.

We got their highly reputed hamburger finally on our hands. The juicy patty, made with free range grass-fed beef from small farms in Scottish Highlands, was beautifully cooked rare and had a perfect match with melted Monterey Jack cheese and fresh vegetables (tomatoes, red onions, and lettuce). But I was not impressed by their French fries – cooked with lard (widely used for frying in UK) I assume. Good surprise was that we were told Byron offered all the customers free meals (except drinks) on their opening day, when we got the check. We were joking that we should have ordered more foods and probably all the customers thought the same, but I guess that’s the thing that Byron definitely wanted to avoid.

We love hamburger and we eat it for a lunch sometimes (but try not too often). First we became a regular to Hamburger Union but we turned to Gourmet Burger Kitchen when we thought that the taste changed to worse – now Hamburger Union seems to be liquidated and its management has changed (I couldn’t find any information for it, though). We went to Hamburger + (changed the name) on Tottenam Court Road and were hugely disappointed by their awful burger and espresso. Now Byron is added to our list of lunch places around SOHO.

Chain email is the term used to classify emails that attempt to entice unsuspecting users to distribute email to other users on the pretext of offering rewards or information.

There are many examples of chain emails such as messages containing a virus warning or the promise of a prize if you distribute to other people.

I was recently made aware of a hoax email relating to an “Ericsson T18 & R320 laptop promotion”.

This claims to be from Ericsson promising a free laptop if you forward an email to 20 people and is a classic example of a chain email. There is a similar email claiming to be from Nokia which also promises a reward.

The Ericsson hoax has been around since May and is still being circulated which shows how widely this email has spread.

The purpose of these emails is to cause a nuisance by disrupting the network and wasting people’s time. Please ignore them.

You can easily make this cardigan youself. All you need is a plain cream coloured cardigan, a metal chain (diy-stores) and a cream coloured ribbon. Simply weave the ribbon through the metal chain, then hand- sew the chain to the cardigan using cream coloured thread. Don’t forget to sew small pieces to the pockets!

For my newest necklace featuring one of my altered dominoes, I decided to pink up a minor color in the image on my domino, the light (baby) blue. The mulberry paper background is a peachy pink and the image contains a few other shades of pink. I decided to pull it all together with some beaded charms featuring both the peachy pink and the reddish pink.

I had a variety of vintage light blue buttons that I truly loved. Some are glass. Some are plastic. Some of the buttons have additional colors. A couple of the buttons have little crystal rhinestone that tie in well with the rhinestone on the pendant. I layered a couple of buttons and a bead on a couple of the buttons to make them extra special. I did wire-wrap most of the buttons so that I could easily attach the buttons with a jump ring.

If you look closely you’ll notice that I have 6 reddish pink drops that I’m using as charms on this necklace. The drops came from a set of earrings I found at an estate sale. I love the verdigris patina on the beadcaps of these little charms.

I decided on a double chain as the foundation of the necklace. I had quite a bit of very fine gold chain. I thought the elements were to large and heavy for a single chain, so I connected them to two layers of chain.

I decided to string some of those wonderful light blue glass beads that I acquired at an estate sale. I thought this necklace should look nice from the front or back. This is definitely a necklace for a updo or a short haircut. The necklace fits close the neck and is pretty all the way around.

A Similan Island is where you want to go if you want to dive in Thailand. The Similan Island chain is a group of nine islands that are located off the Southern coast of Thailand and are known for being the best places for deep sea diving in Asia
.
The Similan Island chain is actually now a national park that was established in Thailand in 1982. If you want to got to any of these nine islands, you can visit by boat. There are many boat rides available to the islands from Phuket Island as well as the mainland of Thailand.

Although the area is known for the many diving sites where diving enthusiasts visit each year, it also boasts some of the most beautiful tropical foliage in Thailand and is the home for much wildlife that is native to this area. Many of the people who visit the Similan Island go for the scenery such as waterfalls, tropical gardens and rare bird life.

The largest island of the Similan Island chain is Ko Similan. Ko Similan has some of the most beautiful underwater rocks and coral reefs in the world. In addition to diving, people visit this island for snorkeling as there are sites to be seen under the water that cannot be viewed anywhere else in the world.
Those who want to lounge on the beach can do so at Ko Huyong which has the largest beach in the Similan Island chain. This beach is known for that where the giant sea turtles migrate each year to lay their eggs. The eggs are protected by the park officials, but visitors can view these eggs if they visit in the fall.

There are two different types of deep sea diving practiced at the Similan Island National Park. They consist of East side diving which gives you a view of coral reefs and West side diving that has large underwater rocks and swim through tunnels. The most famous East side dive site in the Similan Island chain is East of Eden which is located just off of the seventh island.
While two of the larger islands are named, most of the islands just go by numbers. The natives know them as “island seven” or “island four.”

The most famous West side dive site in the island chain is Elephant Head Rock. Elephant Head Rock is also the name of one of the oldest diving shops that is located in Phuket Island. To actually see whale sharks while diving, you will have to go to Richelieu Rock which is also part of the Similan Island chain. Many people feel that this is the ultimate deep sea diving spot in the world as, in addition to the whale sharks, other underwater life is abundant in this area.
You do not have to be a diving enthusiasts, however, to appreciate the Similan Island chain. When on holiday in Thailand, make sure that you a day to explore this beautiful chain of islands located off the southern tip of Thailand.

I’m always up for a new challenge especially if it involves game pieces. Last night someone, we’ll call her Katie, suggested I make a bracelet for that can be passed from one Farkle champion to the next. Every Thursday a group of crazy Farkle players gathers at the pool for 1 1/2 hours to take their chances at the dice.

I’m always up for a challenge. I was given one day to create an adjustable (Farkle players come in a variety of sizes) bracelet with appropriate dice and various other doodads. Now it may not be perfect or overly elaborate, but I think it is heavy and gaudy enough to meet the requirements.

Since the timeframe was short and I neither wanted to go out to buy materials or spend a lot of money, I chose to use materials I had on hand. I have a jar full of letter dice that I really wanted to use. I also had a set of 4 black and white dice and a set of 5 black and white dice. Since Farkle uses 6 dice, I decided to use 3 dice from each set.

I drilled the holes in all the dice so that I could make some wire-wrap head pin charms. I added some red glass beads, some silver metal beads and some glass pearls. Since I know how wild those Farkle players can get, I attached all my charms to the silver chain with split rings. HAH! Try getting those charms off the bracelet.

I decided to put a hook and eye clasp on the bracelet. The hook can be attached to any ring along the chain. Big (not gigantic) or small anyone should be able to wear this bracelet! Personally I’m waiting for one of the few men to win the opportunity to wear this one.

After yesterday’s Carluccio’s, today’s topic is also about an Italian restaurant as well. We went to Jamie’s Italian, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s casual Italian restaurant chain, in Canary Wharf, London’s another financial centre equal to rivaling the City. The restaurant is in a shopping mall surrounded by skyscrapers, and the restaurant was busy with business people working nearby. In compare to Jamie’s another restaurant chain Fifteen (one is in 8 minutes walk from us), Jamie’s Italian is not as good as Fifteen but more reasonable – homemade pasta cost around £10 and mains are in £10〜17 range. Although it is called Jamie’s ‘Italian’, this colorful restaurant looks more like American Diner or Mexican in Los Angeles, and its menus including hamburger are Jamie’s originals with Italian taste.

Bucatini Carbonara I ordered is a healthier version with courgettes, thyme, and onions. But these vegetables conflict with Carbonara sauce and I prefer the Italian traditional recipe. Tuscan Chocolate and Hazelnut cake for desert was nice and moist, but I have never seen it anywhere in Tuscany where M’s mother lives, and I believe it is Jamie’s recipe as well.

Jamie Oliver is still very popular in UK. In currently airing Channel 4’s Jamie’s American Road Trip, he travels around the USA and communicates with local people through cooking. He contributed to improve school lunch in UK in Jamie’s School Dinners in 2005, though some kids who are used to junk foods boycotted his new healthier lunch menus. Next year, a special TV series, starring Jamie visiting some of the most unhealthy cities in the USA and try to improve its residents’ eating habits, is expected to be aired in the USA. Jamie seems to have become a bit chubby since his first TV series The Naked Chef, and he may also want to consider changing his eating habit as well.

The Capela dos Ossos (English: Chapel of Bones) is one of the best known monuments in Évora, Portugal. It is a small interior chapel located next to the entrance of the Church of St. Francis.

The Capela dos Ossos was built in the 16th century by a Franciscan monk who, in the Counter-Reformation spirit of that era, wanted to prod his fellow brothers into contemplation and transmit the message of life being transitory. This is clearly shown in the famous warning at the entrance “Nós ossos que aqui estamos pelos vossos esperamos” (“We, bones that lie here, for yours await”).

The lugubrious chapel is formed by three spans 18.7 meters long and 11 meters wide. Light enters through three small openings on the left. Its walls and eight pillars are “decorated” in carefully arranged bones and skulls held together by cement. The ceiling is made of white painted brick and is painted with death motifs. The number of skeletons of monks was calculated to be about 5000, coming from the cemeteries that were situated inside several dozen churches. Some of these skulls have been scribbled with graffiti. Two desiccated corpses, one of which is a child, dangle from a chain.

Winter is a tough time on bikes. And one of the hardest hit bits of a machine is the drive chain. Sa

Winter is a tough time on bikes. And one of the hardest hit bits of a machine is the drive chain.

Safety

People regularly cut fingers off in the drive chain. Don’t do anything to the chain with the motor running. Sticking a finger between chain and sprocket doesn’t make for a clean cut either.

Expected Life

Some poor unfortunate soul on Visordown was bemoaning the fact that a new chain and sprockets for his CB500 was costing him over £100. Well, that’s the price of an original equipment kit. The worrying thing is that he needed them after just 6000 miles of use on a brand new bike.

Now, given that I’ve got nearly 50k out of the OEM chain on a GS500 and upwards of 20k miles on a 750 fitted with a cheaper aftermarket chain, what went wrong?

Adjustment

My suspicions were roused when he said he was checking it and adjusting it weekly.

In 6k miles I doubt it had really needed adjusting more than a couple of times and my guess is that he was running it far too tight and causing the wear he was adjusting for.

He wasn’t alone in making this mistake. The senior instructor at the school I used to work was used to adjusting the chains on CG125s. When we got our six brand new GS500s for Direct Access, he adjusted them on the stands. But when riding them, you could hear the chain creaking and squeaking they were so tight – I had to go round and slacken them all off again.

Check the manual, but a chain on a road bike should usually have something like 1.5-2.5cm (3/4″ to 1″) play in the middle of the lower run WHILST THE RIDER IS SEATED ON THE BIKE.

If you do it with the bike on the centre stand and the rear suspension extended, it’s almost certainly too tight when you sit on it. Get someone to check it whilst you sit on it, set it accordingly then measure the slack on the stand – then you can use this NEW figure to set the chain on the stand! Easy peasy.

You’ll be quite surprised how much it can tighten.

Don’t forget to make allowances for any tight spots when you adjust it – set the chain with chain at its tightest spot.

I always adjust chains so they are just a little on the loose side, and usually keep an inch or so play at the tightest spot. It’s not going to jump off the sprockets with a just a little extra play, but it does take the stress of the bearings. Wheel bearings are relatively easy to change – the gearbox output shaft bearing is a complete engine strip to repair!

Lubrication

Our friend with the dented wallet also mentioned he cleaned it every two weeks with Pledge, followed by WD40. He then changed to paraffin, followed by WD. Pledge??? Where did he get that tip from?? (Actually he told me – a lady bikers’ site in the US!).

I have no idea what the solvent is in Pledge. As far as I know WD40 is paraffin based and O ring safe – a lot of Americans use in in the desert States because sand sticks to chain lube, but it is mostly propellant and solvents, doesn’t provide a lot of lubrication, and what little oil there is will certainly wash off very quickly in the rain.

So, what is the job that chain lube is supposed to do? Assuming an O ring or X ring chain, the idea is that the chain lube is only needed to stop the O rings wearing out. The grease needed to lubricate the internal bits of the chain is sealed behind the O/X rings.

So what should you lube the chain with? If you read the manufacturer’s handbook, they recommend that you clean O and X ring chains with paraffin before lubricating with hypoid (gear oil). Very few chain manufacturers recommend chain sprays.

If you do use chain sprays, then apply it to a clean chain – otherwise you are simply spraying the grease over a layer of grinding paste, which will do the sealing rings no good at all. Clean the chain with paraffin and try to avoid getting chemical degreasers on the chain – they rot the O/X rings.

To keep the chain in good nick, you don’t need to smother it in lube either – you don’t wash your bike every time you ride it and you shouldn’t need to lube the chain every time you ride either. As long as there is an oily film that’s all it needs.

If you have an older or low capacity machine with a conventional chain without O rings, then the best idea is to apply the lube to a warm chain – lube the chain after a ride, then as it cools, the lube will be drawn into the chain.

If you must use an aerosol spray, my vote goes for Castrol Chain Wax. It’s not a sticky, penetrating gloopy grease like many of the other sprays, but leaves a dry to the touch, waxy coat on the chain when it drys, which doesn’t attract grit. The downside is that it washes off quite fast.

Of the more conventional grease-type sprays, Motorex 622 seems OK but doesn’t stay on the chain that long in the wet. One reason for using Motrex is that they do a kit with a mini-spray can that’s refillable from the main can – which is why I have some. You can easily stick the mini-spray under the seat or even in a pocket.

So what’s the problem with gear oil? Well, there are two.

The first is that hypoid washes off in wet riding – so I tend to use hypoid as a rule for most riding and if I know I have a long wet ride coming up, put a thin coat of chain lube on the chain and take a small pocket sized spray with me.

The other is that it tends to fling over the bike and, if you overdo it, over the rear tyre. On the other hand, this ‘fling’ property tends to make the chain self-cleaning. I try to apply the oil when I park the bike, rather than 30 seconds before I ride away. I dribble hypoid over the chain, making sure that I get it between the side plates to lubricate the O rings.

As a result mileages are impressive. I usually get 20+k miles out of a chain. The Hornet has been used in all weathers and I’ve just fitted the third chain to it at something over 40k miles. The current O ring on the GS has done around 40k (original fitment), the FZ has a DID O ring and has done around 25k, and the GSXR has a DID X ring, is on around 15k, and has loads of adjustment left.

Chain oilers

The other option (which will pay for itself very quickly if you wear out chains in 6k miles) is a chain oiler. Although quality varies, a decent chain oiler keeps the chain clean, doesn’t coat the back of the bike with sticky grease if you get the flow right and is fit and forget, so long as you remember to top it up from time to time.

Identifying a worn chain

O ring chains seem to need no adjustment for some considerable time, then one day they are loose. From then on, they usually require regular adjustment for the rest of their life.

This generally coincides with the chain developing tight spots. You’ll spot this as the chain rises and falls as you spin the back wheel. Careful cleaning and lubrication may get the worst of the tight spots out, but usually the chain has had it at this point and you might as well bin it and fit another.

A sudden need for big adjustment suggests that one of t he bushes has failed internally to a link – I had a Reynolds chain on the GSXR that failed exactly that way soon after I bought it, despite being covered in chain lube by the previous owner – when I removed it, you could see that a couple of the links had pulled 3 or 4mm further apart than they should have done.

The give away was a horrid clanking from the back end of the bike that changed in time with road speed.

The way to check whether a chain is worn out is to try to lift a link off the rear sprocket – it should stay snug to the teeth – if it lifts off significantly then the chain is cream crackered. This test is a good one if you are buying a used bike – it isn’t unknown for the unscrupulous to spend a few minutes knocking a link out of a chain to make it look like new, and save themselves a few bob.

Keep an eye on the sprockets too. The teeth on the sprocket should be nice and symmetrical – if they look at all like a shark-fin, curled over to one side, they are “hooked” and worn out.

Popular wisdom is that you should change chain and sprockets as a set, but with the extended mileages you can get out of an X ring chain, its possible to wear the front sprocket out before the chain – when you think about the relative sizes, the front gets a lot more wear than the rear!

Front sprockets are generally cheap (£5-8) and it’s worth considering changing this on its own if the chain still has plenty of life.

The rear may well be perfectly OK when you change the chain, so if it’s not hooked, you can save quite a bit of cash by not changing it at the same time.

Tinchy Stryder (22) – real name Kwasi Danquah – was allegedly robbed of £10,000 worth of jewellery at around 1.45am in the car park of a nightclub in Ilford, Essex, reported The Sun newspaper today.

Apparently his entourage confronted the two alleged muggers and managed to get the jewellery back before police arrived on the scene.

A spokesperson for the star added: “Tinchy and his entourage were not involved in any fighting.”

One man has been formally charged by police with a public order offence and apparently the jewellery was returned too. Glad to hear that Tinchy escaped unscathed and actually got the items back, others such as; Ja Rule and Elephant Man were not so lucky when they graced these shores!

Check out this video of Tinchy recording his verse to McLean’s (or Digga as you might know him) Broken at The Way Studio in Hackney.

Photos sometimes only tell part of the story, but I find the contrast between these two to be interesting.

Both are dynamic stars with larger than life personalities and legions of fans.

What do you think is on Jay Z’s mind.

He was caught in London with his wife, to attend the Royal fave Mahiki nightclub after a gig at the O2 arena to party until 3am with Rhianna.
