First let me just say Happy Thanksgiving to you all reading this blog. In the past year and a half things have grown a lot and I’m just thankful for all of you interested and supporting the cause.

At one time, Chamillionaire was looked at as the future of Southern hip hop. He was a part of the Houston hip hop takeover of 2005. Unlike his counterparts, Mike Jones, Slim Thug, and Paul Wall, Cham was looked at as a more lyrical act. Immediately, he proved that he was a hitmaker with his single, “Turn It Up.”

However, once that single fell off, Chamillionaire was forgotten. In early 2006, he released the single, “Ridin’.” That song would end up topping the Billboard Hot 100 and is what truly made Chamillionaire into a star. Universal Records had big plans for him after that single led to his album going platinum.

The label had hopes of making Chamillionaire into a brand. They wanted him to continue making records like “Turn It Up” and “Ridin’.” Also, Universal wanted Chamillionaire to release a new album every year. Most rappers would jump at the opportunity to become the flagship artist for the entire label group, Chamillionaire did not.

When Universal Records asked him to release another album in 2006, Chamillionaire refused to do so. He said that he was not going to rush his creative flow to release another album. Had he done so, he probably would have another platinum release under his belt. Instead, he decided to take his time, releasing an album in 2007.

Unlike his first release, Chamillionaire decided to record a profanity-free album. His sophomore album, Ultimate Victory, did not feature any curse words from Cham, but guests, such as Lil Wayne did curse on their verses. Because of the sharp turn, the album did not sell many copies and the album lacked a true hit.

In the year of 2008, no new music came from Chamillionaire, so when he announced Venom, he had been forgotten by a lot of fans. Now, he is preparing his third album for a December release, but there is no hype around it. The fans are no longer interested in Chamillionaire, and Universal does not seem to be interested, either.

When Venom is released, it is not expected to sell many copies. Universal Records is not a very big fan of album flops. Chamillionaire already had one album flop and another seems to be on the horizon. Is the label even willing to take that risk?

Too often, it seems that black people are always sitting back, upset because someone has something that they do not. More times than not, the person who has what they want is another black person. Instead of being happy for a fellow brother or sister making it, more than likely they tear down what they are doing.

From a local level right up to a professional level, this is happening. Take black politics, for example. Ever since he almost won the Democratic nomination for president, in 1988, Jesse Jackson has become one of the most revered leaders in black America. His voice was getting a little old to some, but they hardly ever said anything.

Once Barack Obama became president, people felt free to put Jesse Jackson down. While some of the things that he says are not valid, he does not deserve to be put down in such a manner. Ever since Obama first rose to fame, in 2007, Jackson has been one of his most vocal critics. Why can’t he just be happy for Obama?

The religious sector is just as bad as the hip hop sector of black America. Most middle-aged black people claim to be saved. If that is the case, why do they pass judgement on the teenagers who listen to hip hop. They should be trying to understand why they do what they do. If there is a problem, they first need to understand it and then try to help.

Speaking of hip hop, it is the main place of black-on-black hating. The rap industry has produced quite a number of black multi-millionaires. At one point, the top two hip hop executives were Suge Knight and Sean Combs, they should have been happy just to make it. Instead, they sent cheap shots back and forth that ultimately led to the death of two of rap’s greatest ever.

One of the more recent squabbles were between Chamillionaire and Michael Jordan. As odd as it sounds, it is true. Apparently, Cham wanted certain recognition from Jordan, but he did not receive it. As mature as Chamillionaire pretends to be, he should have ignored it and moved on. He did not, instead, he publicized it to many hip hop websites and magazines.

It is time for all of this to stop. Black America is very wide and diverse, just like every other ethnic group in America. There is no need for all of this hate going on. Black people have all reached success, just in different ways. At least everyone seems to be making it, which is all that matters.

At the start of most brand development, artists and business professionals alike focus on themselves. Plugged into the goals and aims of the idea at play so intently that there is little effort placed on the literal connection that will inevitably be made with the audience.

The social nature of this new economy has made every person the media. So connecting with our audience honestly, early, and often is imperative to success. The publishing and entertainment industries are beginning to understand. We see examples of success stories in people like the wine guy and author Gary Vaynerchuk and Grammy award-winning artist Chamillionaire.  They each have over 850K and 220K Twitter followers, not to mention the vlogs, Ustreams and countless other ways they connect with their communities daily. Their recent releases were chart toppers in their respective industries almost exclusively because of their intimate audience connections.

Consider this line of thinking, wouldn’t it be easier to sell tickets to a play if when casting for it you weighed talent and followers on Twitter and Facebook equally as variables for casting?

This new world is more interested in the human connection than buying “stuff.” Once artists and businesses alike make a human connection with people they will basically buy anything. (That’s not to say people are stupid, because every great marketer knows, you treat your audience like you treat your wife.) People want to be part of an experience; be a piece of a whole.

Connection with people at the beginning of an idea is what makes a brand. What you do with those connections; the possibilities are endless.

Here’s a great, low-budget music video shot in downtown Phoenix (my very own neighborhood) for Silver Medallion’s “Gravity.”  It was brought to my attention today by @jose602 after we got to tweetin’ about the Chamillionaire “Good Morning” video earlier today. This is also a pretty good song. As you can see, we have some really cool places to shoot here in Phoenix.

Silver Medallion is probably one of the best Arizona groups I’ve never heard of. You can follow them on Twitter @silvermedallion and it looks like they’re playing local clubs and have an upcoming gig booked at The Palms in Vegas.  Catch ‘em soon before they get too famous for Arizona.

No offense, but I hate WordPress.com!

Blogger is way better! So I’ve moved my blog the Blogger, I’ve re-written all the posts so everything should be the same exept for some posts that I have edited.

The reasons I don’t like WordPress.com anymore is because:

• Your not allowed to use adsense.
• You can’t edit the HTML code manually! Like if I add target=”blank” to links, it just removes it.
• You can’t embed videos! You have to use that stupid special code shit like .
• Blogger is a hundred times faster!

Check out Chamillionaire rebelling against his label’s wishes by making his video embeddable.  Oh, the horror of allowing your indentured servant artist to make a video embeddable.  Oh, the horror of letting a video you’ve just dropped a ton of money on to go viral so it can be seen by its audience!  If I were a record label CEO, I certainly would never want as many people as possible to see my artist’s video.  No, I’d certainly want a music video to make as little impressions as possible…

Good for Chamillionaire.  Those who rebel against the the traditional ideas of the record industry will survive.  It’s past time to break the rules.  I think most of us in the radio and records industry know we have to change; we’re just not sure in which ways me must change in order to survive.  We need rebels to lead the way and prove something works before we come up with it.  (Sorry radio, but it’s true).  We drag our feet at any impending change and react or adapt too late to things such as satellite radio, iPods, or online radio.

The artists know they have to keep their music in front of people and it’s harder than ever.  Nobody cares about the traditional methods of delivery like MTV or radio.  All that matters is reaching the audience, and the delivery methods are many: UStream, Facebook, Twitter, iPod/iPhone apps like Slacker, imeem, or just plain ol’ being on the mailing list for your favorite artist.  (Just love getting those Coldplay & U2 updates in my inbox).

Very rarely do I see a new music video for the first time while watching Vh1 or MTV.  I’d guess 90% of the new music videos I see are online.  Just sayin’.

Ridin' pretty clean and wholesome with this one.

So if you haven’t heard it yet, the new Chamillionaire video/song “Good Morning” was released this week. Featuring a sampling of Tom Petty’s “Freefalling”, this is guaranteed to be played at every pong fused frat party for the next year or so.

So take a listen, and see if you hate it or love it. By the title, you can guess that my thoughts right now are confused. I wouldn’t call this a comeback.

Chamillionaire has been pretty quiet since his hit, “Ridin’” way back when. Well, he’s about to drop a new album, Venom, on February 2nd next year, and what we have here is the music video for the first single – a track called “Good Morning”. It samples a very famous song (can you guess it?) and works surprisingly well with his style of rapping. I’ve always liked Chamillionaire because he seems like a decent dude, who is just trying to make a living. He seems very friendly and approachable, unlike someone like 50 Cent. Well that’s just my opinion. Check out the song, and be sure to get Venom when it drops next year.

Yesterday was the official airing of the new Chamillionaire video and single , Good Morning, from his up coming new album.

Album, Venom, is pushed to 2nd of feb 2010, be on a lookout for that.

Chamillionaire was pioneering the internet marketing at early stages. He was signed after he had  massive hits on his myspace.

Also listen to this interview with him and QD3 at Stanford University, really interesting things he says for future entrenpreneurs.

His energic shows is also to recommend, he rocked Mejeriet in Lund, Sweden this year, and it was off the heeziee.
