Espero que os agrade y que comentéis vuestras impresiones, así como os sigo animando a insertar vuestras composiciones literarias y musicales que hagan día a día más grande este género.

Nu när jag befinner mig här vid havet så tänkte jag att det var lämpligt att börja läsa Vi, de drunknande av Carsten Jensen. Det är lite svårt att vänja sig vid att det är ett hel by, “vi”, som berättar så den var lite seg i början. Men nu efter de första hundra sidorna så börjar det flyta på ordentligt, så vi får se hur det slutar.

Idag har jag varit i Chan Chan som är ett världsarv som ligger mellan Trujillo och Huanchaco. Jag hade sådan tur att precis när jag skulle gå in så stod de en grupp med fyra personer som behövde en femte person för att gå på guidad tur. Annars hade jag tänkt att ströva runt bland ruinerna själv, men det här var verkligen mycket bättre! Om jag inte hade gått med den duktige guiden så hade det mest varit som att traska runt bland en massa halvraserade väggar. Jag älskar den spanskan de pratar här! Den är så ren och lätt att förstå. I södra Spanien kan de inte prata spanska överhuvudtaget: de läspar och tappar alla s i slutet av orden. I Centralamerika är det bättre men jag tyckte ändå att de sluddrade en del, i synnerhet i djungeln i Costa Rica. Här är det bara en dröm: de talar så tydligt och fint! Som i Mexico, där kan de också tala ordentligt. Att tala spanska ordentligt innebär givetvis att tala så att JAG förstår. Det lustiga är att man kan ha ett helt samtal på spanska, och sedan avslutar den andra personen ändå med att säga Thank you eller Bye Bye. Varför, undrar jag?

Chan Chan var huvudstaden i Chimuväldet från 1000-talet till slutet av 1400-talet, när chimufolket besegrades av inkafolket. Chan Chan var en ganska stor stad som omfattde många kvadratkilometer (nästan 20, tror jag), men den del jag besökte var det gamla palatset. Det har varit helt begravt i sanden, men började grävas ut på 1960-talet. Chimufolket dyrkade månen och också havet, så många dekorationer påminner om tidvatten, fiskar och havsfåglar. Palatset är byggt av adobesten som är gjort av någon slags lera, smågrus och snäckskal. Nu kvarstår mest bara mer eller mindre intakta väggar av detta palats. Väder och vind ser ut att ha gått ganska hårt åt detta kulturarv även efter utgrävningen, och de största delarna av palatset har inget skydd alls. Chan Chan består av flera rektangulära kvarter, torg och en stor brunn. Det finns även gravar där de begravde mumier som de då och då tog fram ur graven och firade. Det var mycket intressant att höra guiden berätta om chimufolket och mochefolket, för annars är det ju mest inkafolket man hör talas om.

Since the beginning of this trip, I have been trying to figure out the secret to how the Portenos stay so slim and in shape while eating some of the richest food around. After walking Buenos Aires all day and all night, it was obvious to see – they are all runners and play soccer in the evenings. Yesterday, my friend Raj and I walked and talked from noon till midnight yesterday, and everywhere it was evident that people were milling about their own affairs but once it got dark (7pm or so), then the streets and the parks were filled with portenos of all ages, runnings on the streets, playing pick up soccer or doing some type of physical fitness activity.

The weather, broad promenades and ample green space combine to create a very fitness positive space where people can indulge themselves. Well, I figure they have to, since everyone got dressed up after 9.30 pm to go have a late dinner. As usual, after all the walking, touring and photographing, I had an excellent dinner at a nice little Peruvian restaurant called Chan Chan. This place was picked at random from the book with no reservations accepted, so we were a bit worried when we got there a little after 9.30, and we should have been. The place was full and loud, with a couple large tables formed by shoving smaller tables together. From my perspective, this is a good sign: Folks show up in groups, wanting reasonable prices and an atmosphere conducive to multiple conversations and cross-talk. Chan Chan is basically just a simple, medium-sized room, with white-tiled walls and a multi-colored mosaic over the kitchen. Open and unpretentious, except for maybe the cache of plaster saints that presides over the dining area.

The food however was again cheap and spectacular. Raj and I ordered the Ceviche Sample which consisted for 4 types of Ceviche, 3 of which I have tried before at other Peruvian places across my travels:

• Tiradito Ceviche : This is newer cousin of traditional ceviche, somewhat like Sashimi, in that it was thin, slightly longer strips of marinated raw fish but with no onions. It came garnished with slices of boiled corn, and boiled root veggies.Thankfully, the waitress saw me inhale the salsa picante and she asked me in English, whether I liked it hot… of course my response was for them to kill it with pepper and they did
  
• Ceviche Mixto : This is a bit more traditional ceviche, with a mix of seafood (clams, oysters, octopus) and raw fish diced in 2cm cubes and marinated in lime juice and ajíes (hot peppers), served with raw onions, sweet potato and corn. The volume of onions was ridiculous but so fantastically good and of course this one was also awesomely hot as every bit was infused with chunks of scotch bonnet peppers
• Ceviche de Lenguado: This is tradtional ceviche, just the raw fish, onions, lime, cilantro, and tons of pepper. Crisp, clean and refreshing
• Ceviche in Rocoto Cream sauce : Obviously a newer type of ceviche, but anything creamy I wont touch. Raj was the taster for this one, and she didn’t fancy the whole deal, so this one was left till last and in the end, she couldn’t finish it.

I also had a traditional rice and peas with stewed beef, and it tasted exactly like traditional west indian stewed beef except it wasn’t as sweet or hot, but the cut of beef was ridiculously soft and well done.

Again overall cost of the meal, plus drinks and wine = 100 pesos (28$ CDN). Another fantastic value for the money, as the exact same meal in Toronto, San Francisco or New York, would have cost double or triple that price and surely not as good.

Prior to the Peruvian dinner experience, it was hours and hours of walking through the parks and all across Buenos Aires. From the craft markets in Recoleta to Carlos Gardel Musuem street in Abasto and all along hustle and bustle of Avenida Santa Fe and rich little houses and shops in Avenida Alvare.

Huanchaco Beach

The past couple days I have been in Huanchaco, a small beach town outside of Trujillo. The main reason people visit either of these towns is to visit the surrounding ruins.

I arrived on the night bus from Huaraz with two French guys and a Spanish guy, so we decided to visit the Chan Chan ruins together. I have to admit, I wasn’t overly impressed. Part of it was surely that we decided not to spend the extra money to hire a guide (being that there wasn’t a common language between all of us that we could listen in), and so we were basically wandering around a big mud-adobe area that was, well, pretty ruined. You could only sort of imagine what it must have been back in the first century when it was built.

The main complex, the museum, and two huacas (temples) are all included in the entrance ticket, and crazy us decided to try walking between them all. It was a LOT of walking, and we ended up skipping out on the last huaca because we were pretty unimpressed and the ruins had thus far not been worth the effort!

So we all separately made our ways back to Huanchaco. I spent some time walking along the beach. It was nice to be on the ocean, but I have to admit that it really made me miss a lot of people from home, our random trips in college to Charleston or Myrtle Beach, or spring breaks in Florida. It would have been nice to have someone to share it with.

There’s really nothing much to do in Huanchaco, so by 9pm we were all back in our dorm, all on our netbooks just making use of the hostel’s wifi!

Today Oriol (the Spanish guy) and I headed out early to buy our bus tickets for tonight and to visit the Huacas del Sol y Luna. These were much more impressive (to me) than Chan Chan. The Huaca del Sol is just a huge pyramid. The Huaca del Luna you can actually go inside, and what I liked about it was how well preserved all the murals were. They were all over, and many still retained their color! It was definitely more interesting.

We took lunch in the Plaza de Armas in Trujillo, which is surely the only nice place in the city! The buildings around it are colorful and it looks really nice! The lunch was different. I got the famous Peruvian dish, aji de gallina, which was fine enough. But the soup I got before (it was a cheap 4.50 soles set lunch) came out complete with an entire chicken foot still in it. The little chicken claw was sticking out of the soup staring me down the whole time and kind of made me lose my appetite!

Then it was back to Huanchaco again. While it is definitely nice staying by the sea rather than in Trujillo, it is a bit of a pain getting the collectivo back and forth between them (about 30 minutes each way). The collectivos get very crowded, and the seats are so close  together it is impossible for someone with even slightly long legs to fit in them! Today we somehow found ourselves squeeze into the back seat multiple times, which meant crushed legs and banging heads on the ceiling!

All in all, Trujillo was a pretty necessary stopover on my way up the coast, but it’s been gray and the ruins weren’t exactly life changing, so I am read

y to head up the coast to Mancora tonight!

Accomodation: Hostel Naylamp – 15 soles/nt for dorm; right on the beach, has wifi, hot water, all the regular necessities, a nice courtyard with hammocks. Breakfast not included, but has a decent cafe that is open all day. I’d say it’s probably the best deal you’ll find in town.

People have lived here an awfully long time

When I was a kid out in Harrah, Washington, I was in awe of how old Fort Simcoe was. The houses had been turned into museums so that we kids could marvel at how primitive life was in the 1850’s and scare each other with ghost stories. It was ancient history.

These days as we take the bus back and forth from Huanchaco to Trujillo, we pass along a road that cuts through the 20 square kilometer ruins of Chan Chan. A few kilometers out of town, and older still, the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna are still being excavated and giving up their ancient secrets.

The ancient pre-Inca cultures of Peru’s North Coast had the same building materials of today’s inhabitants: mud brick. This means they’re often in a pretty bad state of repair, which can get wearying to the ungrateful traveler, but their contemporaries in the Andes were blessed with stone, which leaves ruins that are often less impressive in sheer size (Túcume’s pyramid complex rivals the Egyptians, it is said), but more interesting in terms of us being able to understand what we’re seeing.

The Cajamarca culture left us Cumbe Mayo and the Ventanillas de Otuzco, as well as the tourist-icized Inca Baths. The Chachapoya left us the fortified city of Kuelap, the mummies of Laguna de los Condores, the spectacular sarcophagi of Karajia, the Revash complex, as well as countless other smaller ruins that are known only to a few. See how only three of those have a link? We’ll definitely be going back to that area.

Peru is amazingly stunningly wonderfully beautiful.

Sometimes getting there can be the best part, as in our train ride from Lima to Huancayo, or bus ride from Cajamarca to Chachapoyas.

Rob’s taken a couple thousand photos of how beautiful the landscape is, and I’ve written a couple thousand words describing the natural beauty of places like the Gruta de Guagapo and Gocta Waterfall. We spent four days loving every minute of the rain during our trek through the Santa Cruz valley, and every bump on our mountain bike day-trip in the Cordillera Blanca.

Peru is a land of extremes, from the dry, barren coastline to the breathtakingly severe Andes to the humid, fertile jungle, and you can go from one extreme to another in a matter of hours.

I’m trying to keep in mind that we’ve only seen a fraction of the country’s northern half in these hectic two months of travel. I’m looking forward to a new pace of life as we settle into Huanchaco and volunteering—going from a grand, skin-deep overview to an in-depth look at a single community. In December we’ll hit the road again, this time visiting some of the more touristy places with Mama and Papa Kwak, and then, who knows?

I think we’ll be happy no matter where we go here. It is Peru, after all.

Visite de Chan Chan, le temple de la civilisation Chimu. Cette civilisation succéda à la culture Moche, laquelle entra en déclin aux alentours du VI^e - VII^e siècle. Ils furent soumis en 1470 par les Incas. Ils ont réalisé que les sacrifices ne calmaient point les Dieux et quʼil continuait à pleuvoir, alors ils ont abandonné la pratique du décapitage comme sacrifice. Ils menaient encore des cérémonies religieuses. La grande place est un auditorium naturel d’où l’on peut entendre la mer, éloignée pourtant de plus de 30 km. Nous y retrouvons aussi des sculptures et des peintures originales sur les murailles. Ces représentations indiquent que les Chimú vénéraient beaucoup la mer (mamacocha). L’économie des Chimú reposait principalement sur l’agriculture et dépendait d’un système d’irrigation complexe. Les Chimú fabriquaient une poterie de couleur noire, réalisée en série à partir de moules. Ils ont développé également une orfèvrerie raffinée. En route pour Chiclayo, nous avons aussi visité le musée du temple de la Dame de Cao. Son corps momifié est exposé dans une chambre vitrée. Cela prit plus de 6 mois pour la débarrasser de ses bandages. Cette femme de la culture Moche nʼétait âgée que dʼune vingtaine dʼannées, et sa peau était couverte de multiples tatouages. Elle régnait et décapitait elle-même les sacrifiés. Les archéologues savaient quʼil sʼagissait bien d’elle par les vestiges retrouvés dans son tombeau. Lorsquʼun roi de cette époque mourait, sa famillle proche, ses concubines et un ou deux gardiens se suicidaient pour être enterrés auprès de lui, et continuer ainsi dʼêtre ensemble dans lʼaprès vie. The majority of the Peruvian coast near Trujillo is a desert but for what irrigation can eke out of the soil. Nothing grows on its own, not sagebrush, not cactus. Nothing. Piles of powdery tan earth are the only thing to be seen until the mountains, which rise stark and lifeless. The ocean stretches out from the desert, just as barren to the naked eye.

The bus dropped us off at the road that cuts through the Chan Chan complex, and we were told that the shuttle that normally ran there was off to lunch. We walked thirty minutes through acres of windswept plain, where ruined walls spoke of an ancient culture long since gone.

The remaining walls mound up like tiny copies of the buttes of the southwest of the United States, sand piled for centuries against their bases, a few meters of naked mud brick rising above, gouged by rain and melting from the top down. From time to time a shock of green appears—a tree, a bush, or in one of the deeper depressions where sweet water can seep through the soil, reeds.

The sun beat down mercilessly, and once we walked a few steps away from the highway, nothing could be heard but the wind. Clouds moved quickly by, sweeping mottled patterns across the ground.

When we made it to the complex, we were greeted by half a dozen bored guides. Entry was S/.11 each, and for an additional S/.25 we could hire a guide. We bought a S/.1 pamphlet instead, and then proceeded to individually refuse the guiding services of every other human in the visitor center. The only other couple of visitors there right then did so, as well. Poor guides. I hope they get paid hourly.

They’ve done a lot of restoration and preservation work on the palace we visited, Nik An. You can tell that some walls have been replastered, and it’s a bit difficult to know whether the relief carvings have been restored or if they were just pristinely preserved by drifts of sand. The edges of the carvings are just so unbelievable sharp for adobe carved centuries ago.

The corridors of the palace were wide and empty, its plazas sun-beaten and harsh. From time to time there were little recreations to give us an idea of how things would have looked when it was occupied, but it is so hard to imagine what the palace and the surrounding 20 square kilometers must have been like. It would have been simply astounding to come to this place from your little village, to see the towering walls—ten to twelve meters high—and the vast waterworks. To see the entire desert transformed into a vibrant green oasis of fertile farmland.

Vacaciones en Perú – Chiclayo / Trujillo. El norte de Peru, cuna de grandes descubrimientos arqueologicos.  Muchas veces postergado por Cusco y Machu Picchu no puede dejar de recorrerse Trujillo, Chiclayo y sus alrededores.

Día 1: CHICLAYO

A la llegada a Chiclayo, asistencia en el aeropuerto y traslado al hotel seleccionado..

Día 2: CHICLAYO

Desayuno en el hotel. Visita al majestuoso y moderno Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipan. Este cuenta con una escenificación de la vida del Senor de Sipan y su corte real, en forma piramidal, inspirada en los santuarios Mochica, para así sintetizar el pasado, presente y futuro de la identidad de Lambayeque. Todas las piezas exhibidas son originales y cada una de ellas fue sometida a un minucioso proceso de limpieza y restauración. En esta joya arquitectónica descansa el maximo representante de la cultura Mochica, el Señor de Sipan, considerado el gobernante mas importante del antiguo Perú hace aproximadamente 1,700 anos. Continuamos hacia la ciudad de Ferrenafe para visitar el Museo de Sican. El museo exhibe todos los aspectos de la vida diaria de la cultura de Sican. Pueden observar el proceso de realizar cerámica y el repujado de metales, además de poder apreciar las tumbas de la nobleza Sican. La mayoría de los objetos son mostrados dentro de su mismo contexto, es decir , la manera como fueron hechos y utilizados. Almuerzo.

Visita a Tucume, importante complejo arqueológico con extensión de unas 220 hectareas y compuesto de por lo menos unas 26 pirámides (posibles templos). Se dice que Tucume fue un centro administrativo y religioso con rasgos de las culturas Moche, Chimu e Inca. Al final procedemos a visitar la ciudad de Chiclayo y alrededores.

Día 3: CHICLAYO/TRUJILLO

Desayuno en el hotel. Traslado desde Chiclayo a Trujillo, realizando una visita a la ciudad en ruta, luego seguimos nuestro recorrido con una visita a Huacas del Sol y la Luna; que se encuentran ubicadas en Trujillo. Ambas huacas estaban en pleno esplendor cuando fueron devastadas por uno de los primeros fenómenos del Nino. La Huaca del Sol creció hasta unos 41 km. y cubrió mas de 120 acres, casi tan largo como la gran pirámide de giza en Egipto. Fue la ciudad de adobe mas larga de Sudamérica. La Huaca de la Luna es un mural policromo con diseños de un ser antropomórfico semejante a la figura central en La Puerta del Sol en Tiahuanaco, Bolivia. Luego procedemos hacia Chan-Chan, declarado herencia cultural del mundo por la UNESCO en 1986, Chan-Chan, la capital de Chimor, fue una gran metrópolis de aproximadamente 20 kilómetros cuadrados. Esta ubicada a 3 millas (5 km) de la ciudad de Trujillo y cerca al mar.

Se calcula que Chan-Chan tuvo una población de 50,000 a 60,000 hab. en esta impresionante ciudad de adobe, nueve enormes paredes pueden ser distinguidas. Cada una constituye una ciudad pequeña dentro de la gran ciudad, cada una cuenta con reservorios, calles, casas, cementerios y oficinas administrativas, estas son conocidas como: huacas, palacios o castillos. El Ministro de cultura, Abel Prieto,  consideró como una “victoria extraordinaria” del pueblo cubano  contra el bloqueo, el concierto de “Paz sin fronteras” celebrado  el domingo en La Habana, organizado por el colombiano Juanes.

“Fue una victoria extraordinaria de nuestro pueblo, de la  gente que apoyó esa idea de Juanes, una victoria de la cultura,  del arte frente al odio, frente a la intransigencia”, declaró  Prieto a la agencia italiana ANSA.

“El balance de ese extraordinario momento histórico es muy  positivo no solo para Cuba, sino para el mundo”, añadió sobre el  concierto celebrado en la Plaza de la Revolución ante más de un  millón de personas.

Considerá que “indirectamente fue un concierto contra  el bloqueo, un concierto contra la imagen desfigurada de Cuba  que se ha pretendido construir a través de mentiras, de medias  verdades”.

“Fue un golpe a esa imagen de una Cuba reprimida, triste, de  una Cuba bajo un régimen siniestro, todas esas locuras que se  dicen y se repiten”, afirmó el ministro.

Abel Prieto señaló que con el concierto “lo que salió a flote fue  esa juventud maravillosa que tenemos nosotros y gente de todas  las edades”.

El ministro destacó que “el momento final con el Chan Chan de  Formell (los Van Van), que fue un homenaje a Compay Segundo y a  toda nuestra música tradicional, fue realmente hermoso”.

Sobre el “núcleo intransigente de Miami” que criticó el  concierto, Prieto declaró que “son cosas tragicómicas, una cosa  patética lo que está pasando”. Apuntó que “ya hay gente en Miami, cada vez más, que no  le temen a ese cerco mediático, a esa presión que se ha creado  otra vez en las emisoras radiales de determinados programas de  televisión y que han decidido enfrentar a los extremistas”.

TRUJILLO, Chan Chan, El Valle del Moche

VIAJE Y TURISMO

En Trujillo la primavera es eterna. El sol siempre brilla y llena de luz hasta los rincones más escondidos de la capital del departamento de La Libertad, regocijando el alma de un pueblo afable y cordial, que vive orgulloso de sus ciudadelas de barro y adobe construidas por los Chimús y los Mochicas; de sus señoriales casonas, herencia de la época colonial y de los albores de la República; y de la Marinera, la danza nacional del Perú, un torbellino de sensualidad y galanura del que nace el amor.

Localizada en la costa norte del Perú, Trujillo fue fundada en 1534 por Don Diego de Almagro, que al detenerse en el valle del río Moche, en su marcha hacia Pachacamac (Lima), “encontró lugar provechoso y conveniente para fundar una ciudad”, a la que bautizó con el mismo nombre de la ciudad española en la que había nacido el conquistador Francisco Pizarro.

Desde su fundación, Trujillo mostró un rápido desarrollo debido a la fertilidad del valle y al esfuerzo de sus pobladores, quienes edificaron casonas señoriales , en las que destacan las artísticas rejas de fierro forjado, que le dan un toque de distinción y elegancia a la arquitectura trujillana.

Pero el encanto de Trujillo va más allá de su pasado colonial y se interna en la época pre-hispánica. En el valle de Moche, se encuentra la ciudad de Chan-Chan , capital del Reino del Gran Chimú, considerada la ciudad de barro más grande del mundo (20 kilómetros cuadrados de extensión) y que sólo es comparable a los restos arqueológicos de Teotihuacan en México o las antiguas ciudades de Egipto.

La Huaca del Sol , pirámide escalonada de 20 metros de alto, la Huaca de la Luna, donde se aprecian asombrosos murales que representan los rituales de los Mochicas, y el Complejo de El Brujo, que destaca por una pirámide de adobe de 30 metros de altura y más de 15 siglos de antigüedad, evidencian la grandeza de los primeros habitantes de la costa norte del Perú.

Los siglos han pasado y le han dado la razón a don Diego de Almagro. El valle del Moche era un lugar provechoso y conveniente para fundar una ciudad, de eso ya no quedan dudas y lo saben todos aquellos que conocen Trujillo, la tierra del sol y la eterna primavera.

La Habana vivió el más grande de sus espectáculos. El mundo presenció la más hermosa conjura de la solidaridad, el amor, la pasión, el humanismo. Nada pudo acallar la voz de la Paz. Ni el odio, ni la intolerancia, ni el miedo.

Más de un millón de cubanos se dieron cita en la Plaza para acompañar a Juanes y a los que con él se atrevieron. Cantaron de felicidad, rieron de alegría, lloraron de emoción. Como también lloraron Olga Tañón y Miguel Bosé, después de tantas semanas de ataques y de tensiones.

Merengue, baladas, canciones de la trova, funky, hip hop, salsa; todo se fundió en la única voz de la paz. Los Van Van le dieron el cierre magistral y bien cubano a esta fiesta de los sueños y esperanzas.

Cuba se mostró al mundo en toda su alegría y su grandeza.

Carlos Varela, que siempre viste de negro, se apareció en el Concierto Paz sin Fronteras este domingo con su tradicional vestimenta, pero con un cartel en su camiseta: “Tengo una camisa blanca”, en alusión a la conocida canción de Juanes.

La nota de humor fue propicia en un concierto donde reinó la alegría, la música y una relación de respeto y cariño entre los artistas y los 1 150 000 cubanos que fueron a escucharlos en la Plaza de la Revolución, de Ciudad de La Habana.

Juanes había convocado a todos los participantes, tanto artistas como público, a participar en el concierto vestidos de blanco, símbolo de la paz.

Tras la exitosa presentación de Juanes en la Plaza de la Revolución, en La Habana, el reconocido cantautor cubano, Silvio Rodríguez, tomó el escenario, donde en el transcurso del día han pasado figuras como Olga Tañón y Miguel Bosé, para encontrarse con el pueblo de Cuba.

El diario peruano www.rpp.com.pe, reportó que “después de cantar en su querida Cuba la canción ‘Escaramujo’, Rodríguez hizo vibrar al más del millón 150 mil personas que llegaron hasta el concierto ‘Paz Sin Fronteras’, con su emblemático tema ‘Ojala’.”

“Gracias mi Cuba, viva el pueblo cubano”, dijo un muy escueto Silvio.

Como se recuerda, antes de la aparición de Rodríguez, Juanes y Miguel Bosé sorprendieron a los cubanos, cantando a dúo los temas “Odio por amor” y “Nada particular”.

A ritual of skull plastering is still practiced today.  It is believed in some Asian and Middle Eastern cultures that, after death, the spirit of the dead continue to influence the world of the living.  Some keep the skulls on display in their homes.  Others worship by presenting food, money and gifts so the dead can carry over with their needs.  The food is enjoyed by the family and the rest is burned so the ancestor may receive it.  Some cultures have The bodies displayed in mausoleum (Vietnamese have a relic of Ho Chi Minh) where thousands of people visit a day.  Some in a crypt displaying thousands of monks bones for prayer. While others have a compound where all of their Kings are buried (Melting City of the Chimu in Peru).  The East Indians have a shrine (Temple of the Tooth) holding a relic they say is Buddha’s tooth.  Buddhists and non Buddhists come from all over the world to visit the shrine (it can take 6 years to be approved for a visit).  It is said to be the most important spiritual experience for some.
In the 1700’s Mummies were taken from Egypt and brought to Europe where the their remains were ground up and sold (Mummia) due to its so called magical powers.

Americans are more in-tune to worshiping movie stars and reality TV shows then our ancestors.  Even if it all ends up meaning nothing, at least these people cherish the family and loved ones that were here before them.

En poco tiempo.

In the north of Peru the Chimú and Moche cultures constructed fascinating adobe brick cities in the middle of the desert.  Built around A.D. 1300, Chan Chan is the largest mud brick city in the world.  At the height of the Chimú empire it consisted of approximately 10,000 structures with walls that stood over 10m high.  The central Palacio Nik-An remains a fascinating site to tour and in 1986 all of Chan Chan was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site.  Other interesting stops along the Chimú route include the stepped-platform adobe temple of la Huaca Esmeralda and la Huaca Arco Iris.  Translating to  Rainbow Temple, la Huaca Arco Iris is one of the best preserved Chimú temples and gets its name from the repeated rainbow designs that cover its slightly pyramidal walls.  Peruvian hairless dogs can be spotted around la Huaca Esmeralda and la Huaca Arco Iris.  With unusually high body temperatures, they have traditionally been used to treat people with arthritis.

Un día oí decir a Compay Segundo, en un reportaje televisivo, que nunca se habría imaginado que estas cuatro notas, estos cuatro acordes, se convertirían algún día en algo tan querido y tan popular para la gente.

Realmente es de aquellas piezas que cuando la aprendes no puedes parar de repetirla, llena de ritmo y de son. Me encantó arreglarla.
