We have not had a our fist snow yet….. but it is coming. That you can bank on.

What is also constant like the changing of seasons, is the movement of people who come in and out of our lives. Some stay for a long time, decades really, and others flit in and flit out.

There are those that I only see once or twice a year, and sometimes we skip a couple of years but when we come back together it is like nothing has changed between us. There is an acceptance and understanding of who we are to the core and we fit. A bit of quick catch-up, just give me the damn highlights of the past year, and now lets just move into the Now. I love those relationships. Like a pair of good fitting, favorite jeans. These are the people who make up my true family. We would drop everything and get on a plane if needed, without thinking and without asking why. We would just do it.

When we have them in our everyday lives, it is brilliant. These are the best of the friends, and contact with them leaves me full and happy, not drained and exhausted.

Some other relationships we experience daily, but for what ever reason, becoming too close can become toxic to us, so we remain cordial and professional and polite. Hardly our real selves, but a pleasant outside shell that can manage the everyday bumping around.

Then there are the souls that come into your life just at the right time with the right amount of what-ever-it-is you need. Could be guidance or inspiration or just a simple lesson that puts you back on your path. They are there, like the day lily and gone just as quickly, but the interaction has left a significant impression.

The seasons are constant friends, coming in and out of my life with a rhythm. I know how to be and how to feel in each one. Each season comes with a certain attitude and I sometimes brace for it and sometimes I relax into it. Fall and winter are my seasons. They are my old friends and allow me the space to just be me.
