Come on? I’m totally right! Cleaning out one’s junk drawer is just like cleaning out one’s ass: best done wearing gloves, by oneself, when everything else has already been scoured speckless.

Yesterday, I found myself, alone in my spic and span house, with a few free hours and a pair of rubber gloves……Magic was made.

Post magic I’ve now found my favorite missing blush, my tiny, travel bottles of Maker’s Mark, and 1 of 3 nightguards. (Yes, i grind my teeth. Yes, i wear that giant, attractive apparatus to remedy this nocturnal problem.  Yes, when I sleep, I look like a head gear wearing Anthony Michael Hall in “Sixteen Candles.”  Try and make fun of me, and I’LL KILL YOU.)

But the most incredible thing I found?!?!??!?!?!:  my J.CREW receipt/store credit from 2007!?!?!?! How in the HELL did I forget about this?!??!?! I’ve heard those horrific stories about those mothers who forget they’ve left their babies on top of their cars, and then drive off? I can totally sympathize now. How could I forget about my credit??? How did I go all this time with all that (practically) free merchandise waiting for me to come rescue it, and bring it home? So sad. So scary. I think Beyonce should play me when they convert this harrowing story into a movie.

Today, I’m stealing away to right this wrong. And, NO………… I didn’t find my J. Crew credit in my colon!!!!!!!???!?!

I don’t own a lot of Chantecaille products, but what I do have is of excellent quality.  So when Sarah recommended that I try the Lip Chic lipsticks, I jumped right on the bandwagon. The clincher for me was that these are paraben-free. To read more about parabens and the controversy over them, click here. I can’t keep parabens out of every product I buy, but I do try to keep them out of my lipsticks to avoid ingesting them.

Anyway, these feel similar to Clinique’s Buttershines, minus the greasy feel the Clinique ones seem to have. They are extremely moisturizing, give a plumping effect to my lips and lasting a decent amount of time considering that they’re more of a cross between a gloss and lipstick. I reach for these all of the time because my lips are chronically chapped and they are very soothing and almost feel like a lip balm.

The Lip Chics come in cute little black satchels and are packaged in sleek silvery black tubes. I purchased Dahlia, which is a berryish red, and Ceylon, more of a brownish berry.

Everything about these lipsticks is luxury – the feel, the packaging, and unfortunately the price. At $30, they certainly aren’t cheap, but the quality is superior and unlike anything I’ve found in a drugstore or even in other upscale brands.

Today i met Waverly at Barney’s where she was meeting up with her favorite makeup artist, Phillip, and the

owner and her daughter, Lisa, of the line, named for the owner, Chantecaille. It was so much fun, i had a little touchup

and Elfriede went for the whole facial! we met free lance

makeup artists, Susie Gray Uphues and Laura Catherine. After snapping everyones photos and trying out the vintage sofa, a la Mary Kay!

we headed down to Neimans and ate at the Mermaid Bar. After a nice , chatty lunch, we spotted some old friends of

Elfriede’s, Daniel and Richard, from the D & R Salon in Dallas. So, of course the obliged and had their photos snapped as

well.

I use both of these products together at night and when I wake up my skin feels the way I imagine women must feel after they’ve had botox–and I mean that in a good way. There’s an interesting New York Magazine article about the new ‘baby face’. The combination of these two as an overnight treatment makes me feel like I have that plumped out baby face- my skin feels super soft and my lips feel like I just used a lip plumper.  I wish it could stay that way all week long.

I recently moved to a new city and in moving had to reestablish my habits having left behind most of my treatment products. Chantecaille’s detox mask has been part of my ritual for a long time now and made it over with me. Ina White Crystals is a fairly new product in my line-up but has a pretty good story so it to made the flight over.

I haven’t been taking care of my skin for the past 4 weeks or so. My pores are clogged. I have breakout and irritation. I favor the color black with punchy colors and offbeat combinations in work and my personal wardrobe. I love the unexpected: incorporating color with neutrals, mixing periods and having fun with style. Even in my home, my interiors are sophisticated, but there is a sense of humor to them. Being creative is my job, and looking good and feeling good is an important part to it. Living in Orange County, CA in a city run rampant with Juicy Couture sweat suits, flip-flops, and Los Scandalous (L.A.) as its neighbor, I like to set myself apart by favoring more electric and playful designers like Anna Molinari. L.A. has such a relaxed vibe, but I like to dress up the majority of the time.

I have been receiving a lot of personal email, especially the ones asking for tips and advice of my own style, not just on the people I like to write about! I weeded through a few and here are my responses:

How would you describe your style? An electric mix of vintage, modern, and designer. It’s different every day and I don’t believe in uniforms. Sometimes I am dressy, sometimes casual.

Who is your fashion icon? This is easy, Jane Birkin! I admire her style and direction. She saw the beauty in everything around her. I liked that she was a major risk taker and you cannot move beyond a certain point if you don’t take risks.

Beauty Essential? Eye cream. I have applied it three times a day since high school graduation. I carry the sample size tubes in my purse and re apply just a dab after lunch. Otherwise for day I use Estee Lauder’s Daywear because it has SPF and Kiehls Abyssine for night. It must be the texture but I reach for Kiehls on a regular basis.

Crystal in my cabinet? I don’t use that word as it reminds me too much of my mom’s formal hutch as a child. I prefer the colorful patterns and designs of Versace china and it’s fine to use it for everyday use. Why only use china for special occasions?

Favorite Fashion Haunts? Buffalo Exchange in Costa Mesa, Darewear in Huntington Beach, and Fred Segal in L.A.
