Me reúno con ustedes por primera vez, para realizar lo que será un espacio específicamente realizado para dar y recibir criticas sobre distintos discos, no solo seré yo quien determine de que disco vamos a hablar, también me gustaría recibir sus recomendaciones y opiniones sobre diferentes discos, mi objetivo es recomendar discos nuevos, pero por supuesto que estoy dispuesto a hablar de cualquier disco.

Fantasía Funesta

Tengo en mis manos el tan esperado disco de Viernes Verde, Fantasía Funesta, y por cierto me alegra mucho dar el primer paso de este blog hablando de este disco. La idea general del disco es simple, la alineación clásica de Viernes Verde esta vez de la mano con Antonio Aragon en los teclados y arreglos, Eduardo Santella como ingeniero de grabación e Igor Cubrilovic a cargo de la mezcla y materización. Como siempre encontramos una introducción al disco, algo que Viernes Verde viene practicando desde su “Remedios Para el Alma”, y luego con “Enfrentando a la serpiente de agua” de “Con Piedras, Palos y Flores”. Sin embargo esta vez, forma parte de la primera canción, así como en “Como me arrastro” aunque mas corta, mucho mas corta diría yo, pero no por eso no deja ser claro el mensaje que Viernes Verde nos quiere dar: El hecho de haber llegado al pueblo de Fantasía Funesta.

Como recorrido general el disco nos sorprende varias veces con géneros a los que Viernes Verde no nos tenia acostumbrados, además encontramos dos intros para Jhyrann Duerme (R.E.M.) y Tyox (Sincope Azul) respectivamente.

Sobre las canciones:

Fantasía Funesta:

La canción que nos da la bienvenida y que nos introduce al disco, escuchamos el galope de un caballo, seguido de un sonido que pareciera la entrada a otra dimensión, para que luego de una forma explosiva empiece la canción directamente, con la voz de Omar cantando “Desperté en un camino, en medio de la nada…” una canción que de principio a fin nos hace mover la cabeza de arriba a abajo y de derecha a izquierda, con un feelin’ que nos hace querer brincar, la batería con un “hit hat” a semi corcheas bien marcado y un bajo bien potente, permiten que tanto Omar como Paco (Toky) se explayen a sus anchas. Por un lado Omar nos hace gala de una voz ya bien añejada por el tiempo sin perder su particular sonido, y por el otro Toky toca la guitarra de manera potente y clara, el piano al igual que las voces de los niños jugando añaden una dimensión como la que Viernes Verde logro conseguir con “El Simio” en Remedios Para el Alma. Sin duda no había mejor elección para abrir el disco que esta.

Irremediable

En el segundo sencillo del disco y a la vez el segundo track, Viernes Verde nos presenta una canción cargada de fuerza, Omar aborda la canción con una pasión que se exalta cuando vocaliza solo en una demostración impresionante de lo que tantos años de cantar han hecho con su manejo de la voz. La letra es clara, y simple, sin perder la energía en ningún momento. A mi gusto la canción con la interpretación mas dramática del disco, tanto del lado de los instrumentistas como del vocalista.

El Espejo del cielo

Viernes Verde dice que esta canción fue compuesta para la conservación del lago de Atitlan, es una balada donde de nuevo Viernes Verde nos demuestra esa fuerza tan clásica en sus interpretaciones, con una introducción en los versos con guitarra eléctrica sin distorsión, que hace que al momento de entrar la misma, la canción cobre una dimensión mas dramática. El outro no pierde potencia en ningún momento, lejos de eso la canción se vuelve mas rápida creando un ambiente de alegría y celebración.

La danza de Quiscalus Atratus

La canción mas incomprendida, desde mi punto de vista, del disco que se nos presenta en forma de balada, con arreglos en la introducción un tanto psicodélicos y es aquí donde Viernes Verde toma un camino diferente a lo que nos tenia acostumbrados, por momentos podemos escuchar arreglos que suenan un tanto a The Mars Volta y rápidamente mutan a un sonido particular que podríamos llamar psicoviernes, a lo largo de la canción sobresale una interpretación con la guitarra en un primer plano, y ritmos en la batería que le dan una dimensión sonora muy particular, lo mas psicodélico de Viernes Verde. Se despide con un puente largo y lleno de emotividad.

Devuelve al Mar

Toky hace uso, a lo largo de la canción, del mundialmente famoso Whammy (efecto al que por cierto le tengo un gran respeto por la dimensión de sus posibilidades) lamentablemente, no de la mejor manera, puesto que solo se reduce a bajar y subir la afinación de la nota en si. (escucha Touching Tongues (1:14 min) de Steve Vai del album Sex & Religion ó Searching (0:54 min) de Satriani del Is There Love in Space para un criterio mas amplio del efecto).

Los arreglos del bajo son audibles lo que le da un cuerpo muy solidó a la canción, la fuerza interpretativa en la voz de Omar nos hacer querer gritar la canción con todas la fuerzas. La temática de la canción trata de enviarnos un mensaje que invita a empezar de cero, a no darnos por vencidos y volver arriesgarnos en este viaje tan maravilloso que es la vida.

Nunca Mas

La gran sorpresa del disco, sin duda la canción mas polémica del álbum, puesto que he recibido criticas tanto de agrado como de desagrado referentes a este tema. Por mi parte solo diré, que siempre es admirable que un artista se atreva a incursionar fusiones de géneros a los que no esta acostumbrados, ya sea que logren o no su objetivo.

Pues bien la canción es una fusión ranchera con la esencia de Viernes Verde, lo que hace que el tema sea como dije anteriormente una sorpresa. Fuera de los diversos puntos de vista que genera este tema, la energia y pasión con la Viernes Verde abordó cada uno de los temas hacen que este sencillo sea realmente dramático, transportándonos a una atmósfera hasta cierto punto Bunburyana, por supuesto el acompañamiento en coro al final del tema logra hacernos sentir las emociones a flor de piel, desde mi punto de vista esta al lado de Irremediable en lo que respecta a emotividad, pasión y dramatismo.

R.E.M. y Jhyrann Duerme

R.E.M. no es otra cosa que la introducción a Jhyrann Duerme, algo así como lo que “Las Plañideras” fueron para El Sol Dice. R.E.M. nos transporta, gracias al sonido del sintetizador, a un mundo de sueños que es donde Jhyrann duerme.

Luego de la introducción se nos presenta Jhyrann Duerme, tema al que Omar llamo “la historia de amor mas triste del mundo” en el concierto de presentación del disco.

Lo mas sorprendente de la canción es la melodía vocal y la letra, frases como “Ay!, como duele amar a una pared, no se le puede retorcer las viseras y obligarle a sentir” nos hacen sentir identificados con el tema. Considero este tema como la tercera parte de la historia iniciada con “Me Arrastro” del Remedios Para el Alma, sucedida por “Me haras Sangrar” de Con Piedras, Palos y Flores y que ahora llega a su conclusión con Tyox. tema cargado de vitalidad.

Sincope Azul y Tyox

De nuevo Sincope Azul es la intro de Tyox, y al igual que Jhyrann Duerme, son creaciones de Paco Marroquin (Toky). Tema fuerte con una voz rabiosa a cargo de Omar y a la vez frenético y caótico.

2 Monedas de Oro para Dance Misterio

Este personaje (Dance Misterio) hace su aparición al lado de Los Mojarras. Esta vez es Viernes Verde quienes le hacen una canción, lejos del surf/indie de los Mojarras la canción nos hace recordar a veces a Ace Of Spades de Motorhead. Tema cargado de energia, ritmo y coraje, excelente tema para abrir un concierto, la letra es simple pero la interpretación musical de cada integrante esta llena de pasión. Retomando de nuevo la experimentación con influencias, el tema cierra con un poco de tango que luego se convierte, gracias a Carlos “Pasaron” Franco, en un desenfreno total con un grito al estilo Trash Metal y se cierra el tema con una gran carga de furia.

Carmen

De este tema se puede decir que Viernes Verde logra llevar el sentimentalismo de su versión anterior un paso mas allá, pues la batería, el bajo, y el manejo de los efectos en la guitarra hacen que el tema este todavía mas cargado de sentimientos, no me refiero a una canción balada, sino por el contrario un sentimentalismo pasional, pareciera que esta vez Carmen esta llorando mientras tocan el tema pues Omar grita con todas sus fuerzas lo que antes fue un tema relajado, y que ahora toma una dimensión aun mas trágica.

Nadie se Atreve

Para mi la canción mas dulce y tierna del disco. Viernes Verde presentan este tema como un reto a todos a poder comprometernos en una relación seria. Un tema dedicado al matrimonio, abordan el tema de manera simple con una letra que lo dice todo, efectos en el bajo y una guitarra clara y limpia complementan el sonido, muy bien logrado el tema, mi favorito del disco. Son frases como “solo de lejos la miras, mejor por que no hablas y le entregas el alma” y “Nadie se atreve a aparecer de rodillas ante un mortal y humillarse por amor” son las que hacen que este tema sea bien recibido por toda clase de publico.

Raiz Animal

Tema que me hace recordar a un Omar con rastas moviendo la cabeza de un lado a otro, pareciera que estuviéramos escuchando a un Viernes Verde formado por personas de menor edad, fresco en todo momento, un tema que pareciera ser simple pero no malo, excelente para que, tanto Viernes Verde como su publico puedan disfrutar de su interpretación. Una vez mas un tema cargado de energia en toda la extensión de la palabra y en toda la extensión del tema.

Más Sabe el Diablo

La canción la habíamos estado oyendo en conciertos de Viernes Verde desde hace rato y esta dedicado a sus papás. Tema enérgico, lento pero con la suficiente pasión para hacernos corear la letra, de nuevo toques psicodélicos en la guitarra en algunos momentos de la canción hacen que la dimensión dramática se explaye. Una manera genial de terminar el recorrido por este pueblo llamado Fantasía Funesta.

Como ultimas palabras diré que el disco es una digna secuela de Con Piedras, Palos y Flores, lamentablemente se extrañan riffs de guitarra como en “Siento que no siento” o “Pantera Onca” que pasaron a formar parte del catalogo clásico que cualquier joven guitarrista guatemalteco, además de carecer guitarras tan melódicas como en “Lejos del Suelo” y “Abrazar la niebla”. Sin embargo, la fuerza, la energía, la pasión y la emotividad plasmada en este disco lo hacen digno de formar parte del repertorio de Viernes Verde, no llega a ser tan bueno como Remedios para el Alma u Oscuro pero tiene mucho que ofrecer.

Otra de las cosas en las que quiero recalcar fue la gran promoción que se le hizo a las ilustraciones de las canciones y que lamentablemente no venían con el disco, pues el mismo no cuenta mas que con un par de ilustraciones lo que le hacen ver como una manera minimalista de presentarlo. Tambien me lamento de haber recibido, el dia del concierto, un disco quebrado pero supongo que son cosas que pasan.

Hola, aqui les escribo de nuevo pero cambiando un poco los temas hoy les escribiré sobre el desfile de bandas del 15 de Septiembre (día de la independencia en mi país).

Mas de alguno que lea esto es de los que marchan, otros de los que bailan, otros de los que miran el desfile en la tele y talvez uno que otro que va a ver el desfile…

Algunos me entenderán con lo que hablaré en los siguientes parrafos…

Yo desde que era pequeña he sido muy patriota y siempre me emocionaba por pertenecer a una banda, marchar y talvez tocar algun instrumento, pero lastimosamente la banda que tenia el colegio se desintegró cuando yo a penas tenía 4 años… entonces no tuve mucha experiencia en eso mas que salir a marchar con todos mis compañeritos.

Luego tenía la ilusión de ir a ver las bandas a la zona 1, a mi mamá no le gustan las amontonasones y pues nunca me llevó, hasta que tuve la oportunidad de pedirle a mi novio que me llevara y el sin dudarlo me acompañó para darme gusto.

La experiencia fue inolvidable! Un poco cansada pero realmente era lo que queria! o no?

Nosotros llegamos al desfile a las 7:00 am para tomar buen lugar, y en efecto las bandas desfilaban directamente hacia nosotros! Pero los problemas empezaron cuando daban mas o menos las 8:30 y ya iba a empezar el desfile… ya habia llegado muchisima gente que teníamos atras, mas la gente que estaba adelante de nosotros, eramos el queso del sandwich! Igual no me importo y traté de disfrutar el inicio del desfile…. pero en eso la gente empezó a abrir sus sombrillas para taparse del sol… lo que no pensaban era que también tapaban la visibilidad de los que estaban atrás de ellos… literalmente no mirabamos nada por la sombrilla que puso una señora indígena que estaba frente a nosotros.

Al poco tiempo la demás gente le empezó a gritar hasta que cerró la sombrilla. Ya mirabamos muy bien las bandas! Algo magestuoso, algo que realmente no puedo describir de lo hermoso que es! Los niños se esmeran todo el año y los maestros los entrenan hasta perfeccionar sus notas, sus movimientos, en fin… todo perfecto! Pero luego empiezo a sentir un olor… o mas bien un ODOR espantoso! … Era la misma señora! En ningún momento vi que tenía un niño adelantito de ella y como que estuviera en su casa le empezó a cambiar el pañal!! Se pueden imaginar que disgusto para todos los que estabamos ahi!!!

Bueno, pasó eso, la señora no se como se deshizo del pañal y ya la peste desapareció ( o talvez nos acostumbramos a ella :S ).  Luego seguimos viendo las bandas latinas (mis preferidas), los jovencitos tocan sus instrumentos musicales y a la vez bailan! ME ENCANTA ESO!! Mientras disfrutaba de estas bandas me empiezan a apachar mas y mas, mis piernas ya estaban dormidas, mi espalda quebrada del dolor, mi piel quemada por el sol y mi estómago super apachado… ese fue el momento en que le pedí a mi novio que nos fueramos porque me imaginé que el estaba igual o quizá peor, entonces cuando nos dimos la vuelta para salir del tumulto de gente, nos vamos dando cuenta que teniamos unas 5 o 6 capas (filas) de personas atrás de nosotros…  es increible la cantidad de gente que llega a estas actividades!

Poco a poco logramos salir del tumulto de gente, y a pesar de todas las cosas que vivimos ahi, creo que logré ver lo que mas quería: El desfile del 15 de Septiembre, teniendo que sufrir por muchas cosas, pero no me arrepiento de haber ido!

Lake Murray SC Real Estate Report for September 2009

There were eleven closings for single family homes on Lake Murray for the month of September. The average DOM for these listings were 133 days with an average square foot sales price of $153. Six homes sold in Chapin, two homes in Lexington, one home in Prosperrity, one home in Irmo, and one home in Leesville.

For the same time period in 2008 there were 13 homes closed on Lake Murray with an average of 138 DOM. These homes had an average square foot sales price of $189.

There are currently 285 homes listed on Lake Murray. These homes range in price from $159,000 to $3,750,000.

There were two lot sales on Lake Murray for the month of September. These lots were both located in Lexington in Cherokee Shores. One lot sold for $171,000 and was on the market for 140 days the other lot sold for $255,000 and was on the market for 29 days.

For the same period in 2008 there were 4 lots closed on Lake Murray with an average of 133 DOM. The average lot price was $205,288.

There are currently 343 listings for land on Lake Murray. The prices range from $29,000 to $4,500,000.

Although there are many variables that are associated with the property values on Lake Murray this data is a good indication that it is a good time to be in the market for the purchase of a home or land on Lake Murray.

The highest priced Lake Murray Home sold for $850,000 and the lowest priced Lake Murray Home sold for $287,500. These Lake Murray Homes were on the market for an average of 136 days.

For this same month last year there were 9 homes closed on Lake Murray with an average SF price of $170.42. The highest priced Lake Murray Home sold for $780,000 and the lowest priced Lake Murray Home sold for $182,000. These Lake Murray Homes were on the market an average 100 days.

The Lake Murray Home Sales are similar for this period as compared to last year. For the last several months though the home prices in the higher priced lake homes (over $850k) have seen significant price reductions. However the last several weeks there has been an increase in price reductions seen in the lower priced homes too. Are home values still going down?  Is the market stabilizing?  Should I wait to sell my home?  While there are no real answers to these questions, there are definitely no shortages of opinion, some positive and some not so much. There is one fact that remains the same: there are no guarantees.  This month is seeing increased activity, but so did February.  Does that mean the market is stabilizing?  No, not necessarily.  It could mean that homeowners are getting more realistic or desperate, which can also drive values down.  The most important  part of pricing in this market is to price in FRONT of the curve.  In other words,  if a seller is trying to sell a home for 400,000 dollars in a market that is decreasing 12% a year,  the seller would be better off to price that home in front of the curve at the estimated value in 3 months ( in this case that would be 388,000).  In a down market or a buyers market,  there are more sellers than there are people willing or able to purchase properties.  As a  result, inventory rises and sellers are constantly chasing the curve or the “market”.  With inventory up and fewer buyers there is less chance of selling at the perceived “market value”.

Well, I say get in front of the curve or market.  If you realize this lesson late you will without question lose more money that you should.  It is always better to take a smaller cut sooner than a bigger cut later.  Timing is everything and no one knows when the market will turn, but don’t be blindly optimistic; it could take 10 years for prices to return to where they were 2 years ago.

This might not be great news, but there is a reason it’s called a down market: values are DOWN.
