Esta tuvo lugar en el DF, en la Casa del Lago de Chapultepec este pasado miercoles 28 de octubre.

Buen viaje, buena compañía. Muy enriquecedor trabajar y conocer a gente como Blek Le Rat, Michael Coleman,Teddy Kelly, Wachavato, La Piztola, Acamochi, Ciler y demas.

Agradecimiento especial para Diego Padilla y la gente de Casa del Lago. Nos trataron de maravilla. Gracias a Mitsy por la entrevista, a Catana por el casual encuentro y a todos los amigos que nos visitaron en la inauguración.

Ademas tuvimos la oportunidad de recorrer un poco la ciudad, por esto encontraran algunas fotos extra de lo que nos llamo la atención… caos urbano, arquitectura de Pani y un que otro museo que tuvimos oportunidad de visitar.

Cabe aclarar que estas imágenes fueron tomadas al mas puro estilo de la fotografía análoga, disfruten su textura.

• Al día siguiente regresamos de nuevo a la zona del Bosque Chapultepec, ya que nuestro itinerario del día era visitar el espectacular Museo Nacional de Antropología e Historia. es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museo_Nacional_de_Antropología_(México)

 Este museo, no cabe duda es de los mejores del mundo, desde su arquitectura, fue planeado y realizado por uno de los mejores arquitectos de la época: Pedro Ramírez Vázquez  y con la ayuda de los arquitectos  Jorge Campuzano, Rafael Mijares y Ricardo  de Robina.

Tardo un año su construcción y fue inaugurado en el año 1964 por el entonces presidente  Adolfo López Mateos. El museo se divide por  áreas techadas y al descubierto.  En lo que son sus salas, tiene once  dedicadas a la arqueología que viene siendo la planta baja y en el primer piso hay once salas que se refieren la etnografía del país con los usos y costumbres de las diferentes etnias del país.

 En la zona externa tiene vestigios de las culturas que habitaron el México prehispánico. Aparte este museo tiene tres auditorios, salas para exposiciones temporales, un restaurante  y la tienda del museo.

• Cuando uno llega al museo lo primero que  se disfruta es el enorme monolito de 180 toneladas del Dios Tláloc, es Dios de la lluvia que da la bienvenida a todos los paseantes. También ,antes de entrar, a un costado del lugar pudimos ver el espectáculo de los voladores de Papantlaen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danza_de_los_Voladores_de_Papantla

A, los cuales desde un enorme palo con una base que da vueltas, se dejan caer amarrados de los pies, dando vueltas hasta llegar al piso, realmente es una tradición que vale la pena ver.

Built in 1923 by Mexican biologist Alfonso Luis Herrera, the “Zoologico de Chapultepec” is the largest of four zoos near Mexico City.

We visited the zoo on a Sunday afternoon and were pleasantly suppressed when we found out that admission was free, however due to this the crowds make it difficult to get close to some of the displays.

La zona de Chapultepec  es un sitio ideal para el turista, ya que aquí hay una variedad importante de museos y actividades para disfrutar, después de salir de la visita por el Castillo de Chapultepec, por el paseo de la reforma llegamos a la importante zona de los museos, los cuales  ofrecen gran variedad de corrientes  artisticasy obras de arte desde el México prehispánico hasta el arte moderno del siglo XX, como son el Museo  nacional de antropologia, el museo Rufino Tamayo y el de Arte Moderno.

Empezamos nuestra visita en el museo de arte moderno mx.encarta.msn.com/…/Museo_de_Arte_Moderno_México.html en cual fue abierto en 1964 es de  estilo circular este museo tiene 6 salas más aparte las obras  de arte y esculturas que tienen en los jardines, este museo cuenta con salas de exposiciones permanentes de la escuela mexicana de pintura, en donde hay pinturas de José  Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Frida Kahlo tierra.free-people.net/artes/pintura-frida-kahlo.php  entre otros grandes artista.

Estas salas son de Xavier Villaurrutia y  Carlos Pellicer, también tiene una hemeroteca y fototeca muy interesantes. Este museo no está grande como los otros, pero no es menos interesante.

La habitación morada tiene la puerta un tanto abierta. Sólo entra un poco de luz, por lo que se alcanza a ver la luna colgada del techo con el payaso de la tenue sonrisa.

La semana pasada tuve la oportunidad de visitar el mariposario en el bosque de Chapúltepec. Esta fué mi segunda visita a este hermoso lugar, en donde se encuentran diversas variedades de mariposas trópicales de México. Debo confesar que la belleza de algunas de estas mariposas me dejarón con el ojo cuadrado. Aunque dificiles de fotografiar, por su constante aleteo y su manera de volar, pude tomar algunas fotos de ellas. Espero disfruten las fotos.

Last week, I had the chance of visiting the butterfly house in Chapultepec Park. This was the my second visit to this beautiful place, where you can find several tropical species of butterflies from around the country. I must confess that the beauty of these butterflies really caught my eye, and although i tried to photograph them, it was a hard task. The butterflies are quick and fly in a very funny way. However I did take some pictures, hope you enjoy them.

This one was trying to flavor me!! hehehe.

So I finally got to return to Mexico City as an adult, after not visiting the metropolis since I was 13.

The city to say the least is amazing. It is not the most beautiful city in the world, and it does have its share of problems (crime, pollution); however, for a city of over 19 million, the city is extremely clean and beautifully up-kept. Rows of trees line almost every street, making this one of the greenest cities I`ve ever been too, and cleaning crews keep the streets litter free.

The city has a fantastic mix of old, semi-old and new. In the city`s historic centre, you can admire the ruins of an 800 year old Aztec Temple overlooking a 450 year old Spanish Cathedral, with the `Torre Latinoamericna,` a skyscraper built in the 1950s, seen in the distance.

Another great thing about Mexico City is that there are so many things to see and do in and around the city that it will take you a while to get your fill. An interesting fact is that the Greater Area of Mexico City has more museums than any other city in the world, including London and Cairo! – Best part? No museum entrance costs more than CDN$5!

As the tourists that we were, we decided (through recommendation of our friends) to take the Turibus around the city (Mexico City`s hop-on hop-off system). This turned out to be a fantastic idea as it allowed us to move easily through the gigantic city, and ensured that we didn`t miss too many highlights of the city.
The Turibus takes you all over down Reforma Avenue (a 12km straight boulevard which runs right down the middle of the city), around Polanco (Mexico City`s up and coming business district), Chapultepec Park, La Condesa (Mexico City`s trendy neighbourhood), and the historic centre. During the 3.5 hour actual driving time, the bus passes by multiple monuments as well as through a mix of highly interesting old and modern architecture, and stops at various tourist stops, while narrating historical information and interesting facts about the city.
While on the top, uncovered deck of the bus, we were able to get some fresh air, some sun, while exploring the city. Of course, the best moments are when you are off the bus and exploring the city, attractions and museums, by foot!

El Zocalo (main city Square)
The Zocalo is not only one of the world`s biggest squares, but also plays an important part in the history of Mexico. Smack right int he middle of the Historic Centre, the entire area of the Square and the surrounding buildings were where the Aztec Empire of Tenochtitlan once stood. The Zocalo, which can hold over 200,000 people, is an outside Venue where Orchestras, public concerts, trading fairs, political rallies, and various other events are held. Historic Buildings surrounding the square make the Zocalo itself a good day`s worth of touring.

-National Palace
As an interesting fact, this building, built over 400 years ago, was built from the torn-down materials of the palace of Monctezuma II (former Mexico`s emperor at the time of the Spanish invasion).
The building itself is a grand European-styled colonial building, with various enclosed patios and gardens, beautiful wroth-iron handrails, carved stone, and gold-leaf details all around.
The National Palace works as the Parliament offices for the president and the federal government workers, but it`s also the home to a museum on the Mexican independence. The highlight of the National Palace for me were the tens of murals by Diego Rivera, depicting historic moments in the country`s history.

-Metropolitan Cathedral
This Gothic-styled Cathedral (which happens to be the oldest and biggest in the continent) was built with the stones of the torn-down Aztec Templo Mayor. The construction of the building took over 200 years to be fully completed!
The cathedral has 16 unique chapels along with the main room, all decorated with tens of life-sized religious figures, wooden carvings, and lots of gold!

-Aztec Ruins of the ‘Main Temple’
The leftovers of the Templo Mayor are perhaps one of the most amazing places to visit in Mexico City. Although in ruins, it is easy to see and feel the grandeur of the former main Aztec Temple when walking through the ruins. Many of the original stone carvings (snakes, people, gods and deities, etc.), as well as pots, utensils and jewelry found inside the tombs of the temple, have now been replaced with replicas or completely taken away, but the originals can now be seen in the museum built next to the ruins.
The most amazing piece found in these ruins (which is now inside the museum) is a large stone disc (a couple of metres in diameter) depicting the dismembered body of the Aztec deity Coyolxauhqui, who was murdered and dismembered by her brother, the god of war, and then thrown into the sky, where she became the moon. The disc is not only of great historical value, but it is also beautiful

Chapultepec Park
This enormous park fits right in with the size of Mexico City. It`d be hard to believe this enormous green space is in the middle of such a busy city if it was not for the towering sky scrapers that can be seen popping up above the trees.
Aside from being a green area, the park is also home to a few museums, a zoo, two huge man-made lagoons and an amusement fair.

-Chapultepec Castle
This castle, which sits atop a hill in the middle of  Chapultepec Park, has served a number of different purposes through its existence, as a military academy, as the home to emperors and presidents, and now as the National History Museum for the country.
The castle houses hundreds of paintings by artists from all over the world as well as antique furniture, clothing and utensils from the colonial area. Beautiful multi-level gardens and plazas adorn the castle`s outside, while terraces around it offer beautiful panoramic views of the city from various angles.

-National Museum of Anthropology
It is hands-down one of the best collections of ancient artifacts, carvings, statues and utensils in the world! Artifacts from over 50 pre-Hispanic cultures in Mexico cover the massive lower floor, along with replicas of aboriginal buildings from all around the country.
The top floor contains post-Hispanic cultural art, clothing and other utensils that are still utilized today by Mexican aboriginal people!
My favourites were by far the Mayan collection, as well as the huge Aztec calendar carved on a stone disc.

-Zoo
The zoo was cool for a couple of reasons. It not only housed animals that can be seen in any zoo, but also a few native Mexican animals that can only be seen there! – The zoo is huge, and best of all, it is a free attraction!

Southern Mexico
On our last day in the city, we decided to venture out of the city centre towards the south.

-University City
Believe it or not, the University City itself was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in the 90s. This is in part to the beautiful art displayed in a couple of the buildings, such as a 3D mural made by Diego Rivera, plastered into the facade of the Olympic Stadium, and the cube-shaped Library building, which contains ground to roof murals on the four outside walls of the building – the murals are made entirely of tiles.

-Coyoacan
Once a smaller town nearby the bustling metropolitan city of Mexico City, Coyoacan has now become a suburb of the city as the city centre continues to expand outwards.
We visited the town on a Saturday, to take advantage of the weekend market, where you can visit hundreds of locals selling everything from Mexican snacks (esquites – boiled or grilled corn with spices; snow cones; milk candy), to clothes, to souvenirs of all kinds.
Another main reason why we visited the area was to visit the Museum (and former house) of Frida Khalo. Not only do you get to see some (although few) of the Mexican artist`s pieces, along with some of the pieces by her husband Diego Rivera, but you also get to see their house with original furniture, books and decorations, and even get a glimpse into Khalo`s painful life by witnessing a couple of her body casts, family pictures, and her sorrowful journal.

Mexico City has a lot more to offer, but we had run out of time, unfortunately! – A place I remember from my childhood which i recommend to any visitors is the floating gardens of Xochimilco, which, although a little hard to get to, are well worth it, and give you a glimpse into the way Tenochtitlan (Mexico`s former Aztec empire) used to look like.

The Mexico City Marathon is just three weeks away, and my preparations are going just fine. Occasional short jogs, max 5kms, plenty of smoking and…not much else. Oh, and a quick run through Chapultepec yesterday. Quick as in my recorded time, rather than the length of the run. There were two options. A lengthy 26kms for those intending to do the full marathon. Or a still lengthy, but not quite as murderous, 15kms route for the half marathon runners. Needless to say, I chose the latter.

I met the friend I am running the half marathon with at Auditorio Nacional (photo top left), a theatre I have passed many, many times. But never quite this early in the morning. He wasn’t running today, but his wife was, and he came along to cheer. We met again at the end (photo top right), after the run. It’s a good sight, the finishing line. I can’t put into words just how glad it makes one to see it, after all that jogging.

As for my run, I was bloody impressed with myself, even if I do say so myself. On Fathers Day I ran a half marathon, finishing a good 20 minutes behind my friends wife, averaging 6.50 seconds per km. Yesterday I finished 3 minutes ahead of her in 1 hour and 27 minutes, averaging a pretty rapid 5.40 minutes per km, mas o menos. My goal is to do the half marathon in under 2 hours. The Run Calculator I use tells me that I’m currently on target for 2 hours 5 mins. And I still haven’t given up smoking. I shall though, I swear! Mañana. I must. I think I can beat 2 hours anyway. But I know, even if I gave up smoking for just a week, that I could get well below 2 hours. My knee is still causing me a lot of pain though. I suspect it will need a knife to fix. And I’ll leave that till I get back to the UK.

Mexico City might not know how to manage water supplies, but they do know how to organise road races. This was my second, and both were superbly run. This one was a little pricey at 330 pesos, but they did throw in a grey sweater, as modelled by me above, as well as the usual running short. At the end there was pizza (I helped myself to an extra slice) and fruit (which I left for others to enjoy) as well as plenty of Gatorade, water and juices. It’s all quite a good laugh. I recommend it to anyone, even those who don’t really run. There are plenty of 5km and 10km races for those who are less inclined to exert themselves too much. And at the end, everyone gets a nice medal!

Muchas de las grandes ciudades en México tienen una historia familiar a partir de los años 1500 durante la conquista española. Sin embargo, la parte interesante de Zapopan es que primero fue habitada hasta bien entrado el 1100 por una variedad de tribus indígenas que han dejado una impresión en el sociedad que sigue siendo hoy en día. Las civilizaciones antiguas que vagaban por el territorio de Zapopan, México son el totonaca, otomí, zapoteco y tribus tarasca. Posteriormente, un seguimiento de las tribus aztecas uto se detectó aquí a través de restos arqueológicos y los artefactos.

Zapopan fue una de las últimas áreas que caen bajo el control de los españoles. Esta conquista varió desde fines de los años 1520 a 1540. La razón de su conquista fue en gran parte posible gracias a la alianza de los españoles con las tribus tlaxcaltecas que eran grandes enemigos de los que residía en la tierra Zapopan. En la década de 1530, la tierra estaba realmente desierta, pero en 1540 fue de nuevo bajo control español.

Debido a su proximidad geográfica a Monterrey, muchos habitantes de Zapopan jugó un papel importante en la batalla de la Guerra Mexicano-Americano, la batalla de Monterrey. También participaron en una variedad de otras batallas como en San Luis Potosí, Chapultepec, Saltillo y Churubusco. Los de Zapopan parecen ser de soldados, ya que muchos también luchó por Jalisco contra los franceses, desempeñó un papel en la Revolución Mexicana en contra de la Corona española y en la guerra cristiana.

Probablemente debido a todos los de su participación en guerras en los últimos años, Zapopan créditos para el caldo de cultivo perfecto para las ideas y los partidos políticos a aumentar, como el Partido Acción Nacional o el Partido de Acción Nacional.

Hoy Zapopan ha convertido en una gran ciudad industrial y el área política. El está adornada con muchos edificios de cielo, así como fábricas textiles. Dispone de las más rentables e importantes fábricas y las empresas encuentran dentro de sus límites de la ciudad como la Corporación de Flextronics, Jabil Electrónica y Empresas Tajín. Zapopan también es apoyado por el turismo local, donde una fracción de su economía se deriva.

De dos a tres millones de personas en proceso con la estatua de la Virgen de Zapopan de la Catedral de Guadalajara a la Basílica de Zapopan. Es un sitio increíble! La gente se viste con los trajes indígenas y muchos de ellos de danza en honor de Nuestra Señora. Toda la ciudad de Guadalajara se cierra la procesión / desfile. Aquí hay más información sobre esta milagrosa imagen de Nuestra Señora: 12 de octubre Día de Cristóbal Colón a los medios estadounidenses, pero a los buenos ciudadanos de México, 12 de octubre también es el día del “Paseo de la Señora de Zapopan” se “casa” para pasar el otoño y el invierno en su majestuosa basílica. Al sur de la frontera, este fresco día de otoño en realidad es “El Día de la Raza”, la fiesta nacional importante, ya que marca para estas personas el nuevo flujo de la sangre humana que pasó en la Nueva España como uno de los principales efectos de Colón viaje. Como resultado de la conquista, México se convirtió predominantemente poblada por mestizos, indios o español. Para predecir las características físicas de los mestizos fue la aparición de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en 1531, cuando el retrato de la Virgen María como una mujer española-indígena apareció en la tilma de Juan Diego.

El antiguo convento franciscano en Zapopan, Guadalajara, primera casa de la Virgen, y la joya de la capital del estado de Jalisco, celebra “El Día de los mestizos” de rendir homenaje al éxtasis “La Virgencita”, como Nuestra Señora de Zapopan. Ella es de origen español, pero totalmente mexicano en la tradición de más de cuatrocientos años que rodean a su culto. Fue llevada a Zapopan por el padre Antonio de Segovia, en 1541, la “Virgencita”, menos de catorce pulgadas de alto, se encontró en el corazón de un territorio, entonces llamada Nueva Galicia, todavía bajo la conquista de Nuñe de Guzmán. La imagen preciosa, que el corazón caliente de la personifica de México, fue el instrumento por el cual a su vez concedido el cielo de los temores y odios de los indígenas en la confianza y el amor que permitió a los franciscanos celo a fin de reunirlos en el redil del Buen Pastor. La historia se cuenta que, como él predicaba, la pequeña estatua de la Virgen que siempre llevaba con él, emite rayos de luz. El resplandor milagroso parecía penetrar en las almas de los indios y los convierten en los buques listos para las aguas de la gracia.

Justo como en Londres, la ciudad de México también cuenta con un gran camión turístico rojo de dos pisos que te lleva a pasear por la ciudad. Una de las mejores maneras de conocer y viajar en el DF, te da a conocer los puntos turísticos y las principales atracciones de la gran metrópolis.

La ciudad de México es famosa por ser la ciudad más grande del mundo y el turibus te ofrece la oportunidad de conocer puntos importantes de manera cómoda y segura. El turibus cuenta con 2 rutas, el circuito Chapultepec Centro Histórico y el circuito Sur. El servicio opera de 9 de la mañana a 9 de la noche y cuenta con 20 y 15 paradas dependiendo el circuito. Puedes tomar el turibus en cualquiera de las paradas, incluso puedes re-utilizar el servicio el mismo día con el boleto que compraste.

La vista desde el turibus te ofrece los más representativos atractivos del DF como lugares arqueológicos, coloniales modernos y contemporáneos, en un paseo divertido y cultural. El recorrido completo por cada circuito es de alrededor 3 horas. Ven de vacaciones a la ciudad de México te va a encantar el paisaje caluroso de esta hermosa ciudad.

No creo entender. Es complejo a veces. En otras ocasiones las cosas se vuelven más claras. La ceguera me está acorralando. Probablemente sea yo o tu. Probablemente sea todo.

Tan sólo buscar la respuesta me genera un vacío. Como si cayera en un hoyo totalmente sin final. Así, es como el sentir de mis pasos, ideas, de mis pensamientos a cada instante se tornan. Como un hoyo, oscuro, vacío, sin final.Ahogándome. Así me siento. Tal vez habrá algún remedio ante toda esta situación. Pero no puedo. Mi cuerpo, se siente frío y ha tomado un color algo extraño, claro, palidezco. Busco con mis manos entender si algo está pasando, busco tantear si esta transformación que estoy padeciendo es parte de algo. No puedo comprender. Mi mente divaga profusamente.

Acostado, en esta cama, tambaleante, es como observo. Pero no me siento. La preocupación me envuelve. Como si un manto estuviera acobijando, frío, seco. Sólo puedo observar. Sólo puedo ser vidente de mi propio cuerpo.

La desesperación de saberme, entender lo que sucede me corroe. Noto en este instante el color de mis uñas, un color púrpura que se transforma poco a poco, más intenso. El frío se hace intenso. Y así, en tan sólo un instante. Ese lugar profundo, negro como el alma de quien la maldad se ha apoderado detona un color blanco. Algo que se acerca de forma intensa y uniforme.

Al final de todo. Puedo verme. Parado frente a mi, acostado. Siendo testigo de mi color pálido, de mi tono frío. Al final de todo, me he dado cuenta que, sin razón conocida, estoy muerto…

cuánto ha cambiado el sentido de esta barco en el que viajo desde el momento en el que besé tus labios y la orientación del mismo tomó un rubo diferente.

No sabes…la cantidad de cosas lindas experimenta este personaje que te escribe y que ahora desea tanto verte, anhelarte, tocarte, sentirte.

el por qué de mis incansables locuras por buscar esa frase o palabra adecuada para escribirte esto que lees en tan solo unos instantes y que al final sólo te dirá un mensaje:

No sabes cuanto te extraño y cómo los latidos que este corazón que porto frasean cada letra de tu nombre…no sabes.

Terminando de tomar las fotos del relajo que habia en la minerva y de los arcos, camine hacia el oriente por la calle Morelos hasta avenida Chapultepec y tome unas fotos de algunos lugares interesantes; algunos edificios modernos, otros no tanto, y una que otra casa con un estilo muy de los 40’s y 50’s como muchas que hay por esa zona.

¡Qué difícil es hacerse un hábito! Apenas llevo dos días yendo a caminar a Chapultepec y estoy muerta.  Seguramente hay gente con mala condición física y yo.

La gente que conozco que hace ejercicio dice que después me va a dar más energía, en lugar de chupármela. Si ustedes lo dicen…

Ayer regresé a mi casa después de caminar y me quedé dormida como 2 horas y estuve cansada todo el día; para las once de la noche, se me cerraban los ojos. Entonces entendí que yo – como niña chiquita- necesito cansarme para dormirme temprano (pero esa es otra historia).

Hoy también fui a caminar, regresé hace unos momentos y me dolían los pies, pero no hice mucho caso. Cuando me metí a bañar me di cuenta que están todos ampollados – ni aguanto nada, caray- .

No sé qué me traigo con el ejercicio, nunca me ha gustado… he entrado a todas las disciplinas habidas y por haber y nada. No le encuentro el gusto, me pone de mal humor. Pero según yo, este año –aunque no me guste- trataré de moverme un poco más. Aunque sea caminar… la idea es mover el esqueleto, porque está un poco anquilosado y tengo que hacer algo por él.

Así que, ya les iré contando cómo me va con mi propósito. Creo que cada año me lo propongo… a ver si este es el bueno.

On Wednesday I decided I wanted to go to the temple in the morning, because I knew if we tried to go at night we would be too tired.  That plan worked out well because it was still raining hard in the morning.  The Mexico City temple is beautiful and I really enjoyed going through a session there.  I had earphones to listen to the English, but turned them down a lot to hear the Spanish.  Even though I miss a lot, I do love listening to Spanish and I was able to figure out quite a few words.

After changing clothes and having lunch we headed downtown again to see Chapultepec park and castle and the weather was perfect.  The blessings of going to the temple I guess!

Chapultepec Park is a really fun place to go.  It is a 1,600 acre park in downtown Mexico City which includes the castle where Maximillan I and Empress Carlotta once lived, a zoo, an amusement park, many museums, the official residence of the president of Mexico, lakes, and a forest that has been there for centuries.  It’s a place I imagine you could go to again and again and always find new things to do.  Our main goal, though, was to visit the castle.  Here was my first view.

We were still sore from all our climbing and other activities (or maybe it was just me and Mom and Dad were being nice) so we paid for a ride up the hill instead of walking.

The castle was so beautiful and impressive.  Check out this gate.  So awesome!

We walked around the balcony and could look out all over the city.  It was a great view and fun to look down into the park as well.  The balcony itself was pretty too.  I loved the black and white tile.  Here is a little video I took in an attempt to capture all of the view.

We walked around the balcony looking into the beautifully furnished rooms.  Here are some examples.

We looked into one room and I noticed a mirror and thought that was a perfect chance to capture a picture of all three of us, which I think turned out kind of fun.

I hope you’re not tired of pictures yet, because there are a lot more and I’m not even trying to limit them!  I had to pose by the grasshopper fountain.  Chapultepec means grasshopper hill, so they are well represented in the park.  The statues in the background are a tribute to young soldiers that died defending the castle.

Then we went to the next level and this is where my breath was really taken away.  I absolutely loved the courtyard garden here.

It obviously takes a lot of hard work to keep the gardens looking so perfect.

They have an area for receptions up here.  Can you imagine anything more perfect than having a wedding reception in this amazing location, with the gardens just off to the side and the balcony overlooking the whole city?  I can’t!

Also on this level was a hallway that Mom and Dad said they haven’t seen open before.  It was filled with absolutely stunning stained glass windows with pictures of Roman goddesses.

After this Dad went to rest while Mom and I walked around the museum for a little bit, which was interesting but I didn’t get any good pictures.  Then we found Dad in this garden.

We went down the hill and walked around the park a little bit and ate some popcorn by the lake.

After that we took the metro back home for another relaxing night with dinner, a DVD, and packing to get ready for my trip home.  I was excited to be going home to my cute family, but sad to be leaving my mom and dad.  We had so much fun together.  I loved spending time with them and there are so many more things it would have been fun to see and do in Mexico City, but I was thrilled with what we did get to do and would love to go back some day!

I haven’t been anywhere in a while…and though I know I’ve eaten some great meals recently, I’ve neglected to take any photographs.  I’m in the mood to write, though, so what to do?  Dig up an old, yet-unrecorded trip, of course.  Two and a half years ago Chris and I spent a few days in Mexico City and had a wonderful time.  I’ve been a little saddened by the news about Mexico recently, and sometimes wonder if I’d be up for this same trip again, at least right now.  While most of the violence I read about is taking place along the border, I have also read about brazen instances of violence in the resort towns as well as Mexico City.  I wish this were not the case, because I had such a great time, never felt unsafe (at least not too unsafe), and Mexico City and I have unfinished business.

We arrived in Mexico City around 4pm on a Friday, 30 November 2007.  We hired a taxi from the airport (I had done a great deal of research on taxis — we only used Super Sitio or Servitaxis) and began the long, slow drive into the city.  I had read that the traffic in Mexico City was bad, and even with an expectation that it would be bad, I was amazed at just how bad it was.  It took us so long to get to our hotel — the Hotel Camino Real in the Polanco – that we only had time to run in, throw down our stuff, then walk briskly to the National Museum of Anthropology.  It was almost 6 by the time we finally got there.  The posted hours for the museum said that it would be open until 7; however, around 6:30 guards started walking around turning out lights and rounding everyone up.  Unfortunately, this left us with no choice but to run around trying to see as much as we could see in very little time.  I wish we could have spent hours there!  The collection of artifacts is amazing and I’m sure its so much more impressive when you can take the time to read about everything.

Once we were officially kicked out, we walked back to the hotel to freshen up before dinner and stopped to take a look — it was a pretty cool-looking hotel.  The design was quite minimalist and modern.  Here are a few snapshots:

That night, we walked to La Fonda del Recuerdo for dinner.  The walk was somewhat long, but I enjoyed the stroll.  I don’t recall what we ate, but I do recall that we enjoyed ourselves and many tequilas y sangritas.  We both developed quite a taste for the Don Julio Reposado with a sangrita — so tasty.  The restaurant had a very festive atmosphere with jarochos performing traditional music, lots of tables full of happy people, and the odd (to me) roving people trying to sell you flowers and other items.  I’m still not sure what the deal was with the person who came to the table with a bird cage with little tiny birds in it…  After dinner we walked back in the chilly night air — this felt very good after a heavy meal and a few tequilas.  I have read that we should have taken a cab to and from the restaurant, but I enjoyed the walk and never felt unsafe.

The next morning we woke up super early and took a taxi to the bus station where we managed to get on a local bus out to Teotihuacan.  My ability to speak Spanish came in very handy here, although it was still a bit confusing and I was never 100% certain we were doing it right until we actually arrived at our destination about an hour later.  We were the only people on the bus going to Teotihuacan, so that also had me slightly worried that we were on the wrong bus…but, it all worked out.  The strangest thing happened on the way, though.  The sun was barely beginning to rise as we headed down the highway when suddenly the bus driver pulled maybe a foot or two to the side of the road (not out of the road — just barely to the side) and stopped…and got off.  People started looking around to see what was going on but no one seemed to know….all the while cars are just flying around us.  After a few minutes the driver got back on and we continued on our way.  Not really sure about that…this was one point on the trip where my imagination started running a bit wild.  But I guess he just needed to make a pit stop…or something.

When we got to Teotihuacan it was not yet open, so we had to stand around outside the (open) gates (I tried to walk in and was promptly sent back out).  Once it opened we headed in and started exploring — we were practically the only people there for a while.  It was simply beautiful.  The stairs up to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun were a challenge — the steps were tall and narrow — but the view from up top was profound.  The park abounds with interesting visual perspectives.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the day:

After wandering around this amazing ancient archaeological site for a few hours we caught a bus back to the city.  The bus ride back was cool — since we were on a local bus, we made several stops in little towns along the way and I felt like I got a greater sense of what the towns are actually like. 

After lunch we headed into the market and found all kinds of goodies to bring home and give our family members for Christmas…everything from cheesy magnets to lucha libre t-shirts (vamos, Mil Máscaras!) to a beautiful mirror set in tin and more.  Chris bought me a gorgeous hand-carved and painted wooden platter for my birthday.  Since we had learned in Turkey that I absolutely HATE negotiating, we had a system — I identified the goods and Chris worked for the best price.

Next we headed to Chapultepec Park and strolled about for a couple of hours.  The people-watching was great and the park is really beautiful.  I’m a big fan of urban parks and Chapultepec goes down on my list of one of the best.  I managed not to take very many photos for some reason…but here are a few.

That night I asked our hotel for a dinner recommendation and they sent us to La Hacienda de los Morales.  In retrospect, I’m a little disappointed in our dinner experience that night.  The building was beautiful but the atmosphere was a bit too fancy and it was not cheap.  I don’t mind paying more for food if it blows me away, but the food was just fine.  I wish we had found a local gem.  I would have preferred something a little more adventurous, more fun.  As this was our last dinner in Mexico City, I’m left feeling a bit unsatisfied.  This is the first of my unfinished business with Mexico City.

The next day, Sunday, we again woke up early and headed to the Zócalo  — a day I which I had been anticipating all weekend.  I could not wait to stroll the massive plaza and see the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Templo Mayor, and especially the National Palace to see the Diego Rivera murals.  When we arrived at the Zócalo, this is what we saw:

Christmas had arrived…as had a massive ice skating rink filling the entire plaza, making it virtually impossible for me to get any perspective on the vastness of the square!  Sure, it was fun watching kids and grown-ups alike skate around and the decorations were very festive, but Chris had been telling me how cool the plaza is, how many different things I might see…and instead all I could see through the bleachers set up all around was an ice skating rink, and forget about getting a good perspective on the cathedral or the palace.  Oh well — it’s still beautiful and I’m thrilled to be here, and as it was a Sunday morning it was cool watching people heading in for mass.  I did manage to get a few shots that turned out okay:

Our final stop for the day before we had to begin our return journey to the airport was to be the Palacio Nacional and the murals.  Although we had confirmed (through various written publications…) it would be open, when I approached the guard to go inside the told me it was closed today — no one could go in.  I fruitlessly tried to explain how I was flying home later that day and how I had come specifically on this day to see the murals — I’m not sure what I thought would happen, as if he’d say, oh, okay, well come on in for a special tour…  Needless to say, we did not get to go inside.  So, I had learned a few important lessons on this trip.  The first lesson is that posted hours in Mexico City are more like guidelines (I’m also thinking back to the Anthropology Museum).  The second lesson is that if it’s really important to see something, don’t save it for the very end of the trip!

Our quick trip to Mexico City was wonderful, but I know it was just a taste of what the city has to offer.  As I mentioned above, we have some unfinished business.  I want more time at the museum.  I want to see the Zócalo on a regular day.  I want to find better dinner spots.  And I want to see the murals!  Even with this unfinished business, though, I was instantly attracted to the sights, the colors, the sounds, the general festive and animated feeling I noticed everywhere we went.  Plus, it’s always a blast for me to travel somewhere where I can speak the language.  I know I’ll be back.

Antes de contar que hice ayer, explicare por que lo deje de hace durante más de 20 años.

Cuando era un escuincle vivia en casa de mi abuelito  -QPD-  muy cerca Reforma, en la zona que ahora se ha llenado de restaurantes y vida anteriormente era una zona tranquila sin tanto escandalo.  La casa fue diseñada por el mismo pues siempre tuvo sus tintes de arquitecto yel la hizo de acuerdo a las necesidades de la familia en ese momento.

Lo que se ve en la fachada es lo siguiente:

Una reja dorada congruesos  tubos cilindricos que estan rematados con un corte transversal ( para que se entienda son como popotes de boing ), detras de ella una gran rampa descendente que dirige a la puerta del garage y de lado izquierdo unas escaleras que van a la entrada principal , que tiene a un costado la ventana de la oficina principal.

De lado derecho una ventana enorme que era la sala, y tenia una agradable vista a la calle. En el piso de arriba un balcon largo que pertenece a dos recamaras y más arriba un piso que no se ve, una terraza donde estaba el salon de juegos, una recamara más y otra terraza interior.

Asi se ve la casa donde yo jugaba por las tardes cuando era niño, cuando me regalaron la bici salia todos los dias a andar en ella por las calles  alrededor de la casa. Entre semana no era muy facil que me bajara de la banqueta pues pasaban muchos carros pero el fin de semana era otra historia; podia hacerlo y pedaleaba muy rapido!

Un día, me fui a al esquina contraria con mi bici roja, como ya tenia practica ya brincaba cosas y me daba vueltas como trompo pense en brincar la rampa y meterme como volido en el garage ( que era bastante amplio como para dar vueltas adentro, caben 6 autos  y sobraba espacio).

Asi que sali  con alguien de mi familia ( no recuerdo quien ) y abrimos la puerta y la reja, y nos fuimos a la esquina para que hiciera yo mi acto circense. Estuve dando unas vueltas y cuando decidi convertirme en Meteoro en bicicleta comenze a pedalear como loco hacia la casa, me acuerdo qyue iba muy rapido, solo escuchaba el ruido de la cadena dar vuletas como loca, llegue a la entrada di la vuelta, pase la rampa de entrada llegue a la banqueta y la bici brinco por la rampa de entrada, salte por ella un par de metros y cai muy cerca de la puerta.

Pequeño problema: La puerta estaba cerrada!  Un tio mio noto que estaba abierta y no vio movimiento de carros asi que decidio cerrarla.  Yo me acuerdo de ver el manubrio cerca de la puerta de del porrazo que se escucho cuando la bici y yo pegamos en ella, como era una puerta metalica con un gran espacio detras de ella, cualquier golpe retumbaba como caño y se sentia por la casa.

Fue el caso y la casa sintio un zapotazo mio y de la bici.  La verdad no recuerdo mucho despues del vuelo que vi rumbo a la puerta, pero si sali lastimado; no me rompi nada pero si quede bastante maltratado.

De ahi ya no me dieron ganas de subirme a la bici, tenia como 7 u 8 años y decidi dedicarme a otras cosas.

Y asi paso el tiempo hata el día de ayer que nuevamente me subi en una para dar unas vuletas en Chapultepec, gracia a a que mi novia me llevo.

Pedimos unas bicis en una de las cicloestaciones de Reforma, solo se necesitan 2 ID’s, firmar un papel, que le tomen una foto y ya esta!

Bici, casco y cadena por 3 horas.

Estuve haciedo malabares para recobrar el equilibrio en una de las banquetas de Reforma, entra estatuas de animales en peligro se extinción y  mucha gente.

Nota: Mucha de la gente que va de paseo tiene tendencias autodestructivas y tienden a ponerse en la ruta de la bici, no importando si quien la lleva lo haga de manera correcta o este batallando para no caerse; asi que no es muy buena idea pasear entre la gente, principalmente cuando hay muchos niños, por que los papas estan a muchos metros y los chamacos se sienten de boligoma.

De ahi fuimos a la entrada del bosque y empezamos a dar vueltas en los andadores que son bastante amplios ya agradables, el piso esta adoquinado y no tiene hoyos ni baches o cosas que lo hagan ser incomodo o peligroso.

La verdad me senti contento de hacerlo y bastaron algunos minutos para que pudiera andar sin mayor problema salvo el inicio, pues es ahi donde batalle un poco, y las subidas que también me costaron trabajo al iniciar ahi.

Los andadores son muy agradables, se ven pasar muchos pajaros y ardillas en el recorrido y los arboles que  rodean los costados  le dan un ambiente muy agradable:

El acceso del monumento a los Niños Heroes deja ver el trazo y destino original del paseo de la Emperatriz, hoy Paseo de la Reforma, que era el Castillo de Chapultepec. Es en verdad una de las avenidas más bonitas del mundo:

Los niños, el castillo y el avion

Honestamente el famoso cicloton no me hace 2 gramos de gracia por que provoca mucho trafico los domingos y lo que puediera ser el unico día de tranquilidad en esta ciudad se vuelve caos para los que llegamos a circular por las areas cerradas. Creo que se debe de plantear esto para no afectar a los demás, felices andan los que van en bici, fregados los que sufrimos trafico en domingo.

Sin embargo el proyecto de las cicloestaciones me parece bueno, salvo la ubicación que le quita estetica a la avenida, pudiendo poner las estaciones       ( que son como un puesto de periodicos ) dentro de una de las glorietas de las banquetas no lo hicieron asi y las colocaron al borde de la banqueta. Ahora si ustedes toman una foto panoramica de Reforma saldra la estación que no tiene nada de chiste.

Dense una vuelta en bici por una de las avenidas más bonitas, llenas de cultura e historias: Paseo de la Reforma.

PD. Y la casa?

Hace años que no entro a ella, se vendio desde hace muchisimo tiempo y la compro una marca de autos para convertirla en oficinas, una vez entre y fue super raro ver espacios que recuerdo como familiares llenos de papeles  computadoras y gente desconocida.

Hay un estado de melancolía que siempre le conviene al cuerpo.

Es el reflejo de una duda, y la duda es el alimento de la vida; si no se duda no se crea; de la arrogancia no salen chispas sino piedras, rendodas, rotundas. Yo prefiero las ideas picudas a las ideas redondas. Pero la melancolía no es el único alimento creativo; la melancolía no es lo opuesto al optimismo; al contrario.

Reivindico el optimismo para este momento de la vida; he conocido gente que pasó tristeza y dolor, como el personaje de Hemingway, y nunca estuve triste una mañana. Pasarán estos tiempos de duda e incertidumbre y vendrán otros mejores; y digo, con razón, que también se cantó en los tiempos oscuros. ¿Optimismo? Y por qué no.

Hay quienes dicen algo que también digo: al despertar, comprueba que funcionan tus manos, tus pies, tus ojos, tu cerebro. Y si estás vivo, ya tienes un motivo para la alegría, para disfrutarla y para compartirla. Así que ánimo, vamos a cambiar esa cara.

¿Tres tiempos o cuatro? Ese último talvez es el que te espera para tener la forma…

Primer tiempo

Vislumbrarte en aquella ocasión. Una noche tibia sin luna alguna.

En el tercer piso de aquél edificio en donde resguardaba una parte de mi tiempo tal cual diario personal.

Se tornó de colores fluorecentes, en donde las copas y tu mirada tornaron en un mareo y un sueño mi mente.

Y fue desde ese momento que, esa mezcla de aromas, ambiente, miradas, palabras, suspiros, respiros y tu voz; hicieron de ti un anhelo y abrieron una ventana en el corazón.

Segundo tiempo

Tal vez fue el miedo, tal vez tu pasado. Una herida no cerrada, compliada talvez.

Tal vez es mi presencia, mi pasado incierto, borroso, dudoso para ti, un momento de preguntas sin respuestas, tal vez.

Pero te alejaste, y dejaste, a un corazón abierto como tal ventana en tiempos de lluvia donde en la tormenta se inunda y requiere de ti para cerrar y sentirse cálido, seguro.

Pero faltaste, te fuiste y solamente el tiempo pasó a un espacio, hueco, vacío de sentires y de quereres.

Pero te espere, tanto como se pudo, tanto como el corazón siguió latiendo.

Pero te fuiste y la ausencia de tu ser es como ese vacío en el centro del volcán.

Tercer tiempo

Regresaste y volvio el sentir, la alegría y los sueños, pero así como llegaste te fuiste de nuevo y ahora, en este tercer tiempo es cuando el corazón se da cuenta que no hay quien lo mande, quien le ordene, quien le diga por qué te debe amar o por qué no; simplemente se enamoró de ti.

Y lo sigue estando aún apesar de tu ausencia, de tu partida.

Y aunque ya no estas, siempre estarás aquí, esperando que haya un cuarto tiempo, ¿será?

Solamente tú sabes que el cuarto tiempo depende de ti y sólo tú sabes que esto es para ti…

Vi kom altsaa trotte, men glade frem til Mexico kl fem om morgenen. Hostellrommet vaart var imidlertid ikke klar foer kl fire paa ettermiddagen, saa vi ble hoeflig bedt om aa  ta oss en tur rundt i Mexico by. Hostelleieren er en meget hyggelig mann, og ga oss en rekke tips og gode raad om hvor vi kunne dra i forhold til vaakenhetsgraden. Resultatet var at vi tok en tur til Chapultepec park, et gigantisk anlegg midt i byen, der det blant annet er et slott paa en hoeyde, som naa inneholder et nasjonalhistorisk museum.

Men foerst spiste vi frokost. Solveig introduserte Aasmund for noen av de lokale smakene: ferskpresset appelsinjuice, cafe con leche, huevos a la mexicana (eggeroere med chili, tomat og loek sammen med bonnestuing) og huevos rancheros (to speilegg paa maistortilla med masse tomatsaus). Nam! En god start paa dagen!

Vi tuslet saa til parken og gikk opp til slottet. Mexikansk historie=spennende. Revolusjoner, intervensjoner, massedrap paa indianere, klassekamp, tap av territorie (bl.a. Texas, California og New Mexico til USA), kamp mot Napoleon, som innsatte den tyske militaere Maximilian I som konge over landet, etc.

Det var ogsaa mange av de saakalte murales, meksikanske veggmalerier med historiske motiver som saerlig ble malt av venstreorienterte kunstnere i forste halvdel av det tyvende aarhundrede. Veldig flotte.

Vi tuslet deretter rundt i parken og slo ihjel tid. Endte opp i byens dyrepark, hvor det var fullt av dyr og skoleklasser paa tur. Flott anlegg! Aasmund klarte aa lure Solveig til aa spise en is.
