A few more people came out of the store during our trek across the lot, but they all avoided us, as

A few more people came out of the store during our trek across the lot, but they all avoided us, as if our story had become legend: The three-armed race that has developed a taste for human chicken soup! Avoid them at all costs, because you’re too polite to turn down their outrageous requests!

We also weren’t pestered inside the store, which was far more crowded than I would have anticipated. The aisles were barely wide enough for a single cart, more like an independent hardware store than a supermarket. It did, incidentally, have a hardware section, which was small and even more densely packed, with sliding shelves in front of other shelves, as well as racks suspended from the ceiling with pincers mounted on long poles so you could grab things from them. Elsewhere, lawn games shared shelves with used books and painted rocks that identified themselves as souvenirs from Landerville.

Shopping was a slow affair. We tended to get in the way of each other, and there were a number of close calls where unwatched ribbon slack nearly led to some kind of mishap. It only did once, in the produce section. Watermelons had been impressively, if unwisely, stacked into a three-layer pyramid on a central display table. In his puppylike exuberance to meet my request of bananas, which hung from hooks just past the table, Nathan managed to get the ribbon wedged underneath the second melon layer. Whether the ribbon had help from either me or Carla I shall explicitly refuse to say.

Nathan had to reach high enough for the bananas that the ribbon dislodged the fruit that was laying on top of it. That watermelon crashed to the floor and broke open, revealing a fairly satisfying splatter of pink guts.

It had been a weight-bearing watermelon.

Only four watermelons total were destroyed by the collapse; two more fell but were cushioned by their predecessors’ flesh. I nevertheless consider it the Victoria Falls of watermelonfalls, and will until I see a greater one.

I suggested that we might want to get out of the aisle before our mess was discovered, but to no purpose. A plump, pimply teenaged boy was already hauling his seemingly undersized string mop and bucket to the scene.

“I told Mr. Watkins that this would happen,” he grumbled. “I told him that watermelon would fall, and it would take that one, that one, that one, that one, and that one with it. But did he listen?”

“I apologize, sir,” Nathan offered. “It was carelessness…”

“Don’t be sorry,” the boy bellowed, shifting his tone to exuberance. “We had a bet. You just won me twenty bucks.” He began attacking the mess with tremendous vigor, although the primary effect was that he managed to break the shells into slightly smaller pieces.

We soon worked out a system. At least I did. Basically, I behaved as if I were a chariot and Nathan were the horse, aiming him by pulling the ribbon the direction that I wanted him to go and slowing him down with brute force. I don’t know how he felt about the arrangement, or if he even realized, but it worked. The only incidents of the rest of the shopping trip were low-speed collisions between cart and shelves, caused more by the narrowness of the aisles and the ricketiness of the cart than any recklessness on Nathan’s part.

Nathan paid for the groceries with a hundred-dollar bill and led us across the parking lot. He seemed was obviously impatient with the pace that Carla and I set, but he worked off his extra energy by zigzagging, rather than pulling. Getting into Nathan’s ship was therefore no particular trial.

*****

Not much to say about this that I didn’t cover yesterday, except that the store is actually based on my local grocery store, which has, among other things, a used book section.

The first twenty-two cards of a traditional tarot deck are called the Major Arcana. Beyond the scop

The first twenty-two cards of a traditional tarot deck are called the Major Arcana. Beyond the scope of tarot being a deck of playing cards, each card or key of the Major Arcana is said to represent an archetype, phase or stage of growth in the human psyche along the road of evolution. The seventh card of tarot’s Major Arcana is the Chariot. From the very beginning of encountering this card in study, my first point of personal reference took me back to the Greek god whose golden form usurped the predominately female employing oracular temples of ancient North African and Mediterranean centers before the Common Era (BCE) (1).

© 2009, All Rights Reserved.

The first time I became aware of the word “chariot” was during my elementary school years. By some now forgotten fate, I had managed to come across a fairly thick book on Greek mythology. I can recall my little fingers holding down its pages as my big eyes took in the image of their god of the sun, prophecy and man games, Apollo. In the Greek tales Apollo dutifully drove his chariot of the sun from east to west across the sky. (2) He is noted as being the son of Zeus and a maiden by the name of Leto. In the Greek myths, Artemis the eternal virgin huntress is his twin sister.

Traditionally, the Chariot card shows an often armored figure of presumed high status directing a chariot drawn by two beasts. Some occult schools of thought attribute this card to the astrological sign Cancer. This may seem in contradiction to the role of Apollo, but it is important to note that Apollo was not originally the sun god. In earlier Greek myths Helios (a separate deity) was the sun god.

Two words attached to the meaning of the Chariot are victory and triumph. Upon first glance of viewing this card, thoughts of victory and triumph may be overlooked because in most depictions the charioteer is featured journeying presumably alone. In the scene nothing gives way to the possibility of any ensuing celebration however the extent of the charioteer’s ornate garb leans toward a tone of reverence and parade.

If we view this card in its noted order post number six, the Lovers, perhaps this step revels the questioner after tasting the joy of some union (be it physical, spiritual and/or material, i.e. Lovers) beginning to survey, test out and beef up his or her position. Maybe at this stage there is a need to search out and secure a public mask that is personally and socially more fulfilling? I suppose a better approach to interpreting this card is to ask a few simple questions like: Who is the person under the armor? Where has s/he come from? Where is s/he going? Why?

These few questions may hold the key to discovering this cards essence beyond textbook descriptions because in the end, the journey of the Chariot is unique to each person and is the solid foundation on which the questioner’s future success or failure is founded.

This beautiful piece, seem to be discovered into a tomb, together with another piece, which represent two miniaturistic carts (war chariots): one with two wheels and other with three.

In the center of the chariot with two wheels, it is a anthropomorphic male statue, with a bird-head. On this bird, up, it’s an incision which represent two symbol of swastika (in left is a right-facing swastika and in the right place is a left-facing swastika).

Between them are two spirals, and in the front of them, in opposite side, in vertical direction, are two little circles.

Another left-facing swastika it’s at the base of abdomen.

Some historians think that this piece represent Hyperborean Apollo, which it’s the eternal Sun. These presumptions start because of the old legend which tell us that Apollo travel to Hyperborea into a chariot pulled by swans (you can observe that at the war chariot with three wheels).

Serbian historian Trbuhovic think that this miniaturistic chariot it’s used for practicing at a uranian and solar ritual, or for invocation of rain, because the noisiness from the chariot it’s like the noise of thunder.

Other hypothesis inform us that this war-chariot it could represent a vehicle for transportation to the otherworld, from the Sky. As examples you can see the chariot of Thor, drawn by two goats “Toothgnasher” and “Toothgrinder” or the chariot of Perun, which become Saint Elias at Christians.

The faces of birds could represent the soul of the deceased.

Update as of 29 October 2009 General Octavius tugged at the stirrups and guided his chariot out onto

Update as of 29 October 2009

General Octavius tugged at the stirrups and guided his chariot out onto the plains. The marauding mob was uncontrollable and the foot soldiers could not keep them at bay. The sight of the chariot quietened the crowd and though they were still, you could still see seething anger in most of the sweat and blood stained faces. But General Octavius was not one to relent so easily. He rode through the fields and as the solid wood wheels rolled over the parched dry land, it bumped up over a loose stone, and at times slowed over loose sand. The initial surprise of seeing a noble riding amidst the plebeians led to the parting away of the crowds to let the General pass through. Everyone just looked up at him, most of them with remorse. The General completed one length of the field before turning back; but was stunned at the sight of scores of people. To quell the crowds, he had a trick up his sleeve – instead of confronting them he decided to ride away. Initially the horses cantered and then started galloping. As the chariot gained speed, it also lost some of its stability, at times swerving on one wheel. The crowds were bemused and they followed the dusty trail and ran along. The General continued with this till he reached an elevation from where he could survey the crowds behind. Just when he thought he had tired them enough, and instilled fear so that they would recoil, he took another surprising twist. He let out the battering rams (long blades that stick out of the solid wooden wheel slats – remember that this was an era when spoked wheels had not yet been invented). And the General did a volte-face, turning the chariot around and heading straight into the crowds. The bystanders could not even react before they were spliced, diced and decimated by the horses, the General, his chariot and the battering rams. It was total mayhem and the General’s snarling teeth gnashed as the chariot tumbled over bodies, limbs, and anything else in its path. This ended quicker than anticipated and the General then turned to look at the bloody battlefield. Some greviously injured folks tried to pick themselves up and flee, but were slashed down by the sword wielding foot soldiers. The General then addressed his men – “There will be no disgruntled voice in my Kingdom”, he blared out. “Aye” chorused the soldiers who raised their swords in salute and marched behind the General.

October was the month of another General at D Street. The plebeian D Street Boyz had made enough noise and mayhem pulling the SENSEX one way, then another – from 17173 at month-beginning to a heady 17235 just before Diwali, before losing steam and dipping to the 16052 level of today. And if you trace the path of the SENSEX, you will see that General Octavius relived his heady past of centuries ago by riding his chariot on D Street Today. The path he took is trailed by the SENSEX – and the marauding mob could perhaps have been the D Boyz. I just hope that the unrest at D Street which saw the SENSEX plunge 757 points in the last 4 days is quelled with the General’s action.

(For people who like to visualize the battle, here is the map of the field)

With the Adventure Race World Championships starting this week in Portugal, I’m beginning to miss racing a little. Team Nike Beaver Creek, consisting of Mike Kloser, Monique Merrill, Chris Forne and Gordon Walker, are heading to Europe this week to hopefully regain our World Champions title. After a great race last fall in Brazil, Team Orion Health pulled out the win just ahead of Nike which has left my teammates yearning for the win this year. If I receive any updates throughout the race, I will try to get them posted as soon as possible.

Since I will not be competing this year, I’m just hoping to continue to get out for some fun runs and rides. This pregnancy has been much harder than the first which continues to have me on up and down swings of training. I’ve been working hard at listening to my body and not overdoing it. This past week, that meant much time at work and on the couch while my abdomen and uterus were cramping. Now that the uncomfortable cramping has subsided (at least for now), I’ve been able to get out the last few days. It was really nice yesterday to have Ian tow Juniper in the Chariot so that we could get out as a family. This morning Joy and I enjoyed just under seven miles of running with the kiddos at an eight and half minute per mile pace. Not outrageously fast but not bad for pushing the kids on some hills.

Special Request is a paen to some of Britain’s favourite serial killers and a rock solid old school dancehall track to boot. When it came out there were rumours that this was a Chris Morris side project. There was also a story that Carlton Killawatt Valley was an unemployed plumber from Wolverhampton (or something like that). Either way they’re on to a winner.

I see this reading as sort of a story. The Chariot shows how far I have come so far, and also reminds me that I am on a loooong path. It came up for me just a few days ago to show something similar. The four of Chalices is how I feel right now; I dream of something better – better finances, better skills – but dreaming won’t get me there without action. She has that wonderful big cup, and all she can do is dream of the next, better one. Better for me to be the Queen of Cups. See how she takes advantage of what she has in front of her instead of wishing for more. She looks deeply into her cups and works her magic as well as she is able to with what is right in front of her. Smart Queen.

Today I am using my Fey Tarot, which although it is pretty new to me is already a lot of fun. I don’t generally go for the cartoony cards, so this is a nice diversion for me and hopefully for you as well! Today’s draw was the eight of Chalices, The Chariot, and the two of Pentacles. Click on the cards for a full sized scan.

The eight of Chalices in this deck seems to really specifically point to walking away from something that you may once have been attached to, but which you realize is not really for you. It isn’t about giving up or escaping, but about making the right and reasonable decision to step back. The most recent decision that I have made to that affect has been to try to do more with less. For example, yesterday I was mourning the fact that yet another pretty pair of socks had worn through the toes because they are so thin. Socks are either pretty but short lived or sturdy but plain, it seems. I wanted a new set, but didn’t really need them, especially since they don’t last long. That’s when I realized that I can crochet or knit my own colorful socks from now on. They will probably be more sturdy, and less expensive, too. Plus they will have actual meaning for me.

The Chariot reminds me that this is not just a “minors” decision but a grand one that will be a constant journey for me. I will never be done walking this path for as long as I choose to stick to it. It is a good reminder to have. The fey on the two of Pentacles are reminding me that it is possible to be happy with what is in front of you. I’ve already turned myself away from several small purchases by keeping this kind of thinking in mind.

“good product” 2008-09-22
By Mom of Pie (Concord, NC United States)
It has been great for my (then) 6 month old & it is still great, though I think she soon won’t need it. It’s really good for holding them in a reclined position, like a car seat does, which is safer on their little necks, I think. & it seems comfy, she sleeps in it. My daughter is 10 months old now & we still use it but she is small at just over 15 pounds. I think we can go with out it soon. However, we couldn’t have put her in the carrier with out it before. I’m glad we bought it and we’ve gotten quite a bit of use out of it. It your baby is big or physically advanced, it may be more economical to just wait to put the baby in the carrier b/c I think most babies would grow out of very quickly.

I got this spread layout from the forums of Aeclectic Tarot.

This is how the cards are positioned:
2/4………7
…..1/8…..
6………3/5

Legends:
1 – Querent (Me)
2/3 – Obstacles
4/5 – What needs to be resolved.
6/7 – Where I’m going.
8 – Possible Result

My Interpretation:
1 – In the Two of Swords, it shows I’m pretending that everything is fine. I’m blinded by my current situation. The card looks like it has two people in it, but they’re the same one. They are arguing. The other one doesn’t want to do anything and just relax. The other one wants to find work. I keep telling myself that I don’t need a job right now because I’m going for a vacation, but I need to open my eyes to the truth (and facts) being (A) My money is depleting, (B) My country is dealing and recovering from an awful disaster and its not a good time to visit, (C) I desire prosperity and what I’m doing right now is not helping.

2 & 3 – The Three of Swords symbolizes my feelings of being betrayed. I was recently released from my contract, which was based from an unfair decision. And this has put so much weight on my ego. I’m doing my best to get over it and move on. Maybe this is what the Chariot is telling me. I need to focus on what is at hand.

4 & 5 – The Ten of Swords is showing a person who is hiding because of fear. This is what I need to overcome so I don’t end up being trapped with financial misery. I need to face the music and find a new and better job… something that empowers job satisfaction and supportive environment. I see the Five of Swords as an environment of deceit, trickery and unfairness. This card reminds me of my last job and that is what I need to let go.

6 & 7 – This is where I’m heading. I need to make a bold move like the Knight of Swords. I need to bring back my mojo! The Five of Wands shows a little competition in finding the perfect job. In this card, I see other people are seeking for this job too so I need to bring my A game. It may also mean that I need to fight my own inner demons in order to progress and develop.

8 – The World card looks like a good omen. It shows completion and a positive sign that I will find what I am looking for.

Other things I’ve noticed in my spread is the ridiculous number of swords. Which might mean a very active mental block. Maybe this is what’s needed to be focused on. I need to breakthrough the negative thinking.

There is also a missing suit: the pentacles (element of earth which symbolizes money, health and stability). This is what I’m after in my current situation and right now, it needs great attention.

I appreciate any ideas and suggestions on my reading. Thanks!
