When Disney’s A Christmas Carol came out a few weeks ago I went to see it and I must say that it was a great family film. Jim Carrey’s acting was phenomenal and so was the visual effects. The 3D was amazing! All of the graphics were so crisp and clear it almost felt and looked as if you were right there in the scene with the characters. When Scrooge was flying through the air with the ghost of Christmas Past, I could almost feel like I was flying through the streets with them. The visuals effects were that amazing!

Did I mention Jim Carrey? Jim Carrey was acting at his finest by far. He played the role of multiple actors as well as the lead role of Scrooge, which he did hauntingly well. Just the sight of Scrooge would make you cringe when you saw Scrooge walk down the street. Jim Carrey definitely deserves an award for his performance in this animated classic adaptation of Charles Dickens’ tale.

Positive Partner of Support In this chapter, Mr. Swindoll discusses five qualities of a great mom gl

Positive Partner of Support

In this chapter, Mr. Swindoll discusses five qualities of a great mom gleaned from 2 Timothy 1:4-7.

Transparent Tenderness

Authentic Spirituality

Inner Confidence

Unselfish Love

Self-Control

Mr. Swindoll uses Proverbs 24:3-4 to describe the rock-solid home.

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. (emphasis added by Mr. Swindoll)

Mr. Swindoll defines the emphasised words above as follows,

“Wisdom is the ability to see with discernment – to view life through God’s eyes. Understanding is the skill of responding with insight – reading between the lines. Knowledge is learning with perception – having a teachable spirit and a willingness to learn … even from our children.

A Mother’s Contributions

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus, To Timothy, my dear son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 4-7

Transparent Tenderness

In verse 4, Paul mentions Timothy’s tears. Mr. Swindoll states,

Paul remembered Timothy’s tenderness, a trait likely passed down from his mother.

Tenderness is defined as, “a tendency to express warm and affectionate feeling.” This is definitely a trait we typically tend to learn from our mothers and not our fathers. Who do children typically run to when they are hurt? Who do they want to comfort them when they are sick? I admire those father’s who are able to demonstrate this characteristics as well. I believe that Jesus would have been a man with this quality. We know that he was compassionate (Matthew 14:14)

It is important that our children have a tender place to run to, especially when they have made a mistake. We do not have to condone what they have done, but we do need to hear them out, give them a hug, and try and point them in the right direction. I think the hardest time to parent is when they no longer run to a parent and seek shelter. If this quality is instilled in them, we can hope they will return to it, no matter how old they are. We can also hope it is something they will demonstrate to their children.

Authentic Spirituality

Paul talks about Timothy’s faith in verse 5 and says it was handed down from his grandmother to his mother. It is clear that this faith was handed down from mother to mother to son, which shows that men and women, BOTH, should have this quality. This is also talked about in Acts 16. Many believe that his father was an unbeliever by implication of the discussion about the mother in these two verses. This should give hope to many who are the only Christian parent to their child.

Timothy’s faith is described as honest, rich, and handed down in the NIV. The Amplified version is full of adjectives,

I am calling up memories of your sincere and unqualified faith (the [b]leaning of your entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), [a faith] that first lived permanently in [the heart of] your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am [fully] persuaded, [dwells] in you also.

The word translated ’sincere’ comes from the Greek term, anhupocritos, basically it means authentic. Authentic is defined as: “quality of being genuine or not corrupted from the original.” To me this also says that it wasn’t just something he did because his grandmother and mother did it. It was genuine, real.

If his grandmother and mother did not have their own authentic faith, do you really think that Timothy would have followed them? You can not just say it, you have to live it, you have to show it.

Inner Confidence

Mr. Swindoll states,

One reason Timothy stayed true to the Scriptures and stood strong in his ministry was that he had learned inner confidence from his mother. Moms, do you know that God wants to use you to build healthy self-esteem in your child?

Verses 7 tells us that God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. What are those? Let’s see. I think the Amplified version defines these well,

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

Commentators define the word translated as power as,

The power to overcome all obstacles and to face all dangers. It is closely linked with the sense of παρρησία boldness.

It seems to me, if our children today had more of these qualities, they would not give into peer pressure, look to hit singers, actors, and sports stars as their role models, and worry about wearing the latest trends pushed on them by advertisements. They would have the power to overcome these things. They would also find love at home instead of giving their bodies away in an attempt to find it elsewhere. They would be able to have more self-control over their own bodies and their actions. Unfortunately, many moms (and some dads) actually feed these things to their kids. It really is a mom thing though, dads do not typically tend to give in to or push these things on their kids. Well, unless you are talking about participation in a sport, THEN the dads are out in full force. It’s important for us as parents to have our own inner confidence, knowing who we are and who are children are. We can not pass down something that we do not already possess.

Mr. Swindoll asks,

Based on our study so far, how can you help your children find the strength they need to enjoy life?

That seems like a good place to take a break. To be continued …

M Blanket was one of the earliest BC emo bands. Sometimes more punk, sometimes some ska thrown in (i know this doesn’t sound to their advantage, but I assure you, you will fall in love with them).I’m not sure why they always labeled their albums as just M Blanket, but in a live set I once heard them say “We’re Morphine Blanket”.

They formed in 1992, and had a four song demo. Their early material was more chaotic. They appeared on a few compilations and put out their first 7″ on Spinout 360 Records. I heard this was a split with Slinky, but after seeing the artwork, I don’t think it was. Someone could clarify this for me? Did this split exist? They then hooked up with Slow to Burn Records, BC’s leading emo label at the time. The first of these collaborations is the “Seen it Coming” 7″. The last of these, which is also their final ep, and my favorite release of theirs, “Safety”. The band’s last output was released on “Attending the Supreme” compilation in 1995. They changed drummers and became Ache Hour Credo (which would itself change drummers and become Daddy’s Hands).

“LOVE IS DEEP” by NASA Tom

5) Peso dell’oggetto (LA GRAVITA‘!!!!!!!!)

E’ solo teoria… La pratica spesso ci dice il contrario… Caspita…Sti’ vermi…

Happy WormSinking Hunting!

Seeing as it’s Thanksgiving, I find it more than appropriate to express my gratitude for so many things in life. My friends and family… honestly I couldn’t live without them or their inappropriate senses of humor. You know who you are. These “saying thanks” things can get a little overwhelming if you think about it. We’re so blessed and there are so many things you should mention. Sort of like an Oscar speech, if you forget one person… they’ll never let you live it down. So… here are a few things I’m thankful for:

1. My mom always losing her keys, her credit card, her mind… and allowing me to mock her.

2. My sisters varying degrees of laughter. You never know what you’re going to get.

3. My Dad’s random and off the wall comments sometimes referring to turkey s**t.

4. All of my friends, their floor dancing, chats over wine, unwavering support, and all the hysterics that go with it.

5. Charles. I’m just thankful for my dog. He’s a jerk and he can be a pain in the butt, but I heart him and his trash eating ways.

6. Chapstick… you never once have let me down.

7. My iPhone. I am truly naked without it, as in can’t function.

8. Spandex, and it’s insertion into many styles of pants. Thanksgiving pants can now be fashionable.

9. My electric bug killing raquet.

10. Everything that I’ve forgotten and will remember tomorrow. Yeah, I’m thankful for that too.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Hope you ate yourself into a coma and took a nap. Then watched some football… essentially living the American dream.

I recently came across the online genealogy tool, Geni.com and I’m hooked.

Geni.com let’s you create a private online tree (you must be a member of Geni.com and have been invited – the default is that you be a family member – to view a given tree). You can manually enter your tree or start it by uploading a GEDCOM file.

Geni’s features foster family connectedness – there is a discussion forum, internal e-mail, special event reminders, an address book, and places to post photos and video. One feature I find quite interesting is Statistics which allows you to see, for example, how long your relatives have lived on average, where most were born, etc.

Geni is also interactive so there can be organic sharing of information.

Anyway, larger than the fun of its individual features is the potential that Geni.com represents for Grenadian genealogical research. Since Geni automatically shows you potential duplicate individuals in other trees, allows you to search its databases for potential matches and lets you link (with their agreement) to related trees, it presents the potential of mapping the whole island of Grenada.

As I dig further in my research, I become more and more certain that almost all Grenadians are somehow related. Geni.com could allow us to not only quickly fill in the blanks in our own trees but map Grenada.

So far, some Grenadian families are taking advantage of Geni. I’ve found trees that contain the following names so far:

BUCKMIRE

BAIN

BULLEN

CHARLES

FERGUSON

GLEAN

HOSTEN

HUGHES

NECKLES

What a bummer, I sat through the wholelive telecast of the singapore idol show hoping to see an elimination. But it was a let down – in a stupendously stupid move – the show producers had decided not to eliminate anyone.

My question is – Then what is their freaking point of today’s show which is supposed to be a competition where the idol with the least vote gets kicked out. What a waste of my precious time sitting throught the whole shit only to be let by an anti climax. It may well be a performace show for Aids awareness day and the idols were the guys who get to be screwed and totally used for it.

They washed cars and did alot of other social-services that the producers decided that they should do to ensure their return the following week. What are theygonna do next – clean toilets awareness day? They gonna get the idols and arm them with toilet brushes while belting out their favourite music?

I just don’t get it – it was such a waste of my time. TCS has not given any explanation for their stupid action. My only guess is that they are trying to prolong the idol fever to up their viewership ratings, generate more advertisement income, make people spend more money on smses. Or the whole shit could be a ploy to save Charles “Boring” Wong. It’s anybody’s guess.

It’s baffling, does not do justice to the thousands of voters who paid good money to see some results, nor for the viewers who spent their prime hours of the evening to see a show but only to be disappointed by an anti climax. Most of all it does not do justice to todays winners. What if today’s loser manages to catch up next week and today’s winner gets kicked out next week? Its not fair. Just when you were reaching the finishing line they shifted the goal posts. A big thumbs down for TCS and the Idol producers. It simply does not do any justice

The owners of the five-screen Charles Theatre would keep the Senator a movie theater… and potentially add a smaller auditorium.

“When you have another screen, you have more flexibility,” Kathleen Cusack said. “If you have a second screen and you have a movie that isn’t making a lot of money, you can move it there and put something else on the main screen.”

If the Cusacks add a 120-seat theater to the Senator, the main auditorium would shrink from 940 seats to 760. Cusack said the smaller theater could be used as an arts education area.

It was our understanding that the interior spaces, including The Senator auditorium, were now under the ‘protection’ of Baltimore City’s Commisson for Historical & Architectural Preservation (CHAP) Landmark and Special Designation Lists.

So, we have to wonder how could the BDC reconcile James “Buzz” Cusack’s plan with CHAP’s intent to protect the interior beyond “normal maintenance”?

For that matter, given Mr. Cusack himself is a CHAP member, why would he even suggest such a move?

From a historical standpoint (one which we share), subdividing the auditorium is unthinkable and therefore a plan we could not support.

Phil Jones says he has use Mann’s “Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series”…to hide the decline”. Real Climate says “hiding” was an unfortunate turn of phrase.(0942777075)

Tom Wigley says that von Storch is partly to blame for sceptic papers getting published at Climate Research. Says he encourages the publication of crap science. Says they should tell publisher that the journal is being used for misinformation. Says that whether this is true or not doesn’t matter. Says they need to get editorial board to resign. Says they need to get rid of von Storch too. (1051190249)

Ben Santer says (presumably jokingly!) he’s “tempted, very tempted, to beat the crap” out of sceptic Pat Michaels. (1255100876)

Tom Wigley tells Jones that the land warming since 1980 has been twice the ocean warming and that this might be used by sceptics as evidence for urban heat islands.(1257546975)

Tom Wigley say that Keith Briffa has got himself into a mess over the Yamal chronology (although also says it’s insignificant. Wonders how Briffa explains McIntyre’s sensitivity test on Yamal and how he explains the use of a less-well replicated chronology over a better one. Wonders if he can. Says data withholding issue is hot potato, since many “good” scientists condemn it.(1254756944)

Briffa is funding Russian dendro Shiyatov, who asks him to send money to personal bank account so as to avoid tax, thereby retaining money for research.(0826209667)

Tom Wigley discusses how to deal with the advent of FoI law in UK. Jones says use IPR argument to hold onto code. Says data is covered by agreements with outsiders and that CRU will be “hiding behind them”.(1106338806)

Overpeck has no recollection of saying that he wanted to “get rid of the Medieval Warm Period”. Thinks he may have been quoted out of context.(1206628118)

Santer complaining about FoI requests from McIntyre. Says he expects support of Lawrence Livermore Lab management. Jones says that once support staff at CRU realised the kind of people the scientists were dealing with they became very supportive. Says the VC [vice chancellor] knows what is going on (in one case).(1228330629)

Rob Wilson concerned about upsetting Mann in a manuscript. Says he needs to word things diplomatically.(1140554230)

Briffa says he is sick to death of Mann claiming his reconstruction is tropical because it has a few poorly temp sensitive tropical proxies. Says he should regress these against something else like the “increasing trend of self-opinionated verbiage” he produces. Ed Cook agrees with problems.(1024334440)

Overpeck tells Team to write emails as if they would be made public. Discussion of what to do with McIntyre finding an error in Kaufman paper. Kaufman’s admits error and wants to correct. Appears interested in Climate Audit findings.(1252164302)

Reaction to McIntyre’s 2005 paper in GRL. Mann has challenged GRL editor-in-chief over the publication. Mann is concerned about the connections of the paper’s editor James Saiers with U Virginia [does he mean Pat Michaels?]. Tom Wigley says that if Saiers is a sceptic they should go through official GRL channels to get him ousted. (1106322460) [Note to readers - Saiers was subsequently ousted]

Later on Mann refers to the leak at GRL being plugged.(1132094873)

Jones says he’s found a way around releasing AR4 review comments to David Holland.(1210367056)

Jones calls for Wahl and Ammann to try to change the received date on their alleged refutation of McIntyre [presumably so it can get into AR4](1189722851)

Mann tells Jones that he is on board and that they are working towards a common goal.(0926010576)

Mann sends calibration residuals for MBH99 to Osborn. Says they are pretty red, and that they shouldn’t be passed on to others, this being the kind of dirty laundry they don’t want in the hands of those who might distort it.(1059664704)

Prior to AR3 Briffa talks of pressure to produce a tidy picture of “apparent unprecedented warming in a thousand years or more in the proxy data”. [This appears to be the politics leading the science] Briffa says it was just as warm a thousand years ago.(0938018124)

Jones says that UK climate organisations are coordinating themselves to resist FoI. They got advice from the Information Commissioner [!](1219239172)

Revkin quotes von Storch as saying it is time to toss the Hockey Stick . This back in 2004.(1096382684)

Funkhouser says he’s pulled every trick up his sleeve to milk his Kyrgistan series. Doesn’t think it’s productive to juggle the chronology statistics any more than he has.(0843161829)

Wigley discusses fixing an issue with sea surface temperatures in the context of making the results look both warmer but still plausible. (1254108338)

Jones says he and Kevin will keep some papers out of the next IPCC report.(1089318616)

Tom Wigley tells Mann that a figure Schmidt put together to refute Monckton is deceptive and that the match it shows of instrumental to model predictions is a fluke. Says there have been a number of dishonest presentations of model output by authors and IPCC.(1255553034)

Grant Foster putting together a critical comment on a sceptic paper. Asks for help for names of possible reviewers. Jones replies with a list of people, telling Foster they know what to say about the paper and the comment without any prompting.(1249503274)

David Parker discussing the possibility of changing the reference period for global temperature index. Thinks this shouldn’t be done because it confuses people and because it will make things look less warm.(1105019698)

Briffa discusses an sceptic article review with Ed Cook. Says that confidentially he needs to put together a case to reject it (1054756929)

Ben Santer, referring to McIntyre says he hopes Mr “I’m not entirely there in the head” will not be at the AGU.(1233249393)

Jones tells Mann that he is sending station data. Says that if McIntyre requests it under FoI he will delete it rather than hand it over. Says he will hide behind data protection laws. Says Rutherford screwed up big time by creating an FTP directory for Osborn. Says Wigley worried he will have to release his model code. Also discuss AR4 draft. Mann says paleoclimate chapter will be contentious but that the author team has the right personalities to deal with sceptics.(1107454306)

Phil Jones having problems with explaining issues over the Lamb image of global temps in the early IPCC reports. Says it shouldn’t be discussed openly at Real Climate. Says better left buried.(1168356704)

Phil Jones emails Steve [Schneider], editor of Climatic Change [plus others, editorial board of the journal?], telling him he shouldn’t accede to McIntyre’s request for Mann’s computer code. In later email to Mann (“For your eyes only, delete after reading”) Jones says he told Jones separately [presumably meaning without saying to the rest of the board] that he should seek advice elsewhere and also consult the publisher and take legal advice.(1074277559)

Briffa says he tried hard to balance the needs of the IPCC and science, which were not always the same.(1177890796)

An anonymous source says that robustness problems with the Hockey Stick are known to anyone who understands his methodology. The source says that there will be a lot of noise over McIntyre’s 2003 paper and that knowing Mann’svery thin skin he will react strongly, unless he has learned from the past.(1067194064)

Giorgio Filippo (University of Trieste) says that IPCC is not an assessment of published science but about production of results. Says there are very few rules and anything goes. Thinks this will undermine IPCC credibility. Says everyone seems to think it’s OK to do this.(0968705882)

IPCC review editor John Mitchell says that the issue of why proxy data for recent decades is not shown (he says it’s because they don’t show warming) needs to be explained. [Note to readers, this was not done Let's say that the explanation was nuanced - it said that the divergence problem, as this issue is known, was restricted to a few areas]. Also says that Mann’s short-centred PC analysis is wrong and that Mann’s results are not statistically significant.(1150923423)

como engulle la nieve un caáver ya rígido;

UPDATE: See our new The Senator Theatre RFP Proposals Info Page for updated details on each proposal

UPDATE: See our new The Senator Theatre RFP Proposals Info Page for updated details on each proposal, collected from various news media.

The Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC) revealed the four contenders for ownership of The Senator and their planned uses today:

The Lofts at The Senator Theatre - JR Owens Corporation (JR Owens)
A mixed-use development that includes the renovation of the existing movie theatre along with new construction of 24 two bedroom/two bath rental apartments on three floors, 27 secure parking spaces in the basement of the new construction and existing retail space.

The Senator Theatre, LLC – James “Buzz” Cusack, Jr. and Kathleen C. Cusack (owners of The Charles Theatre)
proposes to maintain the building as a single screen movie theatre, restaurant &
crepe shop with alternates
1) that would provide for a second screen & an arts education area in the approximate 2,000 square foot triangle to the south of the theatre, &
2) a sliding glass door system in the front of the restaurant.

The Theatre Project PUPKIDS, Inc. – Noch-Noch, Productions (Enoch Cook III)
The proposal suggests the mixture of live performances & cinemaplex attractions simulating a staged Vaudeville Revue to attract interest in puppetry & puppeteers.

WTMD… At The Senator – Senator Theatre Redevelopment, LLC (Towson University, Robert L. Caret, President)
WTMD-FM, Towson University’s public radio station proposes to relocate to the Senator Theatre through a historically sensitive renovation of the interior, a new addition to the south side of the building as well as an expansion of existing space on the north side of the theatre. The Senator will be home to WTMD’s daily operations, as well as a schedule of films, educational activities, concerts and community events designed to reach people from all over the region. The station will connect and promote the events taking place in the theatre.

Apparently the previous information that David Cordish has submitted a proposal was erroneous. Our apologies for whatever confusion they may have caused.
