Ok, ok, ok, die sind gruselig und grottig geworden. Ich muss mich mal wieder mehr mit Icons beschäftigen glaub ich. Sie sind zueason 3 Episode 10 “We all scream for ice cream”

I think you know what I’m talking about.  No?  Really?  I thought just saying “Angel” would be enough to give it away completely.  But really, no?  Okay then.

I’ll start by saying that I LOVE Angel.  I love David Boreanaz as Angel.  I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer and when he was on it, and I love that he got his own show out of the deal.  Although, I generally think that Angel as a standalone series was a little anticlimactic towards the end.  There’s a lot of build up, and it felt like there was no resolution.  No closure.

But I still love Angel.

And that may be just the problem.  Or not.  Depends on who you are, I guess.

You see, gentle readers, TNT does this awesome thing they like to call Primetime in the Daytime or Primetime in the Morning where they air older shows that used to be on during primetime.  So, yeah, they’re airing reruns.  So if you want to catch up with a particular show, you can.  Law and Order, Angel and Charmed are all on that roster.  But for me, Angel is the only one that really matters.

What’s great about it is that they air the entire series from start to finish over and over again.  All five seasons.  And they air two episodes a day.  So, in theory, if they don’t have any breaks in programming you can catch the beginning and watch all the way until the end every 11 weeks.  How cool is that?  Sure, I own the entire series on dvd once, and I’m on my way to a second time, but if Angel is on TV, and I happen to pass by it, I’m going to watch.  That is a given.

And this is where I talk about how much of a distraction that is.  At least for me.

My issue is the time of day TNT airs Angel.  And then it leads to the fact that they air two episodes a day.  They air it at 6 am.  And if I’m up, I’ll watch it.  But the only time I’m really up that early anymore is if I have to go to work at 8 am.  And if I have to work, I don’t really have time to be watching Angel because it’s easy to get engrossed in it, and I really should be getting ready for work.

Yes, I am easily distractable.  And a show like Angel is just the thing in the morning that will inevitably make me almost late for work every single time.  And I learned this last week when I was cutting it close every day.  Because Angel was on TV, and I had already see the episode, but I’ll watch just until the commercial break, because this is a really good scene, and it’s David Boreanaz.

So, gentle readers, Angel is my weakness.  Well, one of my weaknesses.  And a good enough reason for me to want to work at 11 instead of 8.  At least I can watch Angel AND be on time, if not early for work everyday.

So beware of Angel being all dark and broody so early in the morning.  He might distract you.

I went on a winter vacation in Europe with family friends. I looked like a bag lady with all those layers of clothing, even though at that time, I was underweight. My friend looked fabulous. Slim, elegant and she was as warm as a toast.

Her secret?

Tip No. 1 : Wear thermal underwear that fits like a glove, is well ventilated yet insulates so well without creating additional bulk. You could skip a layer or 2 of clothing in a mild winter and get away with it. The fewer layers you wear, the slimmer you look. It should be tight fitting. A bonus of tight winter underwear is that it acts as a sort of girdle to hold in the saggy bits of fat, giving you a slimmer silhouette.

Tip No. 2 : If you are going to wear a dress or skirt, make your legs look slimmer by wearing wool stockings. Choose one in black or a very dark color where possible, for that slimming effect.

Tip No. 3 : Wear fewer layers made of warmer fabrics. Winter is the time to take out your cashmere and wear it. Wear wool or silk instead of thick layers of cotton.

Tip No. 4 : Wear coats that hint at your figure. A too tight coat with unsightly bulges makes you look fatter. A coat that fits well flatters your figure.

Tip No. 5 : Keep warm with a gorgeous cashmere shawl. It doesn’t add bulk to your frame, instead, it perks up your look beautifully. Better than a necklace in that besides making you look great, it keeps you warm.

As simple as charm, one can watch the Charmed TV show online. Today, previous U.S TV series hits can now be seen all over again for as often as you like. Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano, and Holly Marie Combs were the main protagonist of the show who played the roles of three magical sisters (Prue, Phoebe and Piper) and came together in the Halliwell manor, which was their ancestral home. They were set to embark on a mission to stop and subjugate all forms of evil in this world and the only way they knew on how to achieve their goal was to become the greatest witches there ever was – the Charmed Ones.

Como en estados Unidos son muy aficionados a hacer listas con todo tipo de cuestiones, ahora no llega una en la que nos revelan los “10 mejores episodios pilotos” que ha habido en la historia de la pequeña pantalla. La fuente de dicho análisis es AOL (AOL televisión), una web bastante visitada en el continente americano.

El caso es que muchas han sido las series que se merecen estar en ese ranking y que lamentablemente se han olvidado de ellas. ¿Qué os parecen las candidaturas? ¿son justas o injustas la inclusión de algún piloto en esa lista? ¿echáis de menos a alguna serie que debería presentarse en este ranking?

1. Lost (Perdidos).
2. The Sopranos (Los Soprano).
3. ER (Urgencias).
4. Dallas.
5. Desperate Housewives (Mujeres desesperadas)
6. The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
7. The Cosby Show (El show de Billy Cosby).
8. Glee.

10. The O.C.

A favor de la lista: que evidentemente hay series que merecen estar ahí como “24”, “Urgencias”, “Mujeres desesperadas”, “Los Soprano” o indudablemente “Perdidos”.

En contra de la lista: se han dejado grandes episodios piloto de series tan buenas como “Héroes”, “Anatomía de Grey”, “Sobrenatural”, “Veronica Mars”, “Embrujadas”, “Dexter”, “V”, “Castle”, “The Vampire Diaries”… y una infinidad más… A parte que por ejemplo “Dallas”, “Glee” o “The O.C.” no creo que tengan un episodio piloto demasiado bueno para pertenecer a este ranking tan distinguido.

¿Qué pensáis vosotros? ¿falta alguna serie? ¿cuál?

There is a fascination in our culture with witchcraft, sorcery, wizards etc.

One can’t go too long without hearing about Harry Potter, spells, horoscopes, lucky signs, magic, and other elements of the “occult”. A popular TV series, “Charmed”, which ran for a long time on TV and is a top seller in DVD form, had its witches as main characters and demons as secondary characters. These witches would go around “vanquishing” demons to a netherworld (using the “power of three”) thus making themselves “heroes”. Exciting Drama and Entertainment for sure! But harmless? No, not when you realize that by the power of Satan (“the power of three”) these witches were casting out the servants of Satan (demons). This religion the witches practiced (wicca) made them out to be ‘gods’, but there is an inherent lie in all of this: only by the power of Jesus (God) can demons be actually cast out. When this witchcraft they practice on this TV show is done in real life, the witches don’t cast out the demons but are possessed by them! Are people so arrogant as to think that they can command around ‘superior created beings’ that are not restricted to a physical body?

Let’s see what Jesus said:

Mark 3:22 The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons."

Mark 3:23 And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in parables, "How can Satan cast out Satan?

Mark 3:24 "If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

Mark 3:25 "If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.

Mark 3:26 "If Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but he is finished!

This is not fantasy, folks! Spiritual beings such as Angels and fallen Angels (demons) are real. Do you think for one minute that these beings would be controlled by inferior humans? People have, by dabbling in witchcraft, have been possessed by demons or at the least invited them into their homes and lives. Usually explained away as poltergeists, bizarre coincidence, etc. these things happen frequently but are unreported. Fine, don’t believe me. Don’t say you weren’t warned!

What does the Bible say about this? Let’s look:

Lev 19:26 You shall not eat anything with the blood; neither shall you use magic, omens, {or} witchcraft [or predict events by horoscope or signs and
lucky days].

Lev 19:31 Turn not to those [mediums] who have familiar spirits or to wizards; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.

Lev 20:6 The person who turns to those who have familiar spirits and to wizards, [being unfaithful to Israel's Maker Who is her Husband, and thus] playing the harlot after them, I will set My face against that person and will cut him off from among his people [that he may not be included in the atonement
made for them].

So we see that God, from these passages, commands that we have nothing to do with magic, witchcraft, horoscopes, lucky ___, wizards (this includes the female version: witches), or consulting “familiar spirits” (which are demons you would talk to during a séance etc.).

What happens if we do? Will God punish us ? According to the Bible, yes He does punish for these practices. Let us consider what happened to King Saul because He consulted a Medium:

1 Chr 10:13 So Saul died for his trespass against the Lord [in sparing Amalek], for his unfaithfulness in not keeping God’s word, and also for consulting [a medium
with] a spirit of the dead to inquire pleadingly of it,

1 Chr 10:14 And inquired not so of the Lord [in earnest penitence]. Therefore the Lord slew him and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

If you read the preceding verses of this passage, you will see that King Saul committed suicide rather than go the horrible death he was faced with. Then his enemies desecrated his body etc. God punished Saul’s offense. Let’s also consider “forgiveness of sins” (Leviticus 20:6) was taken from one who practiced these magic arts.

Ok, so you are going to say, “that was the Old Testament, and we are not under those rules…”

Really? Ok, lets see what the New Testament says…

Rev 21:8 "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part {will be} in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

Rev 21:8 But as for the cowards {and} the ignoble {and} the contemptible {and} the cravenly lacking in courage {and} the cowardly submissive, and as for the unbelieving and faithless, and as for the depraved and defiled with abominations, and as for murderers and the lewd {and} adulterous and the practicers of magic arts and the idolaters (those who give supreme devotion to anyone or anything other than God) and all liars (those who knowingly convey untruth by word or deed)–[all of these shall have] their part in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone. This is the second death.

Uh oh…

Well now you know why when early Christians (when they first became Christians) burned their occult paraphernalia:

Acts 19:19 And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and {began} burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

I’ll wrap this up. If you are into these things, and profess to be a Christian, get rid of it from you life ASAP.

If you’re not a Christian, you are already condemned eternally by your sin and “need Jesus” today.

Puntualmente, gli ascolti portano le emittenti ad emettere i loro amari verdetti, portandole a cancellare alcuni dei propri show senza tanti complimenti.

In questo Novembre 2009 giunge dagli Stati Uniti la notizia della cancellazione di ben tre shows: Hank e Eastwick (ABC) e il Dollhouse (FOX) di Joss Whedon, che si conclude quindi alla seconda stagione.

Per quanto riguarda Hank, la cancellazione è stata netta e non verranno trasmessi gli episodi già girati. Diverse invece le sorti per Dollhouse e Eastwick: per entrambi verranno trasmessi gli episodi sinora ordinati / girati, ovvero tredici.

Personalmente mi dispiace molto per la creatura di Joss Whedon, perchè lo trovavo davvero molto particolare.

Eastwick, nonostante un cast sulla carta molto forte, paga forse lo scotto di essere comunque molto affine a Charmed (Streghe ndr), serie comunque rimasta nel cuore di molti dipendenti seriali. La produttrice esecutiva dello show, inoltre, pare essere furiosa perchè la ABC ha comunque troncato la serie di netto; gli autori non hanno quindi potuto modificare l’ultimo episodio, così da dare ai fans un degno series final.

E voi? Che ne pensate? Amavate questo show?

Después de la primera cancelación del canal The CW acerca de “The Beautiful Life”, esta vez le ha tocado el turno a ABC. La serie que no volverá a la temporada que viene es la nueva “Eastwick”.

Tengo que decir que yo mismo me sentía bastante atraído por esta nueva serie, ya que tres mujeres brujas es un argumento que ya hemos visto antes (recordad como eran nuestras increíbles “Embrujadas”) y del que yo mismo he estado enganchado irremediablemente.

Lo que sí que ha asegurado ABC es que emitirá todos los episodios grabados de la serie, es decir un total de 9 que compondrán la primera y única temporada de la serie. Al menos son capaces de emitir todo lo que tienen grabados, y no han hecho lo mismo que en The CW que decidieron cortar por lo sano.

La serie tenía todos los ingredientes para convertirse en un autentico éxito, pero creo que nos vendieron la piel del oso mucho antes de haberlo cazado. El argumento si que podría atraer a parte del público, pero lo que en primer lugar iba a ser brujas y hechizos se quedaron en meras anécdotas ya que la magia brilla por su ausencia. Se han centrado en las relaciones de las protagonistas con el sexo opuesto que en remitir una buena simplicidad acerca del mundo mágico, que quizás es lo que el público estaba esperando.

La cuestiones es que mientras que se sabe que “Eastwick” es cancelada ya que el canal ha dado la orden de no hacer nuevos episodios después de los ya rodados, las buenas noticias le llueven a “The Forgotten” que ampliará el número de episodios que tenía previstos para esta primera temporada.

¿Es justa o injusta la cancelación? ¿os gustaba la serie?

Chapter 1: Enter Neil

“The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.”

  Cold chaos fogged the air with apocalyptic rumors of the new century, but Neil’s windows trapped in the heartening heat. Luminous fingertips emitted from the fireplace and touched the small collection of football trophies and academic awards proudly placed above the fire. Though Christmas had just recently passed, there was neither tree nor stocking hung; there had been no ceramic snowmen or toy train sets. Only burnt out Christmas lights sat sadly in the trash. Neatly framed and hung newspaper clippings and diplomas jacketed the bricks that built every wall in this living room.
The sound of a small television echoed through this condominium. Its gentle voice crawled across the brick walls of the living room slicing through the silence and led straight into the kitchen. A small white television on top of a dark oak counter, beside an exhausted coffee machine, presented the news. The voice of the reporter cracked through the staleness of the airless apartment but did not rift into the mind of Neil Maillen.
 He sat alone above a plate of piping hot  microwaved lasagna and glanced at the empty chair beside him. Taking a deep breath the smell filled him and pushed a wave of his chestnut brown hair from his dark eyes and dust-colored face. Neil hadn’t eaten much of his T.V. dinner. He poked at it several times with his fork, flirting with the long white tendrils of steam that danced before him like a snake. A heavy stone sat in Neil’s stomach for a while now. It was the lingering feeling that something pivotal was about to happen. He couldn’t quite put his finger on why he had been feeling this way, but here he sat January 10th, feeling the same way he had for a while now—nervous, paranoid and anxious.
 Standing he pushed those feelings away and walked into the living room sinking into the  centered brown leather couch. Neil had done fairly well for himself. Above the fireplace were awards that he had received in college as a football player and awards that he had obtained more recently as a writer. All around the room, hung his most prominent articles written for a local magazine called Vivacity. Neil was young very successful and proud of that success because he worked very hard to get it. The green eyes of those older and less lucrative resented him but besides the award-winning articles was an invisible frame that held the pride that came with outshining those who doubted him.
 Neil was a man with a set of strong and dynamic eyebrows that demanded respect for the story that they told. Black-brown and heavy, his eyebrows told of his accomplishment and struggle. He sat back and untied his expensive designer tie. Image and success was very important to Neil, so he always dressed professionally and the clothes fit nicely around his tall athletic build. He liked to wear solid colors, and expensive fabrics, he was young and needed to dress respectably.
Growing up Neil was raised by middle-class parents with strong religious morals and faiths that they pressed upon their loving child. When he was 14, Neil had been diagnosed with the chicken poxes and had to stay home from church. That was the Sunday that his church had burned down, trapping and killing both his parents inside. Neil hadn’t picked up a Bible since. From then, he lived alone, scraping by on earnings he had made as a cashier at a local grocery store, eventually working his way through college earning a degree in journalism and thereby securing himself a job as a journalist.

Neil picked up a glass of red wine that stood on a wooden table end and placed it to his lips then lifted a pen and pad of paper. Running his fingers across the brown peach fuzz above his lip and the neat, hardly-there beard on his chin, he gazed at his notebook.

 Tomorrow, Neil was interviewing an actor but tonight, the fear of something coming was stronger than ever. Unable to think of a single question for the actor, he filled his barrel chest with dead air as he relaxed. He knew he could write a great article regardless, but he always preferred to be prepared.
“Neil! Get your ass down here!” following the voice Neil walked to the window and beheld the giant red moon that appeared strangely larger than usual. He recognized the voice and the long blonde hair of his ex-girlfriend as she stuck her head out of her car window and slammed her fist on the car horn. “It’s time!”
 It seemed like Rhea, Neil’s college girlfriend, had been pregnant forever. He often wondered why they had broken up. The love between a college football player and a cheerleader was written in the stars, but Rhea had often complained that Neil hadn’t spent enough time paying attention to her and, frankly, she was right. Once they graduated, he had been so deeply involved in his work that Rhea was left bitter, resentful, and pregnant. The two soon split, holding nothing but an unborn child between them.
 She slid over into the passenger’s seat as Neil jumped into the car. Lifting a thick black eyebrow, he asked, “How did you do this by yourself?”
 Rhea’s blue eyes were arrows as she spat, “None of your damn business! Now drive the damn car!”

As Neil pressed his foot on the gas, he realized how Rhea had changed since their breakup. Grunting slightly, he drove over the speed limit, confident that he would hit nothing as he headed to the hospital. A bead of sweat trickled down Neil’s face as his concentration began to wane. His skin felt warmer as a headache, accompanied by a distant staticy sound, entered his mind. Then he heard Rhea’s voice, “God the baby is coming now! I wish Neil would hurry up!”
         Rhea was in labor, he knew, but his patience for her had run slim. He gave her another wicked glance, and then looked back at the road. “I’m going as fast as I can. It would help if you would be quiet!”
  
      “I didn’t say shit to you!” Rhea panted as sweat melted on her cheeks. Her hands grabbed the sides of her stomach and her light eyes met his.
 
       “Oh yeah, right, I heard you,” Neil spat, turning a sharp corner.

        “What the hell is wrong with him?” Rhea thought.

        “Nothing is wrong with me,” he grunted. “I just wanna concentrate on the road.”
 
       “Then fucking concentrate! What are you talking about?” Rhea shouted.

 “What do you mean?” His voice creaking slightly as they entered the hospital parking lot. Lungs full of hot air, he quickly jumped out of the car and opened the passenger side door, helping Rhea out. Holding the enlarged stomach of his past girlfriend, Neil ran into the hospital lobby.
As the doctors lifted Rhea onto a bed a young nurse pressing a hand on Neil’s chest stopping him from following her, “Sir, are you the father?”
Beads of sweat melted on Neil’s face, “Y-yes…”
The red headed nurse then curled a string of red hair around her finger. “Okay, a little greasy… but still kinda cute…”
“Do you have your insurance card? I’m going to need you to fill out some paper work. You can see your girlfriend soon…” she stressed the word.
Placing a hand on his wet forehead Neil closed his eyes. He tried to focus his thoughts, but his temples pounded too strongly around his raising fever. Through his dilheuium, he nodded and grabbed the clipboard from her.
Heavily Neil fell to his seat, exhaling a hot breath of exhaustion and dizziness.
“Why don’t you just hurry up and die you old bastard, I’m sorry Dad, but I just can’t afford these weekly visits to the hospital! I have too many bills! Bills that you crocking could help fix! Boy, I’d be on easy … Wow, that guy doesn’t look so good.”
Struggling to hold the clipboard between his hands Neil looked over towards the young man as he pushed his wheel chaired father to the front desk.
“You okay buddy?” he asked. Neil nodded. “Please,” the man smiled painfully, “do everything you can.”
What was going on? Neil swallowed hard. What were these voices in his head? Why was he feeling so sick all of a sudden? Staticy bursts exploded in his mind as he struggled to read the pages before him.
“DUMB ASS BITCH PAY ATTENTION WHEN I TALK TO YOU BEFORE I KICK YOU IN THE NUTS!”
Neil looked up to the small blonde girl standing before him. Smiling she tilted her head and held a box of candy bars before her. “Hi sir, would you like to buy a candy bar?” Quickly, Neil fought through his queasiness, fished a dollar from his shorts and bought himself a candy bar.
Rhea gave a hoarse, dry scream, her eyes narrowing into a complete line and her mouth showing all of her teeth. Neil grasped her hand and let her squeeze as tightly as she needed. Dr. Sommers, smiled brightly and coached Rhea in her breathing.
 Neil’s fever had grown stronger. His headache pounded more intensely and he closed his eyes. Reopening them to a blurred image of the room and a weak body. Neil fell to the ground.

Brown eyes flicked in the fluorescent light above him as he awoke several moments later. He was still in the hospital.

 “I hope Alex remembered to get milk.”
 
The sound entered Neil’s ear banging slightly on his temples.
 
       “What?” He asked.

        “Nothing…” The nurse spoke, entering the room, and pulling some earphones from her ears. “You’re up…?” 
 Neil shook his head slowly, aware of the remote battering inside of him. “No, I heard you,” he said. “Something about milk.”

The nurse backed up, but then smiled. “Did I say that out loud? I guess you would like to see your baby now?” she asked. “Don’t worry, lots of fathers faint at the sight of birth. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

“Hmph,” Neil huffed, leaning over towards the glass of water, embarrassed of his own shortcoming. “Yeah, right.” He muttered as the nurse left the room.

“It’s a boy” the nurse smiled returning later, handing the child over into Neil’s arms. The baby had a head full of brown-black hair, like his father, and his face expressed in a pinkish glow.

Abruptly Neil woke up to a shrieking alarm clock. It was set to 7:00. “Great, three hours of sleep.” he muttered throwing over his white bed sheets and sitting onside of his bed for a few seconds. Recapping the night before Neil realized he prepared no questions for the actor but was forced the panic away with confidence. This interview was too important to miss and he would do a great job.
Neil was driving over the speed limit. Every time he tried to slow down, he’d lose track and begin speeding again. Like every other day, Neil stopped at a fast food restaurant. He threw an old coffee-stained paper cup to the bottom of his blue jeep, an area that was full of other discarded cups, wrappings and a yellow crowbar. Neil drove up to the window and a pimple-faced teenager was there to greet him. “May I take your order, sir?”
  He sighed, “Just a medium coffee.”

“A dollar ninety-eight,” the youth said, his voice nearly cracking.

 Neil snagged a dollar and a handful of change from his pocket. The teenager brought over a paper cup filled to the top with coffee. Slowly, trying to keep his balance, he reached the window and leaned out holding the coffee far away from his body. Before Neil could grab the coffee, it spilled. Steaming liquid burnt Neil’s knees and stained the passenger seat.

 “This is Versace!” Neil yelled. An intense feeling erupted within him; a feeling that pulled at each part of his body at the same time, pounded a loud thud in his head; and feeling that telekinetically sent the yellow crowbar in the passenger’s seat through the passenger window of his car without a touch.
