After a long day and night of flooding rains and wind gusts up to hurricane force (74mph+) I set out to see what kind of damage was nearby. My home and property did not get too much other than a very unhappy Pampas or two and a rogue limb. Oh, and leaves..there were lots of leaves.

As you can see, some people were rather quick to chop up limbs and trees and put them at the road for pickup.

So, we all have been aware for quite a while now that Tropical Storm Ida made landfall at 6:40 a.m. Eastern Time on Dauphin Island, Alabama. Not too long afterwards, it was considered “Extra-Tropical” bringing tons of rain to the south eastern US.

This afternoon the first rain bands moved into the Hampton Roads area. A nearby weather enthusiast posted a photo to Twitter, and that was all it took. I grabbed my keys and camera and was gone. Did not even bother to take my purse that was sitting right there on the table next to me, which contained my drivers licence and spotter ID card (I like to keep that on me just in case, cause you never know if you get approached for “suspicious behaviour”)

I was only intending on going down the road and coming back. After all this time, I should know that if I go out for anything weather related, I should expect to go a lot farther than I intended.

All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes
They’re all I can see

I don’t know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things
Will never change for us at all

If I just lay here
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world?

The Mayor of Wellford, Sallie Peake decided to make crime a little bit easier on criminals by bannin

The Mayor of Wellford, Sallie Peake decided to make crime a little bit easier on criminals by banning police officers from chasing suspects. The memo came out on September 2, 2009 with only two sentences saying:

“As of this date, there are to be no more foot chases when a suspect runs. I do not want anyone chasing after any suspects whatsoever.“

Seems like the city of Wellford elected a winner. The apparent reason for this memo is because several officers have been injured during chases which was driving up insurance costs for the town.

Reporter Chris Cato from the Channel 7 local news had the chance to interview this brilliant lady:

Reporter: “Are you telling your officers if they witness a crime – they witness someone commit a crime on someone else and they’re ten yards away – they can’t go stop that person?“
Peake: “Is that in there?“ (referring to policy)
Reporter: “It says no chases whatsoever.“
Peake: “Well, that’s what I said, no chases, didn’t I? I didn’t say nothing about a crime. If you see a crime, this that and the other -“
Reporter: “Well, that’s what a chase is – “
Peake: “Well, I told them no chase on foot, and (the police chief) know exactly what I mean, so you’re trying to twist what I -“
Reporter: “No, I’m not. You said no chases. No chases means no chases.“
Peake: (claps hands) “You got you a story, thank God! You are so sweet! You got you a story on a woman in Wellford! Hallelujah! I’m so proud of you, Mr. Cato!“

Clear skies have been the big story of the week! Give credit to the high pressure system over northern Illinois for a cool northerly wind and noticeably drier air. Expect highs around 70 for the rest of the week and no chance for rain! Bundle up after the sun goes down, however, as our lows will plummet into the middle 40s.

October went out with a bang! A severe weather event broke out midday Friday and I had the opportunity to go storm chasing. Numerous tornado warnings were issued for the Golden Triangle region and into western Alabama. Oktibbeha County had two separate tornadic storms at the same time! Brad and I didn’t have to travel far; we were positioned perfectly at the I-82 and I-25 exchange. Lots of pictures were taken just north of Starkville. Here’s one of them:

Before you jump to any conclusions, don’t let the title fool you. It’s not what you thin

Before you jump to any conclusions, don’t let the title fool you. It’s not what you think it is, and if you do know what it is… kudos to you. Also, to preface, this is written from a guys point of view (girls, this still applies to you, too). Let’s begin.

I’ve been stuck on this for several days now, just thinking about her over and over in my mind. The words I read are pretty much seared into my mind, “She is more precious than rubies.” She is worth far more than gold or silver. I would do well to find her, for nothing I desire compares to her. Who is she?

Wisdom.

Now, what comes to mind when you think of wisdom? An old, wrinkly man with gray hair and a long beard… or something like that? Ok, granted, the old guy might be wise and quite knowledgeable, but he is not who I found. A quick look at Proverbs 3, 4 and 8 will show something completely contrary to the old man on the mountain with a staff. We read about her, yes, her, wisdom. The benefits to the one who finds wisdom will last a lifetime.

“She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed.” Proverbs 3:15-18

And, if that’s not enough…

“Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; lover her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor.” Proverbs 4:5-9

Yes, there’s more that you can read. There are also cautions about the adultress (ex. Proverbs 5), who will try to pull you away, who will try to distract you. But when you have something like wisdom, calling out to you, why would you or I want anything less. Wisdom is this beautiful creation, and with her come understanding and discernment. Wisdom is not simply a mass of knowledge, wisdom enables us to understand, but, in order to get understanding, we must first get wisdom.

Now, something interesting to note. In Proverbs 31 we find the description of The Wife of Noble Character, and a really great description it is. Verse 10 states, “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” I don’t believe it is too far of a stretch to link the description of wisdom with that of a wife. Now, I am not, by any means, saying that a wife is the incarnation of wisdom. What I am saying is this, a noble wife is one who is wise, she has wisdom.

Wisdom is priceless, and the benefits are far worth the journey. But it all starts with God. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10 If you or I want wisdom and understanding, we must start with God, then, and only then, can we start chasing after her.

When engaging in everyday conversation, people very rarely state exactly what they mean. We often co

When engaging in everyday conversation, people very rarely state exactly what they mean. We often communicate in figures of speech and cultural references that demand of our peers a keen understanding of both the English language and the nature of the wider world. Fortunately, most of the doublespeak that we convey and receive is easily understandable to anyone who doesn’t live under a rock; for example, referring to an idyllic location as ‘Heaven’ is a clear and obvious allusion to the Bible, and the idiom, “My spider-sense is tingling,” is an unmistakable declaration of concern and suspicion, regardless of one’s knowledge of the mythology from which it derives. That being said, it’s impossible to avoid running into the occasional reference that leaves us utterly stumped. Whether one hangs around a person constantly mentioning indecipherable quotes from A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy or associates with individuals who typically stick to plain speaking, it’d be quite the feat to go through a day without being faced with at least one confounding terminology.

I suspect that for many people (myself included), one such phrase has always been “Down the rabbit-hole.” Whenever this particular allusion was dropped, I’d always resort to the good old ’smile and nod,’ pretending to be on the same page for the sake of my intellectual street cred. Even though I managed to grasp what it meant on a cursory level simply through the context of its usage, I was still unclear on precisely what it meant. After perusing through the first chapter of the term’s classic origin, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carol, its meaning has revealed itself to be explicit; I’m somewhat ashamed that I never connected the dots before. I imagine that any reader in the same boat as me will, after learning its implied metaphor, share my embarrassment wholeheartedly.

When Carol’s expedition into whimsical absurdity opens, a young girl (by the name of Alice) is strolling carelessly through a meadow, when a rabbit suddenly scurries through her field of vision, boasting a white coat and red eyes. She thinks nothing of it at first, but as soon as the rabbit “[takes] a watch out of its waistcoat-pocket, and [looks] at it (Page 12 of The Annotated Alice: The Definitive Edition),” it dawns on her that he’s certainly not a garden-variety woodland creature. It wouldn’t take much of a stretch to assume that the rabbit in question represents the new, the unexplored, the unidentified; after the rabbit scuttles away, it flashes across Alice’s mind that “She had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it, and, burning with curiosity, she ran [through] the field after it (Page 12).” This is an animal unlike any she’s ever seen; one could use the same expression to describe a new idea or avenue to pursue.

The following sentences are where things start to become interesting; Alice decides to follow the rabbit, and she catches up with it “just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge. In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.” If we’re to accept the rabbit as a metaphor for a new idea, concept, or opportunity, it should be rather obvious what “chasing the rabbit/idea down the ‘rabit-hole’ represents: following through with any new avenue that has been presented, solely for the excitement of discovery and adventure. Even though Alice isn’t sure where ‘chasing’ this rabbit will lead, she’s enthralled enough in its originality to pursue it without question. Most people can relate to the notion; when we’re presented with an adventure or new route to explore, such as a job promotion or, say, advancement to Varsity level on a sports team, we’re all ‘chasing’ that idea down a rabbit-hole, so to speak.

In a nut shell, going “down the rabbit-hole” represents embarking on an adventure; while yours, dear reader, might not be quite as fanciful as Alice’s, they are perhaps even more compelling and, dare I say, wonderful.

***

I stacked the books around the attic apartment. I stacked them there and closed the door. What else could I do? They were whispering to me all night, and I had to get some sleep. I slept. But when I woke the books had inched back to their shelves. When I opened the pages, I saw the letters had crawled away. This wasn’t good. I had things to do. A whole list. I checked the list. The words were still there. Thank God. But I spent the whole day chasing around Proust. And the next chasing Augustine. It took the better part of a year to get the best books back. And it took me most of the rest of my life to alphabetize the library then, and reset and retype the pages, too. I don’t know that I will ever know for sure that all the words were replaced appropriately. It’s so hard to tell one preposition from another. For instance, in French above, beyond, below abut the ofs and fors and tos from here. And from the proper distance, the verbs like still don’t move at all. And nouns, poor nouns, seem so lonely on the page.

I would like to take the time here and now in front of all men, to give You thanks for all that You do and are doing in my life.

But in the realization of some of that love, with a totally broken heart of gratitude I want to thank You yet again.

You are my all and all, and with each passing hour as I seek Your Spirit all the more You demonstrate ever more Your love for me.

I will honor you Lord this day in all that I think, say and do, may the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You.

Thank you for all the excitement you caused within the past 20 hours. At 2am this morning, the slight risk was amazing to see. You went from very poor CAPE, Instability and lapse rates to a slight risk with 5% tornado within hours. Very impressive. You really had me going this afternoon when an MD was issued in your anticipation. You must have really enjoyed all the attention. So much so you decided to take your sweet time. It really was amazing to wait ALL day for a chance to meet with you for some photo ops.

However, this never happened. The MD cancelled. You started to fall apart as you slowly moved eastward at a snails pace. The day was shot. Then as nightfall approached, you reformed yourself ninja style as a very lovely squall line. At 9:30pm EDT you trekked your way closer to me…

I see you are trying to make it up to me, but how can I trust you to even bring more than wind and rain when you have been such a disappointment thusfar? Instead of photographs today, I have radar captures. Really awesome..really…

Real time search is hot (theoretically), but Google is struggling to deliver results. They’ve started some real-time stuff in Gmail, though, with interactive widgets within emails. And now they’re branching out to real time on YouTube.

At first glance, real time video sounds even harder than real time search—and yeah, YouTube’s popular, but shouldn’t the Goog focus on what they do best/actually make money on?

Do not despair, however! It’s not real-time video they’re using on YouTube: it’s real-time search—in the comments. I know, just what you waited your whole life for.

As RWW puts it, YouTube comments are “notoriously useless.” Unless your job has to do with reading empty abuse or praise. That’s a pretty crappy job.

However, there is at least one useful application here: reputation monitoring. Not that anyone around here is an expert and published author on the topic or anything, but if you’re posting on the most popular video site on the web, it can always be useful to see what people are saying about you.

As yet, YouTube isn’t offering RSS feeds on the results however, which necessitates periodic manual searches for your (clients’) terms. However, as RWW notes, “In addition to search results continuously updated ala Facebook’s newsfeed (’3 new results’) there’s also a frequently-updated list of ‘trending topics’ on the search page.”

What do you think? Will this tool be useful for you? Do you want real time YouTube comments search, or do you wish Google would hurry up and get real-time search?

Well, well, well! It was just reported about a half an hour ago, that criminal charges will be filed

Well, well, well! It was just reported about a half an hour ago, that criminal charges will be filed against Falcon Heene’s parents for this balloon incident. Richard and Mayumi Heene did meet with Larimer County investigators earlier today, so something must have happened, or maybe they’re finally seeing through these people.

Officials are also seeking a search warrant, likely to investigate the space that Falcon supposedly hid in, as well as possibly computers, papers, and experiments.

I’m wondering what they could get charged with. The sheriff’s office did say they were going to contact the FAA, District Attorney, and other federal officials, asking about more appropriate charges than a misdemeanor. I imagine that they will be facing a very steep fine. Fuel ain’t cheap. Not to mention, the work that rescuers did, as well as the grounded flights from the Denver airport, have to cost something. Oh yeah, and filing a false police report on a missing child is bad, too. In the end, if they get charged, they’ll probably get slapped with a very hefty fine, possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Well, what else can I say? I guess this has pretty much been confirmed as a hoax, perpetrated by Richard and Mayumi, all for trying to get into the spotlight (they appeared on ABC’s Wife Swap twice, and Richard also contacted TLC as well as the Wife Swap producers a few months ago for an idea of making a reality show about him and his family). Not to mention, an interview on Gawker with a former colleague of Heene’s that claims that he helped in creating the balloon hoax (something about a UFO stunt), and that he became obsessed with being famous and getting his own show after appearing on Wife Swap. What a nut.

Also, apparently Richard *might* have sent TMZ a letter, basically stating that he is mad at the fact that people believe the incident was a hoax, as well as a different story on why his son said “…we did this for the show.” This letter also stated that he wants everyone to stay away from his house, and that questions will now be forwarded to a spokesperson. But, I don’t think it has been confirmed as being from Richard as of yet. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

This just keeps getting more and more interesting!

Gamblers who get in love with the excitement and “action” of play may, at first, be quite successful. They score fantasies of advance success and of play decent their personal path to riches and power. Those who are headlike for problems think they are smarter than the total bettor. They pair that gaming is exploit to wreak for them because they, different inferior intelligent people, real understand how to beat the system.

As they beautify statesman implicated in gambling, they derive an progressive allotment of their self-esteem from perception themselves as cagy or lucky. Because of this, digit things happen when they do incur the fateful losses. First, they suffer monetary loss. Second, and ofttimes much important, they get a flat ego.

Financial disaster, legal troubles,

To salve their self-esteem, they organize losses by blaming added people, much as the jockey or the pitcher, or by blaming “bad luck” in cards, two or lotteries. Or they reverberate on their handicapping abilities and archer themselves they will not make the one “mistake” the close time.

The monetary red is added matter, however, and this is dealt with differently. In say to get the loss, some gamblers “chase.” That is, they proceed their betting and growth the amount of their bets in inflict to rag even. Instead of saying, “It’s lost,” the chaser says, “I’ll make steady tomorrow.” Chasing losses leads the venturer to hazard with author than he or she dismiss give to lose, and often to appropriation money in an labor to get even.

Many gamblers haw tag for position periods, until they hear from ale undergo that this is counterproductive. The long-term preoccupancy with chasing losses is the process distinctive of the pathological gambler.

Chasing seems formal to many gamblers, as it implementation gift oneself a adventure to modify even.

If a venturer stops chasing, both money and self-esteem are lost. If the adventurer continues chasing and wins, both tin be regained. There is, therefore, the force to take in prescript to acquire losses. When continued gaming leads to relieve many losses, the ambitious gambler continues to borrow. The solon money borrowed, the greater the cooperation to more vice as the exclusive conceivable implementation of gaining sufficiency money to pay forth the debt.

This spiraling dedication to inflated gaming oftentimes depletes house resources. some ambitious gamblers cash in joint fund bonds, discharge checking accounts, hock spliff property, and take unsuccessful loans without the spouse’s knowledge. In position to reserve or get honorableness in the eyes of parents, partner and others — and because their paychecks are insufficient — fearless gamblers view more game as the exclusive alternative.

Fearing amount of respectability, the venturer hides loans. When gamblers alternative on the loans, fear that the slope or give companion will recount their mate haw route them to writer recreation as a thinkable hurried pick out. The activity that caused the difficulty is progressively seen by the venturer as the exclusive solution, as there is no remaining portion to seize the required money quickly.

As loans descend cod and pressures to pay get more insistent, sometimes involving threats of danger or of personal hurt from word sharks or bookies, desperate gamblers weigh the risks of “borrowing” (embezzling) money from their employer, making fraudulent loan applications or shelter claims, or concealment the money.

Once they exit to this temptation, the boundary to an modify greater allegiance to diversion has been crossed. This is especially true if they obtain money by give trickery or embezzlement. These kinds of crimes enable gamblers to cogitate that they are not rattling criminals. The money is exclusive “borrowed” so no figure is state hurt. But there is constant somaesthesia to act the money, and investigation on a conspicuous gambling gain is seen as the only trust for doing so. This extends the helix of involvement from solon gambling to solon and solon mislabeled activities — until the adventurer is caught, seeks paid help, or rattling does affect the conspicuous win.

Falling in fuck with the “action” and then chasing losses is the play portion for most men who become driven gamblers, but umteen women direct a diametric route. piece women also relish the “action” and tail losses, their initial need is often get — discharge from memories of joyless immatureness or maternal abuse, flight from nervous husbands, and flee from loneliness. formerly they became crooked on gambling, however, women canvas the unvaried ornament of increasing wonder as men, ofttimes star to crook activity.

Compulsive gambling is a serious habit. It can lead you to risk your financial security, your personal relationships, and anything else that you value. Very often compulsive gamblers are people who are easily bored and are always looking for action and excitement. It’s not surprising that gambling is such an attractive activity to this person.

* Preoccupation with gambling
* Hiding gambling
* Chasing losses (gambling even more to try and recoup what was lost)
* Lying to family and friends about the extent of gambling
* Unable to stop gambling even if it means risking job, relationships or other opportunities
* Committing fraud, theft or using other illegal means to get money to gamble.

Will you have a girlfriend if you chase her down and follow her consecutively every day for a month?

Will you have a girlfriend if you chase her down and follow her consecutively every day for a month? You actually might from your persistence but you also might get the cops called on you. Many people who I know who have some experience in the dating field believe that chasing is a bad thing. I can agree to a certain degree. Most of the time you can easily pick out who is the prize in an interaction between two people in the club. This can be seen by the way their body’s are positioned. If you don’t present yourself as the prize you will attract far less women. This means LEAN BACK but don’t lean back all the time or you’ll never kiss any cute girls.
This means NEVER approach anyone directly from behind. When you do this it looks like you are following and chasing them. Instead you can approach straight on or preferably at an angle that is more to the side.
Say you just met a beautiful girl and she’s starting to walk away in the opposite direction but she’s smiling at you but you really like her. what do you do? Do you follow her? Do go “Bitch”? Do you smile back and hope you see her again?
The most effective thing that i’ve learned doesn’t involve any of the above scenarios. At that exact moment she takes maybe two steps away, you can tap her on her elbow real quick and jump into some story or give some back handed complement and then continue talking.
“tap, tap, I think you look cute as a brunette but I think you would look a lot better with blonde hair” or the opposite if she has blonde hair and you think she is hot.
A big mistake many guys make when approaching women is leaving after they have talked for 5 minutes and rejecting themselves before the woman does. If you ever find yourself talking to hot girl don’t walk away unless you plan on attracting other girls nearby to make her jealous or unless she says something along the lines of “Fuck Off”. Then you walk away.

My cats came as a pair. They’re not siblings or distant relatives. “They’re friend

My cats came as a pair. They’re not siblings or distant relatives. “They’re friends,” said their foster mother. When I saw them sleeping together in the pet cage, Smokey (then Missy) had her arm around Marshy (then Marshmallow). It was a picture of bliss.

Now, I’m not sure the two are even friends. They seem to tolerate one another, sitting next to and near each other. One often follows the other around. While I don’t see them grooming each other, I’ve seen plenty of cat fights. Is it play fighting and friendly wrestling? Or is it real aggression, even jealousy? I’ve done numerous Google searches, trying to figure out if my kitties are friends or frenemies.

Play Aggression – Play fighting includes pouncing, chasing and stalking. It’s also part of the house’s hierarchy.

Screaming or yowling is a sign that the playing has escalated into fighting.

Another way to tell the difference between fighting and playing. Try breaking up the fight by clapping your hands or making a noise. If one cat runs and hides, it’s probably a fight.

Is there a size difference? Age difference? One is fixed and the other isn’t? Has one been to the vet or had surgery? All these could change/upset the original pecking order.

If cats groom one another, then they’re probably friends.

I think my kitties are friends.

The day started in southern Virginia Beach around 1pm. There were some rain showers in the area trying to form into storm cells the first few pics show this. Later in the day, things got a little more interesting. Once again, Pembroke Mall has not let me down for a good sup…Except the cop that was sitting in the middle of the empty parking lot. They may have been spotting as I could not think of any other reason for them to be there. They left me and my chase partner alone. Cause what is not suspicious about 2 people in a red Honda Civic hanging out the window with cameras in hand. My spotter ID card was handy just in case. =)
