I believe  I might have to re-think my Christmas and New Year plans.  My leg is making good progress, but I think I am supposed to give consideration to it, and not over-do things.  Part of my current plans included a few days of over-doing things, so I guess that is off, and I don’t want to palm those jobs off onto other people.

I discovered at my physiotherapy session today that I could consider wandering around the shops as one of my strengthening exercises, and that if I shopped for 2-3 hours that I don’t have to do that part of my regime, ’cause I don’t want to over-do it. I would still need to do my stretches, though.  I was allowed to take the strapping off my leg last night, and it was a relief.  It seems to have done it’s job though, and my leg feels a ton better.  I wasn’t too keen on putting my leg into a dish of hot, soapy water to get the tape off, mainly because it was still about 38c in my bathroom at 10pm!  It is much more comfortable tonight – I nearly need my cardigan on!

So my change of plans probably includes not putting up Christmas decorations at home, or at anyone elses home.  I still have to decide what to do about the family get-together because I am not sure I want to be bothered with it now.  Too much trouble to get myself, and two sisters with a broken foot each, up three flights of stairs, thereby ruling out last year’s party location.  I don’t want to have to deep clean the other three locations available to me either.  I don’t even fancy going to the park for this, and a restaurant is way too much trouble when everyone eats such different foods!

 I wonder why it is that we can find presents for one person on our list (and so that person ends up with, potentially, 6 gifts), and we can’t find anything satisfying for others on our list?  Much shopping (sorry, I mean strengthening exercise) has been done, but not much progress has been made.  I really must pull out everything I have bought over the last few months, and come up with a list of what needs to still be purchased.

On another note, I should say to my foreign friends, that shopping trolleys/carts in Australia, when there are outside carparks, tend to be fairly heavy duty, and are made from galvanised steel.  I have seen some smaller, lighter weight carts at the supermarkets in central Sydney, and I can say that the suburban carts are much more substantial.  There is still no word from the shopping centre security team over any footage of the incident…..

In the British Isles the rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) has a long and still popular history in folklore as a tree which protects against witchcraft and evil spirits.

The physical characteristics of the tree may have contributed to its protective reputation, including the tiny five pointed star or pentagram on each berry opposite its stalk – the pentagram being an ancient protective symbol.

The colour red was deemed to be the best protection against enchantment, and so the rowan’s vibrant display of berries in autumn may have further contributed to its protective abilities, as suggested in the old rhyme:

“Rowan tree and red thread
make the witches tine their speed”.

(tine meaning ‘to lose’)

The rowan was also denoted as a tree of the Goddess or a Faerie tree by virtue (like the hawthorn and elder) of its white flowers.

Rowan is said to offer protection in several ways. In the Highlands Rowans were often planted beside a house as the tree was supposed to stop evil spirits entering the house. Even now it is considered foolish to remove the a rowan tree growing in your garden. Pieces of the tree were carried by people for personal protection from witchcraft, and sprigs or pieces of rowan were used to protect especially cows and their dairy produce from enchantment.

The berries can be made into or added to a variety of alcoholic drinks, and different Celtic peoples each seem to have had their favourites. In the Highlands, they are made into wine As well as the popular wine still made in the Highlands, the Scots made a strong spirit from the berries, the Welsh brewed an ale, the Irish used them to flavour Mead, and even a cider can be made from them. Today rowan berry jelly is still made in Scotland and is traditionally eaten with game.

Ca o privire de ansamblu,  tehnologiile folosite/sau pe care intentionam sa le folosim sunt:  php+mysql, javascript, xml si flash.

Mihai ne-a vorbit si despre Joomla, care se pare ca face aproape totul in locul tau  (fapt pentru care o sa-l incerc si eu cat mai curand )

Hi folks, It has been some time since I’ve had a chat with you all. Weather here is terrible with rain and wind. Those of you who know the road to Eonish Lodge it is now like a river with 3ft. of water on it and rising fast. Our homes are safe and for this we are grateful. The strand in front of the bed& breakfast and self catering is completely covered in water. Looking at news reports we realise we are lucky that the flooding does not reach our homes; I can’t imagine how people cope with that situation. The only way in or out is with boat and that is sailing where the road should be. We are the lucky ones really and my hearth goes out to those people that have their homes flooded. Let’s hope we get a change in the weather conditions soon as we do feel like “the island folk”.

We have no guests staying  at this time of year. I enjoy the rest and time with family , it helps me recharge and get ready for next years guests. We look forward to our return visitors and meeting new people in 2010.

În seara asta 5 manageri de echipe ne-am strâns pentru a discuta despre tehnologiile folosite de fiecare în cadrul proiectului.

Sesiunea a durat cam 2 ore și fiecare am abordat câte o tehnologie importanta în următoarea ordine:

1) Andrei – JavaScript

• a punctat foarte bine caracteristicile acestui limbaj de scripting client-side
• am discutat apoi despre utilitatea acestui limbaj
• am amintit de Firebug ca si aplicatie pentru debugging-ul codului
• Sergiu a amintit de framework-uri precum JQuery și YUI

2) Eu – PHP (bineînțeles)

• limbaj de scripting server-side
• foarte bine documentat, fiind baza pentru foarte multe site-uri din prezent
• weak typing
• PHP ca limbaj orientat obiect

3) Tibi – AJAX

• Asynchronous JavaScript and XML
• nu este un limbaj propriu-zis, folosind JavaScript pentru partea de codare și XML pentru formatul raspunsurilor. Raspunsurile pot fi și în format JSON sau plain text.
• ne-a dat un exemplu cu o apllicație cu chat și a subliniat importanta metodei asincrone de comunicare

4) Mircea – JavaFX

• RIA (Rich Internet Application)
• http://javafx.com/samples/ – pentru exemple
• un bun inlocuitor pentru Silverlight sau Flash
• foarte bun pentru dezvoltarea unui joc online, browser based

5) Sergiu – CMS-uri (WordPress)

• Content Management Systems
• ”CMS-urile sunt o serie de programe, scrise de obicei într-un limbaj server site(PHP de exemplu dar nu numai) care folosesc HTML, CSS, AJAX și altele pentru a facilita afisarea și editarea de continut într-un mod facil”
• am discutat și despre diferențele dintre CMS-uri și Framework-urile PHP și despre folosire CMS sau scriere cod de la zero.

Caro Ale,
nella vita ho imparato che ‘l’innamoramento’ non è mai definibile universalmente, quindi chissà… Molte delle ‘cotte’ giovanili ahimè non sono ricambiate, ma fanno crescere ugualmente, soprattutto in quel periodo della nostra vita. Dalla tua descrizione, mi sembri un ragazzo dolce e sensibile, forse troppo, tanto da finire nelle situazioni più assurde. Venendo al tuo quesito, che tra l’altro affligge molti esemplari del sesso maschile: Le donne dicono di volere l’uomo dolce e simpatico, ma in realtà inseguono sempre gli str…? La mia risposta è si. Purtroppo si. Ma spieghiamoci meglio: la donna, e in fondo anche l’uomo, in una relazione, vuole sempre essere stimolata, per vivere continuamente un rapporto frizzante e non piatto. In realtà quindi quello che si cerca non è un uomo “stronzo”, ma un uomo che ogni tanto sappia ’starsene un po’ sulle sue’ senza essere sempre disponibile.

Nel tuo caso, probabilmente Laura non sapeva nemmeno lei cosa stava cercando, anche perchè ha giocato molto con te, vedendo la tua estrema disponibilità a seguirla. Un consiglio che ti avrei dato durante il vostro ‘inseguimento amoroso’: “Fatti desiderare un po’, non farti sentire per un paio di giorni”. Forse Laura avrebbe avuto modo di capire che tu non avevi solo lei in testa e che la tua vita sarebbe andata avanti anche senza di lei. E credimi si sarebbe data una ridimensionata. Dalla vita ho imparato che la mamma aveva ragione quando mi diceva: “In amor vince chi fugge”. Il problema è non fuggire troppo perchè l’altro potrebbe non inseguirci… Aggiungilo a uno dei tuoi motti e non chiudere il tuo cuore per un’esperienza che non è andata a buon fine.
