After a successfully upgrade of Smart Center from NG to NGX (R55 to R65), I had some problems with one of my clusters VRRP.

When I tried to push a policy, the following error message appears:

Reason: Load on Module failed – failed to load Security Policy.   ( message from member <firewall-name> )

I tried everything see an error message that told me something else, like:

• fw –d fetch <smart-center-ip> from Security Gateways
• fwm load -d <PolicyName> <security-gw> from SmartCenter
• Looking for all logs files

But nothing, help me. Although I had already seen this sk33893 before,I did not give due attention to it. My problem was exactly described this kb article.

I had an interface in one of my Cluster members, duplicated with the other node, but, the Nokia (Voyager) configuration was right. I just correct the ip of this interface in the Firewall object and push a policy. Works.

Conclusion

I lost almost 3 days trying to analyze this problem, building a lab to try reproduce this, while the solution was very quickly and simple.

Looking for a tool to do merge between objects from 2 or more SmartCenter Server, I discovered a Check Point command that could be helpful: cp_merge.

Using cp_merge it’s possible to do merge, export and import policies.

I used it, to do a merge between 2 Smart Centers Server and import a new policy. Works very well.

Drum roll please, the winner of the Homepaddock poll for best broadcaster is Jim Mora and the best programme title goes to Afternoons.

Jim got 39% of the votes after sitting at more than 50% until yesterday when a surge in votes took Peter Sledmere to 23%.

Mary Wilson attracted 13% support, Brian Crump and Kathryn Ryan got 10% and Clarissa Dunn 6%. There was a lone vote for Sean Plunket in the comments but his nomination came too late for the poll.

Afternoons won 33% support, Media Watch was second with 28%, Country Life attracted 22% of the vote and Check Point got 17%.

If this had been scientific I’d have to tell you how many people voted. Since it’s not, suffice it to say the results reflect high quality opinons rather than a large quantity of voters.

Jim and the staff at Afternoons will, as promised, receive a box of Whitestone Cheese, which will be delivered some time in the next couple of weeks.

This will be the only time you will ever see numbers used in the title or anywhere in my posts. I have a personal vendetta with numbers as most of you know. Anyway, though as always this year doesn’t feel any different from when I was eighteen. Given I did not expect anything extraordinary, but I guess there is always an expectation with me for something to happen.

Most people like to make New Year resolutions, but I make my own resolutions on my birthday. I always see my birthday as a sort of new chapter, or new beginning. I mean, to each his own, but I find it much more meaningful to decide to do begin anew as a year older.

And what I have decided for this year is just about what I decide every year. I have made the resolution to become more and to become better than what I was at eighteen. Given logic can back this, but it stands to reason that it matters more when you say it, at least from my perspective.

Anyway, that is all I really have to say today on my birthday. I hope all of you are well and happy. Take care.
