During the Easter weekend I heard on italian television (RAI) a reportage about the New York International Auto Show that is taking place just in these days. The journalist said the era of the SUVs was over because of the low sells of last quarters in the United States. Those imposing mammoth cars, with their V6 or V8 engines are too big, too expensive and drink a lot of gasoline. In some italian car sites they’re defined “exaggerated in weight and dimensions, not able to contain consumption and pollution, unuseful if not inopportune in every congested city of the world. A symbol of ever-wasting-America, obsolete with recent economy cracks… “.

In confidence, they’re talking about the new GMC Yukon (aka Chevrolet Tahoe). We know the situation of General Motors Corporation is dramatic. In 2001 GMC sold about 4.9 millions cars in the US, in 2008 they were 2.98 millions, -23% respect the previous year (40% less respect 7 years before). On March the 31st of 2009 president Barack Obama replaced Rick Wagoner, CEO of the company for 8 years, with Frederick Henderson, the man who “will lead the company through the restructuring efforts“. Now US government is thinking about a Surgical Bankruptcy. Call it as you want but always Bankruptcy is.

In the second part of his speech, our journalist said that US car makers are not able to produce a small car such as FIAT Nuova 500, that’s why on january the 20th of 2009 FIAT SpA and Chrysler LLC formed and alliance in order to allow FIAT to gain access to North American market and Chrysler to have a platform to build “smaller and more efficient vehicles“. For what I know Chrysler has not less problems than GMC. In december 2008 it was announced that Chrysler was out of cash and could not survive 2009.

If a small car (as the nephew of the old FIAT 500) could save Chrysler, what will save the titan GM? It seems the Detroit automaker should have bet on something… more extreme. During the NY Auto Show Segway and General Motors announced a partnership for revolutionizing the transportation industry. The project PUMA (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility), a two-person electric vehicle that miraculously balances on two wheels, is just a prototype but it sounds quite extreme if compared to the Yukon and the recall of 1.5 million cars for fire threat. Don’t you think?

Anyway it’s not the first time a project of an electric car should revolutionize the world of transportation. In Europe the electric cars were already in vogue at the end of XIX century, they were quieter, cleaner and smoother than other cars. Then oil was found in Texas and Ford began the production of gasoline car (that cost half price). Who killed the electric car?

The reportage was closed bitterly by our journalist who concluded saying that a nice and ecologic car is already available in the US market and that is the hybrid version of Chevrolet Malibu. It’s a pity no one dares to buy it!

In my opinion, and I wish to be wrong, there won’t still be big jolts for many years. In the short term I can believe in the FIAT 500, in the Tata Nano and the hybrid autogas LPG engines. But I think I’ll have to stand the awful Milan traffic some more, and surely sitting on my Diesel or Gasoline car rather than on a cougar… ops, I beg your pardon, a puma.

朝１０時に雄島に向け出発。
雄島散策1時間。
すごく風が強かったが、日本海を一望出来、地球は丸いと実感した。

東尋坊に移り断崖絶壁が凄く感動的だった。

昼食はお土産街道のやまに水産でカニ味噌雑炊を堪能。注文時カニを勧められたが昼食でもあって、高価なものには手が出なかった。

潮風にあたったので、三国温泉ゆあポートで荒い流した。

松井秀樹ミュージアムに向かう途中、三国湊座の三国バーガーを思い出して、途中立ち寄った。手造りバーガーで感動的な皆が薦めるお店だと納得した。車に戻る途中、旧銀行を見学した。

松井秀樹ミュージアムに3時半頃到着し、松井秀樹のこれ迄の有終の美を思い出しながら見学し、帰りにDVDを購入した。
松井秀樹のDVDを見ながら、千里浜なぎさドライブウェイに向かい夕焼けの時刻に何とか間に合った。

朝の天気からは考えられないほど晴やかで非常に美しい夕陽を左手にして走ることが出来た。

夕飯は羽咋駅前の割烹みずさわで、蟹釜飯と牡蠣釜飯を食べた。
ここの釜飯は非常に美味しく地元の人にも愛されている営業をしているお薦めお店と記憶したい所だった。

今日の宿泊地にした古墳の湯は、体を真から温めてヌルヌルではないが肌がスベスベになるお湯であった。
ここの男湯の地元ルールがあるみたいなので、いかれる方は、マーナーとして桶を椅子の上に反対にして戻すよう注意したし。実は、僕自身戻さなく入浴中地元の方々の会話で近頃の奴は桶も戻さずにいると会話していて、ここの男湯のルールを初めて知ったのでした。その後、桶を戻してくれた方にお礼は言っておいた。
P泊地の古墳の湯駐車場は静かでトイレも綺麗で今日もぐっすり寝れそうです。

I am not stating anything brilliant when I write The car industry is important to the United States economy.  Jobs. Revenue.  Jobs. GDP.  Jobs. Etc… The US is giving  or lending money to Chrysler and General Motors (GM).  (IMHO they are still going about this in the wrong way. Please see my previous post Buy Cars – A message to Washington on the stimulus.)

As the topic of  assisting the car manufacturers takes place, without a doubt, the subject of protectionism arises.

But these days, what is a domestic car?  What is an import?  Does it matter to our economy? Both domestics and imports provide jobs in the United States.  They both use varying degrees of  US materials. They both use US services like transportation.

As a result, it’s hard to tell what really an American-made car is, and perhaps even why it matters. Car buyers who wish to buy American have a confusing maze of information to navigate: there’s the location of the assembly plant, the percentage of parts content, the ideal of that name on the grille, and, finally, where the pocket is that will take the profit and re-invest it into future cars and products. Each element weighs differently to each person, to be sure, so we have attempted to create a comprehensive guide to understanding what it is that makes a car an American car. We add the final two criteria to clear the air on confusing issues regarding ownership. For example, you may think that the Dodge Ram is an American vehicle, but it’s really not: Because Dodge is owned by a German company, DaimlerChrysler, and because its parts content does not reach the US threshold of 75 percent, it’s actually an import. The US government determines a domestic vehicle by using a combination of (a) The Assembly Plants and (b) The Parts and Content.

So… did you know the Toyota Camry is considered a domestic vehicle?  Did you know the Chevy Tahoe is considered an import?

Los diputados que integran la actual legislatura no saben de crisis ni de problemas económicos, pues prácticamente duplicaron el parque vehicular del Congreso del estado en tan sólo un año.

De acuerdo con información que fue proporcionada por la Unidad de Transparencia del Congreso el número de vehículos aumentó de 14 unidades que se tenía registradas a finales del 2007 a 27 al cierre del 2008, primer año de trabajo de la 57 legislatura.

Entre esas 13 unidades nuevas que llegaron al Congreso se autorizó la compra de dos camionetas de casi medio millón de pesos cada una –que representan una tercera parte del gasto total– y que están asignadas a la bancada priista, aunque a decir de fuentes legislativas el presidente de la Gran Comisión, José Othón Bailleres Carriles, hace uso también de la camioneta Toyota Land Crusier que dejó a su salida el anterior líder priista y actual secretario del Trabajo y Competitividad, Pericles Olivares Flores.

En total el Congreso gastó 2.4 millones de pesos en la compra de vehículos nuevos durante el 2008, muy lejos de los 423 mil pesos que se gastaron en el primer año de la legislatura pasada en la compra de un solo vehículo, una Chevrolet Sonora 2005 que fue asignada al entonces presidente de la Gran Comisión y líder de la bancada priísta, Rafael Moreno Valle.

El resto del parque vehicular nuevo está compuesto por cinco jettas, cinco lupos, ambos de la marca Volkswagen, las dos camionetas Tahoe, y una Chevrolet Silverado.

Entrevistada en marzo del año pasado la presidenta del comité de Administración en el Congreso, Malinalli García, priísta de filiación justificaba la compra al asegurar que se contaba con modelo 1995, “incluso hay uno que está completamente acabado, está inservible. Nos salía más caro repararlos porque eran de tres legislaturas atrás que no se compraba el parque vehicular. Se designaron cinco autos Jetta para las fracciones parlamentarias, excepto el PRI, dos camionetas para las giras de los diputados”.

Inequidad priísta

La bancada del Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) no sólo es la más numerosa –lo que le ha permitido imponer reformas y aprobar cuentas públicas por mayoritero—además es la que más prebendas tiene en materia de vehículos oficiales.

No sólo tienen asignado una camioneta cuyo costo supera los 413 mil pesos –la Chevrolet Tahoe—, y que originalmente estaba destinada, según palabras de Malinalli García, a “las giras de los diputados”; mientras que a los líderes de las otras cinco bancadas con representación se les asignaron solamente un Jetta, cuyo costó según los datos proporcionados por el propio Congreso apenas supera los 152 mil pesos.

Además, como ya se señaló, usan también el vehículo más caro que tienen registrado en el parque vehicular legislativo: la Toyota Land Cruisier que dejó a su salida el actual titular de la STC, y por la que se pagaron a principios del 2007 casi 700 mil pesos.

De hecho en la legislatura pasada sólo el Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) y el Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD) tenían asignados vehículos. Rodolfo Huerta, entonces líder de los perredistas tenía asignado un Platina 2004, mientras que Víctor León Castañeda, dirigente de los azules, tenía a su cargo un Peugeot 206.

En cambio entre los priista no sólo el líder de la fracción gozaba de vehículos pagados con dinero del erario, el entonces diputado Fernando Morales Martínez –hoy precandidato priista a una curul en San Lázaro— tenía asignada una Suburban modelo 2000.

El resto de los vehículos estaban a cargo del Jefe de Servicios Generales, primero Lorena Herrejón Abud, y más tarde del también militante priísta Armando Díaz Arteaga –quién actualmente se desempeña como secretario técnico del actual presidente de la Comisión de Acceso a la Información Pública, Samuel Rangel—; de la secretaría General que tenía a su cargo Jorge Mora Acevedo, de la dirección de Administración del Congreso que encabezaba Eduardo Tovilla Lara y de la dirección administrativa que dirigía Sacramento Munive García.

Los priistas se consienten

Acababa de iniciar los trabajos de la 56 legislatura, cuando el recién nombrado líder de la fracción priísta y ex secretario de Finanzas, Rafael Moreno Valle, se autorizaba el gasto de 423 mil 990 pesos para la compra de una Chevrolet Sonora, la camioneta por supuesto fue asignada a su oficina.

Dos años después, y luego de la salida de Moreno Valle para contender como candidato del PAN a una senaduría, su sucesor, Pericles Olivares Flores, ni tardo ni perezoso también se autorizó la compra de una camioneta, más lujosa que la que traía su antecesor.

Los documentos oficiales señalan que el 31 de enero de 2007 Olivares Flores recibió una Toyota Land Crusier para su uso personal que costó casi 700 mil pesos. La camioneta fue heredada al actual líder de la fracción priísta.

Entrevistada unos cuantos meses después de iniciados los trabajos de la 57 legislatura, Malinalli García Ruiz (MGR), presidenta del comité de Administración en el Congreso, reconocía la renovación del parque vehicular, sin mencionar claro que prácticamente se estaba duplicando el número de unidades.

El Columnista: Pareciera que hay un subejercicio en los gastos, compraron parque vehicular con un valor de dos millones de pesos, la adquisición del Seguro de Gastos Médicos Mayores…

MGR: En efecto se compraron vehículos, porque los que teníamos eran modelo 1995, incluso hay que está completamente acabado, está inservible. Nos salía más caro repararlos porque eran de tres legislaturas atrás que no se compraba el parque vehicular. Se designaron cinco autos Jetta para las fracciones parlamentarias, excepto el PRI, dos camionetas para las giras de los diputados.

El Columnista: ¿Cuánto se pagó por la adquisición de los nuevos vehículos?

MGR: Dos millones 418 mil 227 pesos, con IVA incluido. Y fueron una Chevrolet Silverado con un valor de 173 mil 220 pesos; dos Chevrolet Tahue, costo total por las dos 832 mil 72 pesos; cinco VW Jetta con un costo total de 764 mil 475 pesos. Cinco VW Lupo con un monto de 648 mil 460 pesos.

El Columnista: ¿Cuánto costaba reparar las unidades viejas?

MGR: En 173 mil pesos.

El Columnista: ¿Qué van hacer con los unidades inservibles?

MGR: Las pasamos a servicios generales y estamos viendo la manera de sacar la convocatoria para venderla a los trabajadores del Congreso del Estado. Estamos hablando que sólo van a participar trabajadores. Diputados, directores y secretarios generales estarán impedidos. De plano hay una unidad que no sirve para nada la dejaron pésimamente mal.

El Columnista: ¿Se decía que fue el vehículo que estaba asignado al PAN?

MGR: (Risas) Si pertenecía a una fracción, no recuerdo si era la del PAN.

YouTube also has a category that is labeled travel and places.  The travel and places videos often include videos that vacationers have shot when they were in another area of the world.  Popular video locations are ones that are outside of the United States, but you will also find videos that focus on areas inside the United States.  In addition to filming interesting or historical locations, many videos have a focus on traditional events or activities.  It is not uncommon to find videos on YouTube that outline a particular festival or contest.

Entertainment is another category found on YouTube.  This category covers a wide variety of different online videos.  Many individuals have created videos that they feel are a source of entertainment, while others have a focus on real entertainment, such as television shows.  It is not uncommon to find a collection of scenes, accompanied by music, of popular television shows, soap operas, and movies.

Although music often falls into the category of entertainment, YouTube gives it its own category.  Many of the videos found on YouTube, with a focus on music, are created by those who are documenting themselves or their friends singing or participating in singing contents.  What is nice about YouTube is that they also have a special program for up and coming musicians.  This feature allows musicians to make their own music videos and share them with other internet users. This means that not only will you get to see an online video for free, but you may be alerted to a new band, that you otherwise never would have heard of.

It’s a long way from horse-drawn police wagons.

Before the snow melts this early spring, Chicago police should begin receiving new Chevrolet Tahoe sport-utility vehicles (right), part of Supt. Jody Weis’ plan to replace the entire fleet of Crown Victorias, the police car of choice for decades.

The SUVs have been a pet project of Weis’ since he took over almost a year ago. In November, the city signed a $59 million contract with suburban Advantage Chevrolet to provide as many as 2,000 Tahoes over the next three years, but given the city’s budget woes, it’s unclear how many will actually hit the street.

Each SUV costs $24,977, though options such as spotlights, police flashing lights and custom paint jobs could add thousands of dollars. The department also has the option to buy up to 60 hybrid SUVs with better mileage. Still, a study done by Michigan State Police show SUVs get about the same mileage as the old Crown Vics—just 11 miles per gallon—but accelerate, brake and corner like most police cars.

Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said Weis prefers SUVs: They’re more maneuverable and provide more room for police gear and portable computers, she said.

The vehicles also work better under “constraining weather conditions”—such as snow—and would give officers a better “vantage point” because of the vehicle’s height, she said.

If Chicago replaces its entire fleet with SUVs, it would be the first big city to do so, although some smaller towns, such as Plano, Texas, have done it. Those towns cite higher resale values and more room for police gear.

Chicago police started with wagons, modified by 1891 to include a covering to protect prisoners from being “exposed to the sight of the people on the streets, whether innocent or guilty,” according to newspaper accounts. Motorized vehicles were adopted in 1908, with the first radios installed in 1929. They brought “crime flashes” to cars broadcast by WGN. Later that year, 17 “Lincoln touring cars,” painted bright orange and installed with radios, gun racks for rifles, and pockets for “tear gas,” arrived and a parade through the Loop was planned.

A hydrogen fuel cell car driven by U.S. Rep. Eric Massa (D-NY) from New York to Washington, D.C. didn’t actually get him all the way there.

He was trying to show off the General Motors Equinox by driving it to Washington, but unfortunately he couldn’t find a refilling station.  As a result, Massa had to switch to another GM hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that was standing by in Harrisburg.

Long story short, both of the cars had to be towed back to where they came from by two Chevrolet Tahoe hybrid SUV’s.

Congressman Massa was sworn in last Tuesday.

De World Green Car verkiezing bestaat sinds 2006 toen het werd toegevoegd aan de World Car of the Year verkiezing waarbij een jury samengesteld uit auto-journalisten van over de ganse wereld de beste wagen van het jaar uit een lijst genomineerden slecteren. De genomineerde wagens moeten voor 1 januari 2009 op de markt zijn en dit in minimaal vijf verschillende landen verspreid over tenminste 2 continenten. Dit jaar is Xavier Daffe van `Le Moniteur Automobile`, het Franstalige broertje van de Autogids als enige Belg lid van het internationaal jurypanel.

3 specialisten op het vlak van groene auto-technologie zullen uit de lijst van genomineerden voor de World Green Car vijf wagens selecteren die dan aan de 58 kopppige internationale jury voorgelegd zal worden en waaruit de uiteindelijke winnaar gekozen zal worden. Dean Slavinch, redacteur van oa `Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology International ` zal Europa vertegenwoordigen. Daarnaast maken nog deel uit van deze specialistenjury, de Amerikaan Sam Abuelsmid, medeweker bij verschillende websites over groene autotechnologie waaronder. GreenFuelsForecast.com en Tadashi Tateuchi, een Japans ingenieur, ontwerper van een `Zero Emission Formula car` en auteur van verschillende boeken zoals “The day gasoline-powered cars disappear”.

De winnaar van 2008 was de BMW 118d Efficient Dynamics.De BMW scoorde vooral punten met z’n goede rijeigenschappen, in combinatie met z’n lage verbruik en CO2-uitstoot. Het gemiddeld verbruik van de 118d bedraagt 4,5 liter per 100 kilometer, de CO2-uitstoot is vastgesteld op 119 gram per kilometer.
