Archer’s Halloween was furry, fuzzy, and, of course, very cute! He visited my office for a Kids’ Spookfest with cubicle trick-or-treating, and then we visited Dad’s office just to say hello!

Here is a collection of Halloween photos, in case you missed them on Facebook. (And if you aren’t using Facebook, I highly recommend it! It’s my go-to place to post pictures.)

The last few are from photographer Rebecca E. Eden, who took Halloween photos in our new favorite place, Family Grounds Café. I’m never fast enough to capture Archie’s grin like she did! Even though we only had Archie’s Chewbacca headpiece with us, I’m so glad we ran into her.

The traveling Star Wars concert graced our diminutive state last Wednesday night and in doing so not only re-affirmed the emotional link I have to the the sights and sounds of these films. I’m not exaggerating in the slightest when I admit that when the orchestra broke into the Main Theme I broke into tears. I can’t say I was surprised, but the degree to which I was moved immediately once the music started was a bit unexpected. Luckily I got it all out of my system early and sat, transfixed and with a giant, fanboy grin smeared across my stubbly mug, as the rest of the show unfolded.

And what a show it was. Having watched the trailer on the show’s website I had a general idea of what I was in store for, but to actually be there was something else entirely. The spectacle was equal parts planetarium laser show and arena rock inter-cut with narrative exposition by none other than Anthony friggin’ Daniels himself. The man behind C3P0 guided the audience chronologically through the Star Wars saga while a video montage played behind corresponding pieces from John Williams’ music, all serving as a cliff notes version of Episodes I through VI. It was neat to look at the films–or rather listen to them, I guess–as pieces of music with visual aids. Despite the power a lot of the music has, not to mention how ingrained in our pop consciousness it is, lots of it falls between the cracks either because it doesn’t have/need the same punch as say the asteroid chase music or because you won’t hear a complete piece in the film. To be perfectly honest, it would have been just as awesome a show without the video going on behind the performers because the music does conjure up such vivid images on its own. All in all, a must for anyone who would still be in a position to see it (not sure where the tour is now or how much longer it’s going).

In addition to the performance, some props, costumes and concept art were on display out in the lobby. Most of it was from the prequels, with the exception of a few blasters, helmets and one particular carbon-frozen smuggler.

Ao meu ver, assistir um bloco televisivo dominical de dança com pseudo-atores e pseudo-atrizes das novelas brasileiras se caracteriza enquanto uma falsidade absurda: “estrelas”? Onde?

Mas não, nós do Ao Sugo, dado o nosso requinte, garbo e elegância trazemos para vocês um verdadeiro espetáculo de dança com as estrelas, direto da Disney. Até poderia ser da Bela e a Fera ou da Branca de Neve, mas não, não, não… Surpreendam-se!

Dans la vie de tous les jours, il y a beaucoup de trucs qui me font m’exclamer intérieurement (pas à voix haute: je ne suis pas encore complètement dément) “Wow, c’est vraiment overrated!”.  Donc, en plus de lancer un appel à tous nos lecteurs pour savoir comment traduire “overrated” (“coté trop haut”?), je vous présente mon Top 5 des choses les plus overrated.

1- Robert Pattinson

Premièrement, j’ai toujours pensé que c’était “Pattison” et non pas “Pattinson”.  Pourquoi ce N de trop vient s’immiscer dans le milieu du nom de ce soi-disant “sex symbol”?!  De plus, en tant que mâle-alpha hétérosexuel, je peux tout de même avouer trouver certains acteurs sexy, lors de soirées arrosées où moi et mes confrères divaguons sur le sujet.

Par exemple, si j’étais une femme (ou Alex Perron), je me taperais volontiers Christian Bale, Nathan Fillion ou Johnny Depp.  Par contre, je frapperais Robert Pattinson avec ma sacoche en hurlant “Au viol!”.  Sa tête démesurée, son regard vitreux, ses cheveux qui semblent avoir mutés en matière vivante à cause du gras et son apparence générale du Roi des Douchebags me répugnent.  Mesdames (et mesdemoiselles), montez vos standards vers quelqu’un qui se lave.

2- Les pommes

“Une pomme par jour éloigne le médecin pour toujours.” Faux. Avec une pomme par jour, tu t’enlèves des petits bouts de pelure des dents jusqu’à ta mort.  Et tu vas finir par être constipé en tabarnak.

3- Les vinyles (ou “des records” si vous avez plus de 60 ans)

Sauf si tu t’appelles Paul Oakenfold (trouvez c’est qui maintenant), les albums vinyles n’ont pas leur place chez toi.  En effet, à part pour le facteur “méga-nostalgie”, à quoi ça sert d’avoir ces assiettes de rubber qui jouent seulement dans la machine la plus désuète de tous les temps après la baratte à beurre?  Et qui sonnent comme si l’artiste jouait enfermé dans un coffre de char, à côté d’un micro-ondes qui cuit du pop corn?  Et qui sautent aussitôt que tu tousses trop fort?  En plus, la plupart de ceux qui trippent “vinyles”  sont des tits-culs qui sont nés à l’époque des cassettes minimum et qui se pensent cool alors…

4- Star Wars IV, V, VI

Je capote sur la science fiction, mais je n’ai jamais été capable d’embarquer dans Star Wars.  Je suis désolé, mais je me fous de qu’est-ce qui peut arriver à une bande de créatures en latex aux noms étranges (Yoda, Jabba, Chewbacca, Etcetera) ou une bande d’humains aux noms étranges (Leia Organa, Grand Moff Tarkin).  Et la je ne parle même pas des prequels, de la série animée, du film animé, des jeux vidéos, des Legos ou des comics books.

*NOTE: ce paragraphe peut s’appliquer autant à la série Lord of the Rings.  “Il faut jeter l’anneau dans le feu du volcan sinon la Contrée sera éliminée!”…Ok, bonne chance. M’en calisse.  Faites ce que vous voulez, les nains.

5- Twitter

Parlant de “m’en calisse, faites ce que vous voulez”, voici Twitter! Si vous avez toujours eu envie de tenir le monde au courant des moindres détails insipides de votre vie, voici votre chance! For all you Star Wars geeks out there, this video shows a woman teaching you how to make a chewbacca noise.

Saturday was just awesome. The place was packed. Costumed con-goers walked the floor. People crowded around tables and booths to get a look at the latest and greatest in comics, toys, cards and other collectibles.

Artist alley was loaded with folks showing off their skills. Guests like Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Julie Newmar (Catwoman) had panels. Folks lined up forever to meet Adam West (Batman).

The Coscom Entertainment table had people coming by in a steady stream, many folks getting a kick out of my zombie novel, Blood of the Dead, which takes place in Winnipeg. Likewise, out of the classic book mash-ups on the table, The Undead World of Oz by L. Frank Baum and Ryan C. Thomas was a huge hit.

Saturday was an absolute blast!

Que l’on fête Halloween ou non, impossible d’y réchapper. Que ce soit les mecs complètement bourrés qui trainent leur cape pailletée dans leur propre vomi sur le quai du métro, les étudiantes américaines qui boivent des bouteilles de vin rouge en essayant de ne pas perdre leurs oreilles de lapin ou les enfants maquillés et complètement égarés au milieu de cette jungle hostile, mettre un pied dehors samedi soir dernier était déjà une aventure en soi.

Personnellement, vu que les Transformers c’était déjà pris, j’ai opté pour le costume extravagant du mec qui pensait qu’Halloween, c’était le lendemain. Si vous pensez que vous avez fait mieux que moi, n’hésitez à poster des liens dans les comments.

Et si vous êtes restés chez vous devant l’émission paranormale de Dechavanne en vous demandant ce que vous avez raté, voici un aperçu des costumes cainris les plus fous, de Beyoncé en Spider-Woman à Jay-Z en Jason, en passant par des anonymes complètement dingues. Trick or Treat?

Khloe Kardashian et Lamar Odom en Batman & Catwoman (Lamar, passé 8 ans, ça marche plus ce genre de costumes)

Det som är synd bara, är att det inte är i Sverige vi får chansen att uppleva detta. Men med lite tur kanske de drar på världsturné och då vet jag en nerd som är bland de första att köpa biljett i så fall.

Ever thought of making your own Halloween costume? How about just the mask? If it’s anything slightly complicated this can be a daunting task. For example, check out this Boba Fett helmet. It was not bought from a store, it was built out of cardboard and hand-painted! It’s not one of those costumes that you can just throw together in half an hour and call it done.  I can’t even imagine how much effort it would take to make the full costume for Boba Fett, but after seeing the effort that went into creating this mask, I’d really like to see the entire finished suit.

Good news Kittens, I have a good one for you today. Perhaps you have even heard about this story. Apparently it is rather popular amongst the people who tend to believe in this sort of thing. Today Kittens we are going to talk about This Guy.

HISTORY

At the moment there is no ascertained relation or common trait among the people that have dreamed of seeing this man. Moreover, no living man has ever been recognized as resembling the man of the portrait by the people who have seen this man in their dreams.

That’s right my Kittens. People from all over the globe are claiming that they have all had dreams about the very same….ummmm……generic looking white guy. You know, some guy that really has no distinguishing features or traits. Just some average cracker ass cracker that you see everyday in shops, going to work, out at lunch, living down the street and driving the bus. An average everyday honky. This is big fucking news.

Now I know what you are thinking Kittens. You must be saying to yourself “hang on a second fucker….what if there is something to this. I think maybe possibly somehow when I was unconscious and sleeping if a gigantic bender maybe I have had a dream about this guy as well. I know I have seen him before….somewhere….I think…”

Yes Kittens you may have indeed. Allow me to burst this bubble for you and explain it all away so you can go to sleep tonight and not worry about the man in your dreams.

There you have it. Mystery solved. He isn’t a mystery man at all. The person that all of these people have been dreaming about is in fact 70’s easy rock legend…Neil Sedaka. You may now breathe a sigh of relief and go fetch one of his records and listen the nightmares away.

Don’t feel sad or cheated Kittens. This isn’t the first case of mistaken identity on a global scale by people who tend to believe in goofy things.

See what I mean? This kind of thing happens all of the time.

So what’s the deal with people who believe in This Man? Here’s what they have to say.

THEORIES

DAYTIME RECOGNITION THEORY
This theory states that the apparitions of this man are purely casual. Normally we do not remember precisely the faces we see in our dreams. The image of this man would thus be an instrument which, in the subject’s waking life, facilitates recognition of an undefined oneirical image.

(No seriously…it’s really only Neil Sedaka…get over it)

What the fuck is it with people who keep seeing the creator every lately? Who is that bored? Life is busy and filled with actual weird stuff. You know, losing footie teams, relationships, paying bills, going to work, trying not to throw yourself into a pit and embrace the sweet calming hug of death eternal. You know Kittens, real stuff.

In case you haven’t been reading the papers lately, let me bring you up to speed Kittens. It seems that the Creator has been showing up quite a bit lately. He didn’t get himself an infomercial or anything, or isn’t booked as the half time entertainment during the Superbowl. In typical Creator fashion he is doing things slightly more subtle. You know, rather unlike all of those biblical passages where he tends to make a big entrance and his feelings about places like Sodom fairly well known.

In one part of the world god has decided to carve his words into a young boy, you know….to show his love.

Humpf. Go figure. In a part of the world where human life isn’t exactly cherished unless it is making somebody else some money (for those of you who have seen Slumdog Millionaire, I need not explain further), a poor kid is suffering because he keeps getting marked up with the words of god, and it hurts him when it happens. You know, when nobody except the parents are around.

People are flocking to see scar-boy and undoubtedly paying to see the words of god.

What a fucking world we still live in.

Fret not though Kittens. There are more. Neil Sedaka and Allah aren’t the only gods that are showing up lately. The other guy Jesus is at it again giving shout outs to his flock in a typically Jesusy sort of way but unlike Allah who thinks roasting a kid alive is fun, or Neil Sedaka who is content just freaking out people who need the help of a shrink Jesus has a sense of humor as well and just like you, shops at Ikea, and also needs to take a piss.

If the image is agreed to be Jesus, rather than a fictional wizard or a bearded, middle-aged pop singer, it may be the oddest place for a vision of the Saviour since a Welsh woman spotted His face in the lid of a jar of Marmite during breakfast in May this year.

There you have it Kittens. Jesus is just like Rev Ted Haggard. he likes hanging around the toilet of public places hoping he might get a little hot lord-on-disciple action and get to stroke himself some nice pulsing hard flock. Unlike Allah and Neil Sedaka Jesus must be out plugging a new movie or just reminding everyone that his birthday is coming up and trying to tell the world that he doesn’t need anymore ties or piano lesson vouchers. He has been showing up everywhere you would expect the son of god to be. Just like the news story reported he has shown up on a jar lid of Marmite.

He’s also shown up in a meteor found in Russia.

There is also my deep personal favorite for reasons that are all too obvious…….Jesus is on Oprah…

So Kittens, how many of you think that Jesus is hanging out inside a jar of Marmite? How many of you think that Jesus has nothing better to do than scrawl himself all over an Ikea toilet door and how many of you think that if Jesus, Neil Sedaka or Allah actually existed that they would make their omnipotent presence know by sneaking their images into peoples Xanaxed out sleeping heads, onto a kid too young to defend himself or hiding on the set of Oprah?

If you were the type of person who believes in the fairy tales written in some dusty old books then you will remember that these folks weren’t exactly wallflowers. They were showmen and didn’t exactly go down in history for being modest. Proclaiming yourself as the son of god and king of the Jews isn’t what you typically think of as being humble. You would tend to believe that if they at the very least followed some of their previous examples of letting people know that they were still around crashing the party, they would make a bit of an entrance.

(David Lee Roth…Jewish and knows how to make an entrance, and also has about as many fans as Jesus)

(Chewbacca….not sure if he was Jewish or not, but sure knew how to make an entrance, and was a hairy as Jesus)

Maybe it was Chewbacca on all of those things. He’s hairy, has lots of fans and people all over the world know about his story. It’s just as plausible as Jesus and Neil Sedaka isn’t it Kittens?

Maybe Chewbacca is on Oprah and Neil Sedaka haunts you while you sleep. Yes? No?

Are any of those explanations any less goofy than the other ones that people believe?

At the very least people have actual proof of Chewbacca and Neil Sedaka so it is critically far more logical and critical that it is possible. What would make the other stories more believable than the ones I present as a possibility? Mine line up as at least a decent scientific explanation, and yet I doubt many people would believe them.

It is because of human conditioning, that is why.

Society is and will remain willingly obedient Pavlovian conditioned servants who would happily believe that Jesus is chilling out for all of the world to see on the insole of their workboot, and that some average white guy who they dreamt about while heavily medicated is the Creator…..saying nothing about why eye witnesses make for lousy testimony in courts.

An obedient society that believes in men in the sky, average looking white guys in dreams or Chewbacca showing up in the toilet bowl is exactly how it was meant to be because distracted masses who are afraid of their own shadow don’t tend to question the larger pictures very much.

We’ve all wondered (sometime aloud) “How the fuck does this person do it? They’re fucking retarded!! They have everything and they can barely tie their shoes without instructions.”

It’s simple Kittens, society is built to reward those people. The second you start thinking critically about your life, environment and path in life, it hits you like a sack of rusty bulldozer sprockets.

You are and will always be punished for thinking for yourself and asking the big questions. It is far better that you think Jesus buttered your pancake this morning than believe that the syrup just so happened to sort of looked like Chewbacca.

It’s way easier to believe that some god somewhere burned a kid, than believe that maybe his parents are just flat out evil fuckers or that some honky invades your mind while you sleep, rather than think that maybe secretly you kind of like Neil Sedaka.

Sé que esto puede parecer extraño y realmente ofensivo para algunos pero ojalá alguien responda. Siempre me ha fascinado la escena de La Guerra de las Galaxias – El Imperio Contraataca, donde Chewbacca tiene que cargar a C3PO a medio reconstruir en la espalda porque falta que le vuelvan a poner las piernas. Quiero disfrazarme así para Halloween Soy lo suficientemente fuerte para vestirme así y cargar mucho peso durante la noche.

Así que básicamente estoy buscando a una persona a quien hayan amputado ambas piernas (de preferencia hasta la cintura) para que me acompañe como C3PO durante Halloween. Deberíamos reunirnos antes para preparar el sistema de arnés para la carga. Hay varias fiestas a las que quiero asistir y sé que seríamos un gran éxito en todo lugar al que vayamos. ¿Quién se apunta?

Mais à moins d’être invité à la soirée la plus dingue de l’année et de ne pouvoir se déguiser qu’en Sasquatch ou Chewbacca pour pouvoir entrer, je ne vois pas trop l’intérêt d’acheter cette paire de pattes bestiales.
