Dave takes us for a guided tour through dusky soft shadows and nighttime machines, leading into more relaxed territory before revisiting those chunky Chicago roots. New dubstep/techno genre-crossing sounds blended with their forerunners round out the meander. Too many great new cuts to mention all of them, but Stereociti lays down a thick, clean groove with Drexciyan flourishes, Joy Orbison offers you a rainbow-colored glowstick, and DJ Sprinkles goes beyond deep.

my dear readers, today we approach a quadrant inside of my mp3-abyssum we didn´t approach before

my dear readers,
today we approach a quadrant inside of my mp3-abyssum we didn´t approach before – it´s the galaxy of the unfinished.

here are all the tunes I started to produce someday and never brought to a proper ending.
I recently discovered that most of the unfinished stuff is related to my former aliases ‘FX-INTRUDER’ & ‘Floater’.

so here we go with two unfinished tunes:
first one is a crazy tune from 1995 featuring my previous alias ‘FX-INTRUDER’. this housy track called ‘Madhouse’ is somewhere between house and techno and got lots of chicago, acid & detroit influences – but totally leads into nothing. a bit monotone the house-stabs rotate around themselves and the transitions aren´t smooth enough to make this a finished track. anyway a nice idea.
FX-INTRUDER – Madhouse

second tune is a short reprise-version of the ‘Floater’ track ‘Lucid’ (I posted the original HERE) and was originally planned as a reprise/fade-out edit for an cd-release which never happened. also this edit lacks a lot when it comes to smooth transitions – only things that changed are some drum & synthsounds and the overall length. a bit uninspired tho – hope yall have fun with it anyhow.
Floater – Lucid (2nd Coming)

i bought a bunch of tall, muted grey and purple candles at the supermarket two weeks back to heighte

i bought a bunch of tall, muted grey and purple candles at the supermarket two weeks back to heighten the ambiance for a vampire movie screening at my house. the screening was great, but then i wondered about wtf to do with all these weird candles…

since then, the sky has turned a permanent shade of pewter, my working hours have shifted to the late pm hours, and i have a lot more chill time at the crib. how perfect (and darkly eccentric) is it to just wake up at 1pm, throw on a comfy robe, light the candles and some incense, flip up the laptop, plug into the cyberweb, put on some juke and pretend we’re in some warped, no-so-distant future? right now, i’m getting my juke (and other post-apocalyptic muzak) fixes over at it’s after the end of the world. the bol, dave quam is a regular commenter over here and is pretty much THAT DUDE when it comes to all things chicago incl. ghettotech, juke, footworking, etc.

i highly recommend some deep tag cloud searching.

Q: HOW MANY TIMES IN A ROW CAN I LISTEN TO FORGIVE ME BY DJ NATE?!

A: going on 9 at the time of this blog posting.

And in case you were wondering, this is how you dance to this weirdness.

This groundbreaking 1985 House track still gives me goosebumps. With a rollicking bassline (4 string or Korg M1? Who cares?) and an incessant arpeggio, it grabs you from the start and keeps you there till the climactic end. It’s supremely satisfying , musically complex and full of surprises. When was the last time you heard a House track that did all that?

Who’s Jamie Principle you ask? Principle was the true technical wizard behind ‘Your Love.’ Knuckles did help popularize this gem and put it out on vinyl – but with his name on the cover. Ouch!

Nice vinyl version!

The entire instrumental was lifted by The Source for the 90s Candi Staton bootleg of ‘You Got The Love’. That one’s quite an anthem as well!

The arpeggio in my hit track Booty traces its inspiration directly to this classic.

Isn’t she adorable?

Music.

Sometimes it can’t easily be defined. It is what it is, and what it is…is good!

Heres a prime example. A track for me which instantly had me wide eyed in a panic to find out what it was I was hearing. Is it house? is it electro? The conclusion I came to and many others too about this particular record is that its neither, you cant tie it down, its a force to be reckoned with and it not only crosses genres but redefines them completely.

When Nitro Deluxe released ‘This Brutal House’ back in 1986 it blew up from the NYC underground quicker than they could press copies of it. And rightly so, it is an amazing track – haunting in its simplicity & with one single objective in mind…MAKE THEM DANCE!

Aldo Marin aka Nitro Deluxe was an 80’s electro producer and pioneer of crossover sounds.

He had a part to play in a mind boggling array of 80’s electro and early house releases. At a true crossover period in the world of dance music he used the now primitive technology around at the time to create melodies that still sound fresh today! He fused Chicago House, Techno and Electro into one record, thus creating a whole new sound.

Dont be fooled by the simplicity of the production, I guarantee you’ll be moving your feet before the 30 second mark arrives. If not, leave now!
