The contract is for $457,875.

The CTL Division heatshields are to be similar in material and in make to those used for Project Mercury. These heatshields are to be used only if a new shield being developed turns out to not be usable.

Research done by McDonnell, in contracts with Vidya Inc of Palo Alto, California and the Chicago Midway Laboratories, has developed four promising new potential advanced heatshield materials.
