Ahora un breve paseo cultural.

Alemania tiene la fama de ser un país consumidor de cerveza, siendo por tradición uno de los países más cerveceros de Europa.

Es así con sus 131,7 litros por persona y año (2005) ocupa el tercer puesto en Europa, después de la República Checa e Irlanda.

España por ejemplo ocupa el lugar décimo, siendo la media europea de 84,4 litros por persona y año.

La cerveza es en la gastronomía alemana un acompañamiento natural de algunos platos, de esta forma en muchas especialidades de Baviera no se entiende el plato sin un tipo especial de cerveza (como el caso de las Cebollas al estilo de Bamberg que se toma con una Rauchbier o cerveza ahumada).

Las variedades de cerveza alemana son innumerables (cerca de 5.000 tipos de cerveza distintos), cada localidad tiene su estilo propio y no es raro encontrar en algunas localidades cerveza artesanal, o incluso clubes con larga tradición de elaboración de cerveza a su propio estilo.

Sí, el Twitter. Esa cosa con la cual puedes postear mamadas a una velocidad alarmante. La verdad es que es práctica, lo malo es que requiere de mucho tiempo tanto el leer como el de escribir idioteces.

Para el bloguero promedio es un mal necesario.

4 Si puede salir mal, saldrá mal.

En vacaciones acostumbro a que pasen muchas cosas, tanto buenas, como malas. Ya estoy acostumbradoa aque me salgan algunos nuevos enemigos, pero no cuando son cercanos. Les contare a que me refiero.

Las vacaciones siempre son buen motivo para reunirce con los cuates y alocarnos en las fiesta.

No faltan las fiestas locas.

5 La Navidá

El año pasado no disfrúte mi navidad como todos los años, cosa que abordaré más adelante.

6 Estar Mormadito

Esto no pasa muy a menudo, pero cuando me dá, me dá. Todas las fiestas decembrinas me las pasé en cama.

y justo cuando salía de la enfermedád me dijeron que tenían que sacarme unas cuantas muelas para…. pues no se vien para que, pero me las sacaron.

Creo que eso estodo por lo que no he podido postear tan seguido como yo quisiera.

Por lo pronto  me despido y no les prometo nada, pero trataré de darme un tiempo escribir en su blog de confianza… ESA MOSTAZA.

Creo que tenía que escriber algo....nah, mejor alrato.

No tengo nada genial qué contar pero sí decirles que de verdad extraño toda esta vida bloggera, twittera y feizbukera xD que antes formaba parte intensa de mi.

Han pasado algunos meses  y yo me estoy reintegrando a este mundo… No con esto quiero decirles o prometerles que volveré a postear maoeno seguido o que intensearé al twittear como lo hacía antes, pero sí que estaré un poco más al pendiente de todo y de todos y que paso a pasito me reubicaré de donde me he perdido.

Quiero decirles que a pesar de muchas cosas que han ido sucediendo en este tiempo, mi trabajo no está tan mal y mi relación tampoco. Extraño mucho Veracruz, a mi familia, a mis amigos y a las salidas que diariamente hacía. Extraño no tener tiempo para disfrutar un buen café porque siempre es tarde y “se hace de noche” muy rápido, porque el camino es peligroso, porque te puede pasar “algo”, porque salgo tarde del trabajo y ni caso tiene pensar en ir a un centro comercial o qué sé yo. Odio trabajar en sábado ¡es un insulto! El fin de semana se acorta de una manera increíble y con ropa por lavar, casa que limpiar y niños que atender (?!?!   jajajaja ok eso no! U_U pero me expliqué, no?) ya no me da tiempo de nada! Creo que eso es lo que odio. Todo lo demás está bien porque a pesar de eso, me gusta la ciudad.

Ya no quiero seguir quejándome. Espero después postear algo realmente positivo. Últimamente EsaMostaza (el blog eeehh!!) se ha convertido en mi medio de desahogo… saca la catarsis Lety!! Por lo que intentaré no dejarme llevar por mis sentimientos jajajaja…

It’s funny how good singers can appear out of nowhere, and sometimes from distant countries around the world. The next girl is no exception.

Delta Goodrem is the Australian pop princess of the moment, and there’s no doubt about it. She has released three studi albums, all of them succesful, and surely she has one hell of a story to talk about, because she had to fight no only for her music, but also for her life. Let’s get to know this girl, shall we?

Delta’s debut album, Innocent Eyes came out in Australia during 2003, when she was 18 years old. The album was an amazing success, and gave Goodrem five consecutive number-ones singles: Born To Try, Lost Without You, Innocent Eyes, Predictable and Not Me, Not I. Delta’s debut was the most successful album in Australia in 17 years. It was the highest selling album in Australia of the decade and was the sixth highest selling album in Australian history. She co-wrote most of the tracks of the album. This album is full of pop songs and piano ballads (the instrument she plays) and reflects a young woman’s musical dreams.

Then, tragedy came. On 8 July 2003, at the age of 18, Goodrem was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer that attacks the body’s immune system. She was forced to put all her working commitments on hold while undertaking treatment for the disease. Part of her treatment included  chemotherapy, which resulted in the loss of her hair, and radiation therapy. The news of her diagnosis were newspaper and television headlines, and fans showed her great support during this period. Fortunately, she won her battle against cancer, and by 2004 she was prepared with a new album.

Mistaken Identity, is inspired by her battle. During her darkest moments, Delta wrote and co-wrote songs, with harmonies, melodies, instrumentes and lyrics, but this time, they were deeper and darker than her previous material. Goodrem stated it was a more mature album, because her life had changed, and her music had to reflect that. Songs on this album have quite personal messages and strange sounds. The albums features her first duet, Almost Here which she sings along Brian McFadden and it is the second single from the album. The other singles include: Out Of The Blue, A Little Too Late, Mistaken Identity and Be Strong. Nevertheless, some other songs from the album became also quite important, gaining more attention than the singles, like Extraordinary Day which talks about the day she was diagnosed with cancer; Last Night On Earth deals with life and death issues, while Electric Storm mentions emotional suicide. The album was not as succesful as her previous effort, but managed to become her secon number-one album.

Delta returned in 2007 with a new album, and a new concept. She called the album simply Delta and has a more up-beat pop sound than her last album. She co-wrote almost every track with her now boyfriend Brian McFadden and tried to create a new mood for her music. The album has a variety of subjects and includes her typical piano ballads, which keep getting better. This album’s singles include In This Life, Believe Again, You Will Only Break My Heart and I Can’t Break It To My Heart. Some songs have personal references, and there’s even a cover. Delta wanted the album to sound happier than the last one, and she did it. There’s also a US release, which includes Born To Try, the first single from her debut album.

Why should we listen to Delta Goodrem? Becasue she offers what a lot of artists today don’t: quality and modesty. Her music comes from her soul and she writes for her people. She manages to transmit her emotions through her music, and you as a listener can relate to most of her compositions. There’s another plus in the fact that she plays the piano, and I mean, it’s THE PIANO. Great instrument for a fantastic artist. I discovered her music one year ago, and she has become one of my dearest musicians.

Delta is currently working on her fourth studio album, and in the meantime, she has just released (on September 2009) her Believe Again: Australian Tour 2009 which is a CD/DVD release of her last two shows in Sydney. It includes her greatest hits plus a backstage video and some other stuff. I leave you here one of her singles and the lyrics. Enjoy!

I think a lot of you readers may agree with me in saying that music nowadays is a complete disaster. Each day, more and more musical “stars” appear out of the blue and most of them have no quality or musical abilities and are just a weapon of consumerism. (Like Disney’s High School Musical…) But let’s face it. There are some singers around there that have a spark of hope and at least, the idea of what they are doing.

This post focuses on some of the most famous girls from the rock/pop genre, which can be sometimes quite repetitive or extremely enjoyable. Whether aiming at the punky style, or at the simple pop, the next ladies have managed to get some attention, thanks to their voice or their compositions. You might know all this ladies, or you might not. Let’s begin!

KELLY CLARKSON

Surely, this 27 year-old girl has known how to move in the musical industry. Like Simos Cowell once said: “She’s not a girl who got lucky in a talent competition; we got lucky to find her”. We can say that Kelly is probably one of the most wonderful voices around the media. Her debut album Thankful which combined pop and soul, had a moderate success, but it was its follow-up, the rock/pop album Breakaway the one that rose her to fame and worldwide recognition. Her third album, My December, caused a big impression because of its dark tone, but in 2009 she came back to the top-selling charts with All I Ever Wanted getting even a new Grammy Nomination. Recommended songs: Behind These Hazel Eyes, Because Of You, Low, My Life Would Suck Without You, I Do Not Hook Up, Since U Been Gone, Never Again and Sober.

AVRIL LAVIGNE

The second girl on the list comes from Canada, she is 24 years-old and is known as the Punk Princess. We’re talking about Avril Lavigne. She’s the owner of three fantastic albums, that include quite a variety of genres: Let Go, Under My Skin and The B est Damn Thing. Her fourth album is coming out in 2010. One bonus about this girl is that with each album she releases, she changes every aspect of her to give some fresh air to her songs. Rumous has it that she’ll come back to her roots with her next material. MICHELLE BRANCH

This girl from Arizona is one of the most famous rock/pop girls. She might not have the whole fame of the previous two girls but there’s no doubt in saying she’s a sing of quality. She likes to experiment with different sounds and genres, releasing her fourth studio album in 2009. Her possesions: Broken Bracelet, The Spirit Room, Hotel Paper and Everything Comes And Goes. She also gained fame when she formed the Grammy-nominated country duet The Wreckers along her friend Jessica Harp. They released in 2006 the album Stand Still, Look Pretty which allowed her to explore her music with new rythms like the acoustic and the country. Recommended: Are You Happy Now?, Everywhere, All You Wanted, Sooner Or Later, Here With Me, Desperately. And with The Wreckers: Leave The Pieces, Cigarettes, Stand Still – Look Pretty and Lay Me Down.

KATY PERRY

She’s the newest girl in the group, but this doesn’t mean that she’s the one with less musical abilities. She has only two albums in her pocket: Katy Hudson from 2001, and her worldwide success One Of The Boys from 2008 that led her to be on the highest charts. Besides of having a nice body, she’s got a talent for writing some good songs. Her style is a bit weird, but manages to have a sticky pop sounds. She only has to train herself more in singing live. Recommended: Ur So Gay, I Kissed A Girl, Hot ‘N’ Cold and Thinking Of You.

P!NK

This list couldn’t be complete without this veteran singer, the controversial and exotic P!nk. Her discography includes: Can’t Take Me Home, M!ssundaztood, Try This, I’m Not Dead and her most recent album Funhouse. This 29 year-old girl has explored a lot of genres, from pop, passing through rock, punk, to R&B. She’s also known for writing songs with controversial meanings, that talk about sex, drugs, politics, and social problems. Her shows are worth-seeing and her music has evolved with the time. Recommended: Stupid Girls, U & Ur Hand, Get This Party Started, Just Like A Pill, Who Knew, Don’t Let Me Get Me, Funhouse, So What, Sober, There You Go and Dear Mr. President.

MARION RAVEN

Here it is, the final girl of the list. And this time, she’s from Europe… better said, from Norway. I’m talking about the dark, sexy, sweet and talented Marion Raven. She was the half of the lost duet M2M which rose to fame during the first years of the present decade. Her music os honest and full of quality. She composes songs with such emotions that you might even end up crying. She has two albums: Here I Am and Set Me Free. This girl has tasted a lot of genres, including rock, punk, goth, heavy, indie, soft among others, and she has done an excellent job. Her third album is coming out in 2010 and will be full of piano, according to her message on her website. She gained attention in Canada thanks to her duet with Meat Loaf called It’s All Coming Back To Me Now, one of the best power ballads of these days. Recommended: Break You, Here I Am, End Of Me, Heads Will Roll, Good 4 Sex, Crawl, Six Feet Under, Thank You, Falling Away, Get Over Me.

Well, the list is over. There are obviously more rock/pop girls that can be in this post, but this six girls have fought for their place in the music industry and have won it because they deserve it. I personally like a lot the first one and the last one, but I recommend you to listen to all of them, because they are all different and use their own personal sound. Which one do you prefer? Sad news for Hollywood. One more special celebrity has gone to Heaven. Yesterday, Brittany Murphy, who was 32 years old, died of a full cardiac arrest, apparently of natural causes. She was found by her husband in her bathroom and pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m.

2009 has taken already ther big celebrities and personalities of Hollywood, including Farrah Fawcett, John Hughes, David Carradine, Patrick Swayze & the singer Michael Jackson. Brittany Murphy had a succesful acting carrier, as well as good television appearances. Some of her most famous films include: Don’t Say A Word, 8-Mile, Just Married, Uptown Girls, and Happy Feet.

Lady GaGa la nueva estrella del mundo, que con su música, estilo extravagante, imaginación y mucho talento ha llegado en pocos años a convertirse en un referente para las nuevas generaciones.

Es común llegar al salón de clases , a nuestro trbajo en en alguna reunión y escuchar comentar sobre Lady GaGa, la chica atrevida y en casos muy criticada por la Prensa, pero de donde salió Lady GaGa?

Lady GaGa es  el nombre artístico de Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, una cantante, compositora y tecladista estadounidense. En sus comienzos en Interscope Records trabajó como compositora para artistas consagrados como Akon. Durante este período, comenzó a introducir su música en locales de Nueva York. Tras el reconocimiento por parte de Akon de la talentosa voz de GaGa, éste le propuso que se uniese a su sello discográfico Kon Live Distribution, con lo que GaGa comenzó a trabajar en nuevo material para su álbum debut.

Stefani comenzó a trabajar con un colectivo llamado Haus of GaGa en 2008 y lanzó su álbum debut llamado “The Fame”, en el que ella explicó que trata sobre “cómo cualquier persona puede sentirse famosa“. El álbum alcanzó la posición máxima en países como Reino Unido y Canadá y al mismo tiempo le acompañaron buenas críticas. Hasta la fecha, el álbum ha generado varios números uno internacionales como “Just dance“^[5] (nominado como Mejor grabación de música dance en la 51 Edición de los Premios Grammy) y “Poker Face“. Tras realizar colaboraciones de apoyo con New Kids on the Block y Pussycat Dolls, GaGa comenzó su propia gira, a la cual tituló The fame ball tour.

GaGa se ha visto influenciada por la moda y ha sido apreciada por su sentido del estilo provocador y su influencia sobre otras celebridades. Musicalmente, se ha inspirado en el estilo glam de rockeros como David Bowie o Queen así como cantantes pop como Michael Jackson y Madonna.

Su primer espectáculo oficial promocional para The fame, fue en el certamen de elección y coronación de Miss Universo 2008 presentando la canción “Just dance“.

Vacations are a great time for listening to music you have not listened recently, and it usually helps me to dicover again some songs, or shows me why I liked or like them. The next song/video is part of this feeling.

I’m sure most of you remember the sexy French Pop Princess Alizée Jacotey, who’s name on stage is no other than Alizée. This girl rose to fame in 200 with her debut album Gourmandises that included her #1 single Moi… Lolita among others. Her 2003 album Mes Courants Electriques… was also succesful although not as good as the prior album, but managed to get an excellent reception outisde France. Singles from this album include: J’en Ai Marre!, A Contre-Courant and the one I’m posting here, J’ai Pas Vingt Ans.

Some songs from Alizée in this album, were translated into English (and most of them aren’t as good as the French version) and the last one I mentioned is called I’m Not Twenty! I was glad to discover a few minutes ago I still like to listen to her soft French pronunciation and her really weird, slow (sometimes), sexy and well-practised coreographies (I think this is her best feature). We have to admit, this French girl… is cuts, haha. Here are the French and English version, so enjoy!

To enter a new country without anything but your Lonely Planet guidebook is akin to snorkeling: you only skim the surface of the sights, the food and the culture.

To enjoy a new country with a local who knows it well is a more like deep-sea diving into its very soul. You become part of welcoming homes instead of cheap, seedy hostel rooms. You get to eat home-cooked meals and share jokes with your newly adopted families and friends. Most importantly, you become privy to a deeper understanding of a land that isn’t yours, for you’re seeing the country through its locals’ eyes.

The country of my choice: Venezuela, the land of numerous Miss Universe title holders, the infamously outspoken Hugo Chavez and the thoroughly inconvenient one-sided currency exchange (buying dollars is illegal here). My local connection: Maikel, a documentary filmmaker and an old friend. In Maikel, I found a trusted guide, an inside man who knows which back alleys to take during rush hour, the times of night to avoid wandering the streets, and where to find the best rum and cacao chocolates.

Though only in his mid-20s, Maikel’s knowledge of Venezuela’s socio-economics, politics, history and gastronomy was abundant. From the moment I stepped off the plane to the time he brought me back to the airport, I was regaled with the tales and tradition of Venezuela, from the popular business endeavors tackled by the Spanish (restaurants) and Portuguese (bakeries) immigrants residing in the capital of Caracas, to the architect behind the mosaic floor design at the Simon Bolivar International Airport. But what stuck with me the most was the food Maikel introduced me to.

He showed me Venezuela first-hand through my eyes and my stomach. Every activity we undertook included a local meal, a snack, a drink or a dessert.

In Caracas, the high undulations of the country’s verdant mountain ranges greeted me. I soon deduced the reason why Venezuelan women were as curvaceous as they are. It does not involve the giving breast enlargements on Sweet 16 birthdays, but it is because of the food.

It didn’t take me long to discover that Venezuelan cuisine, to my dismay, doesn’t stay away from cheese, that all-time fattening and cellulite-inducing ingredient.
Every single meal I stuffed myself with freshly made soft, white cheese ( de mano , manchego , guayanes , clineja ) of varying levels of buoyancy and melts, from the ham-and-cheese filled crescent croissant cachitos in the morning and the thumb-thick maize pancake cachapas for lunch, to the gooey finger food of fried tequenos and famous cornmeal cake arepas at night. The Venezuelans, in my opinion, should replace the French as the famed lovers of this dairy product.

Performing my duties as a tourist, we scaled the heights of El Avila’s national park by cable car. On the mountaintop, we found the tourist hot spot immersed in a thick rain fog and teeming with food vendors and hungry families.

Held in hands, half-eaten, were plates of arepas , cachapas , empanadas (fried cornflour patties packed with cheese and meat) and bowls of sopa de mondongo (a thick, flavorful soup brimming with chewy tripe and boiled root vegetables).

As we waited for the rain to dissipate and Caracas to become visible from the mountain, I chose an ice-cold milky sweet chichas over a hot chocolate for the sole reason that every Venezuelan had one in their hands. Like Indonesians, it seems like they are firm aficionados of all things sweet.

When not consuming food, Maikel entertained me with stories of Venezuela’s gastronomy — from the tradition that lies behind the hallaca (a meal prepared by the family during the Christmas season), to the methods of creating a perico (scrambled eggs with tomatoes and onions).

Maikel’s father Miro, a well-known local food writer in the area, prepared my last meal in Caracas. The dishes may not necessarily be Venezuelan in origin, but were prepared with the love of a Venezuelan man (though Miro is originally a Croat and was born in Chile).

Indeed, it was the most exquisite of subtle flavors that exploded in my mouth in a frenzy of sweet, peppery and sour when I sank my teeth into Miro’s fresh Chilean salmon, coupled with soft-boiled plantain, sprinkled with chopped onions and coriander, glazed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Watching the sun over Caracas with Maikel and his family that evening, my palate recalled the days of feasting on cheese, sweet, fermented drinks, bitter buttery cacao chocolate bites and nectarous rum.

On my journey, I have consumed many delicious meals — alone. But there was a delicate difference in enjoying a country’s banquet of gastronomical delights in the company of friends. It made the flavors all the more indelible.

Hello again world! Vacations have proved to be a great time for my writing skills, which makes me feel happy. I the meantime, and while I’m preparing a “movie-review” post, I stopped to search inside my files and I found pictures of one of my favorite series: One Tree Hill. I admit I haven’t seen the sixth season, but still, I’m a big fan. One thing I’ve always liked from this series is the cast, which I think was really well chosen. So, let me introduce you here, the GIRLS FROM ONE TREE HILL.

Yeah, the first one is Peyton Sawyer, also known as P. Sawyer portrayed by Hilarie Burton. Peyton is the one who stays with Lucas at the end of the sixth season. She’s an art addict as well as a music fan and collector. Becuase of her love to music, she creates Tric, an special club and later begins her own record label. She’s… let’s say… a bit weird, but has a great heart and probably is the one who suffers the most throughout the series (until her last appearance). She’s always trying to help her friends, but sometimes she falls in deep depression.

The second girl is Brooke Davies portrayed by Sophia Bush. We can call this lady, the Queen of Drama, because she’s the one who creates a lot of disturbances during the first two seasons. But since #3, we can see emotional changes in Brooke, which gets us to really know her. Brooke is sweet, self-confident, a party-lover and a businesswoman, who has to struggle with her own mother because of her company. She’s sometimes quite a bitch with people she doesn’t like.

The last girl is Haley James-Scott portrayed by Bethany Joy Galeotti. Since the beggining, Haley appears as Lucas best female friend, and as a person anyone can trust in. She’s patient, comprehensive and calmed. Haleys changes a lot during the series, and ends up married, with a kid and as a school teacher. But the real good thing about her is that she’s a talented musician. Haley sings a lot of songs during the series episodes and she’s also a piano lover.

So now you know them. I didn’t include the other female characters like Rachel or Bevin, because they are not as important as these girls, and because they don’t appear in every single episode. Peyton, Brook or Haley… who’s the most incredible for you? Who’s the one you like the most? Let’s see your answers people!
