Today was a chill day, I don’t know what it is, but today didn’t feel like a school day. I mean I wasn’t in class most of the day and the times I was in class, I was just chilling. I think the only class I had to think in,was 5th period, which is pre-calculus. Fourth period was fun today, because we got to shoot off bottle rockets (mines didn’t go that far, because it was the size of a missile) and some people’s rockets show really far and high.

I know this is random, but commercials are very odd. Advertisers have been trying really hard to get people to buy their stuff. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t work, overall commercials have become more and more interesting over the past couple of months.

Back to reality (if I ever left it), I was really out of it today, like I was just going through the motions of school and not really there (if that makes sense). Maybe because this week is Thanksgiving, and I’m already in holiday mode. Speaking of Thanksgiving, my mom got the annual family email that had the dinner menu and who was going to do what, and I got put on karaoke duty. If you have been reading this blog, you would know that I had to do karaoke when my family went to Big Bear (my brothers practically embarassed themselves) and I don’t want to do it for Thanksgiving. But besides karaoke, I think Thanksgiving is going to be so much fun, and the good food is just a bonus.

Festival of Giant Lanterns of Pampamga

During December in San Fernando, Pampanga, the city celebrates the Giant Lantern Festival, Saturday before the Christmas Eve. The festival features competition of creatively built giant lanterns. Through this, the city has earned the nickname The Christmas Capital of the Philippines.

Origin: The art of parol making tradition started way back 1928 as Francisco Estanislao made a symbol of the Star in Bethlehem when he made the first parol that has five-point star lantern, lighted by a candle or carbide lamp. Lantern-making industry in San Fernando is dramatically influenced and assisted to boost by this magnificent event, the Giant Lantern Festival. Originally named as ìLigligan Parulî or ìPista ng Parulî, the festival is said to have started in 1904.

Aphex Twin – Flim

Einfach chillig…

Denis Aydin and Andreas Rathgen, both from Germany, usually play some pretty hardcore psychedelic trance. You might know them as Day.Din and Radisnak. But I guess they decided to join forces and make music for those who are too fuckin’ tired, spaced out, drugged out and loopy to move even their eyes anymore. A Deep Dive is definitely in my tops for ambient music along with Tosca’s No Hassel, A Sunny Day In Glasgow’s Ashes Grammar, and the massive Life Through Bombardment by Eluvium, this year. It’s a great listen if you’re in the mood for just chillin’ (and rollin’). It’s special in that it’s a bit more than just the drones meant to cull you to sleep. A Deep Dive definitely has touches of Day.Din and Radisnak’s psychedelic and trance background. A few experimental tweaks and layers keep you attention yet mentally relaxes you at the same time. Imagine the technological sound of Trickform and Telefon Tel Aviv slowed to a heartbeat mixed with some of the black bass of Fever Ray, deep trance diminished to the basics, and the psychedelic nuances of Rathgen and Aydin. Yum. “Silk and Roses” and “Lost in Translation” are obvious faves for me on the LP.

Cand tocmai am crezut ca situatia s-a linistit si oamenii au terminat de aruncat cu fecale deampulea a aparut o noua bomba mediatica:

Boom.  Am sa trec repede peste faptul ca eu la 13 ani aveam o repulsie ingrozitoare fata de tutun si alcool, o sa presupun ca eram eu ciudat si nu prea aveam treaba cu realitatea.  Nu o sa aberez nici despre cum un mucos fara floci a reusit sa puna mana pe asa ceva, nu-i obligatoriu sa-i fi vandut cineva lui direct, oricine poate cumpara orice de la smart shop, mai departe, nu-i problema vanzatorului ce se intampla cu marfa vanduta, se respecta acelasi principiu de “utilizare responsabila” ce se respecta cand vorbim si despre vanzarea alcoolului, medicamentelor, a armelor si a masinilor, un pusti de 13 ani putea sa-si (sau sa ne) faca rau cu oricare din acestea.

Drept urmare nu conteaza cum a avut pustiu acces la fumabile, conteaza faptul ca acesti copiii au astfel de activitati. Nu spun ca-i rau sa fumezi un cui, bag in mine aproape orice si as fi ipocrit daca as spune ca am dubii asupra moralitatii actiunilor mele. Doar ca eu, si sper ca si voi, suntem oarecum informati, stim ce si cum se intampla si, indiferent de stilul de viata pe care il alegem macar pastram aparenta integrarii in societate: muncim, participam activ la mersul lucrurilor si ne exprimam nemultumirile fata de sistem doar prin infatisare si mentalitate, nu prin distrugeri, furturi sau alte activitati antisociale. Problema este ca noi facem asta pentru ca avem maturitatea necesara de a ne da seama de utilitatea acestor “masti”, iar maturitatea, cu exceptiile de rigoare, este strans legata de varsta. Un pusti de 13 ani nu poate lua deciziile corecte pentru ca nu poate analiza corect informatiile din jur, de aici apar complicatiile: dependenta, vanzarea chestiilor din casa, certuri, si eventual, daca nu-l potoleste nimeni, o duma atat de imbecila ce, daca nu-l omoara, sigur il fute pe viata.

Cand vine vorba de droguri toata lumea tipa “copiii copiii”, nu drogurile sunt problema ci mediul in care acei copii traiesc. Totul tine de educatie, prohibitia este doar o unealta ce are ca scop pedepsirea celor ce nu si-au invatat lectiile. De educatie trebuie sa se ocupe toata lumea, de la familie pana la scoli si mai ales jucatorii din Mass Media. Mai ales de catre Mass Media, ei au puterea de a schimba lucrurile, pacat ca nu o folosesc:

Adolescentul a început să fumeze plante etnobotanice încă din vară. Aseară, tânărul a ajuns acasă după o petrecere. La câteva minute, mama sa l-a găsit căzut în baie, fără cunoştinţă.

Cat a baut pustiulica ? De ce toata lumea zbiara cand se intampla ceva naspa dar nimeni nu previne ? Prohibitia nu rezolva nimic, trebuie incurajat consumul responsabil, daca tot se fumeaza, daca tot se consuma, daca tot se intampla rahaturi de gen… macar sa ni se spuna de ce. Ele in sine, ca droguri, au efecte interesante, nu se compara cu maria, dar nici nu-s de aruncat.

Yeah.  Adventurer Shackleton

Shackleton first came to my attention late in 2008 via the sublime mix album Uproot (which I posted here in April), produced by one of my absolute favorite beatmakers, DJ /rupture.  Almost exactly one year later, this collection – entitled Three EPs – drops the definitive word thus far on his (already stellar) burgeoning career.

Earthquake-level bass lines slither beneath evasive percussion maneuvers throughout every moment of this disc, providing a cavernous bottom end to support the origami skyscrapers of of sampledelic dexterity, all wrapped in loops of pulsing synth candy.  The palpably soupy atmosphere creaks and groans like an old ghost ship refusing to sink, far removed from the climate of foggy London alleys of dubstep to altogether more obscured and claustrophobic (not to mention exotic) environs.  Sitar drones ride lines of tablas and salt shaker cymbals, disembodied vocals drift through the mix spectre-like, and a time machine’s load of futuristic effects beam us from deep underwater through the Oort cloud and back.  More than anything else, this is music to disappear into, be swallowed up for an hour and dropped out with faint knowledge of where, exactly, the journey took us.

With a darkly romantic night drift more akin to Burial’s pitch black monster Untrue than anything strictly dubstep and a calculated iciness echoing nothing less than Muslimgauze himself, Shackleton stands neatly alone in his world.  This melange, spiced with minimal techno, middle eastern percussion tapestries and a truckload of straight dub effects, is truly a unique proposition – something felt more than heard, a necessary experience for anyone still reading.  Don’t be left out.  And, if you’re still unconvinced, merely try out There’s A Slow Train Coming, directly below.

I say “lonely hearts” with a pinch of salt here!

People always underestimate the power of the coffee shop as a tool for self healing.

Personally I find any cute cosy coffee shop, Starbucks included the most fantastic place for slef preservation and discovery. So I found myself passing a local Starbucks outlet the other day with a couple of hours to spare, and seeing as I’d just done well on an essay I thought I’d congratulate myself with one of their Christmas drinks. I walked in, and at first suddenly became painfully consious of the fact I was alone. It’s a pretty small outlet so I could quickly gauge that I was pretty much the only person in the room alone. I got my drink nonetheless and sat down on a sofa. It had been a tough week so I actually found it a nice experience to just sit, with no demands from work, people, whatever. As the time wore on I picked up the newspaper, something I should do far more often to keep in touch with the world around me, and before I knew it an hour had passed. I had completely lost track of time, and the fact I was alone, and had become comfortable with myself and my surroundings.

The next day I returned, armed with trusty book and another £3. It was the nicest feeling just to sit, listen to soft music, drink a comforting drink and read. Just read. Well,. for a while I observed people: much to my interest, today I was not the only one alone. Two other people sat alone also, doing their own thing, but both looking equally content.

The intellectual connotation of a laptop and coffee *sigh.*

It got me thinking. What is it about coffee shops that makes certain people feel better? Feel relaxed and at home? Sure places like Starbucks make good drinks but they also drain you dry! This week I’ve spent nearly £10 in there, a habit I’m sure has to stop!

Perhaps the ambiance of the space, set up obviously to encourage you to stay, but which allows free thinking, freedom to relax, which so often is missing in our busy everyday lives.

Perhaps, the connotations of those “cool” people who “hang”in coffee shops, of the 90’s “Friends” cliche. This is where it’s at.

Perhaps it’s the warmth and comfort that people entering without company can find in discovering they’re not the only one. And for some reason, it’s just acceptable to sit and drink coffee by yourself. You’re allowed to be cool and mysterious in a coffee shop whereas you’d just look odd un a restaurant.

In our modern lives, where social status is almost as important as…well, other very important things, having company is of utmost importance. We must always have someone to talk to, tell things, discuss with.  Being alone is almost pitied or frowned upon. But perhaps in always talking, always telling, we have lost the chance to be ourselves, be alone with ourselves and discover how we really think and feel.

Just a theory.

But try this one thing for me: this week, take an hour out of your day, take a book/work/anything you like and sit for an hour in the comfiest cosiest coffee shop you can find. Treat yourself to the nicest drink you see and relax.

I did this just once, and suddenly felt better.(well after an hour and a toffee nut latte.)

Take time to reflect if you will on what it means to be alone with yourself and happy about it.

Must we always be talking to others? Sometimes it’s okay just top be with yourself.

Well – if you think Kate is hot you should perhaps stare at the picture, and imagine spending a night on her couch, in front of a fire, while listening to this diamond of a track our man – Moonoton – just sent over “From Russia With Love”.

The slick production talent of Moonoton is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with, and joining forces with a secret Blues singer from St. Petersburg, having attended a concert of hers and lured her into the lair of the Moonoton bunker, is perhaps his finest moment yet.

You’d be forgiven for thinking INXS with its title of – “I Need You Tonight” – but it is in fact a cover version of Blues man – Buddy Guy – and despite the daunting task of covering such formidable figure the combined efforts of Moonoton and mystery singer comes off like a warm blanket around you (and Kate!) in a Siberian winter!

Setting sail in a downtempo fashion “I Need You Tonight” slides along like some theme tune to a forthcoming James Bond flick with dope, funky bass and the vocal soaring high above like Shirley Bassey had flown into St. Petersburg.

Winter may be approaching, and you and Kate can roast nuts with this!

Documentarul in sine este foarte prost facut, daca nu aveti rabdare sa va uitati la tot (desi merita) macar aruncati o privire asupra ce spune Peter Brabeck, CEO Nestle, cea mai mare companie alimentara din lume. Nebunia incepe la 1:26:48 iar pana la 1:28:48 dobitocul se prezinta si se pisa linistit pe modul in care omenirea a supravietuit si a evoluat de cand a coborat din copaci (sau a zis D-zeu “poof”) si pana acum vreo 100 de ani. Intre 1:28:48 si 1:30:28 mr CEO a reusit sa ma enerveze in asa hal incat as fi aranjat o mica intalnire intre ceasca de cafea de pe birou si al sau creier.  Nu aberez acum despre asta dar o sa-i vina randul. Starship Troopers: Daca te uiti la el ca la un film SF/Actiune si ai standarde mediocre atunci o sa-ti placa. Daca te uiti la el ca la un film ce transmite un mesaj, ce trage niste semnale de alarma, ce critica sistemul si omenirea… atunci o sa-ti placa si mai mult. CITITI SI CARTEA !!! Nu prea are ea treaba cu filmul dar READ IT !!! Strarship Troopers 2 a fost “cah” din toate punctele de vedere dar 3 :  “Hero of the Federation” poate fi apreciat doar datorita subtextului (subtextelor) prezentat. Daca te uiti la Hero of the Federation doar ca la un film de actiune… si iti place… te rog explica-mi de ce.

MATRIX: Duh’

13th Floor: Aceasi idee ce sta la baza Matrix doar ca putin mai umanizata.

Dark City: Aceasi tema ca-n Matrix si 13th Floor dar dusa ceva mai departe… si mai altfel.

Requiem for a dream: Ca nu se prea poate fara… astia obsedati de prafuri legale, uitati-va atenti la film.

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind: Probabil cel mai bun rol pe care l-a jucat Jim Carey in toata cariera lui. Trebuie sa inveti cum sa accepti binele cu raul… sau sa stii cand sa renunti.

Vanilla Sky:  Tom Cruise, Penélope Cruz si  Cameron Diaz intr-un film fara mitraliere, tancuri, spioni sau umor infantil.

The Wall: Pink Floyd si atat, must see.

Arizona Dream: este combinatia perfecta a imaginatiei lui Kusturica cu moaca lui Johnny Depp. Un film ce demonstreaza scurt si la obiect ca pana si un peste este mai inteligent ca noi.

1984 – Nineteen Eighty-Four: Viziunea lui Orwell transpusa pe ecran, nu-i excelent ca si productie dar subiectul, povestea, este geniala.

Fight Club – Un film genial, este probabil cel mai bun transfer carte-ecran de pana acum. Actorii, culorile, unghiurile…genial. Tot de acelasi autor a fost scrisa si povestea din spatele “Choke” care si el e bunicel… dar nu se compara.
