This is a part of the Up&Away collection. It is a pale pastel yellow creme. This was three coats. It was a bit chalky at first, but the second coat was way better! I needed a third because i was clumsy and made some bumps. This was without any topcoat, and indoors, so it looks a bit matte.. it’s not though!

Welcome to lacquerhead, home of Jazlyn and an intense love for all things nail and polishy. Disclaimer: This is not a serious blog. We come here to have fun and hear me yell about nail polish, funny things life throws at me and really heinous Disney productions. CLEAR? CLEAR. NOW BREAK!

What better way to kick off the blog than with GLITTER? Glitter is my friend, not food. (LET’S START A GAME. Anyone who identifies all of the hideous disney quotes in my posts gets one point. At the end of the month, whoever has the most points will be entered into a drawing and at the end of the year, I’LL GIVE SOMETHING AWAY. OHHHHHH SNAP.)

Please excuse the morphing watermarks. Some of these are with my old watermark, some with my new.

This beautiful, beautiful polish is called Emerald Sparkle, by China Glaze. This is three coats. It’s fine in two, but to really FEEEEEL the sparkle, you’ve gotta spring for three. Gorgeous. Smooth application, this one is a polish after my own heart.

Next up, the beautiful, the wonderful, the GLORRRRIOUS:

Let’s all pause to oooooooooooh, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. (Does that count as a disney quote? WHO KNOWS. POINTS FOR EVERYONE. FOUR FOR YOU, ALICE COCO. YOU GO ALICE COCO.)

OPI Absolutely Alice. She’s sexy! Look at that sparkle! That GLAAAAM! This was probably three coats. Formula was standard for a glitter – by standard, I mean it got absolutely EVERYWHERE during clean up, but what do you do. I’ll put up with it for THIS loveliness. Came off very easily with the tinfoil method. (I’m thinking of doing a tinfoil method tutorial. God knows it took me long enough to realize it WORKED. I was a nonbeliever too! I was reluctant to look like a space murderer around my home! But really, it is worth it.)

Oh swwwwwweet jesus. WE’RE BREAKIN’ FREE NOW. (Okay, that one was reaching a little bit.)

WnW Black Creme (1.5 coats!!), 3 coats of Pure Ice Strapless on rings. This is the best blue glitter polish in the entire world. You can try to tell me different. You can try to remind me that when you remove it, you find blue glitter in your pants and on your dogs for days after. BUT I WON’T LISTEN. IT IS AMAZING. IT SPARKLES IN THE DARK!! (Side note: WnW Black Creme? Best 99¢ ever spent. It applies better than my RBLs. WHAT!) Application is standard, no gloopyness ala SH Rockstar Pink, goes where you want, cleans up fairly easily. I am in love. See my eyes? They are hearts.

I love when you layer polishes and their names together actually sound like a polish. Grunge Breakup. It’s like an emo high school band waiting to happen.

Look at the pretty opalescent glitterrrrrrrrr.

RBL Grunge (2 coats) topped with Hard Candy Break Up (1 coat) & ChG Matte Magic middle finger. MAN, I just went all-out balls crazy that day or something. It came out so prettttttyy though! Excuse the horrendous cuticles/cleanup that I know were in these pictures, despite not having looked at them in a while. It was finals week. Enough said.

Zoya ROOOOOXXXYYYYYYYY. Roxy is my love. I wear her a LOT. Three coats. What I have to say about Roxy though is… she’s kind of a brat. She’s start by applying SO, SO NICELY! But by the third coat, somehow, she’s turned gloopy and hateful and god, you just want to go to bed but WHY WON’T THIS POLISH JUST APPLY, GODDAMMIT!

… But it’s pretty?

Claire’s Chunky Purple. This one was kinda gloopy, I remember. Not TOTALLY gloopy, just vaguely gloopy, like I should think about adding some thinner in a few months gloopy. Three coats.

I remember looking at this mani throughout the day trying to figure out if I liked it or not. It wasn’t until I went to take it off that I realized that I did, IN FACT, like it.

Now, I told this story on MUA, but I’m gonna tell it again because every time I mention/see this polish, it makes me think of it. I wore this polish to my ASL class last Thursday – it was my first class, I honestly had no idea what to expect.

WELL. What I got was an INCREDIBLY flamboyantly gay deaf man as my teacher. This guy was gay with a capital Gay. He was wearing a New Moon t-shirt. He batted his eyelashes when he signed “pretty”. He’s pretty much my new favorite person in the whole world.

So, we start the lesson. The first sign we go over? Hurt.

You laughed. Don’t lie to me.

Dear Polish Lover.

My Sunday is cold, but wonderful sunny, hope you’re having a good day.

My NOTD is from last year’s China Glaze Kicks Collection, and it’s a vibrant orange with lots of shimmer. I love shimmers, and this has the CG formula that I like so much; glides on like butter and is opaque enough in two coats. It’s a noticeable color, but not a unique one.

China Glaze Breakin’

(Click the photo for larger view)

I love orange as soon as it gets on my fingers, but after a while I get this urge to take it off, I don’t know why.

Do you have any of those colors that looks fantastic for half a day, and then craves to be taken off?

That’s all for today. Peace, love and wonderful nailpolish to you.

This polish is an orangey-peach shade, and I want to call it a shimmer but the shimmer in it is actually quite chunky, creating a more textured look than most polishes of this kind. Although it comes from a northern hemisphere Fall collection, which I completely get as it reminds me of the deciduous trees up my street in Autumn, for me it’s bright and shimmery enough to be a great summer mani as well.

I’ve gone all out and taken TWO (2) whole photos of this one, because it does change a lot in different lighting conditions, going from a rosy-peach (top photo) to a bronzey-orange (bottom photo).

Application was excellent – smooth and opaque in 2 thickish coats. Unfortunately wear wasn’t that great (maybe because of the thickish coats ey…) but it is such a pretty colour I forgave it!

Yesterday the pastels…today the China Glaze Up & Away brights! Cause it’s Friday, and we’re getting a foot or so of snow between today and tomorrow night, and I need some brightness to get me through LOL! I will be very disappointed if the snow means that Mike and I have to reschedule our Valentine’s dinner reservations (we like to go before or after the holiday to avoid the crowds!) but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

I got the first package of goodies for one of the giveaways during my bloggiversary week, and it is PACKED! Part of me wants to tell you what it is but I think it will be a cool surprise to reveal the giveaways each morning!!

I am also excited that I will review for you soon the new Konad plates! The plates (M75-M81 AND S10) are arriving on WowSoCool (remember, discount code beautyjudy gets you 30% off!) next week – the web site says they should be able to ship on Tuesday! They are limited quantity!

Back to the matter at hand! Brights!

Four-Leaf Clover:

Four-Leaf Clover is incredibly hard to capture! It’s definitely more green than this picture shows!

Heli-Yum:

Heli-Yum is a bright, happy pink!

Happy Go Lucky:

Even brighter than Lemon Fizz, Happy Go Lucky makes me smile !

Flyin’ High:

Flyin’ High is a great creamy blue.

A Flyin’ High comparison (remember you can click to enlarge!):

Flyin’ High really is no dupe for any of these three other colors, but they were the ones in my collection I thought it might compare with. I think Laura’s Fave is the closest, with the difference being the shimmer and more sheerness to Laura’s Fave!

Sugar High:

Sugar High is a

Here’s a comparison with last year’s China Glaze polish, Laced Up:

There’s a subtle difference between the two!

Grape Pop:

Grape Pop is a gorgeous purple creme!

High Hopes:

I love this name. High Hopes. You gotta have High Hopes. If you don’t, you’ll always expect the worst and that’s just no happy way to live! Oh – and the color is pretty too

What do you think of the brights? Have you ordered/bought any of these?!

I am sorry about the chipping on the tips, but i had to take this after work, and i had a tough day (nail-wise).

Anyroad, this is a red glitter polish. It has a transparent jelly base in a deep red tone, and some truly gorgoeus red glitters in it. I really love this polish! This is a part of the Wizard of Oz collection!

This was 3 coats

Dear polish lover. The moment of truth. To see the swatches all over the nail polish world is one th

Dear polish lover.

The moment of truth.

To see the swatches all over the nail polish world is one thing, to see them IRL is quite different. I have been looking forward to see these polishes on my own nails, and I can tell you I was not disappointed by the colors. They are just plain and simple fantastic!

The formula, however, was not as easy-going as it was on the brights.

Let’s roll:

Lemon Fizz

The most gorgeous, pale yellow. I had to use three coats, as the formula was somewhat streaky. But it’s totally worth it.

Light as Air

Sorry, China Glaze, the formula on this one is really messy. I had to interrupt the mani, take it off and start all over again. Still it got streaky and didn’t start even out until the third coat. The lilac color is so tender and soft and beautiful that I will definitely wear it again, but just thinking of it makes me almost change my mind. Just almost, though.

Something Sweet

If you’re looking for a pale, discrete pink, this is it! It’s so beautiful, and it was a delight to use. A little bit runny, but nothing to worry about.

Re-Fresh Mint

This one really met my expectations. It reminds me of Essie’s Mint Candy Apple, but a paler and (for me) much more suitable color. Also a little bit runny, but also nothing too extreme. Beautiful.

Peachy Keen

Wow! This was the one I was most keen on (heh!). And it lived up to may expectations in all ways. The color is the perfect orange-peach, and it doesn’t make my hands look weird at all, as many of the peach colors do. I simply adore this. And I didn’t mind at all doing three coats. Stunning! And no: I don’t have a dupe of this, not even remotely.

So, to wrap things up around this collection, I am very, very pleased with it. The formula was not consistent throughout all the swatching, but the only real disappointment was the Light as Air. I can live with that …

And now, my cuticles are crying for mercy, so I will go cuddle them for a while.

Peace, love and wonderful nail polish to you all, and thanks for clicking by.

Finally!

A month delayed due to travelling, here are my swatches from China Glaze’s Up & Away collection. I have been looking so forward to these, and I can say: The wait has been long, but not invane.

So let’s just skip the talk and go straight to the point:

I have divided the swatches in two parts. Today I give you the brights:

Grape Pop

A beautiful, deep purple cream. Almost THE purple. Very pigmented and rich, this is two coats. A stunner! (Ops! Sorry about the dent on my index …)

High hopes

A very bright orange leaning to pink. Rich and pigmented and an easy two coater. (A little bit more orange IRL)

Flyin’ High

I love this. It’s the perfect turqouise for spring/summer. Yay!

Heli-Yum

A glowing, summerly fuchsia. Again: perfect pigmentation.

Happy Go Lucky

Cab yellow and bright. Great color on itself, but it does not remotely fit my skin tone. Makes my fingers look kind of grey and clumpsy. Or as Scrangie put’s it: like lobster claws.

Sugar High

A vibrant pink, really cute.

Four Leaf Clover

(A tad greener IRL) This screams summer, grass and for some odd reason: White wine … Love it!

I have to say I’m very impressed about the formula of this collection. As mentioned they are all two-coaters, and you know I love those! Consistency throughout all these swatches.

That’s it for today, stay tuned for the last 5 from this collection: the pastels!

Peace, love and wonderful nailpolish to you.

There is something about sharing the discovery of a wonderful product that makes me so happy. I

There is something about sharing the discovery of a wonderful product that makes me so happy. I’m not sure what it is, but there are few things better than a good find! I haven’t reviewed anything in a while (let alone blogged!) so here are some good picks and one thing to stay away from!

As usual, most of this is coming from Sephora.

My birthday is on Monday so earlier this week I went to Sephora to redeem my free birthday gift. Last year I got a set of lipglosses that weren’t anything to write home about, so when I saw that this year they had Sephora Collection Beautiful Eyes Kit I was excited, but I wasn’t expecting too much. However I really like the mascara that comes in the kit! The full sized Sephora Brand Lash Plumper is $14, which is a steal in comparison to the Dior Iconic Mascara that I have been using. It definitely plumps your lashes, and even though it isn’t waterproof, there isn’t any smudging. However, I have been using a lash primer, so I am not sure about the mascara by itself.

When I went in to redeem my free gift I decided to look around. After purchasing the China Glaze Matte Magic Top Coat, I became obsessed with matte nail polishes. The only thing I don’t like about the Matte Magic is that it can be a little streaky depending on what color you put it over. I found a shelf of the Sephora by OPI matte nail polishes that were on sale for $5 each! They had a black and a pinkish purple color, so I got them both. I have been wearing the Domestic Goddess all week and it has barely chipped, which is saying a lot since when I am at work I am either typing or putting on latex gloves to draw blood. I love this color and I love the matte, as well!

Next up is not a rave review, but it does have a happy ending. I went into Sephora wanting a concealer. Late nights studying have wreaked havoc on my under eye circles. I happened to speak with a Benefit makeup artist who was just there for the day and she recommended the Benefit Erase Paste. When she put it on me, it looked amazing, but when I got home I couldn’t recreate it, of course. It was kind of goopy, a bit too yellow, and it made some lines visible that otherwise wouldn’t normally be so obvious. Sephora is great in that if you try a product and don’t like it, you can return it or exchange it. So I brought it back and this time I spoke with a Sephora beauty advisor. She asked me what I didn’t like about the first product and then we tried out a couple others. I ended up going home with the Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer. The best part was that when I went home and tried it myself the next day, it looked just as good! It is a bit pricey at $32 but it’ll last me forever. Plus, it comes in a lipstick type tube, so application is easy. It’s better than sticking my finger into a pot of concealer and getting under my nails!

The last thing I want to talk about is a hair product. Erika and Tyger gave me a free bottle of Paul Mitchell’s Hot Off The Press. It is a heat protectant with hold. Meaning it will protect your hair from your curling iron or flat iron, and it will help hold your style and protect it from humidity. I don’t flat iron my hair as often, usually just my bangs, but what I like to do is use this as a light weight hairspray once my hair is almost air dried. I have natural waves but there are still some pieces that like to stay straighter than I’d like them. The spray adds volume, hold and just the perfect amount of texture to my hair. I have very fine hair and this stuff doesn’t weigh it down at all. An added note, don’t go buying this at Target! A quote from Erika. “please do not buy professional salon products from supermarkets. it’s called Diversion and it’s a big NO-NO in the beauty industry! if it isn’t purchased from a salon, we can’t guarantee the quality. it could be expired. it could be water and piss. and it lowers the value of a professional product.”

So here is a picture with my makeup done, I’ve used the concealer, heat protectant spray and the mascara.

Well, I think that is about it for tonight. I’ll probably do a bit more homework for my Human Growth and Development class. It’s online so I want to get ahead while I can. Oh, I signed up for a tumblr. I don’t know how much I will post on it, I prefer facebook, but Erika and Candice are more about tumblr. We’ll see how it goes!

This collection says one thing: FUN!

I love the bright, cream-based colors that this collection offers, and it just in time for the Spring/Summer. Although I’ve yet to actually get my hands on any of the polishes, I already know which ones I want. I’ll definitely be picking up Heli-Yum (a bright Raspberry shade), Four Leaf Clover (a bright Kelly green), and High Hopes (a bright Guava shade). There’s a fun yellow in the collection, Happy Go Lucky, that I’ll definitely consider picking up as well. The collection is available at: TransDesign, 8ty8beauty, and Head2toebeauty. In total, there are 12 shades in the collection and is one of the first Spring collections that China Glaze has released for 2010. I’ll be posting swatches as soon as I get my hands on those lovely colors. In the meantime, if you have picked up any, let me know you think about them. Feel free to send my an @reply on Twitter of a Twitpic or Tweetphoto of them, I’d love to see any swatches you all may have.

I was SO right about this one!!! This Combo is absolutely fantastic! I can’t describe it any better than a winter nightsky. I just love how the China Glaze doesn’t hide the Chanel, but enhances it’s beauty! Here is a macro shot of it!

For some reason it became a litte matte after i put on the glitter, so i had to use a topcoat, but i normally do that anyway, so it wasn’t much hassle!

Hey Everyone! So I always like watching videos on YouTube with the tag “8 Most Worn Things

Hey Everyone!

So I always like watching videos on YouTube with the tag “8 Most Worn Things”, because it’s interesting to see what products or items people use all the time, and it gives a little bit of insight into their personality. It might even help if you’re looking for your own “go-to” item. Even though I don’t make YouTube videos (I guess I’m a little camera shy), I thought doing it in my blog would still work!

I changed around some of the tags, like most worn hair product to most worn accessory because I honestly don’t have a favorite hair product or one that I use all the time, as I do switch between a couple. (If you read my Lush review you’ll know what I’m talking about!) I changed most worn shoe to heel..because it’s more fun that way..to me..haha.

Comment below to share your 8 most worn things! I wanna know!

1) Most worn lipstick/ lipgloss: Okay so I never wear lipstick, but I do wear lipgloss with Fresh Sugar lip treatment as a primer (I’ll post about that product soon, I recently bought it). Clinique is moisturizing, adds great color, and stays put! I use Ginger because it’s not too obvious but adds a nice touch of pink to your lips.

Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Ginger

2) Most worn earrings: I love a good set of diamond (fake right now until I can afford real ones) earrings. To me they’re classy, flattering on anyone, and they can add a simple touch of elegance to any outfit– night or day. That’s why they’re my most worn. You can find a pair at almost any store that sells accessories.

3) Most worn shirt: Okay, so looking at my wardrobe you’d suspect that I was a Plane Jane in terms of my fashion sense, and you’d be right. I’m more into accessorizing and dressing up outfits with cute necklaces, earrings, shoes, etc. I realized my drawers are filled with solid tank tops, and this is my favorite one that I wear frequently. It has a cute neckline, and a scoop back so it’s more feminine and a tad more revealing than a classic cotton tank, but that’s one thing I like about it. This is one you can definitely dress up or down.

4) Most worn nail polish: This is a tough one because I have 3 that I REALLY REALLY like. I’m going to show you all 3, and the 8 Most Worn Things police can get me- I don’t care . Okay so, Innocence is a gorgeous color. It has more of a matte finish to it if you decide to put two layers, but sometimes I put one so it looks sheer and very natural. I go to this color when I don’t feel like using anything too bold on my nails. It’s a subtle yet gorgeous color.

Ruby Pumps is a really fun color (it’s like Dorothy’s shoes!), and the glitter specks are the perfect size and they disperse throughout the whole liquid so it ends up very even on your nails. I really don’t like the polishes with huge specks of glitter in them..I feel like a little kid (and not in a good way). And the 2nd picture is Salsa. It’s a bright, vivacious red that I like wearing especially if I’m going to an event or I’m having a good nail day because it looks nice when my nails are grown out.

Left: Innocence / Right: Ruby Pumps

Salsa on my nails

5) Most worn heels: All but one pair of my heels are Steve Madden. Take me there and I am guaranteed to leave with at least two pairs of shoes, whether it’s heels, flats, or boots. So these are my favorite! I just love the T-strap design, the satin front, and how the front cinches on the sides. It’s like they took a regular pair of heels and made it 10x better with just those little details. I really like 3-4″ heels the best, even though I’m already 5′6″. I turn to these the most for a night out because they go with everything!

Steve Madden Heels

6) Most worn accessory: ..is my Tiffany & Co. ring that I got as a birthday present. I think it’s quite a unique ring because of the fact that it’s square. I’m really big on rings and bracelets more than necklaces as an accessory. I wear it all day, every day, and I feel naked without it.

T & CO. Ring

7) Most worn perfume: Nordstrom sometimes throws some free samples of perfume when you buy something from the cosmetics counter in hopes that you’ll find one you like and come back to buy it– and I’m SO glad they did. If I’m going on a short trip I usually never take my whole bottle of perfume with me, but instead take the samples I have; it’s okay if it leaks, you lose it, or it breaks, and I don’t want to lug around my huge bottle. So one trip a couple years ago, I took along a few samples and fell in LOVE with Narciso Rodriguez For Her. I went back to Nordstrom and got a Holiday set. The bottle was specially designed for the holidays with a silver bottle and little rhinestones the front (as you can see they fell off, but I’ve had the bottle for more than a year now). It’s my go-to scent. It’s not overwhelmingly strong, and it lasts on me all day. I get so many compliments on it.

Narciso Rodriguez For Her

8 ) Most worn handbag/purse: I actually don’t like my most worn purse too much, and I will be changing it soon because it’s just way too big and I find myself shuffling through a million things before I find what I was looking for. Plus, I’ve been using it almost every day for 1 1/2 years now! Anyways, I still use it all the time and decided put a little scarf on there because it started to look boring. It was a good price for an everyday black handbag ($19 at H&M I believe). Oh, and my cat felt like exploring the bag, so you can see her furry little head .

Black Bag from H&M

I wanted to see how it would look matte. I really like it, but i think i was a bit to hasty, and the streaky-ness is beacuse i didn’t wait for the pink polish to dry completely! This picture was taken at the start of my day, and i will post a picture of how it looks after work!

I also have Orlys Matte Top, and it doesn’t stay on all day, and the polish gets shiny after a few hours!

Barry M Gray with Konad m72 with Konad Psyche Pink

The bottle of Matte Magic is .325oz , which is much smaller than their typical .5oz nail polish. I think I like the Matte Magic better than Essie’s Matte About You for Konad. So far, I have noticed that Matte Magic seems a little more forgiving with the smearing.

Thanks for looking!

Dorothy Who? is a glitter polish with a jelly base. It has deep blue and silver glitters, and I absolutely love it! I can just imagine how wonderful it will look over such polishes as Blue Satin from Chanel.

This is 4 coats, but i do believe you just need two. I was a bit clumsy (as you can see). It’s a really gorgeous minty colour with a little bit more green than blue. It’s quite cool-toned, but has a little bit of yellow in it.. in this sense, the picture really doesn’t do it justice. I’ll try to get some pictures in sunlight from now on!

This polish is a part of the Up&Away collection.

This one is going to be a quickie because A) I’m quite tired from the excitement of getting my new car today and B) it’s China Glaze so you’ll know what to expect. I tried this a few weeks ago and have recently trimmed back my nails (as you can see from the previous nail blog) so that’s why they suddenly look longer!

Awakening is an almost dusky pink colour with gold shimmer which alternates in appearance as the light catches it. It’s such a sweet shade, one I imagine would smell of roses if the fumes of nail lacquers could be masked with a scent. Two to three coats gives total opacity and well, it’s China Glaze. What more can I say?
