Russia’s Maria Sharapova lost in the second round at China Open in Beijing. Style Slam still wants to aknowledge that she won the style game with her pale purple long sleeve top and matching skirt, all from Nike.

Novak Djokovic won his first tournament since forever May. He defeated Marin Cilic in the finals of the China Open in Beijing. A solid win for Nole and he now reclaims the World Number 3 ranking overtaking Andy Murray who has disappeared from this world (along with RF but no one misses him).

Svetlana Kuznetsova won her first tournament since Roland Garros back in June. She defeated Agnieszka Radwanska in the finals of the China Open in Beijing. After a messy grass and hard court season following her RG win, this title will be a nice confidence booster going into 2010.

Moscow, represent: Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova bagged her first title since tearing it up on the clay courts in early 2009 (with titles in Stuttgart and Roland Garros) by defeating Agnieszka Radwanska in the final of the China Open. Not sure if it’s this new positive aura of hers, but she was lookin’ damn good in the cap-sleeve top from Fila’s fall Heritage collection. (Buy: $38.99 at TW)

Nole, unveiled: Were we really surprised that there was a Serbian striptease after Novak Djokovic won the men’s singles title at the China Open? He took out Marin Cilic 6-2, 7-6 (4) in a rain-addled final. Nole now has three titles (Dubai and Serbia Open); he heads Shanghai to take part in the Shanghai Masters tourney (this week).

If you know what’s going on with the bandana wrapped around their wrists, hit me up.

Stud, studded: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and his pearl studs were no match for Mikhail Youzhny in the Japan Open. The Frenchman won 6-3, 6-3. Props to Youzhny, though, who beat Gilles Simon, Tomas Berdych, and Lleyton Hewitt on his way to the final. That one-handed backhand was smokin’!

Seal of approval: That chinese name stamp the China Open tourney organizers gave to Marat Safin after his swan song in Beijing was a cool concept.

Beijing – Novak Djokovic melaju ke laga puncak China Open usai mengakhiri perlawanan Robin Soderling. Di final, Djokovic akan bertarung dengan Marin Cilic yang menundukkan Rafael Nadal.

Djokovic mengalahkan Soderling dalam laga yang digelar Sabtu (10/10/2009) siang WIB lewat pertarungan dua set langsung, 6-3, 6-3. Dalam pertarungan ini, Djokovic sukses membukukan enam aces dan mematahkan servis Soderling empat kali.

Di set pembuka, Soderling bisa memepet perolehan angka Djokovic dengan skor 3-4. Namun petenis asal Serbia itu sukses menambah angka dan menang 6-3.

Di set kedua, Soderling sempat unggul 2-0. Usai menyamakan skor menjadi 2-2, Djokovic tak terbendung dan memastikan tiket ke final dengan kemenangan 6-3. Selain mengantarkan ke laga puncak, kesuksesan ini juga akan membawa Djokovic menduduki peringkat ketiga ranking dunia.

Lawan Djokovic di final yang digelar Minggu (10/10/2009) adalah Marin Cilic. Petenis Kroasia itu melangkah ke laga puncak usai mengkandaskan Rafael Nadal.

Di set pertama Cilic mengatasi petenis nomor dua dunia itu dengan skor 6-1.

Memasuki set kedua, Nadal yang kembali dalam posisi tertinggal, sempat mendekati perolehan angka petenis peringkat ke-15 dunia itu dengan skor 3-5. Namun Cilic berhasil mengakhiri perlawanan Nadal dengan skor 6-3.

Marat Safin lost to Rafa Nadal 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of this week’s Beijing Open.

Rafa on Marat: “I am happy for him to have the end the China Open for him like this. So, for the rest, it is important for tennis. Marat is a very important player for tennis, for the fans, so we are going to miss him a lot”

Up next for Safin is a wildcard entry into the Shanghai Masters.

Trophy watch: As a “thank you” for his years of service, the tourney organizers gave Marat a chinese seal carving with his name on it.

Marin extends his H2H to 3-0 over Daydenko with a 6-4  6-4 win to book his place into the semis of the China Open.
In both sets, Davydenko broke first for the lead but was broken back by Marin who would go on to win. It was an interesting match with both players showing a good bit of what they are made of.  Other bright spots include hearing ‘Everybody‘ over the loud speakers, and seeing Vinko cheering his brother on.  So My Pretty awaits either Rafa or Marat.

In other news, I had to save this for posterity:
Rafa has now made it equal with his win over Blake in Beijing.

As I type this, there are two bright orange spots at the bottom of my screen (Nando & Nole) who just began playing. Adios.

His smile does wonders to the heart.

Rafael Nadal was pushed by James Blake (!) in their second round meeting at the China Open in Beijing. He needed 3 sets to take out James, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3. Lots of mind fuck games in that match and the mentally tougher player definitely came out on top.

Rafa will play Marat Safin in the quarterfinals.

Nadia Petrova defeated Serena Williams in their third round encounter at the China Open in Beijing, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5).

Yes, you read that right. This is the same Russian Headcase President who couldn’t score a big win to save her life this year. From the score and what I’ve read, it was a tight match and with Nadia somehow coming up with the W against the real world number one, it should be a big confident booster for her.

Go win the entire tournament.

World No. 52 Marat Safin is ambling his way to retirement (we’ll be Marat-less after 2009) but don’t let the impending racquet-hanging fool you — the Russian’s game still packs a punch.

The former World No. 1 showed glimpses of his former tennis life by upsetting Fernando Gonzalez in the second round of this week’s China Open. Too bad this good streak is part of his post-retirement outlook.

“It’s easy to play when you have nothing to lose, no points to defend, so you have no pressure at all so you can just play, just go for it.”

And this carefree style was enough to beat Gonzalez.

“I was expecting to win but I’m not surprised that I lost because Marat is a great player and didn’t do too much wrong,” shared the Chilean after the match.

Up next for Marat is Rafa Nadal, who needed three sets to overcome James Blake. Perhaps Rafa’s rustiness coupled with Safin’s worry-free tennis will get him through to the semis?

This picture reminds us of painful high school dances when, as freshmen and sophomores, your band of friends would “couple up” with a group of the opposite sex and everyone would move as a massive clump. No one had “dates”; none of that “he’s with her and she’s dancing with him.” Just a buncha awkward adolescents doing the cool thing and dancing solo.

And the theme of this China Open dance? “An Evening of Stars”. Dress is semi-casual, of course, and no doubt these crazies will be out on the dance floor rockin’ to Miley in no time.

Wonder which player’s parents are hosting the after-dance movie night?!
